Estos últimos días estoy disfrutando de una serie de médicos y hospitales, la primera vez que intenté verla no logró engancharme, días después junto a mi esposa la retomé y he mantenido el hilo durante dos temporadas.
These last few days I am enjoying a series of doctors and hospitals, the first time I tried to watch it I couldn't get hooked, days later with my wife I picked it up again and I have kept the thread for two seasons.
Ahora bien, ya en materia, la serie aborda lo que sucede en el hospital público más longevo de USA, el 'New Amsterdam', de allí el nombre, al cual llega un nuevo Director Médico, de nombre Max Goodwin, que decide como medida número uno despedir un grueso del personal e intenta conformar un equipo al que le duelan los pacientes, que los antepongan sobre cualquier estructura tradicionalista y de insensibilidad humana.
Now, the series deals with what happens in the oldest public hospital in the USA, the 'New Amsterdam', hence the name, where a new Medical Director arrives, named Max Goodwin, who decides as measure number one to fire a large part of the staff and tries to form a team that hurts patients, that puts them before any traditionalist structure and human insensitivity.
La primera temporada nos permite conocer el equipo que el Director Médico va conformando y donde cardiología, neurología, psiquiatría y oncología son las áreas principales en las cuales gira la serie, para ir sumando otros departamentos cuyo peso no radica en sus funciones, sino en las relaciones que sus protagonistas van a tener. Además de ello, la enfermedad del Doctor Max Goodwin, Director Médico, su matrimonio y el impacto de su hermana hacen que uno se enganche y por momentos aplauda cada una de sus iniciativas, todo respaldado por la pregunta "cómo te puedo ayudar".
The first season allows us to know the team that the Medical Director is forming and where cardiology, neurology, psychiatry and oncology are the main areas in which the series revolves, to add other departments whose weight does not lie in their functions, but in the relationships that its protagonists will have. In addition to this, the illness of Dr. Max Goodwin, Medical Director, his marriage and the impact of his sister make you get hooked and at times applaud each of his initiatives, all backed by the question "how can I help you".
Una serie que engancha porque es humana en su propuesta, sensible en su enfoque, muy bien orquestada en sus tramas y de un ritmo ameno y constante, pero muestra una intolerancia infantil ante lo que no comparten, por ejemplo, cuando el Decano asume como Director Médico durante un reposo formazado de Max, allí se cuestiona que haga las cosas diferentes.
A series that engages because it is human in its proposal, sensitive in its approach, very well orchestrated in its plots and of a pleasant and constant rhythm, but it shows a childish intolerance to what they do not share, for example, when the Dean takes over as Medical Director during Max's forced rest, where he is questioned for doing things differently.
Sin embargo, dos aspectos que me llamaron la atención de esta primera temporada fueron, por un lado el acto de racismo del Dr. Floyd Reynolds, jefe del departamento de cardiología quien enamorado de la Dra. Lauren Bloom, decide no seguir con ella porque aspira formar una familia con una mujer negra y así no traicionar a los suyos, el otro aspecto que capturó mi atención fue el cierre de temporada, lograron construir una montaña rusa, haciéndonos creer que ya todo había terminado, logrando darle un giro maravilloso que me hizo desear la segunda temporada.
However, two aspects that caught my attention of this first season were, on the one hand the act of racism of Dr. Floyd Reynolds, head of the cardiology department who in love with Dr. Lauren Bloom, decides not to continue with her because he aspires to form a family with a black woman and thus not betray his own, the other aspect that captured my attention was the closing of the season, they managed to build a roller coaster, making us believe that everything was already over, managing to give it a wonderful twist that made me want the second season.
La segunda temporada comienza haciéndonos ver que Max está empujando todo a la normalidad y con el suspenso de saber qué realmente sucedió en el final de la primera. Todo se desvela de a poco, con nuevas historias y unos personajes que van aportando dinámica y fluidez a la serie. Esta temporada transcurre con un aire de dolor y tristeza que impregna a todos los personajes, cuyas realidades particulares van a nutrirnos, haciendo que conectemos con ellos, en sus luchas y aspiraciones.
The second season begins by showing us that Max is pushing everything back to normal and with the suspense of knowing what really happened at the end of the first season. Everything is revealed little by little, with new stories and characters that add dynamics and fluidity to the series. This season takes place with an air of pain and sadness that permeates all the characters, whose particular realities will nurture us, making us connect with them, in their struggles and aspirations.
Mantiene un denominador con la primera que en lo particular no me agrada, el hecho que todo tiene solución y solución fácil, donde todos podemos estar contentos y felices siempre que alguien se ocupe de ofrecernos las condiciones para ello, porque el problema no somos los individuos como conjunto, sino el sistema reinante que nos ahoga y nos pisotea.

Surge entonces la pregunta: ¿la serie es buena y recomendable?, la verdad es que no, esta serie es un himno al Progresismo Socialista que a más de uno agarrará y lo llenará de mentiras, porque vende una imagen comprable y que el incauto asume como verdadera, promoviendo estereotipos e ideas cuya falacia positiva, transformadora y generadora de progreso se dan por ciertas, haciéndonos creer que lo tradicional se opone al progreso, que romper las normas siempre es lo mejor, que todo deseo es posible a pesar que no se cuenten con las condiciones para lograrlo.

Furthermore, by generalizing statements such as the fact that what I disagree with is injustice, that the bad guys follow the rules and stick to them to maintain their status quo, while the good guys are driven by their instincts and reveal themselves, that traditional institutions such as the police are by nature evil, but criminals are good and it was the system that forced them to commit crimes.
La serie entretiene y eso es innegable, pero es una himno a ese cáncer que se ha ido propagando, donde los buenos, ellos, son necesarios y quienes no estamos de acuerdo somos los malos, formando parte del sistema opresor reinante, eso causa que aquellos que no estemos bien educados sobre ideologías o posturas políticas, terminará gritando que la guerra es necesaria para tumbar cualquier sistema existente, pero no para defenderlo.

Going to Netflix as usual, I would see this series trending every now and then and even though the cover has all the elements of a doctor series, I was never motivated to watch it. One day, I was checking the Netflix app on my phone to see what series to download to watch during the weekend, as I was already falling asleep, I somehow tapped the option to download the entire first season. Luckily I didn't send weird messages to people lol.
Entrando de costumbre a Netflix, veía a cada rato en tendencia esta serie y a pesar de que la portada tiene todos los elementos sobre una serie de doctores, jamás me veía motivado a verla. Una día, estaba revisando la app de Netflix en mi teléfono para ver que serie ponía a descargar y así verla durante el fin de semana, como ya me estaba quedando dormido, de alguna forma toque la opción de descargar toda la primera temporada. Por suerte no mande mensajes extraños a la gente lol.
With the first season downloaded, I had no choice but to watch it so, I made myself breakfast and started watching the first episode. The first chapter, don't worry I won't do spoilers, was like a season finale for me. It started off bluntly, no matter if you know the characters or not, the whole chapter unfolded in a way that makes you want to see more, or at least that's what it did for me and the end of the chapter, magnificent ending. Drama all over the place and a feeling that makes you give play to the second chapter.
Con la primera temporada descargada, no me quedaba otra opción que verla así que, me preparé el desayuno y me puse a ver el primer capítulo. El primer capítulo, no te preocupes que no hare spoilers, fue para mi como un final de temporada. Comenzó sin rodeos, sin importar si conoces o no a los personajes, todo el capítulo se fue desarrollando de una forma que te hace querer ver más, o por lo menos eso causo en mi y el final del capítulo, magnifico final. Drama por todos lados y una sensación que te hace darle play al segundos capitulo.

En New Amsterdam acompañaremos al Dr Max Goodwin, el nuevo director médico de uno de los hospitales más grandes de USA. Desde que inicia la serie, te darás cuenta que el Dr Max llegó a cambiarlo todo, pero su vida ya ha cambiado y al mismo tiempo veremos como el drama que acompaña el romance, la enfermedad, las amistades y la familia, lo persiguen.
I loved all the characters in the series. An oncology specialist, a psychiatrist, a neurosurgeon, a cardiologist, the ER specialist, the nurses, the assistants, in short, each of the characters have unique characteristics that make you love them. Me han encantado todos los personajes de la serie. Una Dra especialista en oncología, un psiquiatra, un neurocirujano, un cardiólogo, la Dra especialista de urgencias, las enfermeras, las asistentes, en fin, cada uno de los personajes tienen características únicas que te hacen quererlos. A eso debo sumar que las actuaciones han sido bastante buenas, algunas carencias en gestos en ciertas situaciones, pero en términos generales, se disfrutan todas las actuaciones.
To tell you which was my favorite character is difficult. In other series it has happened to me that some characters and the excellent performances of the artists, make you connect a lot with them and when the series is in another situation, you are just there waiting for them to return with your favorite character to the scene. With New Amsterdam that didn't happen to me, I loved watching every situation with every character.

Con New Amsterdam no me pasó eso, me encantaba ver cada situación con cada personaje.
I liked the series so much that I watched both seasons in 5 days and I'm already waiting to see the 3rd season. Each chapter leaves you wanting to know more, a drama that hooks you from chapter 1 and in the second season evolves in an incredible way. Did I cry in the series? Yes and I'm not ashamed to say it, this kind of series makes you connect with the situations and even more if you have gone through recent episodes of illness.
La serie me gustó tanto que me vi las dos temporadas en 5 días y ya estoy a la espera de poder ver la 3era temporada. Cada capítulo te deja con ganas de saber más, un contaste drama que te engancha desde el capítulo 1 y que en la segunda temporada evoluciona de una forma increíble. ¿Lloré en la serie? Si y no me da pena decirlo, este tipo de serie te hace conectarte con las situaciones y más si has pasado por episodios recientes de enfermedad.
If you like drama, doctors and hospitals, a series that doesn't focus on sex but rather on the lives of the doctors and their patients, New Amsterdam may be the series you're looking for.
