*** Saludos querida comunidad de espectadores del cine, hoy les vengo a hablar sobre una película que tenía tiempo que me habían recomendado ver, pero como siempre me distraigo con otras y se me pasa, y después que la vi dije ¡oh my god! ¿Cómo es posible que yo no hubiera sabido de esta película antes? y es que investigando sobre ella porque una vez que la vi me llamó la atención saber en qué época más o menos correspondía la película, entendí un montón de cosas

Y es que esta película no es solo un film, esta película es una cosa que revolucionó incluso a la medicina de ese tiempo y hasta la actualidad representa un antes y un después de algunos procedimientos médicos que se hacían con anterioridad y se dejaron de usar, en parte gracias a la visibilidad que le dieron por esta película y algunas otras más, pero ésta en particular representa un punto de inflexión importante en la historia de la medicina.

Está basada en un libro escrito por un periodista Ken Kesey llamado "Alguien voló sobre el nido del cuco" que dejó sus impresiones sobre lo que había visto en algunos centros de salud mental, en un tiempo donde los métodos científicos de estudios de pacientes y de tratamientos eran demasiado arcaicos y rudimentarios.

Básicamente esta película con el mismo título del libro, está basada en hechos reales vistos por este periodista, pero contados como una historia sin retratar específicamente a ningún paciente en particular, a diferencia del libro original donde sí se enfocaban en la visión de un personaje. Kesey utilizó lo que vio para crear la historia y posteriormente vendió los derechos de autor de su libro para que alguien lo llevara a la gran pantalla, y es así como los derechos llegaron a manos de Michael Douglas que cedió el derecho al director Milos Forman llevando en 1975 esta película al cine.

Greetings dear community of moviegoers, today I come to talk about a movie that I had long been recommended to see, but as I always get distracted with others and I miss it, and after I saw it I said oh my god! How is it possible that I had not known about this movie before? and is that researching about it because once I saw it I was curious to know what era more or less corresponded to the film, I understood a lot of things.

And the fact is that this movie is not just a film, this movie is something that revolutionized even the medicine of that time and even today represents a before and after of some medical procedures that were done before and stopped being used, partly thanks to the visibility given by this movie and some others, but this one in particular represents an important turning point in the history of medicine.

It is based on a book written by a journalist Ken Kesey called "Someone flew over the cuckoo's nest" who left his impressions about what he had seen in some mental health centers, at a time when the scientific methods of patient studies and treatments were too archaic and rudimentary.

Basically this film with the same title as the book, is based on real events seen by this journalist, but told as a story without specifically portraying any particular patient, unlike the original book where they did focus on the vision of a character. Kesey used what he saw to create the story and subsequently sold the copyright of his book for someone to take it to the big screen, and that is how the rights came into the hands of Michael Douglas who gave the right to the director Milos Forman taking this film to the cinema in 1975.

La película se centra en la vida en un centro de salud mental, en cómo se desarrolla el día a día de todos los pacientes que ahí están recluidos y de cómo todo da un vuelco de repente cuando llega un personaje muy característico representando por Jack Nicholson que hace el papel de R.P McMurphy. McMurphy es un hombre que está acostumbrado a ir contra la ley, hace lo que quiere y cuando quiere, llega al centro de salud mental desde la cárcel, él estaba pagando una condena por una supuesta violación, pero estando recluido seguía comportándose tal cual como era "un rebelde sin causa" y sin medir las consecuencias de ninguno de sus actos aun estando en prisión.

Evidentemente como es un espíritu libre y aventurero que no se quiere adaptar a la disciplina de la prisión, aprovechó de hacerse pasar por un enfermo mental para que fuera trasladado a un centro de salud mental y eventualmente ser liberado de sus acusaciones, pero al llegar ahí se encuentra con una vida aún peor de la que vivía en el centro de reclusión y siendo llevado por su espíritu indomable forma una especie de rebelión en la institución.

The film focuses on life in a mental health center, how the day to day life of all the patients who are confined there develops and how everything suddenly turns upside down when a very characteristic character arrives, played by Jack Nicholson who plays the role of R.P McMurphy. McMurphy is a man who is used to go against the law, he does what he wants and when he wants, he arrives at the mental health center from prison, he was paying a sentence for an alleged rape, but being incarcerated he was still behaving as he was "a rebel without a cause" and without measuring the consequences of any of his actions even being in prison.

Evidently as he is a free and adventurous spirit who does not want to adapt to the prison discipline, he took the opportunity to pose as a mentally ill person to be transferred to a mental health center and eventually be released from his charges, but when he gets there he finds a life even worse than the one he lived in the prison and being driven by his indomitable spirit he forms a kind of rebellion in the institution.

No les puedo seguir contando más de la película porque les voy a dar spoilers, pero les dejo abajo el tráiler para que tengan más información al respecto. La película te hace replantearte muchas cosas sobre lo que piensas de los enfermos mentales, sobre lo que representa institucionalizar a personas en un centro de este tipo, y sobre lo que realmente consideras que es lo mejor para estas personas.

¿Realmente es preferible que estas personas estén en un centro de este tipo? ¿Realmente son esas personas las que están mal en la sociedad? ¿Son realmente necesarios esos métodos que usan en esos centros para poder lograr la "normalidad en un enfermo mental? Y así otro conjunto de interrogantes que te harán sentir más empatía por este tipo de personas y entenderlos muchísimo más.

Si eres de los que te gusta los dramas con aprendizajes de vida, créeme te va a gustar, esta persona que me recomendó esta película sí que me conoce y sabe lo que yo puedo admirar de un trabajo como este, así que de antemano gracias @jcrodriguez, es increíble cómo tenía como 1 mes en esta comunidad, nadie sabía nada de mí y ya me habías recomendado esta película y pasé casi 4 meses para poder verla, tú como que de verdad analizas a las personas por sus review o eres brujo, una de dos XD.

The film makes you rethink a lot of things about what you think about mentally ill people, about what it means to institutionalize people in such a facility, and about what you really think is best for these people.

Is it really preferable for these people to be in a center of this type? Are these people really the ones who are bad in society? Debo empezar explicándoles los que significa esta película no solo para el cine, Jack Nicholson recibió su primer Oscar por esta película y además fue la primera película en recibir los 5 rubros principales de estos premios en 1975: mejor película, actor, actriz de reparto, guion adaptado, y director. No sé realmente cuanto pudo significar para la historia del cine porque no soy experta en cine, pero si leí que es una película de culto y que es consideraba entre las 100 mejores películas de todos los tiempos, esto por supuesto lo sé porque lo leí mientras averiguaba los nombres completos de los actores y me adentraba un poco más en el origen de ella.

Lo que sí les puedo decir es lo que representa esta película para la medicina moderna, y es que cuando iba por un poco más allá de la mitad de la película, y como yo no me pierdo ningún detalle, se escuchan unas noticias en la radio y hablan del muro de Berlín por lo cual inmediatamente asocié el hecho de que la película estaba más o menos desarrollada en los acontecimientos cuando aún estaban separadas las Alemanias de oriente (comunista) y occidente (capitalista).

Y ustedes dirán ¡ajá Dalla! ¿y que tiene que ver eso con la medicina y la película? Pues que la caída del muro de Berlín fue en 1989 y en la película dan a entender que fue antes de esa época, ahora bien ¿qué sucedió en esa época en la medicina?

Las instituciones psiquiátricas siempre han sido un punto álgido de discusión desde la antigüedad, el uso de métodos bastantes grotescos para tratar a los enfermos psiquiátricos han quedado registrados en el mundo, aún hay museos del horror sobre los procedimientos que se hacían con anterioridad para poder "calmar" a los enfermos mentales, recordemos que estas enfermedades han existido toda la vida y eran pacientes bastante difíciles de tratar antes del advenimiento de los psicotrópicos, es decir los medicamentos que usamos para pacientes psiquiátricos en la actualidad.

Los antipsicóticos que son de los medicamentos más usados para calmar a los pacientes con enfermedades psiquiátricas más complejas surgieron aproximadamente en el año 1952 y en el año 1954 surgieron los antidepresivos, que en conjunto son de los medicamentos más usados en psiquiatría para tratar muchísimas de las enfermedades mentales.

And what does that have to do with medicine and the film? Well, the fall of the Berlin Wall was in 1989 and in the movie it is implied that it was more or less before at that time, but what happened at that time in medicine?

Psychiatric institutions have always been a hot point of discussion since ancient times, the use of quite grotesque methods to treat psychiatric patients have been recorded in the world, there are still museums of horror about the procedures that were done previously to "calm" the mentally ill, remember that these diseases have existed throughout life and were quite difficult to treat patients before the advent of psychotropic drugs, ie drugs that we use for psychiatric patients today.

Antipsychotics, which are among the most widely used drugs to calm patients with more complex psychiatric illnesses, appeared approximately in 1952 and in 1954 antidepressants appeared, which together are among the most widely used drugs in psychiatry to treat a great many mental illnesses.

Pero antes de este advenimiento de la farmacoterapia psiquiátrica, no se tenían medicamentos efectivos para este tipo de enfermedades y las técnicas que se usaban eran completamente horrorosas, peor que cualquier película que ustedes puedan llegar a imaginar, se los digo con toda honestidad.

Uno de esos procedimientos que se usaban era la contención mecánica con cadenas, candados correas de fuerza, entre otras peores como la terapia electroconvulsiva, la lobotomía, entre otros procedimientos aún más horrorosos; estamos hablando de procedimientos realmente crueles y en ese tiempo no existían anestésicos, ni relajantes musculares para aliviar el dolor o sedar al paciente mientras eran sometidos a éstos, además de que usarlos ya de por sí conllevaba a un riesgo, así que preferían ni siquiera usarlos, por lo que el sufrimiento y dolor que causaban en las personas era horroroso.

Les voy a explicar más o menos el nivel de crueldad al que eran sometidos estos pacientes: existía un procedimiento llamado "Lobotomia Transorbitaria" donde básicamente introducían un objeto punzo penetrante como un "pica hielo doméstico" literalmente hablando, a través de la parte superior de la cavidad orbitaria de ambos ojos y al darle con un martillo atravesaban los huesos del cráneo, para así llegar al lóbulo frontal del cerebro y producir destrucción de una zona neuronal.

¡Sí! así de cruel como se lo imaginan, una aguja gigante introducida por los ojos hasta llegar al cerebro, eso mientras el paciente estaba despierto, amarrado y solo con algo colocado en la boca para que no se mordiera la lengua mientras le producían una convulsión y evitaban que hiciera mucho escándalo por el dolor, todo esto porque según los médicos de ese tiempo, la única forma de ayudar a estos pacientes con problemas psiquiátricos severos era causarles más daño cerebral, ya que este daño cerebral iba a equiparar al daño que ya tenían y con eso finalmente tendrían a un paciente con el que pudieran lidiar o por lo menos ser manejable para la familia.

Les estoy hablando de realidad, no es imaginación de nadie, no vienen de la mente de ningún director, escritor o guionista ¡no! pueden buscar información donde quieran, esos procedimientos se hacían en nombre de la ciencia porque no habían otras formas de control de estos pacientes, era eso o que vivieran encerrados o amarrados toda su vida a una cama, por eso siempre digo Gracias a Dios y a la Ciencia existen los medicamentos y por eso muchas veces no entiendo por qué es tan complicado para un paciente aceptar una medicación, pero los entiendo porque no saben lo que tuvo que pasar la humanidad durante centenios para poder tratar en el pasado esas enfermedades, que en la actualidad solo requieren de una pastilla que te tomes algunas veces al día y nada más.

You can look for information wherever you want, those procedures were done in the name of science because there were no other ways to control these patients, it was that or they would live locked up or tied to a bed all their lives, that is why I always say Thank God and Science there are medicines and that is why many times I do not understand why it is so complicated for a patient to accept a medication, but I understand them because they do not know what humanity had to go through for centuries to treat these diseases in the past, which currently only require a pill that you take a few times a day and nothing more.

Recuerdo que cuando nos dieron esta clase nos desviamos a hablar sobre que en la actualidad aún se usa esta terapia y de hecho ha demostrado ser muy beneficiosa para pacientes con depresiones severas, Parkinson o hasta pacientes con bipolaridad, sin embargo, este tipo de terapias siguen sin gozar de aceptación por muchas sociedades científicas por la mala fama que obtuvo del pasado.

Y es que no estamos hablando de cualquier tipo de terapia, es una donde básicamente colocan electrodos en el cuero cabelludo del paciente y pasan cierto nivel de corriente a nivel cerebral para inducirles una convulsión, es una forma de como "resetear" el funcionamiento neuronal, algo así en términos sencillos, porque las convulsiones son descargas neuronales súbitas, y lo que se busca es como dar una "sacudida" a las neuronas para lograr que estas liberen los neurotransmisores de forma adecuada.

Espero que me estén entendiendo hasta ahora y no me haya puesto muy técnica con el lenguaje, pero es algo interesante de conocer para poder hablarles de la película y de lo que representa para la historia de la medicina.

Esta terapia electroconvulsiva anteriormente se hacía también de forma muy arcaica, estamos hablando de básicamente "electrocutar" el cerebro de una persona, era muy dolorosa tal cual como la lobotomía de la que les hablé arriba, pero con el advenimiento de las anestesias generales y los relajantes musculares, el procedimiento se realiza en la actualidad siguiendo protocolos que aseguran menor riesgo de complicaciones y evidentemente dejó de ser doloroso y traumático.

Sin embargo, nunca existe la posibilidad cero de que ocurra alguna complicación, pero es un procedimiento que se destina a algunos pacientes a los que la farmacoterapia no le ha hecho efecto durante mucho tiempo, hacen resistencia a los fármacos, tienen ideas suicidas constantes, tienen alucinaciones severas y peligrosas que pueden inducir asesinatos etc.

Realmente se dejan para esos casos en los que no existe otro método que le funcione al paciente. Es una cuestión de riesgo beneficio, es un riesgo alto el que se corre, pero la posibilidad del beneficio es mayor; cabe recalcar que en la actualidad se necesita un permiso firmado por el propio paciente para ser sometido a dicho procedimiento, por eso se deja solo para pacientes que tienen adecuada conciencia de su realidad.

Lo que les acabo de decir es para que más o menos entren en contexto del momento histórico en el que se desarrolla la película y lo que representó para la medicina el llevar a la gran pantalla estas imágenes, y es que la película aun cuando es un drama psicológico, por momentos con algo de humor negro, desde que empiezas a verla ya sientes la frialdad del medio donde se encuentran los personajes y el solo ver el contraste del exterior con el interior del Centro Psiquiátrico ya te hace más o menos tener una idea de que lo que se vive ahí no es muy bueno.

No me mal interpreten, esto no es una película donde se muestra solamente la crueldad de lo que les conté arriba sobre los procedimientos quirúrgicos que se le hacían a algunos enfermos psiquiátricos, es más un drama donde vemos el desenvolvimiento del día a día de las personas que viven en esa instituciones, en donde vamos a notar desde el momento cero como gran parte del personal que trabaja en esas instituciones parecen no tener corazón y ven a los enfermos mentales como enfermos y nada más, que deben cumplir todas y cada una de las reglas que ahí se les imponen.

Por eso es interesante enfocarme en el punto que para el momento histórico en que se desarrolla la película ya habían pasado aproximadamente unos 10-20 años de haber surgido los fármacos que sirven en la actualidad para tratar estas enfermedades mentales, por lo que no se justificaba el uso de ese tipo de técnicas con ese grado de crueldad que demuestran en la película y que, como ya dije, está basada en un libro que, a la vez, hicieron a partir hechos reales.

Es el personaje principal, es un rebelde sin causa, acostumbrado a hacer lo que quiere, a llevarle la contraria a todos, a no querer seguir reglas socialmente establecidas y cuyo principal defecto es gustarle mucho las mujeres, por azares del destino se mete con una chica de 15 años que según él aparenta tener 35 y termina en la cárcel pagando una condena por eso, pero antes de eso ya tenía unas 5 acusaciones por intento de violación, no era un santo, le gusta ir contra la corriente, contra las costumbres y lo socialmente aceptable.

Pero cuando analizamos bien al personaje nos damos cuenta de que es un hombre que solo le gusta vivir la vida como se debe, con libertad de hacer lo que quiera y disfrutar de los placeres que le brinda y que esas mujeres con las que se metía realmente no eran ningunas santas, y lo que él decía tenía algo de realidad, pero hay algo que a él no lo ayuda con esto que aparenta estar bien y es su mal carácter, por lo que cuando alguien intentan corregirlo o ir en contra de lo que él piensa, pierde los estribos, y termina siendo un problema para la sociedad una persona que se torne violento verbal y físicamente, y es ahí cuando entra la necesidad de que esté recluido en algún lugar donde pueda estar vigilado.

McMurphy no tiene conciencia de lo que hace, él no entiende por qué está mal ser como es él, por qué hay que seguir reglas socialmente establecidas, él no sabe lo que es normal y lo que no, por eso al llegar a este centro donde hay personas con problemas mentales, él realmente no nota grandes diferencias, él los ve como seres comunes y corrientes que, piensa no deberían estar ahí, los ve igual que él, solo con alguno que otro elemento "extraño" y por eso intenta hacerles ver un mundo distinto al que acostumbran porque siente que los tienen encerrados ahí igual que él, pero a diferencia de él, ellos no han vivido su vida como deben.

Desde que ves entrar a esta mujer al piso de la institución hay algo en ti que te dice que es una persona inclemente, y es que hay un contraste severo entre el blanco de todo el piso con el lúgubre negro totalmente de su vestimenta, obviamente fue algo completamente pensado, yo llevaba unos 5 minutos de película y ya sabía que la mujer era alguien a quien debía tenerle miedo.

La Srita Rachel pareciera no tener corazón y es que hay muchísimo personal de salud tal cual como ella y sobre todo en las salas de psiquiatría, lo peor es que son las mejores en su trabajo, en hacer cumplir normas y horarios, pero parecieran carecer de casi toda humanidad y corazón.

Por momentos sientes que todos están en un campo de concentración y la mujer es un dictador frío y rígido como todos los dictadores, pero en otros momentos sientes lástima de ella. Y es que el trabajo que realiza no es fácil, es mantener el control de un centro de salud mental y ese trabajo sí que es difícil ¡créanme! este personaje me hizo recordar el por qué en algún momento quise ser especialista en psiquiatría y lo descarté y es que existe una alta probabilidad de que termines como ella.

Es un trabajo sumamente duro psicológicamente hablando, debes tener una fortaleza mental extrema para no dejarte decaer y por mostrar severidad para infringir algo de respeto y que se cumpla lo que se debe cumplir, porque la realidad es que si en ese tipo de centros se dejan a todos hacer lo que quieren se convertirían en un completo desastre.

Por eso por momento sentí que odiaba a la Srita Rachel, pero en otros momentos la comprendía y solo daba gracias a Dios por haber descartado ser especialista en psiquiatría en primer lugar, la actuación de la actriz Louse Fletcher realmente te da miedo durante muchos momentos en toda la película, puedes sentir su ira cuando le llevan la contraria, aun cuando se sigue mostrando impasible y cero indulgente.

So at times I felt like I hated Ms. Rachel, but at other times I understood her and just thanked God for having discarded being a psychiatric specialist in the first place, the performance of actress Louse Fletcher really scares you for many moments throughout the movie, you can feel her anger when she's being pushed around, even when she still comes across as impassive and zero leniency.

Por momentos cuando empecé a conocer al personaje principal (McMurphy) recordé a Adri de la película "Loco por ella" de la que hice una reseña y se las dejo AQUI y es que sentí lo mismo cuando él entró al centro, gran parte de la pacientes que se encuentran en la institución que tienen enfermedades mentales más o menos de una severidad considerables están acostumbrados a su estilo de vida, hacen lo que se les pide, llevan una vida tranquila siguiendo las reglas, y aparentan estar controlados, están ahí porque quieren, porque reconocieron que tienen un problema y quieren mejorar, aun cuando se supone que son los "locos" ellos aparentan tener más estabilidad mental que McMurphy, por supuesto todos están medicados.

Hay varios tipos de personajes perfectamente representados magistralmente por grandes figuras de la actuación como Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, William Redfield, Brad Dourif, entre otros, tenemos un personaje depresivo, un personaje ansioso, un paranoico, un epiléptico, un sordomudo, entre otros espectros más de enfermedades mentales, sin embargo siento que no se les dio el debido tiempo en pantalla para desarrollarlos a ellos como elementos importantes dentro de la trama, pero sí nos permiten entender cómo en el centro a todos los tratan por igual independientemente del cuadro clínico que presenten y de su personalidad.

Este factor es bastante chocante y es uno de los que más podemos resaltar, el hecho de que en las instituciones psiquiátricas ven a las personas sólo como pacientes y como los obligan prácticamente a todos seguir el mismo parámetro de conducta, aun cuando todos son seres humanos individuales bien distintos unos de otros y que merecen cada uno una atención especial.

La película nos hace ver como en realidad en estas instituciones solo les interesa tener a los pacientes básicamente sedados y perfectamente controlados para evitar grandes problemas, y no me malinterpreten yo he estado en estas instituciones y el trabajo es difícil, son muchas personas y el tratarlas a todas tan distintamente tomando en cuenta la diversidad de enfermedades que pueden tener ¡no es fácil! por eso muchas veces se prefiere la generalización, pero hay que saber cuándo se puede generalizar y cuándo no.

The film makes us see how in reality in these institutions they are only interested in having the patients basically sedated and perfectly controlled to avoid big problems, and don't get me wrong I have been in these institutions and the work is difficult, there are many people and treating them all so differently taking into account the diversity of diseases they may have is not easy! that's why many times generalization is preferred, but you have to know when you can generalize and when not.

Ya les hablé arriba de algunas terapias que usan para control de las personas que se encuentran ahí recluidas cuando tienen crisis severas. Pero sin llegar a estos procedimientos que los usan ya para casos extremos, las técnicas psicológicas usadas mostradas en la película igual son muy ortodoxas, y es que por ejemplo al hacer las terapias de grupo obligan a los participantes a hablar, aun cuando no quieran, cosas personales las obligan a compartirlas con las demás personas y si no lo hacen la enfermera (Srita Rachel) actúa de una forma sumamente amenazante y los hace entrar a un gran grupo de ellos en crisis de ansiedad o miedo, y en definitiva estas técnicas no son adecuadas para el manejo de pacientes con enfermedades mentales.

Las terapias grupales deben ser de libre escogencia, nadie debe obligar a nadie, nadie se debe sentir mal por no responder y sobre todo no debemos dar a conocer la intimidad de las personas ante los demás si estos no quieren, siempre debe prevalecer la voluntad, ante todo, no la obligatoriedad por lo que para mí es un factor que me llamó mucho la atención y que debía resaltar.

Ya les hablé al principio sobre los procedimientos que se usan en la película y que se han dejado de usar, pero lejos de estos, que a fin de cuenta fueron creados con la intención de "ayudar" porque no se conocían otras técnicas para el manejo de personas agresivas o que podían poner el riesgo la vida de sí mismas o los demás, hay un factor que más llama la atención aquí y es el mal uso al que se le dan estos procedimientos.

En la película los usan como medios de tortura, son una forma de amenaza, es un secreto a voces que el que se porte mal puede pasar por esos procedimientos al que todos les tienen miedo y es entonces cuando aquí ya se pierde el objetivo que se buscaba lograr. Ya no estamos hablando de un procedimiento con fines terapéuticos para lograr la mejoría del enfermo, es que estamos violando el principio fundamental de la medicina que es "no hacer daño".

No existe la suficiente justificación para llevarlos a cabo en algunas ocasiones y se demuestra en la película, y esta es una de las razones por las que aún en la actualidad son procedimientos que no son aceptados por muchas sociedades científicas, porque eran usados como una forma de maltrato físico y violación de derechos humano antes personas desvalidas o discapacitadas.

Y lo más importante es sobre cómo se hacían estos procedimientos sin consentimiento de nadie y como aún para ese tiempo ya teníamos unos 10-20 años de haber surgido los psicotrópicos en el mundo y teníamos los anestésicos generales, entonces ¿por qué se seguían usando métodos tan rudimentarios para tratar enfermos mentales en este tipo de instituciones y sin ningún tipo de sedación?

There is not enough justification to carry them out in some occasions and it is demonstrated in the film, and this is one of the reasons why even today they are procedures that are not accepted by many scientific societies, because they were used as a form of physical abuse and violation of human rights before helpless or disabled people.

And the most important thing is how these procedures were performed without anyone's consent and since we had already had psychotropic drugs in the world for about 30 years and we had general anesthetics, why were such rudimentary methods still being used to treat the mentally ill in this type of institutions and without any type of sedation?

Existen muchos mensajes a lo largo de la película, pero, como siempre, destacaré los que para mí son los más importantes:

• Vivir la vida sin importar que, este es un punto para mi importante en cualquier tipo de enfermedad, es importante que la gente enferma y los familiares de los enfermos mentales comprendan que es lo que prefieren de la vida ¿Quieren tener una vida infeliz? ¿Quieren seguir viviendo como lo vienen haciendo pero que se adapten a la "normalidad"? o ¿Quieren ser libres y que no les importen los demás?.

• Este es el dilema principal en los enfermos mentales porque siempre les planteo lo siguiente a mis pacientes: ¿Vale la pena vivir si vamos a vivir condenados a estar en lugares como estos donde básicamente no se vive con libertad y en infelicidad, pero puedes llegar a vivir hasta los 100 años? o ¿prefieres vivir una vida corta pero libre y siendo feliz al lado de tu familia y de los que quieres? Es algo para pensar, por mi parte mi prioridad es siempre la calidad de vida para el paciente y no solo salud física total, porque tener salud es tener bienestar, biológico, psicológico y social, no solo es la parte física.

• La estigmatización de las enfermedades mentales, el hecho de que se presenten a los personajes como seres hasta cierto punto inocentes que a veces ni siquiera saben por qué están ahí, solo saben que deben estarlo porque así lo establece la sociedad es un bonito mensaje, porque de cierta forma el enfermo mental que se decide encerrar en un centro de este tipo por su cuenta es porque quiere mejorar, es porque quiere sentirse bien, y a diferencia de muchos que "no son locos" ellos saben que tienen un problema y quieren mejorarlo o eliminarlo.

• La necesidad de cambio en los Centros de Salud Mental ya lo dije al principio, esta película para el momento que salió puso sobre la palestra un montón de elementos característicos de estos lugares que son totalmente inadecuados para manejar este tipo de enfermos, y no es algo que se ha dejado de hacer, pero la película marca un antes y un después en la historia de la medicina porque a partir de ella se dio visibilidad a esas terapias rudimentarias que dejaron de usarse en muchísimos países y se convirtieron en ilegales, aun cuando todavía se siguen usando en otros sin las debidas normas de protección. Es una critica de comienzo a fin sobre lo que se hacía y se sigue haciendo mal en estos centros de salud.

• La liberación de las almas, buscando sobre que significaba la palabra "cuco" me encontré que es un nombre común que le dan a los centros psiquiátricos, por lo que se da a entender con el título de la película que el aprendizaje principal es la liberación de las personas que ahí se encuentran, personas que están ahí por su propia voluntad, pero no saben el por qué están, y sienten que ahí están mejor que en cualquier lugar, pero es porque no saben que es la libertad, McMurphy les enseño lo que era ser libres, lo que era la felicidad, que los cambios son buenos y que el ser diferentes no está mal, por lo que el título para mi da a entender eso, es como la liberación de las almas" o del encierro mental en el que se encontraban muchos pacientes que podían estar viviendo afuera con sus familias pero tenían miedo de afrontar la realidad.

• El significado de la normalidad, Este es un tema que he tocado anteriormente en mis post ¿qué es lo que es realmente ser "normal"? ser normal es sencillamente ser común, es en teoría lo más frecuente que vemos, pero ¿qué pasa cuando eso que vemos frecuentemente no es lo mejor?, ¿Qué pasa cuando los "anormales" tienen mejores sentimientos y son mejores personas que los "normales"? ¿Qué pasa cuando ellos son simplemente denigrados porque no son comunes, pero realmente no tienen ningún problema?, ¿Quién le da el derecho a quien de decir que es lo normal y qué no lo es?

• ¿Somos la sociedad realmente los adecuados para juzgar a una persona y catalogarlo como anormales o locos? Cuando la realidad es que estamos rodeados de muchísimas personas que tienen peores problemas y están libres viviendo entre todos, pero como son inteligentes y actúan como es "socialmente aceptables" entonces ¿ellos sí merecen estar libres y los otros no? ¿Merecen esas personas estar encerrados, amarrados y hasta siendo torturados sencillamente porque son diferentes al resto? Les dejo todo eso para pensar..

Saludos a todos los cinéfilos y apasionados del séptimo arte, hacía bastante tiempo que no pasaba por acá para dar mi opinión, análisis o impresiones acerca de alguna película, pero hoy finalmente he tenido el placer de hacerlo, les cuento que la película que traigo “Alguien voló sobre el nido del cuco” pertenece a ese grupo de películas que había querido ver por mucho tiempo, era una especie de deuda conmigo misma , los que me conocen dirán “ahí viene Irene de nuevo con sus películas viejas” , pero no puedo evitarlo cuando estas son mis favoritas , esta película la he querido ver desde hace unos 7 años aproximadamente pero en realidad fue hecha en el año 1975, la conocí gracias a un libro que leí cuando estaba embarazada, el libro era uno de esos tipos de enciclopedia con nombre que no recuerdo muy bien pero era algo así como las 100 mejores películas del siglo XX, hacía referencia a títulos bastante conocidos desde la Vida es Bella hasta películas como Lo que el viento se llevó , a pesar de que era un libro con bastante información no daba datos demasiado detallados del la trama como para revelar la historia completa o hacer que el lector no quisiera ver la película, yo solo me fije que era protagonizada por Jack Nickolson, uno de mis actores favoritos sobre todo en su etapa de juventud, por eso decidí verla sin leer previamente análisis ni nada de Internet , quise tener una opinión objetiva de acuerdo a mi propia experiencia.

La película es dirigida por Milos Forman, como la mayoría de las películas buenas es una adaptación de una novela, en este caso escrita por Ken Kesey, fue ganadora del Oscar mejor película en 1975, pero no solo eso también obtuvo la estatuilla por mejor dirección, actor, actriz y mejor adaptación del guion, la cinta es protagonizada por Jack Nicholson como dije previamente, contando con otros actores que ya eran famosos como Louise Fletcher (ella ganó el Oscar con esta película) o Danny DeVito, y aquellos que más adelante serían muy conocidos por su brillante actuación en esta cinta como por ejemplo Brad Dourif, quien fue nominado como mejor actor de reparto. Aquí podemos ver como la historia se desenvuelve alrededor de un personaje principal, es decir, se trata de el y solamente de el, en este sentido los demás personas no es que dejan de ser importantes, de hecho sin estos personajes secundarios no existiría un desarrollo importante del protagonista a nivel psicológico, esto obviamente enaltece la calidad actores de Nicholson pero no dejando atrás la calidad de los actores de reparto, este actor me gusta porque solo su rostro es difícil de encajar dentro de un papel simple, es decir, su rostro siempre es interesante y su actuación suprema, por eso en su juventud o mediana edad siempre se ganó papales protagónicos donde es villano, pero también roles donde sin ser villano tiene un comportamiento temperamental, errático, severo, loco o apasionado, es decir, nunca es una carácter llano, siempre es un cúmulo de emociones desbordada en gestualidad , tonos de voz fuerte, frustración, miradas intensas y carcajadas que contagian, además de un sentido del humor bastante ácido y particular cuando la situación lo deja fluir. Entonces que mejor actor para interpretar precisamente a un paciente psiquiátrico.

Así es, en esta película El protagonista es un hombre llamado McMurphy que tiene un comportamiento libertino, alegre y violento, con un sentido del humor sagaz, este está pagando un condena en la cárcel entre otros a cargos por violar a una adolescente (algo que el dice que no fue así necesariamente 🙄) y por agresión o violencia, su comportamiento es muy alocado en el campo de trabajos forzados por lo que es llevado a un centro de salud mental para que sea recluido, el médico director de esta instrucción está de acuerdo en observarlo y diagnosticar si en realidad el recluso tiene una enfermedad mental o se está haciendo el loco para no cumplir la condena o los trabajos forzados.

El recluso toma su estadía en el manicomio como una especie de relajo, el pretende estar allí el tiempo que le queda por cumplir de su condena y salir victorioso sin estar precisamente en una cárcel, sin embargo, se encuentra con una enfermera bastante estricta que está a cargo de los pacientes, dicha enfermera llamada Ratched va a ser como su Némesis, su enemiga y opositora en todo lo que el protagonista pretende hacer en la intuición la enfermera tratará de imponer su poder para frenar todo los planes del recluso incluso cuando este pueda tener la razón en cuanto al modo de tratar a los pacientes.

Una de las cosas que más me llama la atención del personaje principal, es que incluso siendo un hombre catalogado como hedonista que solo piensa en sus placeres individuales, como el alcohol, las apuestas y las mujeres, es capaz de sentir empatía por los enfermos mentales y aunque se dirige a ellos con palabras ofensivas no deja de tratarlos bien a su modo, el los trata como si en realidad fueran sus compañeros de celda, intenta que ellos jueguen a las cartas, vean béisbol o hagan deporte , ayudándolos en sus dificultades pero de cierto modo viéndolos como personas normales, este recluso tiene la empatía que precisamente le hace falta al personal medico que labora en dicha institución.

El protagonista hace amistad con los enfermos, incluso con uno al que todos ignoran por ser sordo mudo, pero como en toda historia , un personaje tan grande como él siempre será atacado, es decir, el mundo vendrá por él y tendrá que enfrentar situaciones demasiado fuertes en dicha institución donde los problemas mentales no son precisamente tratados desde una perspectiva humanista, sino más bien desde la severidad, la corrección conductual, procedimientos médicos arcaicos (electroshock y lobotomía) y hasta la violencia.

Como bien lo señaló el protagonista en una escena, los que estaban en esa institución nos estaban tan lejos de la gente de afuera, es decir, el afirmaba que había más dementes y chiflados por allí en las calles, este tema me toca a nivel personal de manera muy fuerte, porque mi papá vivió el final de sus días con demencia senil, yo misma he vivido períodos con depresión, ansiedad y estrés que me aterran , mi cabeza se vuelve todo un lío de angustia pensando que si mis problemas avanzan hasta al punto de necesitar algún tipo de asistencia psiquiátrica o medicinas, mi país Venezuela no tiene los servicios, infraestructura ni recursos humanos para lidiar con los pacientes psiquiátricos desde una trastorno leve hasta uno grave, es decir, en este país hay personas que sufren por un mal diagnóstico y prescripción errada de pastillas para dormir, imaginen nada más tener que acudir a asistencia psiquiatra cuando no se cuenta con un seguro y las consultas privadas son tan costosas, me duele ver tantas enfermos mentales deambulando en mi ciudad por ejemplo, ver este tipo de películas no sólo hace que reflexionemos acerca de la empatía, sino que pensemos en que toda institución mental tiene sus pro y contra , pero hay mucha tela que cortar en ese asunto, incluso el avance de la medicina es importante, pero por otro lado invito a ver esta película a toda persona que desea ver además de una actuación magistral, una historia de empatía con las personas que tienen una enferma mental, estoy segura que no se arrepentirán. Yo soy una persona que llora con facilidad, pero esta película a pesar de ligar comedia con drama no me hizo querer llorar, el sentimiento que me dejó es distinto, espero cada quien pueda descubrirlo a su manera.
