"You don't know who you're about to become"

Primeramente, debo decir que nunca he leído el comic del cual está basado esta serie y eso es sumamente bueno porque no voy a comparar esta producción con el material original, sino que lo tomaré como algo nuevo; de igual forma no acostumbro en hacer comparaciones porque sé que estás producciones cinematográficas o televisivas son justamente basadas en algo ya hecho y no copias fidedignas. En **"Paper Girls"** veremos la historia de cuatro chicas de 12 años de edad, ellas son: **Tiff, Erin, Mac** y **KJ** cada una de ellas trabaja como repartidoras de periódicos en diferentes zonas de Stony Stream, un vecindario de Cleveland; por asuntos del destino sus caminos se encuentran en la mañana de un primero noviembre del año 1988, en dónde el primer día de una de las chicas en el trabajo tendrá un problema con un grupo de Bullies que hará que las cuatro se una y les hagan frente para hacerlos pagar, pero las cosas se vuelven extrañas cuando el cielo torne a un color púrpura y sean raptadas por dos extraños; las cuatro chicas se despertarán en medio de una dura guerra entre bandos desconocidos y eso las hará huir desesperadas en saber que está sucediendo, pero ese no será el único problema porque está guerra es sobre el control y orden del tiempo y por eso fueron enviadas "equivocadamente" a 31 años en el futuro, es por eso que deberán usar inteligencia y destreza para encontrar una ayuda que les enseñe el camino de vuelta a casa.

First of all, I must say that I have never read the comic from which this series is based and that is extremely good because I will not compare this production with the original material, but I will take it as something new; in the same way I am not used to make comparisons because I know that these film or television productions are just based on something already made and not reliable copies. In "Paper Girls" we will see the story of four 12 year old girls, they are: Tiff, Erin, Mac and KJ each of them work as newspaper delivery girls in different areas of Stony Stream, a neighborhood of Cleveland; by fate their paths meet in the morning of a first November 1988, where the first day of one of the girls at work will have a problem with a group of Bullies that will make the four unite and confront them to make them pay, but things get strange when the sky turns to a purple color and are abducted by two strangers; the four girls will wake up in the middle of a hard war between unknown sides and that will make them run away desperate to know what is happening, but that will not be the only problem because this war is about the control and order of time and that is why they were sent "wrongly" to 31 years in the future, that is why they must use intelligence and skill to find help to show them the way back home.

Esta serie fue creada por Stephany Folsom, ella tiene no solo el trabajo como Showrunner, sino también de productora, consultora y por supuesto escritora de varios episodios; sus trabajos más conocidos (estrenados) son en "Thor: Ragnarok" y "Toy Story 4", también tendrá un importante rol en la futura serie basada en la gran historia de "The Lord of the Rings". En "Paper Girls" junto a la observación de Brian K. Vaughan, quien escribió el comic, trata de ser lo más fiel a la historia, aunque presenta algunos cambios del material original, esto para hacer más dramático y acoplar mejor la narrativa para este proyecto, eso lo consigue con la inclusión de nuevos personajes y con cambios radicales de algunos con un peso importante en la historia. Principalmente, debo decir que esta serie de drama y ciencia-ficción atrapa porque justamente el relato de la historia personal de cada una de sus protagonistas provee el drama que siempre hay en este tipo de historias Coming-of-Age y con la unión del tema de los viajes en el tiempo hace que exista un buen complemento haciendo que todo lo demás funcione.

This series was created by Stephany Folsom, she has not only the job as showrunner, but also as producer, consultant and of course writer of several episodes; her best known works (released) are in "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Toy Story 4", she will also have an important role in the future series based on the great story of "The Lord of the Rings". Vaughan, who wrote the comic, tries to be as faithful to the story, although it presents some changes from the original material, this to make more dramatic and better fit the narrative for this project, that achieves it with the inclusion of new characters and with radical changes of some with an important weight in the story. Mainly, I must say that this series of drama and science-fiction catches because precisely the story of the personal history of each of its protagonists provides the drama that is always in this type of Coming-of-Age stories and with the union of the theme of time travel makes there is a good complement making everything else work.

El estilo en cada episodio me hizo recordar a muchas de las series de los 90' a pesar de que en un principio este enfocada en los 80' en donde la referencia de la ropa, música y programas televisivos es más que evidente, pero es el estilo de filmar cada escena y la elección de los escenarios que me hicieron recordar algunas producciones del pasado; con respecto al uso del CGI, pienso que está serie la cual se nota que el presupuesto es pequeño, hace un trabajo adecuado aunque se pudo hacer cosas mejores y es que está historia de ciencia-ficción está predispuesta a mostrar muchos elementos futuristas y a la vez muy antiguos y seguramente se puso hacer un mejor diseño de ambas cosas, pero seguro que no se pudo costear algo mejor, pero en mi opinión no lo encontré decepcionante.

The style in each episode reminded me of many of the series of the 90's even though at first it is focused on the 80's where the reference of clothes, music and TV shows is more than evident, but it is the style of filming each scene and the choice of scenarios that reminded me of some productions of the past; regarding the use of CGI, I think that this series, which I can see that the budget is small, does an adequate job although it could have done better things and this sci-fi story is predisposed to show many futuristic elements and at the same time very old and surely they could have done a better design of both things, but surely they could not afford something better, but in my opinion I did not find it disappointing.

Las actuaciones de sus cuatro protagonistas es lo que junto a la historia es lo que más me ha gustado; disfrute mucho de los diferentes relatos de las vidas de estas cuatro chicas que por una razón y otra deciden aceptar un trabajo difícil y hasta peligroso y no por ser chicas, sino por las lamentables actuaciones de algunos inadaptados y es que la vida de cada una a pesar de tener oportunidades para ser mejores, pienso que está llena de dificultades que es justamente que las motive a alcanzar cosas mejores. Puedo decir que mis personajes favoritos son "KJ" y "Mac" interpretadas por Fina Strazza y Sofia Rosinsky, ambas actrices interpretan a dos chicas que son polos opuestos, una vive en una parte pobre y otra en una muy privilegiada en el mismo vecindario; siempre tienen diferencias, pero en el momento que viven todo eso debe quedar atrás y pensar mejor, crecer, madurar para enfrentar un grave problema que les deja el futuro; con respecto a "Tiff" y "Erin" interpretadas por Camryn Jones y Riley Lai Nelet, ambos personajes se parecen en la gran expectativa que tiene con respecto a su versión adulta, pero a la vez existe una gran diferencia entre ellas y eso es la actitud; la primera está completamente segura de quien será en el futuro porque se ha preparado para ello, en cambio, la otra es una soñadora que tiene en mente que todo es como una serie de TV y que ella tendrá un final feliz, a estos dos personajes las une las expectativas, pero también las unirá como deberán enfrentar lo que encuentren en el futuro. Las cuatro protagonistas hacen un excelente trabajo y tienen gran química entre ellas, todas se complementan y hacen que sus actuaciones sean mejores.

The performances of its four main characters is what I liked the most; I really enjoyed the different stories of the lives of these four girls who for one reason or another decide to accept a difficult and even dangerous job, not because they are girls, but because of the unfortunate performances of some misfits, and the life of each one of them, despite having opportunities to be better, I think it is full of difficulties that motivate them to achieve better things. I can say that my favorite characters are "KJ" and "Mac" played by Fina Strazza and Sofia Rosinsky, both actresses play two girls who are polar opposites, one lives in a poor part and the other in a very privileged one in the same neighborhood; they always have differences, but in the moment they live all that must be left behind and think better, grow up, mature to face a serious problem that the future leaves them; regarding "Tiff" and "Erin" played by Camryn Jones and Riley Lai Nelet, both characters are similar in the great expectation they have regarding their adult version, but at the same time there is a big difference between them and that is the attitude; the first one is completely sure of who she will be in the future because she has prepared for it, on the other hand, the other one is a dreamer who has in mind that everything is like a TV series and that she will have a happy ending, these two characters are united by their expectations, but they will also be united by how they will face what they will find in the future. The four main characters do an excellent job and have great chemistry between them, they all complement each other and make their performances better.

Paper Girls antes de su estreno fue comparada con la serie de Netflix "Stranger Things" y después de ver la serie de Amazon Prime Video, puedo decir que están completamente equivocados; no diré que una sea mejor que otra porque para mí son diferentes historias y es que está serie es más dramática, el peso que tiene pertenecer a este género del Coming-of-Age hace que se explore muchas cosas, pero de que exista un enfrentamiento con otras versiones de un mismo personaje hace que haya un conflicto y se maneje mejor todo lo que tiene que ver el tema de los viajes en el tiempo porque se explora la teoría de "Causa-Efecto", este será un tema recurrente en esta serie y que las vuelve muy interesante. Sé que en los ocho episodios de esta primera temporada habrá personas que la critiquen por ser lenta o que no suceda nada, pero como dije anteriormente es este asunto de Causa-Efecto lo que abre puertas a muchas posibilidades, a muchas ocurrencias que deberán pasar para conseguir un final y que puedan ayudar a estas chicas a regresar a su hogar; siendo sincero creo que está primera temporada debió ser de muchos más episodios rompiendo una actual regla de muchas series de streaming, hacer algo más completo y que enganchará más, creo que esto puede ser la única crítica negativa que tengo sobre esta producción, pero más que nada me refiero a esto porque no está confirmada una segunda temporada aunque existe los rumores de que una posible preproducción comience en el próximo mes de septiembre y si por casualidad no es renovada, entonces me conformaré con leer el comic que si está completo. Recomiendo esta serie, pueden verla en Amazon Prime, es muy buen drama con viajes en el tiempo, muy real, actual y divertida; es una producción basada en comics diferente a las demás.

Paper Girls before its premiere was compared to the Netflix series "Stranger Things" and after watching the Amazon Prime Video series, I can say that they are completely wrong; I will not say that one is better than the other because for me they are different stories and this series is more dramatic, the weight of belonging to this genre of Coming-of-Age makes it explore many things, but that there is a confrontation with other versions of the same character makes there is a conflict and everything that has to do with the theme of time travel is better handled because the theory of "Cause-Effect" is explored, this will be a recurring theme in this series and that makes them very interesting. I know that in the eight episodes of this first season there will be people who criticize it for being slow or that nothing happens, but as I said before it is this issue of Cause-Effect that opens doors to many possibilities, to many occurrences that must happen to get an end and that can help these girls to return home; being honest I think this first season should have been of many more episodes breaking a current rule of many streaming series, make something more complete and that will hook more, I think this may be the only negative criticism I have about this production, but more than anything I mean this because a second season is not confirmed although there are rumors that a possible pre-production begins next September and if by chance it is not renewed, then I'll settle for reading the comic that if it is complete. I recommend this series, you can watch it on Amazon Prime, it is a very good drama with time travel, very real, current and fun; it is a production based on comics different from the others.
