Parasyte: The Maxim - Review@kristabel123315d
I still cannot believe that I only recently became an anime fan. Like, was I really missing out on such great stories? Before now, anime was not really ‘my thing’. Lol, I literally used to criticize those who watch anime but that changed when I first gave it a try. The first anime I watched was Demon Slayer(although I don’t usually call it my first since I’m not done with it; waiting for last part) but regardless and honestly, it was a great start. That show is mad and I was hooked right from the beginning. Then Attack on Titan (I sometimes call this my first).
I’m now in my third anime, Parasyte: The Maxim. I did not even plan to watch this anime series. I saw an edit of Parasyte on Instagram but it of the Korean adaptation. I was ready to download it but a work colleague stopped me and said I should watch the anime own first, that I would enjoy it more. I listened and then downloaded the anime.
The Plot
Parasyte: The Maxim tells about an alien invasion, but not the kind involving spaceships and the rest. Here, small alien parasites fall to Earth, enter the human brain, and take full control of the human’s bodies. And the parasites eat other humans.
There’s also Shinichi Izumi. He is a high school boy whose life changes when one of these parasites tries to take over his body. But then something goes wrong, the parasite could not get to his brain and instead, gets stuck in Shinichi’s right hand. That parasite is later named Migi, and from then Shinichi’s ordinary life was no longer ordinary. Unlike other parasites who fully consume their host, Shinichi and Migi learn to coexist. The two of them develop a strange partnership where Migi provides super reflexes and combat abilities, while Shinichi supplies the body. But this partnership also drags Shinichi into brutal battles against other parasites who see him as a threat.
At the series continue, Shinichi is torn between being human and being something “other”. He starts losing emotions, becoming colder and more detached, the typical behavior of a parasite.
My Thoughts
This anime messed with my head, in the best way though. And not only because of the monsters and gore (although there’s plenty of that). It’s about survival, morality and the question Shinichi kept bringing up: What does it really mean to be human?
The parasites were terrifying, yes, but they were not painted as something purely evil. They were just doing what other species does, they were trying to survive. I think the scary part is how the anime turns the perspective and then bring up the question of if humans are really better than parasites. We destroy the planet, kill each other and exploit everything around us. At some points, it felt like the parasites were more logical and somewhat balanced than we are. That’s a very disturbing and uncomfortable thought, but what can I say.
And then there’s Shinichi’s transformation. Watching him change from that timid and awkward boy to someone cold because of loss and pain was really heartbreaking. The death of his mother completely shattered him, and it was from then his humanity started slipping. It was chilling to see him gradually become more like Migi – logical, detached and less emotional.
But the real star of the show for me was Migi. I did not expect to like a parasite that much, but here we are. At first, Migi was purely logical, everything was about survival, nothing about feelings. He protected Shinichi not out of kindness, but because Shinichi’s death would mean his death too. Yet, as the story went on, Migi became less of a parasite. By the end, Migi was not just a parasite but also a friend for Shinichi. What struck me the most was the moment when Migi choose to sacrifice himself so Shinichi could live. It was something I did not expect it from him. Though, I’m glad he didn’t die.
My Rating
Parasyte: The Maxim is a 9/10 for me. The pacing is right, the plot is also mad. It’s not as long as some anime giants (only 24 episodes) but every single episode leaves an impact. I would definitely recommend to anyone, even a newbie like me.
I would also appreciate an anime recommendation for my fourth watch. See you in the comment, thanks for reading.

Hello friends of @theanimerealm, the world of anime is full of stories that explore the human condition in unique ways. Among these, Parasyte: The Maxim (Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu) stands out as a masterpiece of horror and science fiction. Adapted from the manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki, this 24-episode anime, produced by Madhouse, immerses us in a fascinating story where survival, morality, and evolution intertwine in a shocking tale. In this article, we will analyze its plot, its strengths and weaknesses, and give a personal opinion on why Parasyte is a series that every anime lover should watch.
The story follows Shinichi Izumi, a high school student living a normal life until one night, a strange alien creature attempts to invade his body through his ear. However, failing in its attempt, the creature only manages to lodge itself in his right hand, becoming Migi, a parasite with an intelligence of its own. While other parasites manage to completely take over their hosts and turn them into monsters that devour humans, Shinichi and Migi end up forming a symbiotic relationship.
As the story progresses, Shinichi is forced to fight other parasites that threaten humanity while also facing an internal conflict about what it means to be human. Migi's presence begins to change his perspective, causing him to become stronger, but also colder and more calculating. Throughout the series, Shinichi deals with loss, fear, and the struggle to maintain his humanity while facing increasingly powerful enemies.
From my perspective, Parasyte is an anime that manages to capture the essence of psychological horror and science fiction in a perfect balance. The relationship between Shinichi and Migi is the central axis of the story and is masterfully constructed. At the beginning, Migi is simply a being with survival instincts, but throughout the series he evolves with Shinichi, developing a connection that transcends the merely biological.
One of the most interesting aspects of the anime is how it addresses deep themes such as identity, coexistence, and morality. It makes us wonder to what extent humans are different from parasites and what it really means to be "human." In addition, the narrative is engaging and maintains a pace that never feels rushed or too slow.
Engaging Story: Parasyte's plot is unique and flows smoothly, with no filler episodes to break the flow.
Character Development: Shinichi evolves impressively, going from an ordinary boy to someone who questions his own humanity.
Animation and Design: Madhouse does an excellent job on the animation, especially the action scenes and the transformation of the parasites.
Philosophical Message: The anime leaves us reflecting on the nature of humanity and the fight for survival.
Soundtrack: The music, especially the opening track "Let Me Hear" by Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas, fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the anime.
Some underdeveloped supporting characters: Although the story focuses on Shinichi and Migi, some supporting characters don't have as much depth as they could have had.
Somewhat rushed ending: Although the ending is satisfying, some viewers may feel that certain events are resolved too quickly in the last few episodes.
Change in tone: As the series progresses, there is a sense of a change in Shinichi's personality that, although logical for the story, may make some viewers not identify with him as much.
¡No te arrepentirás!
If you like anime that mixes horror, science fiction and action with a deep and well-constructed narrative, Parasyte: The Maxim is a series you can't miss. With a well-developed protagonist, an intriguing story and a philosophical message that will leave you reflecting, this anime has become an essential work within the genre.
In conclusion, Parasyte is not only a story of survival and battles against alien beings, but also an analysis of what it means to be human in a world where life and death are just part of the natural cycle. If you haven't seen it yet, I totally recommend it. You won't regret it!
›Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu 「寄生獣 セイの格率 」 "Parasyte: The Maxim" (2014, 24 episodes)@onlyjob529d
Absurd but creative and well executed action story. Mysterious intelligent shape-shifting parasites target humans and try to replace the head of the host to gain full control of the body, imitating host behaviour. Teenager managed to avoid death by applying tourniquet on his arm where parasite burrowed, so parasite replaced his arm. Now, two intelligent creatures have to agree on symbiotic behaviour to survive, being at odds with humans and parasites. They have to learn to compliment each other's abilities, coordinate and understand each other through verbal communication (protagonist actually talks with his "hand").
The show is not afraid to touch philosophical questions. In one episode, an intelligent life form struggles to understand humans, noticing that every creature is born with a command (e.g. spider is born with command to build webs) but humans are born as blank pages... What might be their purpose?
Some moral dilemmas are presented and well entertained.
There is a lot of action, drama and horror.
›Parasyte: An oddly refreshing Horror Story (Anime Review)@oluchi31563d
I said I wasn't going to let this year pass by without reviewing this awesome anime I watched. It's been a while since I watched this anime but I didn't feel like reviewing it till today.
This was one of the shows an anime obsessed friend gave to me to watch earlier this year. But because I'm an inconsistent anime lover, it took me a while to watch it. And now, I'm about to review the anime Parasyte: The Maxim.
Parasyte the maxim is a 24 episode japanese animation that tells the story of Shinichi Izumi, a high school student. When he wakes up to see a strange insect crawling towards him, he is wary and tries to run away from it. Instead, the insect crawls into his palm. He is alarmed by the weird occurrence but keeps the details to himself since nobody seemed to notice changes in him. He is shocked when he begins to realize there are more of the creature's kind in town and many of them feed on their host's brain. Luckily for him, only his hand hosted the parasite. Shinichi and Migi (the parasite) take it upon themselves to stop these other brain-eating parasites but they aren't aware of the abilities these parasites possess.
Did I mention above that this is one of the most awesome animes I've watched in my life even though I haven't watched much? Yeah, I think I did. I loved the plot of this anime. Shinichi was the regular dumb school student and Migi was an extremely smart parasite. Together, they made a perfect pair. In this anime, the villain was everybody and anybody. And I think that's what I loved the most. The fact that the villains were discovering their abilities at the same time our protagonists were. A world where everybody was just discovering who they were and what they could do, made the storyline worthy.
This was a really sad anime. It contained quite a number of character deaths which I feel were necessary. It wasn't sad enough to make me cry but it was sad enough to make you understand the gravity of the situation in the town invaded by parasites. Watching it was refreshing because it could be likened to life. You might be fighting to save what is across you, overlooking that that is exactly next to you. I liked that about it. Shinichi and Migi were obsessed with saving people, forgetting that they had people around them also.
One thing I looked forward to in this anime was the theme songs. This is the first anime I mastered it's lyrics to it's opening song. And that's odd because although I enjoy their songs, I find it hard to learn the lyrics but for this, I looked forward to the start of every new episode to enjoy that sound I loved so much. There was also the closing sounds. I liked that one too but because I loved the opening one better, I always moved on to the next episode quickly, not paying much attention to it. Been months since I watched this anime but that song is still stuck in my head. If there was an anime challenge for those who can sing that particular song word for word, I'll win that one for sure. Lol. But yeah, I loved the soundtracks.
There was a character I liked the most - Kana. Kana was a girl that was in love with Shinichi. He was too stupid to not notice it and that angered me a lot. She didn't hide the fact that she liked and trusted him but she made a stupid mistake which could have been avoided had she not been so blinded by love. I was pained about that part and wished she had gotten better because she deserved the best. She was just a lonely girl in love.
I also wished Migi was given better character development in this show but she wasn't. The show was worth it but we (the viewers) would have understood better, the origin of the parasites, how they knew to enter humans and why they invaded the town overnight. I still loved the anime even with it's flaws. A perfect blend of humour, fantasy and action, it was.
I'll rate this anime an 8/10. It had so much gory scenes which some viewers might find uncomfortable. It was an amazing watch and I'll definitely recommend it to those who are lovers of it's genre.
How are you today? I am very well, very happy to be here to tell you that this week I have been very busy, but this time I had some free time and I managed to watch a series called Parasyte, which is very well known in the anime world. Without further ado, I want to tell you what I think about this series and really my opinions about it.
Parasyte: resumen
Parasyte is an anime series that grabs you from the first moment without a doubt, and also makes you question the nature of humanity. The story is about parasites that arrived on earth and began to infect and take over the bodies of humans. The alien that infected our protagonist, Migi, only manages to infect the arm of Shinichi, a simple high school student. From there, a unique relationship is established between both beings, where they must learn to coexist and fight against other stranger parasites.
What makes this parasite who stayed with our protagonist special is that he makes a kind of strange friendship, and does not kill him as others have done. Shinichi, a shy and reserved young man, is forced to mature quickly while living with Migi. As the plot progresses, they both face problems of Shinishi's slightly more everyday life, and slightly larger conflicts such as those with other aliens.
In addition to its intriguing premise and complex characters, Parasito stands out for its high-quality animation and visceral action sequences. Something that characterizes this series is that it is clearly not afraid to show violence and the consequences of the characters' actions, making it a visually stunning experience. If you are looking for an anime that makes you think and feel, Parasite is definitely a series you should watch.
In all my posts with opinions, I start by saying something that I liked a lot or that left me impressed, but this time it is quite rare that I liked the fact that the creators and writers of the series dared to show violence, horror, blood, and some other things like that without any kind of fear. In most current anime, we don't see this kind of stuff, unless it's in manga or things like that, and the truth is that this was something I liked. They certainly dared to do something a lot more raw than other similar series
Another thing I also liked is that Migi, as the alien, in some strange way, ends up being the conscience of our protagonist, although he was destined to actually kill him, it is strange and fascinating to see how little by little he ends up becoming the voice of his conscience and his friend, who helped him to get out of several situations, even when in the final part, his girl was going to die, and our invader controlled his hand to save her, doing something that is very uncharacteristic of these aliens.
Something that we have already seen several times, but it is difficult to get tired of it, is how they use the resource of colors, lighting, and this kind of things in each scene, to achieve a unique result, where it helps to make you more immersed in the moment and make you feel things similar to that of the protagonists. The music is not left behind at all, the truth is that some of the songs and soundtracks that we can hear in the background are pretty good, although they tended to be super imperceptible in certain parts of the game.
I think the last thing I can talk about that I liked, more than the things I already talked about, is that I loved how they managed to find a unique concept for the characters and even more crazy and bizarre ways. It's really crazy to see the different transformations that people went through to become a body where an alien resides. This certainly gave a big plus to the series, and I loved that they weren't afraid to do different things like this.
This movie mixes many things that you can easily like if you are a fan of horror or intense movies and also watch anime, the perfect combination. Personally, it does have some moments of filler or simply annoying, but apart from that, it is a series with an incredible quality that no doubt could only be achieved in an anime with a budget like this one. I give it an 8/10, since it is really very good despite some details. Some people may give it more or less, but for me, it's a fair rating.
Thank you so much for reading this post and getting this far! I loved taking the time to watch it, as I was quite busy and this production took my mind off everything I had pending, I really enjoyed it. Without further ado, see you!
Hello everyone! I hope you are doing great today! This time I want to share with you a review of a very good anime, it was one of the first that was recommended to me when I entered the world of anime ... And I have noticed that it is a classic in these occasions, since it is usually one of the first ones that most people recommend... I started watching this series by recommendation, not because it really caught my attention... but I was very satisfied. From the beginning the series grabbed me with its premise and its combination of genres. The story begins with Shinichi, a high school student who was very normal, a kid with nothing special... until one day something happens to him that changed his life completely, an alien tried to control him, but failed in the process, and could only take his right arm, replacing it completely... This alien, who we will know as Migi, is part of an invasion of parasites that are taking human bodies, and supplanting them.
Among the things that caught my attention is how the aliens are handled, unlike other stories, here the parasites are not simply villains at the whim of the script, but the series takes its time to explore their nature and motivations. One characteristic of these beings is that they have no empathy or emotions, but they are not simply mindless monsters without brains or critical thinking. The character development is very interesting, we see how these two protagonists begin to influence each other.... Shinichi begins to take a colder, more calculating attitude due to Migi's influence, and on the other hand, Migi begins to show some signs of human behavior, learning about love and sacrifice. This exchange of characteristics between this duo adds a lot of depth to the story, and makes you go deeper into their lives, becoming interested in their destinies.
This anime also explores philosophical and existential themes, parasites, like humans, are searching for their purpose in the world. This search for meaning is something that many could relate to.... The story makes us reflect on what it truly means to be human, and how our emotions and relationships can define us. As for the visual aspect, this anime didn't disappoint me at all..
The action scenes are very well animated and choreographed, keeping viewers entertained. The animation is fluid, and the designs of the parasites are disturbing, giving a very good atmosphere of terror to the series... The series also doesn't hold back in showing the horrors of the alien invasion, with very graphic scenes, in a great way to keep the story moving. The narrative is solid, I didn't feel it was rushed and I didn't feel they stretched the story by adding unnecessary things, each episode adds something to the plot.
The series knows when to take its time to focus on the development of the characters, and when to speed up the pace a bit to make you want to keep watching what will happen with the humans and these beings, all this while keeping a good quality plot, something that makes the mature audience, who is looking for something more than just action, can feel very comfortable and enjoy.
The relationship that forms between the two main characters, Shinichi and Migi, is very interesting. Throughout the series we see how their relationship evolves from an awkward coexistence to a true alliance. This development feels natural and very well accomplished, it's one of the best strengths of the series. There's a lot of mutual growth in the dynamic of these two beings, who were just unlucky to find each other... it's both touching and funny.
The tone of the series has a good balance, it handles well when to move from action, to quieter, more reflective moments. The battles are exciting, but it's also good to see the emotional and psychological effects of the invasion on the different characters.. as for the soundtrack, it's excellent! The opening is great, one of my all time favorites, and the background music, complements the battles brilliantly... it's very good at accomplishing the task of getting you into the story.
Parasyte is an anime that I highly recommend. It has a unique premise that is very different from other alien-related productions, well-developed characters, and a plot that will surely keep you hooked from beginning to end. The series not only offers you scenes of great action and horror, but it is also good at tackling different interesting and philosophical themes, which serve as food for thought. If you are looking for a series that is engaging and entertaining, you may want to give this anime a look that, although a few years old, is still remembered and appreciated by many people within the anime world.

There are many ways to think about how Live Action represents those stories that we nostalgically remember from some anime or manga we saw and I notice how crushing are the criticisms towards these products where even a question remains in the air if they are really necessary ... my thought as a general viewer little connoisseur of anime is yes, I have enjoyed several Live Action stories from Netflix as a child and although I highlight they are not masterpieces, they manage to entertain me and with that I am happy.
Parasyte The Grey is a Live Action series recently released on Netflix that takes inspiration from Parasyte an anime that I no longer remembered having seen for so many years that have passed and that I liked, a note is that I am impressed by the algorithms of different platforms because I found out about the existence of this series thanks to Netflix suggested it to me so thank you algorithms.
As I would love to say that I saw it suggested in some community then if it has not happened to you, I recommend it because it has a good gore, a fairly linear story that ultimately entertains, some amazing battles, a closing that can surprise you because it is precisely what I least expected and is its own history, notice that that was what made me click, I saw the cover and did not recognize characters and curiosity won me over.
After watching the series and researching a little I noticed that there is already a Live Action adaptation of the anime released in 2014, there was that I thought why this story is so far from the canon so to speak, the creator Yeong San-Ho I think has done a good job because the series has a light element to Hannibal Lecter that I did not expect, I perceived anime there, that surprised me.
Negative and Positive Points of the Series as of now with Spoilers:
Betrayal is the best of the series: as I enjoyed the moments of betrayal, it really is a feeling that generates frustration and I see it in the characters, in fact they are the best elaborated dramatic scenes both in presentation and script, its only weakness is that some seemed to betray because yes, I think that could be improved but the parasitic part was solidly represented this feeling.
The casting could be improved: remember it is a Korean product and most of us are adapted to American products and the way of acting is different for many reasons such as language and gestures BUT Kwon Hae-Hyo as the detective Kim Chul-min I would have changed him for another actor because his presence is not very tolerable.
Characters with a Fragile Script: In this case the criticism goes to Koo Kyo-whan as Seol Kan Woo at the script level because it has too many dramatic elements lost and if something helped the anime was the feeling of love that in this series I think could have been exploited with it instead of so many things that stifle the character and do not let him develop dramatically.
The Special Effects: as always in this type of products that have a great weight in the effects to give life to the plot of the story that gives name to the product Parasyte, I think this acceptable especially during the battles, if something I liked the anime was that and here I also perceived the same feeling to see those scenes full of special effects.
The drama could have been much more exploited: the protagonist Jeon So-nee as Jeong Su-in enjoyed it enormously, I think the casting and the story is right, so much so that it has dramatic moments in which I would like to stay and unfortunately they fail to reach a full climax, there may be battles, special effects but I think Parasyte as a product in general if something can develop well is the drama of the characters, I would like to have seen more of that in the series and that it was not left halfway.
The most solid positive point that this product has from what I analyzed is its own story and that's what I wanted to see, in my case it was a total success and I recommend it because these Parasyte stories give for more, there is the mystery of how they arrive and from there a fan is born in which any author can make his version of this, I give it 6.5 out of 10 because I want to see more of the series, to know more parasites and even more, the particular drama of each of its guests that will allow the parasites to know new feelings.
I dedicate each and every one of my posts and videos to my little dog named princess, we called her chiquito, she is no longer with us but from heaven she will see that her existence was valuable and the most beautiful thing that will exist in my heart and soul.
Nowadays, a large number of anime are produced every year; however, that is not what happened in past decades, with the result that several manga adaptations were never made. This title based on a manga published in the 80's, finally had an anime adaptation in 2014. It was developed by the studio Madhouse, being its director Kenichi Shimizu.
Synopsis: Shinichi Izumi is a young schoolboy who one night has a strange nightmare in which a kind of snake ends up entering his hand; the next day, he realizes that it was not a bad dream, but it is a parasite, which he will call Migi, with which he will have to live. From that moment on, he will have to adapt to having a different life, while facing several problems, among them fighting with other parasites.
Migi, the co-protagonist of the story, is a parasite that could not reach Shinichi's brain, so he will have to live with him. He is a character with his own personality and his main goal is to survive. Shinichi will see his life altered, and his personality and abilities will change little by little.
On the other hand, we will see how other parasites see their appearance in the world from different angles, some will simply try to survive while others try to understand why they appear. The plot manages to mix many good action scenes (with some gore), suspense, comedy, a touch of romance and Shinichi's day to day life. The only negative is that I feel a certain rush to advance quickly, especially in the final stretch.
The animation is quite correct, with some good combat scenes, although somewhat limited at some point. The character design can be improved, especially in secondary characters. The music leaves us with an excellent opening, one of the best of the year.
Recomendable.
I had already read the manga of this title many years ago, and I think it is excellent that this adaptation has done justice to such a good story. Highly recommended.
Hi guys, how are you all? I hope you are well. Many of you have seen the movie that I am going to talk about today. And those who haven't seen it will read my review with difficulty. If you like the movie then u will watch otherwise don't waste your time.
The movie shows a man sleeping when suddenly a parasite comes to him and enters through his ear hole, then he starts behaving strangely but after a while he is fine. Then the main character of this film is shown, a parasite trying to enter his ear because it is nighttime.
Even the main character of the movie was asleep when the scene was first shown but he couldn't enter through his ears because he had earphones inserted in his ears while he fell asleep he tried to enter through his nostrils but couldn't get up and then he fell asleep...
When he sees the parasite trying to enter through the nostrils, he immediately throws it away. And the parasite tries to kill him but it bites his hand and gets inside his hand he's too smart as soon as the hand ties it tightly with a ribbon so it can't go over him that's how the movie starts. Interest has been created to watch the movie.
The next part of the movie shows that parasites have affected the human body in different ways and are killing people in different ways, killing people in a very horrible way. Meanwhile, Hero's parasite, which was inside his hand, could not go above him, because of which it controlled his hand, but he became very close to the Parasite with Hero.
The next part of the movie was great for me because the hero was doing a good job. The others who were infected by the parasite killed people but the hero was not doing any kind of work, instead, he took the initiative to kill those who were killing the people, one of whom was a police officer. The police officer Parasite goes to Hero's mother, what will Hero do now?
I like the movie as the director has tried to portray the story in the same way and everything from the location has been portrayed quite nicely. The night scenery is more here than the daylight and of which the location becomes a big thing here or the story of the movie is beautiful. It becomes quite difficult to bring out but in this case, the director has maintained this thing very nicely.
The ending of this movie is a bit different which leaves a lot for the next part. It is released as part one. From the beginning to the end, there are many twists that will make you like it, and sometimes it can make you bored. Since the story is fictional, if you feel bored, then I'm really sorry. If you like this type of movie then you can watch this movie and if you don't like this type of movie then it's not good for you to watch this movie will just get bored. Thank you friends for being with me.

Yo, greetings to all Hive readers
You know, I've seen Anime so bad from their premise that it's not even fun to talk bad about them, it's highlighting obvious mistakes for most, it feels like kicking someone already defeated, or even on rare occasions they can become my guilty pleasure. But how about an Anime that does try to build a compelling and complex story, but fails at absolutely everything?
One night hundreds of spores appear in Japan containing parasitic creatures that invade human bodies to take over their brains. The story centers on Shinichi Izumi, which one of these parasites tries to enter him while he is sleeping, but is unsuccessful as Shinichi wakes up and removes it from his face, so he decides on another way to enter his body: his arm. Because Shinichi was able to prevent this parasite from reaching his brain, it remains limited and completes its maturation in his arm, causing both beings to retain their separate minds. Other parasites will consider a parasitized human with an intact brain as problematic, so the two will learn to work together to survive enemy parasite attacks.
Being sold to me as a Gore Anime I wasn't very enthusiastic, because while I enjoy Gore in brainless video games, in Anime most of it is Edgelord garbage for people like the guy who shares images like "Don't mess with the Otakus, we have a defense system called Gore" and then there were those who told me to watch it mostly for the plot, which subjectively convinced me with body-snatching aliens in the style of The Thing, and well, I was quite hooked. Part of what makes it a good Anime Gore was not this time being mindless action like Hellsing Ultimate did, but this time it was something different and ironic: not trying to be a Gore; by this I mean that the plot is not an excuse to fill the screen with blood and guts, the violence is perfectly justified by the story which is much more important and is what we should focus on, and the violence is not so explicit, the deaths are quick and most of the flesh that would be seen is moderated with camera angles which not only save the animators to detail such things, but makes it less unpleasant and more accessible to people a little sensitive, there is nothing wrong with being so.
Speaking of the story, it is the plot of "the enemy among us" combined with one of metamorphosis, like Devilman or Tokyo Ghoul, only under a more sci-fi premise that cares about its verisimilitude, although it is inspired in part by Devilman, its world building is superior. The protagonist is not and never becomes stronger than his enemies nor does he pull a Power Up from the * when he faced the "final boss", the only thing he relies on to win is strategy, and as a JoJo fan, fights that balance the spectacular and the strategic will always be superior to brute force or throwing rashitos. Normal humans are not stupid, here are the best cops I've ever seen in Anime and that's why the tension feels so genuine, it's a more believable war between humanity against an unknown and dangerous species. Being the adaptation of a Manga from the 80's its messages are very much of the time: The damage to the environment, the value of life, individualism, the treatment of other life forms, etc. Environmentalism and anti-speciesism may be old-fashioned and sappy themes for many, but for me they are themes that will always be important, and what better way to represent this than with aliens who see us as cattle and as the ones responsible for the planet being in increasingly deplorable conditions. This Anime can be classified as a "dark plot" and yet it turns out to be optimistic at the same time, this is another advantage it has over other anime of the same genre, where others walk with that air that life is cruel and everything is lost in the Edgy way you can imagine, in Parasyte for more horrible deaths than there, the Anime is best remembered for the protagonist's struggle for a better world and his faith in a more united humanity, a unity that the parasites themselves would begin to copy when they realized that no matter how strong they were, they were being eliminated little by little for always working individually.
As for the bad, I may have said a while ago that it is more plausible than other Anime of its style, but even in this it has its problems. The adaptation wanted the events of an eighties Manga to occur in more current times and this causes certain inconsistencies with technology: they came up with Migi to learn to speak among other things thanks to the internet instead of books, so why people with a very likely cell phone with Wi-fi do not call anyone when they discover a parasite? It's not like there weren't those who had the opportunity before they were killed, and even there survivors whose testimonies would have gone viral on social media even if their government tried to censor them and it's not until near the end of the series that the issue becomes known.
While all the fights are flawless and free of Power Ups, in the final fight they put tremendous bait in you by making the prota weaker to then give a PlotTwist that brings him back to 100%. It may be a thoughtful series, but those who don't know how to deal with complex and intellectual topics don’t have to feel intimidated, because what it has good messages it doesn't have in subtlety, the ending and the prologue can become quite preachy for the taste of many who already for that point the message was very clear, and it is being said by someone who is slow to understand metaphors and hints, so direct and preachy it is.
Shinichi Izumi: He is a high school student who used to be a shy student until his right hand was parasitized. He and Migi must defend themselves by managing his ability to think and act independently, and as a team using it as a tactical advantage over normal parasites. He must find ways to apply his fight against parasites, dealing with the stress and pain it causes his friends and family, much in the style of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. He goes through several changes both physical and psychological not only because of the symbiosis with the parasite but also as his natural character development, some will be unhappy with the first Shinichi as he was not like that in the Manga and that he follows the same cliché of Kaneki as a loser who suddenly becomes Badass, but his change is not at all forced nor much less he had to be literally tortured to acquire his change. Still, Shinichi from start to finish remains kind and sentimental, which works as a complement to Migi being cold and selfish. As Badass as the new Shinichi seems, he himself fears losing his humanity as his mind becomes more and more like Migi's, and everyone cares for him as well because, regardless of what others think, his nearest and dearest appreciate the kind and respectful Shinichi.
Migi: It is a parasite that tried to possess Shinichi, but ends up becoming his right hand (literally). The name is given to Shinichi and literally means "right hand". Unlike other parasites, Migi has no desire to kill humans for sustenance, as it gets all its nutrients from the food Shinichi eats. Like other parasites, Migi is emotionless. Its only goal is survival and in some cases it tries to kill other humans that pose a threat to its own and Shinichi's secret. Migi has no desire to put himself at risk to protect other humans from parasites. He is the rational and calculating part of the duo, and in contrast to Shinichi's development, Migi is understanding humans more and more and is able to understand and feel things like altruism and empathy.
Satomi Murano: Shinichi's friend, together they develop a romantic relationship over the course of the series, but their attraction is hindered by Shinichi's fear of her monstrous nature and Satomi's own fear of his new behavior. I usually defend that female characters who are "just pretty and do moral support" don't have to be "empowered" or active in the conflict to be good characters like Misora Isurugi, but Murano is not a case I can defend as much. I won't deny that thanks to her the protagonist develops part of his inner conflicts, but Murano as such is just a pretty face and damsel in distress, plus she's kind of slow to realize obvious things, she should have been the first to realize that the guy she likes is partly a monster and yet she was left wondering why Shinichi got involved in so much trouble.
Kana Kimishima: A young girl who hung out with her boyfriend's gang until she met Shinichi. Kana became attracted to Shinichi when she began to sense something "different" about him. She possesses the unexplainable psychic ability of being able to sense humans who have been infected by parasites. However, his senses are not as finely tuned as those of the parasites themselves, causing him to be unable to differentiate whether he has detected Shinichi's presence or that of a normal parasite, always putting her in danger. Ignoring the psychic powers you could say she was a more interesting character than Murano, her being the one who introduces the concept of psychics I would have liked to see more depth on this aspect so it didn't seem like a power they put there to give the humans more of an advantage, or that she found out everything that was going on with the parasites before... well... that.
Yuko Tachikawa: Shinichi's classmate, and friends with Murano and Akiho. She is a kind and introverted person. She made portraits of Hideo Shimada, a boy she ends up falling in love with. To my surprise, the girl who seemed the most irrelevant of all turned out that when she suspected that the boy she liked was not human, she started an investigation that made her find out that he was a parasite, and not only that, she tried to make him confess and in case things went wrong, she created a plan with which she managed to incapacitate him to run away. With that and the fact that her brother works in the police, she expected that she WOULD get involved in the conflict... but after that arc she returned to her normal life just like that.
Mamoru Uda/Jaw: A robust man who lives in another village, like Shinichi is infected by a parasite which does not reach the brain but matures in his jaw. Sentimental, tearful and nervous under pressure, to some extent naive, because of this he is abandoned by his wife just a year of marriage so he decides to commit suicide; Just at that moment he meets his parasite whom he later calls "Jaw" (jaw in English) to be scared slips falling into the sea where Jaw decides between invading the brain drowning both or stay in the jaw to stretch the lips to the surface, saving the lives of both. They later help Shinichi to deal with a parasite. Obviously because of Mamoru's way of being I didn't expect them to come out fighting in several chapters, but by presenting the same condition as Shinichi he was able to stay as another moral support and a good friend since they share a unique condition that they can't talk to anyone else about and go through several hardships because of this.
Reiko Tamura: She is a parasite that infected and took the identity of a woman named Ryoko Tamiya, who later becomes one of Shinichi's school teachers. Unlike most of her species, she is interested in scientific and philosophical theories under a drive to understand the biology, origin and purpose of her species. For a normal parasite, her hunger for knowledge made her develop her emotions faster than Migi, both for good as empathy would be, and for bad as enjoying the misfortune of others. And it makes her the most interesting character to follow her transformation and how this will determine whether she will be an ally or an enemy.
As you may have noticed, there are no bad characters (minus Murano, he's mediocre) but Kana, Yuko, and Mamoru have in common to have great potential that goes unused: exploring more of a concept, humans interested in parasites beyond the government (who don't want this to be known) and having more close friends for the main character beyond his romantic interest, respectively.
The designs are worthy of their demographics (not like those in the previous review) although it is not as detailed as the Manga, and the redesign of some characters were for the better, updating them and giving them more identity, also omitted the cartoonish expressions somewhat out of place. I thought that Migi's realism would give them problems but the result was good as well as the movements of the parasites' blades, showing off with the dynamism of the battles with all those clashes of blades. The only downside is that in scenes with crowds of people you can notice how many of them were made in CGI.
Here there is a strange decision on the part of the direction, since for some reason they filled the SoundTrack with Dubstep Why Dubstep? I understand it's the hottest thing in 2014 but it has nothing to do in a suspenseful Anime based on an 80's Manga, with “Hypnotik” I have no problem as a battle theme, but the rest of Dubstep is out of place. "Let Me Hear" as an Opening I don't hate it, but most of the vocals, with the exception of the Gutulars, seems like the same emo homosexuality that Tokio Ghoul does, it would have benefited from more traditional Metal instead of Screamo. And this is the part in any Anime review where I say the Ending is soothing, boring, forgettable and.... nah just kidding, "It’s The Right Time" is the exception to the rule of this kind of Endings, not only because of Daichi Miura's voice, also because it is accompanied with images of everyday life that for many people don't care, but in these images of people in their daily lives, animals and plants; it emphasizes everything beautiful for what the protagonist fights, if it sounds far-fetched but I don't lack reasons.
Parasyte has several problems that prevent it from reaching the status that other Seinen have, but other than that you can't deny that it still has excellent writing, a correct handling of violence, good messages that make you reflect on the worst and best of human existence, beating any other Seinen equally or more violent but full of pessimism and Edge. For this it deserves a 8,1/10
And that was my review of Parasyte The Maximum, it's a great Seinen with themes and concepts that make it very close to me personally, obviously a fan of The Thing and Spider-Man. It's quite recommendable to watch it in its Latin Spanish dub. And if you haven't seen any Gore, Parasyte being the least explicit thing there is, added to other much more relevant reasons to watch it, is the best start you could choose, ciao.
›(ESP/ENG) Mi opinión sobre el anime Kiseijū (Parasyte) / My opinion on the anime Kiseijū (Parasyte)@suezoe1759d
Hi everyone! In general, I don't usually watch violent anime, much less those where there is blood or explicit violence, it's just not my thing 😅. But, I am able to get out of my comfort zone to take a look at the occasional anime with those attributes that I do not like, simply because the plot deserves the risk. And following that rule, I ventured to watch the anime Parasyte because a friend who loves gore passed it to me a long time ago and I decided to watch it before sitting down to judge it. Now that I have seen it, I can give my opinion on it. First of all I clarify that everything I am going to mention is about my point of view and that, it may be that I make a spoiler, so, read this publication keeping these considerations in mind. With things cleared up, let's get started...
The story takes place around Shinichi Izumi, a seventeen-year-old boy who has a phobia of insects and lives with his parents. One night, while he was sleeping, strange larvae-like beings begin to fall from the sky. The larva that enters Shinichi's room has a single order that resonates within "take over the brain", that's how following that instinct, it tries to get into the boy's ear. Unfortunately for him, Shinichi was listening to music, so headphones blocked his entrance. It is there when the young man notices the appearance of the intruder and he, who thinks it is a snake, panics. The larva acts quickly, knowing that it will die in a matter of seconds if it does not find a host, it is then that it lunges towards Shinichi, in the direction of his right arm, introducing itself under his flesh. The boy does his best to prevent the creature from passing past his arm, applying a tourniquet, but it is too late. The larva has already entered your body. But, fortunately, the creature cannot take over his brain, so Shinichi must coexist with the parasite that now lives in his body. Which by the way, is capable of altering its shape using the boy's molecules.
I must admit that from the first chapter I realized that it was a pretty strange anime, in fact, that was what prompted me to keep watching it, because I am a fan of the bizarre. Since the parasite was unable to take over Shinichi's brain, they both have their own independent personalities. At first Shinichi lives in constant fear with that parasite who does not hesitate to tell him that he will act if he does something that puts his existence at risk, something that terrifies the young man because the creature is capable not only of taking control of his right arm, but of give it the shape of a weapon. The boy tries to continue his normal life, while keeping the parasite hidden from his parents and high school friends. The parasite is evolving by leaps and bounds, first learning to speak, which allows it to communicate with Shinichi, explaining that it has no idea what it is, since it acts on instincts. Then, driven by a wide curiosity, Migi (the name given by Shinichi to the parasite), begins to investigate the functioning of the human body and especially everything related to humanity through books and the internet. All this fosters a vast intellect in Migi, who develops a high tactical and thoughtful sense. All that for his survival, being that his plan to take over Shinichi's brain, failed.
Throughout the series Shinichi learns to live with the existence of Migi, to the point that his own personality, scared and reserved, is having changes in which only Satomi Murano (a girl who feels romantic attraction for Shinichi), is capable to perceive, albeit to a very small degree. She only feels that the boy has changed, but has no idea why. On the other hand, Migi, who at the beginning only saw the boy as a human in which he lived, with his coexistence, does everything possible to help him and defend him, since everything that happens to the young man affects him directly. While other parasites that also took over other humans have to devour other humans as their food, Migi gets its nutrients from Shinichi. Both being an organism in perfect condition.
Shinichi has to repeatedly confront other parasites that have taken over the bodies of other human beings. Which leads him to be constantly in danger, since those beings are quite aggressive and all encounters result in death. Each battle awakens in Shinichi a broader sense, not only of his life, but of the struggle between species. After facing a parasite that almost kills him, piercing his heart, Migi ends up fusing with the boy's organ, causing part of the parasite to spread throughout Shinichi's bloodstream, to the point of becoming part of his molecules. From this point, Shinichi's personality changes abruptly, gradually adopting the mentality and lack of emotions of the parasites. That is gradually destroying him emotionally, he is unable to cry and each event that happens, leads him to realize that he is distancing himself more and more from his humanity. On the other hand, his senses have improved to the point of having super strength and his abilities when fighting alongside Migi, help him to succeed in combat. The parasite is no longer a threat, now it is an excellent ally.
The change in Shinichi's personality is not the only thing that surprises, the same personality of Migi is changing throughout the episodes. The coexistence between the two and the fusion with the human, leads him to appear in dreams, in his "true form", having deeper conversations with the boy about his existence. Conversations that are forgotten when Shinichi comes out of sleep.
But, above all, this drama of parasites taking over humans and making meat feasts with their prey, goes to a broader plane when the reason for the existence of parasites begins to be debated. Those creatures may have appeared on earth to end the greatest threat on earth: Humans. Only they are the culprits that the planet is in terrible condition, so to think that the appearance of parasites is nothing more than a purge of the earth to get rid of the real parasites ... makes you think. After all, the creatures end up proving that they are fragile beings, that once they overcome their survival instinct, which leads them to eat and kill. They are able to overcome their primitive stage, changing the way of obtaining nutrients without the need to affect other species and developing a broad reasoning and understanding, which far exceeds human capacity. That's when you ask yourself: Are those creatures the perfect predators for humans? Since humanity has shown over the years, that its power to eliminate other species is colossal.
I was certainly surprised that the anime took such a thoughtful turn, even the gory parts stopped caring for me. The relationship between Shinichi and Migi, which throughout the series is consolidated into a kind of friendship, fascinated me. And what about battles, where strategy is more important than the strength and aggressiveness of the opponent. I usually get bored with anime battles, but when they're like this they grab my attention and leave me wanting to keep watching more. But without a doubt, my favorite parts were those where Shinichi is gradually changing psychologically, thinking far beyond the mentality of an ordinary high school boy, thinking about humanity and as well as his own existence as part of the species. , in the same way that he manages to feel empathy for those creatures that, in a way, are doing their best to survive in the same ecosystem in which we all inhabit. In a way it is a nice reflection on respect for life. Or at least that's how I interpreted it ha ha.
Without a doubt, it is a hundred percent recommended anime, it is exciting, intriguing, bizarre and emotional. If she had been seeing him alone, she would surely have shed a tear. I also liked the opening and ending.
Muchas gracias por haber leído mi publicación. Espero que les haya parecido interesante.
¡Hasta una próxima oportunidad!

Hello Hivers, I hope you are very well and are taking all preventive measures of personal care in these difficult times and circumstances we are living, after having finished a great series like "Made in abyss" and be quite satisfied with the result that left me as a viewer, I gave me the task of looking for another series with almost the same elements of exploration or the unknown, so I consulted with a very good and dear friend of mine and strongly recommended me to give a chance to this anime called "Parasyte", so I heeded her recommendation and I finished watching it 3 days ago and I must say that I loved it, there are so many points that at first I did not give them much importance, but as the plot progressed I liked how so many issues were addressed, mainly the coexistence of our main characters and the new environment in which they are immersed, social changes, measures to a phenomenon which had never occurred in this way and the negative and heartbreaking effect on certain events in the life of our protagonist. So without further ado, this time I would like to talk in detail about Parasyte segment by segment.
Synopsis / Sinopsis
Our story begins with Shin'ichi a high school student a boy of 17 years old somewhat reserved, shy and introverted who lives with his parents in a very quiet neighborhood in Japan, a fairly quiet and common life until one night begin to descend or fall from the sky small deposits in which inside them are creatures with an appearance similar to worms, The function of these small aliens is to lodge in a body, preferably a human one, and reach the brain to have complete control of it using the central nervous system and thus having complete control of the host in question trying to enter either through the nose or the ear. One of these parasites tries to enter Shin'ichi's body through his ear but because it was hindered by his headphones it decides to use another alternative and enter through his nose, Shin'ichi notices this and reacts quickly when he notices the presence of the tiny creature, Shin'ichi is put on guard so the little parasite tries to access his brain through Shin'ichi's right arm as a last resort, however Shin'ichi limits him and he has no choice but to use his arm to be able to mature inside him I mean the parasite in question, which allows both characters to maintain their separate intelligences and personalities.
While this happens throughout the world and in Japan there are a series of murders committed by these parasites, who apparently can only eat or feed on human flesh to survive and considering that they are completely unaware of the rules and social status it would only be a matter of time for them to adapt quickly, learning from their mistakes, some smarter than others in the decisions they are making to survive in this unknown world for them. As the plot progresses, certain encounters with other parasites occur, both Shin'ichi and "Migi" (the parasite in question that took over Shin'ichi's arm) will have to learn to coexist and work together in order to survive, although it could be a considerable disadvantage for other parasites that successfully managed to reach the brain of their hosts, in the case of our main characters is the opposite since the weak point of these beings is the brain and as Shin'ichi's brain is intact and Migi completed his maturation in a limb but keeping his intelligence the situation turns in their favor in certain encounters, mainly when they underestimate them at first instance considering it as a defect by not fulfilling their task of taking complete control of Shin'ichi and it is here in this situation by both sides so contradictory where really the evolutionary change by the two has much more value in the plot.

Shin'ichi: As mentioned above at first instance denotes the traits of a rather shy and reserved boy as well as introverted, his life changes considerably when due to circumstances, this is forced to coexist and cooperate with a small alien who wanted to possess his brain, so this adapts his life according to the presence of Migi, As the plot progresses he takes the position of helping helpless and susceptible people of the most aggressive and violent parasites exposing himself in very difficult situations in which he risks his life to help keeping Migi's presence hidden for his loved ones and his family so they and he will be safe. The interactions and changes that are shown with Migi and are denoted with the advancement of the series are increasingly noticeable and this changes according to these experiences and the degree that can produce mainly to him which are also quite strong to deal with.
Migi: He is the parasitic alien who took control of Shin'ichi's right arm. In fact, his name in the original language, Japanese, translates as "right hand" at first instance, he is shown as an alien with a great interest in learning about the world around him, he is immersed in his quest of discovery about many things but above all about himself. He is a cold parasite, calculating, intelligent and lacking in emotions such as empathy unlike other parasites this one does not resort to the direct consumption of meat as it can feed on the food that Shin'ichi ingests, his main and main interest is survival for both him and Shin'ichi so if possible he would like to avoid conflicts if necessary but if the situation warrants it and he notices that he is in danger he will have no choice but to defend himself, he is willing to kill humans if necessary if they discover the symbiotic situation of both characters.
Animation and Music / Animación y Musica
With respect to this section I felt it quite fluid and I was not uncomfortable with visual aspects, leaving aside the strong points or focuses in which blood or deaths are present in outlandish and crude ways, of course personally I must say that with a series like this it is inevitable not to expose you to very violent situations, But other than that it has a very fluid presentation especially when you notice details such as the joints and aspects of the body moving at the free will of the parasites inhumanly with a whole body control or facial expressions, I really have no complaints or discomfort with it and considering that their animation house is the studio "Madhouse" much less the truth.
Now in relation to the musical section I enjoyed it considerably especially the opening, it was so dynamic mainly in the middle of it personally and I laugh with this but first time or few times I enjoy someone screaming so loud in the case of the opening of course, the ending on the other hand is quieter but still good for what it emits through the music, the osts are according to each specific situation and I must say that I like 1 in particular, when I finish the post I would like to add it here and share it with you too.
Personal opinion and conclusion / Opinión personal y conclusión
And well we come to my favorite section in which I can unwind quietly and deepen in detail from my perception the impact that generated in my the series, I would like to start with the relationship by the main characters throughout the series is shown more than a mere intention to survive and I like that a lot, because we can see how an alien tries not only to discover and understand certain things that are completely unknown to him and a young man who has to endure experiences that endanger his life with the alien and adapt to it to protect those he loves and himself, in a world that is in a radical change by the presence of these parasites. From the position of Migi and other parasites do not understand how humans risk their lives for others, they do not know that they are sensations and feelings such as love or empathy placing reason and logic above many things, considering humans as an enigma and threat as well as an intrinsic fear by recognizing that they are better prepared in many aspects that the parasites do not know (armaments) and try to go unnoticed some when they notice that their presence in this case that of the parasites is a considerable red alert, due to the violent acts of their species. On the other hand for the eyes of Shin'ichi and other humans see them for what they are, terrifying and unknown individuals who have the ability to go unnoticed to a large extent and such a terrifying aspect as that well used and put into practice can be very dangerous, however despite both positions the development that Migi has as a character is very interesting, in the end if he manages to develop and work on certain emotions he begins to show concern and even feel appreciation for Shin'ichi, an appreciation that goes beyond survival, he comes to this conclusion when he takes the opportunity to open up and experience from Shin'ichi's position these things, coming to the conclusion that he can evolve in ways that he did not expect, he can choose, Shin'ichi, on the other hand, goes through a series of stages from an emotional restriction to becoming more cold and distant with the ones he loves and with himself due to the unpleasant situations he has had to face. At the end of the day he copes with this and manages to have a different perspective thanks to Migi and other characters in his life, feeling at a point in his life that he could not reflect exactly as he would like certain emotions he resigns himself to the mere fact of expressing his sadness and crying or making decisions unconsciously as logically as Migi usually does, but the situation is different and changes for the better, although this change takes time but it is very rewarding to see the end result of it.
From my point of view the other parasites, are evolving as the plot progresses and are adopting human attitudes and postures in a positive way not by instinct but by learning and adaptation, as these to be coupled at all in that body may have a control of such emotions inexplicable to them to some degree and learn as they go as they relate to others in a very slow way, because they do not understand them and that makes their process for me more interesting, as in the case of a certain female character, on her own learns about certain emotions in specific and makes it noticeable by exposing her life, I do not want to make much mention of this in such detail because I prefer you to see it for yourselves and not give so many spoilers, because believe me it is worth seeing the transition moment of this character.
The truth is that I was very pleased with this series, the parallelism of the series, humanity being exposed to such a change and the adaptability of these beings taking each relevant action molded to their liking in favor of their individual survival, I love it a lot, I do not have many complaints with this series I could not highlight something bad at all, Although I admit that there are certain interactions between some characters with Shin'ichi that I did not like as the fight for attention between certain girls with different personalities for him and the typical bully boys, but other than that it is acceptable and I understand that it happens so they want to show how our main character is maturing or showing different facets with these characters and the impact it generates in the long term with them. To finish I would like to say that personally I do not feel that I see the parasites as villains or monsters at all, they are just living organisms different from us, who do not know many social aspects, moral and ethical aspects using as main base the survival and adaptation in an entirely unknown environment is what makes more interesting the plot deepening in an interpersonal discoveries and a function of each one is not far from our thought or questioning better said on the basis of "what purpose or function I have in this life", and well I really hope you liked my analysis and if you have reached this point thank you very much for reading.

Hello to all the community of The Anime Realm, I hope you are great and eager to try a new anime, because today I bring you a Review of one of the best anime I've seen in my life, besides having for me what would be the most epic opening of history and one of the best protagonist developments I've seen, without much more to add I want to start with this post about Parasyte: The Maximum.
This anime is the adaptation of the manga made by Hitoshi Iwaaki and believe it or not it began its publication in 1988 and ended in 1995 with 10 volumes being really an old manga and had to wait a long time to have an anime adaptation. Its adaptation would finally arrive by the hand of Madhouse studio in 2014 (almost 20 years after the end of the manga) and had 24 episodes and an opening (which I seriously consider one of the best in history) made by Fear, And Loathing In Las Vegas called Let Me Hear and its ending was made by Daichi Miura.
This anime introduces us to Shinichi Izumi a teenager who lives with his parents, one day from the sky begin to fall small spores containing a parasite inside which try to enter through the ear of its host and consume his brain to take control of the body, Luckily for Shinichi that night he was wearing headphones and when the parasite tries to enter through his ear it is blocked so it tries to go from the right arm to the brain, luckily Shinichi realizes this and manages with the cable of his headphone to cut the parasite's advance although he falls asleep due to shock and fatigue. The next morning he discovers that the parasite has matured in his right hand and now possesses an intelligence and personality of its own, due to the location of the parasite Shinichi decides to name it Migi (which means right in Japanese), Shinichi interrogates Migi for the reason they arrived and why it is in his hand, this one admits that it was a mistake and what he wanted was his brain but matured in the place where he was forced to stay (to Shinichi's luck hahaha) these two must now face other parasites that don't understand how to interact both species and try to save their loved ones.
This anime has a great story as we will see how our enemies do not understand what it means to be human (and do not really want to) also we have a lot of gore (seriously a pretty big amount) so it's not an anime for all audiences, but if you want to see a Seinen with a great development and a brutal story this is the best I can recommend, plus it's already on the Netflix platform so you can watch it at any opportunity.
I do not have much more to add because it would be giving you many spoilers as it is a little short anime, but despite that it is really great, its story is quite original and it took a long time to be adapted to anime because of its Seinen content so marked, I hope you give a chance to this amazing work and be prepared for the gore hahaha, I hope you are great and we'll see each other another time.

They arrive in silence and darkness. They descend from the skies. They have a hunger for human flesh. They are everywhere. They are parasites, alien creatures who must invade - and take control of - a human host to survive. And once they have infected their victims, they can assume any deadly form they choose: monsters with giant teeth, winged demons, creatures with blades for hands. But most have chosen to conceal their lethal purpose behind ordinary human faces. So no one knows their secret - except an ordinary high school student.
Parasyte is a science fiction horror manga series written and illustrated by Hitoshi Iwaaki and was published in Kodansha's Afternoon magazine from 1988 to 1995. It was later adapted into an anime television series by Madhouse, titled Parasyte -the maxim- which runs from October 2014 to March 2015.
Thoughts
First things first! I honestly have no idea that this anime series was adapted from a 1988 manga series, I mean I was not even born at that time yet but somehow when watching this anime series the whole concept, setting and storyline feels a little bit modern to me, it does not feel old nor outdated at all.
So what is "Parasyte -the maxim-" all about?
Parasyte -the maxim tells the story of 17 year old high-school student Izumi Shinichi who lives together with his parents on a peaceful town in Tokyo. When one night, worm-like aliens called Parasytes invade Earth, taking over the brains of humans. Luckily for our main protagonist, Izumi Shinichi he was only partially dominated by the worm-like aliens.
While Shinichi was sleeping, the parasite to which would be given the name of "Migi" tried to take over his brain by going inside his nose. Sadly for our poor parasite, Shinichi wakes up and Migi was alarmed and have no choice but to burrow into Shinichi's arm instead. This resulted in Shinichi being aware of the parasite's presence and prevented him from travelling further into his brain by wrapping his ear buds around his arm effectively locking Migi into his left arm.
Since Migi the parasite failed to take over Shinichi's brain and was locked into his arm, he lacks the basic urge and hunger for human flesh. His main purpose is to keep himself and his host(Shinichi) alive, even if that means killing other parasytes(who have successfully took control of other humans) in the process.
The main plot of the series seems to be the coexistence of this two. With only a partial take-over from the parasite Migi, Shinichi is still considered a Human and is therefore still could be a target by other parasytes. The two must then learn to coexist in order to survive and save their selves and other people around them from this deadly parasites.
I am just gonna be completely honest right here. After many of my friends recommended this anime to me and after reading so many positive reviews about this series. I was expecting a lot from it. Sure, I was one of those many others who was drawn to the "lots of gores" and brutality warnings. But after watching the whole series I am definitely one in the minority who was left disappointed.
It wasn't bad nor it was good. It felt lacking. This probably stems to the poor execution and pacing of most scenes, One moment they are fighting and suddenly we get the lovey-dovey romance school life moments, in other words a quick shift. Not to mention some scenes felt too rushed while some seems to be dragging a bit.
The plot and storyline however is a decent one. The battle scenes were great and the "gore" thing is somewhat achieved and totally justified. The art and animation was smooth and amazingly well done. Overall, the first few episodes of this series was great, it shows potential and one that will make any anime lovers to stick with the series. However as soon as the story progresses, it starts to become totally unforgettable. Ask someone you know who have watched this series for a while now and ask them what happened in the middle to late episodes. It was good binge-watching this series but it still is one of those anime series that is totally forgettable.

There are those who liked Parasyte, and those who didn’t. There are also those who didn’t watch it, or are too tokyoghoultards to admit it is better than it; but this analysis is not concerned with those groups.
Nobody can deny that the premise of the story sounds very intriguing. Man eating monsters appearing and killing people from the shadows has a very cool vibe to it. And sure, there are hundreds of anime that have a similar get-up, but what makes Parasyte better than almost all of them is one simple thing: The monsters just appeared and the setting is just like our world. There is nothing supernatural in this world, no teenagers with superpowers, no secret organizations that protect mankind with giant robots, no magicians from other dimensions, and no 12 year old pink-haired busty girls with eyes half their head. Sounds mundane but it is also the thing that makes the threat of the monsters far more plausible and intriguing, since there is no pre-existing defense for such things.
The premise of course means nothing if the presentation is not good, and this is where the series has a lot of issues that hurt the overall. Let’s start with how despite the production values being quite good to the most part, there are still lots of scenes that use really bad CGI crowds, which are an instant break of immersion. The main music theme is also dubstep, which is off putting for most people. These are issues alright but they are very superficial. They make it harder to enjoy the show, but don’t change the writing of it. I have tolerated lots of badly animated shows in my life, and the ones I didn’t like amongst them weren’t because the CGI was bad but because the plot and the characters were bad.
And this brings us to an issue many had concerning the characters. WHY DO THEY ACT SO STUPID? WHY IS MURANO REPEATING THE SAME ANNOYING THINGS ALL THE TIME? I am not going to defend this, because it’s true. What I can do, is point out a mishap in the way the animators present the story. You see, the anime is based on an 80s manga, and yet the studio decided to make it seem like the anime takes place in our times, by having people using cell phones and the internet. You can’t believe how off tune it is to present a story that is supposed to take place in the 80s, instead taking place in 2014 with no actual modernization past cell phones and the internet.
I grew up in the 80s. I remember very well what it was to be a kid in a world with no cell phones to warn others if something bad just happened, or search the internet for footage of things that happened ten minutes ago on the other side of the planet. We were far more isolated and uninformed back then. We were also far more naïve and high spirited, full of patriotic ideals and xenophobia. It is very far away from how things are now. We became more cynical, we scroll the internet while taking a walk, we know things the moment they happen, and we are in overall not as gullible. So, a story like Parasyte is not working if it’s supposed to be taking place today. The monsters wouldn’t be able to remain hidden for more than a few days with all the surveillance cameras, and the random people with cell phones making calls and taking pictures. The monsters would also not be able to fool today’s people as easily, eat them, and get away with it, without some forensic team doing some weird investigations that involve DNA analysis, satellite examinations, and tracing calls. It just doesn’t work.
Something else which many didn’t like is how the show was becoming less interesting as it went on. The various arcs didn’t seem to connect with each other too well, and many of the best characters were killed off midway, leaving only dull ones to carry the story with far less charisma. These are legit problems as well; the anime was more focused on theme exploration and not on character appeal or plot continuity.
And even then, many didn’t even like the theme exploration because they either didn’t understand what was the point of these monsters trying to act like humans, or why wasn’t the hero used as an intermediate to help the two species coexist, as he managed to do with his own Parasyte. These are issues I can defend. The purpose of the monsters is spelled out not only in the opening song, but it’s also infodumped by the politician that is allied with them. They are not alien invaders, and they were never meant to coexist with humanity. They were created as a reminder of what it feels like to not be on the top of the food chain, thus becoming means to modesty and in the longrun to help people appreciate life and nature, themes very prominent in the 80s. These themes are very corny today, so again it didn’t work so well.
What I will strongly defend the show for though, is how it was never a battle shonen. Many didn’t like the battle scenes because they were short and simple, with the final one in particular being anti-climactic and lame. I disagree; I found it to be a great subversion of typical shonen nonsense (if some want to see the show as a shonen so much). The hero didn’t get another power up after training with a powerful martial artist, and didn’t obliterate the big bad with an energy beam after they trash a whole valley with their punches. The hero was left weakened after he lost his Parasyte, afraid and helpless. He was found by a simple old lady that reminded him of what it means to be human. That is all it needed for him to face a monster which was a hundred times more powerful than him.
Although the way he won was lazy as shit (the monster was accidentally impaled with a poisoned stick), you can’t deny that it was still following the theme of the series, instead of trying to be flashy. The Parasytes never had the ability to form societies, they were just tolerating each other for the sake of increasing their survival rate. The moment something goes wrong, they betray each other and it’s dog eats dog. Even that woman Parasyte that managed to feel like a human, failed to make others of her kind to understand her. What she achieved as an individual couldn’t be taught to others, and everything she learned died along with her. This is what eventually defeated them at the end; their inability to fight as a real group.
Which brings us to the infamous hostage situation that took place a few episodes before. Many didn’t like the way the police handled the situation, which led to the deaths of many innocents, and most of their armed forces. They also disliked how the hero did NOTHING in this whole arc; he was just a passive observer. I say this was another great example of how the themes of the series are written in an amazing way, but their presentation is off. Just think how humans managed to find ways to spot and kill the monsters once they worked as a team. They didn’t need superpowers, super technology, or epic level wizards to do all the work for them. It was simple men, working as a team. Sure, mistakes were made, as mistakes are always made in real life as well. Lots of innocent people were killed in the process, which is again part of how plausible it feels. What, you expected the hero to teleport, grab bullets before they hit civilians, and bring the rest back to life by using the dragon balls? Not in this show. It’s not a silly shonen where the hero is overpowered and everybody else is worthless.
So as you see, it all comes down to a simple issue. Parasyte is far better written than it is presented. I am the kind of viewer who appreciates writing more than anything else, so I liked the show as a whole. I also understand why those who want cool fights and a fairy tale ending, will not like it because it is not a fighting shonen but an anachronistic seinen that focuses on the values of humanity.
And if any of that are not convincing enough, look on the bright side. It is not a complete thematic and writing failure like Tokyo Ghoul is.
They arrived in silence and darkness, descending from the skies with a hunger for human flesh. Parasites - alien creatures who must invade and take control of a human host to survive – have come to Earth. No one knows their secret except high school student, Shinichi Izumi, who’s right hand has been invaded by an alien parasite.
