  1. PERFECT MARRIAGE REVENGE || SERIES REVIEW@oluchi31817d

    Have you ever started a movie that you begin to feel different emotions before getting to a substantial part of the movie. That was how I felt while watching the movie Perfect Marriage Revenge. After I finished my last Korean series (A shop for killers), which was action-packed, I felt like I needed something less intense and soft. I then settled for Perfect Marriage Revenge. This movie has been in my TBW (To-Be-Watched) list ever since it aired but I couldn't get around to watching it.

    Perfect Marriage Revenge is a 12 episode Korean series of about 70 minutes each, starring Jung Yoo-min (Han Yi-Joo) and Sung Hoon (Seo Do-Guk). It is a television series written by Im Seo-ra and directed by Oh Sang-won.

    The series originally set in 2023 shows where Han Yi-Joo, the eldest adopted daughter of the Han lineage who is treated coldly and is not shown care, puts in a lot of effort to earn her family's love and approval. Most especially, that of her mother, Lee Jung-hye, who uses that opportunity to make her create imitations of famous paintings.

    However, Yi-joo is devastated when she discovers that her adoptive mother, Lee Jung-hye, has been selling the imitations to clients as authentic works of art and framing her for the fraud. The same day, Yi-joo also learns that her husband, Yoo Se-hyuk, didn't marry her because he loved her but married her so he could be close to her sister whom he is in love with.

    Heartbroken, Yi-joo flees and is involved in a devastating car crash. Although she survives, she is later killed by Jung-hye's assistant while in the hospital. Miraculously, she wakes up in 2022, one year prior to the accident, still engaged. Determined to seek revenge on her family and fiancé, she approaches Seo Do-guk, the man her younger sister likes, and proposes to him.

    However, he agrees to marry her on one condition: she must gain his grandmother's trust. In the course of the series, she gradually uncovers the truth about her family's deceit and Se-hyuk's (her ex-fiance) affair. She also starts to realize that Do-guk is a genuine, kind person who cares for her and has no intention of betraying her. As she develops genuine feelings for him, she realizes the need for a happy future.

    The drama had such a beautiful storyline which any kdrama fan would find satisfying. The male lead most especially. His character was so sweet. He had me giggling and blushing for the female lead so many times. I couldn't even keep track of the number of times I shouted 'GREEN FLAG' while watching the movie. Yeah, it was that intense. The cast really did their job well.

    Another thing I loved about the movie was the visuals. It was all so nice and I loved it. I'm a lover of bright and clear scenes because they don't warrant me straining my eyes to get the hang of what is going on. The movie had a very nice video quality and I loved it for that.

    Although it was a really nice drama, there were some things I noticed that shouldn't have been when it comes to television series. One, being that the first episode of this movie really tempted me to just drop it and head on to another kdrama as the female lead was so naive and couldn't see what was evident in front of her. I found it really annoying. I would not lie. Though, all my anger towards the series dissipated the moment I got to the last few minutes in the first episode. The main character finally picked up and began to act smartly which made me start feeling the vibe of the drama. I feel they could have given the first episode more attractive scenes so viewers don't get uninterested before getting way into the movie.

    Aside that, I also found the introduction of a new plot twist at every episode tiring. We were still unraveling secrets and finding twists at the second to the last episode of the series. In trying to introduce new twists every now and then, there were some scenes I deemed unnecessary and unfit for the whole point of the movie.

    Overall, I would rate the series a 4.5/5 as it completely served it's sole purpose which is entertainment. Its a series worth watching and I absolutely loved it.

    Reasons for Watching this Drama

    Time Travel Drama

    This drama aired last year and finished last year. At first, it was interesting because last year there were lots of psychopath stories. It makes my head spin. This fictional drama, I think is very interesting. Time travel and revenge dramas are interesting. That's what I thought. Living a second life and making the most of it all. However, in this life, I think we need to maximize life even if we are not in a second life.

Han Yi Ju experienced the trauma of not being able to eat because he was poisoned when he was little. Seo Du Geok experienced trauma when he was involved in the ship. From the trauma experienced and the meeting between the two, they healed each other.

    Played by Jin Ji Hee

    I followed the drama Panthouse and liked the role played by Jin Ji Hee. That's why, in this drama, I want to see the development of Jin Ji Hee's role. Jin Ji Hee's role is very good. Moreover, he plays the antagonist role in this drama. It seems that the antagonist role is suitable for Jin Ji Hee. I hope Jin Ji Hee can get better roles in the future,

    A Truth Always Comes Out

    In this drama, it was initially revealed that Han Yi Ju was an adopted child. But, after I watched it and finished, I if Han Yi Ju was not an adopted child. Past events are revealed and Han Yi Ju is her father's biological child. The ending of this drama ends happily. Where Han Yi Ju and Seo Du Goek get a daughter and both end up happy. That's all I can say, see you in the next story.

    Rating : 8/10

  3. Perfect Marriage Revenge || Series Review@jhymi838d

    Wouldn’t say I’m back in my K-drama era, but I can say I’m nearly there. I missed the actors, the language, the plot and the twists that are second nature when it comes to K-drama. I’m not a fan of hype so even though there were a lot of reviews about this series, I got it because of the theme which is the kind I fancy watching. It was kind of obvious from the title so I got the memo immediately and loved it.

    Perfect Marriage Revenge

    This series was released in 2023. It has twelve episodes, as opposed to sixteen episodes which is more common with Korean drama, hence, you can already tell that it will be fast-paced. And also stars known actors like Jung Yoo Min and Lee Mi Sook. For those who are conversant with K-drama, these names may be familiar.

    Summary of The Plot

    The story begins with a painter, who has just finished an exquisite portrait of a family. This is our protagonist, Yi Joo and after making a few calls, she proceeds to take it to a gallery where her Mom and sister run. It is from this encounter that we figure out the kind of life Yi Joo lives. She is an adopted child of her parents and is treated with disdain by her Step-mom and sister. We also find out that Yi Joo is married but unfortunately, her husband is in love with her younger sister, Yoo Ra.

    The situation is quite pitiful for Yi Joo who spends her entire life trying to please her family to no avail. Then on her way back from the museum after being framed by her Step-mom and also discovering her husband’s feelings for her sister, she gets involved in an accident and eventually dies after listening to her Step-mom’s mindless gloating by her hospital bed.

    Yi-Joo wakes up to realize that she has been taken back in time to exactly one year before this incident and interestingly, there's a count down too. Armed with the knowledge of the future and the truth about her Step-mom and husband, she vows to take revenge against all of them, and to that end, she makes a marriage contract with Do Guk. Can love blossom between these two despite the circumstances, can she get her revenge and most of all, will she do it before the time is up?

    Review and Rating

    I was immediately hooked in the first episode of this story so that’s a huge point to the creators. I could count on one hand the number of K-dramas I’ve watched that have me hooked in the first episode and still have fingers left. It’s not something that happens a lot, and mostly the heat starts from the second, sometimes even the third episode. Perfect Marriage Revenge delivered on this score so kudos to them.

    I also loved the acting of the main leads. They interpreted and portrayed their roles impeccably, especially Jung Yoo Min who acted the role of the protagonist, To Joo. She was exquisite in her acting and you could feel every emotion she went through. Her joy, pain, anger...it all felt real because she made them feel real. I also enjoyed the chemistry she had with the male lead. Many lead characters may interpret their roles but if they lack chemistry, it would have a bland taste to it. Theirs, while not the best, was still just right, so points to them for that as well.

    And now to the bad parts. The first for me would be the humour. If you’re an avid watcher of K-drama, you’d know that one thing that is rarely lacking in their films is humour. There’s usually lots of it, even in series with a serious theme. As someone who is always looking forward to those funny scenes, I was extremely dissatisfied seeing that they couldn’t bring the humour to life.

    Also, while the plot was okay, the scene-by-scene acting was not. The supporting characters went over the top with their acting and were often far too dramatic than what was required in certain scenes. The villains were far too simplistic and a bit monotonous. For a revenge story, the comebacks and suspense should have set us on edge the entire time, but it turned out drap because there were too many happy scenes and the villains just weren’t villainy enough.

    And then, the ending. It was kind of underwhelming. But then again, that’s something I find common with K-dramas. Inability to land smoothly. So, it’s either rushed or underdone and in this case, it was the latter, plus the villains’ end wasn’t clear enough. It was a tad disappointing generally but I’ll give it 7/10, simply because of the good parts to it and the fact that it successfully reignited my passion for K-dramas. There’s another hyped one with a revenge theme as well. I hope I enjoy it more.
