  1. Plunderer@seki11449d

So I decided to spend my time today looking at old animes I've downloaded and I came across this. My initial thought was when did I download this and how could I have forgotten such a show. I checked when it came out and I realized, with it's debut on January 9 2020 and with the more heated anime that came out that year like Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon slayer, a gold in the rough like this was practically overlooked. Plunderer is an anime that shows how a war hero became traumatized and deals with such trauma. Although it sounds sad, the anime doesn't really show it with every episode being comic and action packed one might not even notice the sad parts.

    Plot

The story begins with a young Hina receiving a ballot from her mother before she fell to the abyss. Her mother told her to go find the legendary Ace. Hina travelled all round looking for said Ace before she went to a town and met Licht Bach and Nana.

The ballots are 7 mysterious balls that fell down from the sky unto earth. They give their Holders unimaginable power by casting a vote and they're the main items of conflict in the anime. 300 years ago the other countries used the ballots to cast a vote by majority decision to start the waste wars. Japan was not made aware of such decision so they were targeted. Japan was able to defend themselves by making the Aces who became heroes in this war. The instructors of the 13th General Military Forces School instructed the Aces to collect all 7 ballots. With all the ballots they made a continent 3000 feet in the air by unanimous vote and named it Alcia. In this continent they plundered all the resources from the world below, food, water and other mineral resources knowing without fuel their continent would never be threatened by aircraft.

This animes power systems is based on numbers otherwise known as Counts. Count's are things given to you at your birth and it describes the things you'll count until you die. It could be something as grand as how many times you achieved your dream or as menial as how many times someone told you your food was delicious. Determined by the positive or the negative aspect of such declarations your counts increases or decreases. It was shown in Episode 6 that a person is born with a predetermined amount of counts, for Pelmo claimed she was given birth to with 10. Subsequently when your count reaches zero you go to the Abyss.

    Characters

Hina Hina is the female protagonist of this series. Her bright blue her and her petite stature makes the show a lot more spicy.

    Screenshot_20220720_164256.png

When she first came she didn't know a lot about the world which I found a bit weird. She has walked at least 40,000 kilometers in her search for the Legendary Ace although coincidentally her count is the distance she walks so it goes in her favor.

Licht Bach Licht Bach also known as the Ace of Flashing strikes is the main character of the show. He was a hero in the waste wars, he is also the male protagonist of this anime, bringing the comedic streak with his pervy antics one of such was when he first met Hina lamenting on how he lost money going to an adult store and deviated the conversation incredibly to wanting to look up her panties causing him to get beat up by Nana.

    Screenshot_20220719_210702.png

    Screenshot_20220719_210707.png

He is known for wearing outrageous masks and it adds more comedy to the film although his face is quite handsome. Although being incredibly pervy and comic he is also serious when the situation calls it. That being shown when Hina was taken by a perverted officer claiming to be an Ace to sleep with misguided girls.

    Screenshot_20220719_211127.png

Sadly he left Hina on the pretense of stealing her ballot to keep her safe and went to a village on a cliff called Homhough where he met May Lynn, Jail and Pele. He has 2 counts; one on his hand that counts the amount of girls that have fallen in love with him the current count is at -1002. It's in the negative meaning the amount of girls that had rejected him is in -1002. Then another on his sword which stands for the amount of enemies he has killed for his friends and it is at 5700.

Nana Nana is the Ace of knowledge. She is a busty woman with silver hair and purple eyes. Her count is based on the amount of people that says her cooking is delicious. She is actually the first Ace to be made. She has the ability to travel in time and send people back in time. I don't know what her second count is counting though it seems to be linked directly with her power as it reduces when she sends people into the past. She has been with Licht since he deserted the military.

    Screenshot_20220720_185547.png

May Lynn May Lynn is a busty officer that was in charge of Homhough, but with the lack of crime in the village she decided to indulge her time in volunteer work with her count involving the amount of times she helped someone this was a good plan for her to get promoted. She is a bit clumsy and to me is the perfect waifu for Licht. She has a strong hatred for miniskirts as she said usually and she claims her dream is to make it to the rank of First Lieutenant and be able to freely alter her uniform.

    Screenshot_20220720_055155.png

    Screenshot_20220720_055141.png

Pele Pele is her sergeant but not all is known about him for he acts stupid yet appears to be way more smarter than Lynn. He specializes in Information gathering and medicals as he showed in the time travel arc, also knowing a bit in hand to hand combat not taught in Alcia military school. His count isn't known. One thing is known is that he supports Lynn and stands by her side. Although it's my personal opinion, I think he likes her

    Screenshot_20220719_084804.png

    Screenshot_20220719_084810.png

    Screenshot_20220719_084826.png

Jail Murdoch 5 Jail is an officer of the rank First Lieutenant who was chasing Licht. After questioning Nana and Hina he manages to discern that he went west and he follows until he reached Homhough

    Screenshot_20220720_060518.png

Reaching Homhough he and Licht were engaged in a battle, but Licht didn't take him seriously and didn't use his full power which infuriated Jail. When Jail confronted him about this Licht simply answered he didn't use his full power because Lynn said she didn't want to destroy the village. Licht then increased his speed and power to match Jail's own and later beat him, but in the process they took a good chunk out of the hill and Lynn was on that chunk. Falling to her supposed death Jail tried to save her, but Licht moved faster than he could. Licht caught Lynn and threw her to him. Jail was angry that Licht didn't face him seriously again but before he could do anything about it, Licht was already gone.

    Screenshot_20220720_061948.png

Jail's count is based on his convictions and being a high ranking official of the military he has a replica ballot which gives him his iron controlling powers. The amount of convictions made true. When he made his anime debut he had a count of 12500, but after being affiliated with Licht it dropped to 12498 then after a star stake with General Alexander Grigovitch for the head of the military he is left with a count of 1.

This is an anime that I find really close to my heart and my mind. The characters are so relatable and their growth throughout the series was well thought out. Even though it is a new generation anime the comedic scenes takes me back to the days of watching Rurouni Kenshin with my sister 🤧. The anime really tried in the blending of the story, the comedy, action and erotic parts really matches each other and nothing was too much if you get what I mean😂. All in all I think it's a pretty good animation project. The only flaw I saw was with their eyes showing through their hair although it was quite distracting other things are alright. I'll give the anime a 8/10 rating The anime has 1 season with a span of 24 episodes and I can assure you that each episode is more interesting and more addictive than the last. If you haven't watched Plunderer i really recommend it. If you've read to the end I just want to say thank you. I really tried to cut things out😂❤️

  2. HO HO HO!!! QUE SORPRESA!!! HABLEMOS DE PLUNDERER@melochacalie2030d

  3. Binged -watched "Plunderer' today!@jlordc2231d

Well I'm not exactly proud of this but I just spent almost the entire day watching the anime "Plunderer". XD

As to what's it all about, it's one of those story that is set on a post-apocalyptic world but on this one everyone is branded with a "COUNT" (kinda look like a tatoo engraved on a part of their body which increases or decreases depending on what the 'count' is related to their life). This 'count' is very important as once their count drops to 0/Zero, they will be dragged down or sent to the abyss.

The story starts off with a young girl who set out on a journey searching for the "Legendary Ace", a mission given by her mother right before her mother was sent to the abyss.

    vlcsnap2020052812h09m28s712.png

I'm not gonna do a full review so I'm just gonna talk about what I felt watching the series which is:

"It's honestly not that good but also not that bad! XD"

What I really dislike about this anime is the insane amount of fan service. While a little groping of some female breasts and a little peak on their panties (and against their will at that) is a little nice and all in an "ecchi(?)" anime, there is such a thing as too much.

Kinda reminds me of Meliodas in "The Seven Deadly Sins" but without the comedic impact impact. XD But if you can get past that, this one is actually not that kind of bad of an anime.

The animation, artstyle and even the battle/action scenes are pretty great. If they can only tone down a little the 'perverted scenes' which feels really irrelevant to the story except for comedic impact which unfortunately is a miss and even takes too much time in a 20-minute anime episode, then I would have said this anime is a good one to watch.

That's what I felt watching the first 13-15 episodes though, after Episode 15 it actually starts to get reallyyyyyyy good with all the background and possibly origin stories being slowly explained.

Still they really need to turn down the excessive fan service. XD

  5. Plunderer Review (Episodes 1-17)@dlstudios2247d

    image.png

Plunderers is an odd show, because if you read the description the show you start to watch feels nothing like what you read. It is described as a post-apocalypses, but nothing about the show feels like anything other than fantasy until the tenth episode, and even than that's a stretch. It's not really until episode fourteen or fifteen you start to see this as any kind of post-apocalypse. It's one of those things that's good to go into the show knowing so you are a bit more aware of what you're getting into.

That said, the show follows around Licht, who has been identified as one of the Legendary Ace's of the Waste War three hundred years ago, and Hina, a girl who is on a quest to give a Ballot to one of the Legendary Aces. Seventeen episodes in, I'm still not sure why it was Hina's mother wanted to deliver this ballot to one of the Aces. Licht himself is on the run from the government, but of course something happens that forces him to reveal himself to save Hina.

    image.png

But now we have to get into how this world operates. Everyone has a number, and that number is somewhere on their bodies. Each person has something they can do that causes their number to go up, and something that causes it to go down. The higher your count, the higher your status in society. With the exception of the military, who can refuse to listen to someone of a higher number than them unless they enter into a Star Stake, a fight which the loser loses a certain amount of their number to the other. Once a person reaches zero, an entity known as Alting drags them into the Abyss.

Ballots, which I brought up a bit earlier, artificially increase a persons Ballot count. This is how Licht, with a number of negative nine hundred and ninety nine, is still here as he possesses a Ballot of five thousand seven hundred. People who wield Ballots also gain access to some kind of power. The higher their count, the stronger the power. Or so the show explains, as when you are introduced to Jail Murdoch, things get a bit odd. When a persons count drops, you only see it on their body number, the number on the Ballot remains the same. However with Jail when his count drops by one, you see the number on his glove lower (A massive 12,500 to start). Though as you later realize, he isn't even using his ballot at the time. His actual Ballot gives him an additional 45,000. Here's the thing though, the show states the great powers they get come from the Ballots, but he can create and fight with his Iron powers even without making use of his Ballot, which comes with the implication that anyone that reaches a high enough count can use these abilities. At least until later, when Jail is without his Ballot, he isn't able to use his abilities. The show has a lot of small inconsistencies like this, and it can make it a frustrating watch if you're the kind to pick up on things like that.

The real issue with the show comes with the characters, outside of Jail and Lynne, being dull and uninteresting. Licht himself proves to be a heavy anchor around the shows neck. I do love me a well written pervert, but I'd say about seventy percent of the time you see Licht he is molesting and creeping on women. The thing is though it happens so constantly and never cleverly or funnily (With one exception during the last couple episodes to be releases) within seconds the joke gets old, and the joke doesn't change every time they do it. It's not offensive, it just feels lazy they felt the need to hammer in the same joke so many times. That kind of sums up most of the characters as well, they have a shtick that get's run into the ground fast.

    image.png

It's a shame because there are a lot of interesting ideas here, they are just bogged down by the irritating writing. A large part of the show is humour that falls flat, there are enough inconsistencies with the rules of the world to become annoying, and three of the five characters you follow just aren't interesting as characters. I loved the story behind Licht when you finally learn it, and the reason for him becoming this Legendary Ace and why it is he killed so many people despite hating murder is fascinating. And you do have some good characters like Jail who I'd love to follow around far more than Licht.

The fights, however, can be great. You oddly don't get that many, but when they do crop up they are energetic, grand, and fun to watch. Again most of the credit in this one goes to Jail who uses his power to create Iron in a decent variety of ways considering the short amount of screen time action gets in the show. I think the show would have done well to focus more on the action as that would have at least given it more cool things to watch.

    image.png

A last thing I'll bring up is something I can't entirely confirm, but given Funimation's track record of altering dialogue with buzzwords (See Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid ) to try and prove a point I'm tempted to believe this. Lynne wants too raise her rank in the military to have the option of picking her uniform, as she fights with kicks and doesn't like the short skirt on hers, and refers to it as a 'Sexual Harrasment Uniform'. Calling it that does not sound like a way either Lynne, or any other human being for that matter, would speak. The problem is this show didn't get a lot of attention, so a lot of the people who would normally look at and point out changes like this didn't see it, so it's hard to say for sure. Either way it's a really cringey line, whether it's an accurate translation or Funimation being Funimation.

I just can't get behind this show. The things that start to make it interesting happen way to late, and even the mild interest they generate isn't enough to keep watching. It had some interesting ideas here and there that really could have been used to make something great, but what we got is largely suppar ecchi with no real substance to back any of it up. I'd give it a pass.

  6. Plunderer - Una Gran Sorpresa@necronx242265d

    a.jpg
