In Norse mythology, Rán is a goddess and personification of the sea. Rán and her husband Ægir, a jötunn who also personifies the sea, produced together nine daughters who personify the sea waves. Rán also has a son Snær who personifies the snow. Rán may also be the mother of the beautiful jötunn Gerðr, wife of the god Freyr. This movie is among my favorite movies ever recorded, if not the most favorite. The whole story of the movie was taken from Shakespeare's story about King Lear, even tho Kurosawa claimed that he didn't knew about the connection between the movie story and Shakespeare work.
