   Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero que se encuentren bien el día de hoy. Ayer mi hermana me dijo que viéramos una película de género terror y suspenso, una producción del cine español que por sus propias palabras se convirtió en una de sus películas favoritas y que además solo tiene una duración de una hora y quince minutos. No suelo ver películas de terror pero ahora que estamos viendo algunas juntas me llama cada vez más la atención este tipo de películas y las diferentes historias o tramas que pueden llegar a ser tan sorprendentes como la que vimos llamada REC dirigida por Jaume Balagueró y Paco Plaza y que fue estrenada en el año 2007 recibiendo muy buenas críticas hasta el día de hoy por ser un referente de las películas de terror contemporáneo.

Yesterday my sister told me to watch a movie of horror and suspense genre, a Spanish film production that by her own words became one of her favorite movies and that also only has a duration of one hour and fifteen minutes. I don't usually watch horror movies but now that we are watching some together I am more and more attracted to this kind of movies and the different stories or plots that can be as surprising as the one we saw called REC directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza and that was released in 2007 receiving very good reviews until today for being a reference of contemporary horror movies.

   La trama sigue a una joven reportera llamada Angela Vidal, interpretada por Manuela Velasco que junto a su amigo camarógrafo decide grabar lo que sería un día en la vida de un grupo de bomberos mientras realizan su trabajo. Todo va muy bien mientras graban cómo es la vida de un bombero y lo que hace con el tiempo que tiene libre antes de escuchar la alarma que alerta que necesitan sus servicios, en este caso Angela quiere grabar cuando esto sucede y finalmente se da la oportunidad de que los solicitan debido a que hay problemas en un edificio de la ciudad. Angela va muy animada junto al camarógrafo contando todo lo que se está viviendo pero no sabe que lo que sería un reportaje común se convertiría en la peor pesadilla que puede vivir una persona.

   The plot follows a young reporter named Angela Vidal, played by Manuela Velasco who along with her cameraman friend decides to record what would be a day in the life of a group of firefighters as they go about their work. Everything goes very well as they record how is the life of a firefighter and what they do with the time they have free before hearing the alarm that alerts that they need their services, in this case Angela wants to record when this happens and finally the opportunity is given that they are requested because there are problems in a building in the city. Angela is very animated with the cameraman telling everything that is happening but she does not know that what would be a common report would become the worst nightmare that a person can live.

   Las cosas se comienzan a complicar cuando una de las residentes del edificio muestra un comportamiento extraño dónde incluso atacó a una persona de manera brutal y descontrolada. Esto solo sería el comienzo de toda una situación de peligro y temor entre los vecinos, los bomberos y los que se encargan de cuidar del edificio, cuándo van al piso donde vive está anciana se dan cuenta de que está completamente fuera de lo normal, bañada en sangre ataca a uno de los bomberos que están en el lugar lo que desata el desespero entre los vecinos quienes dicen que la señora esta desquiciada y esto se confirma cuando al atacar quita con sus dientes parte de la piel y el cuello de un hombre. Todo es bastante extraño y mucho más viéndolo desde la cámara que va junto a la reportera y al camarógrafo quien a pesar de ser amenazado para que no siga con la grabación el continúa.

   Things start to get complicated when one of the residents of the building shows a strange behavior where she even attacked a person in a brutal and uncontrolled way. This would only be the beginning of a whole situation of danger and fear among neighbors, firefighters and those who are in charge of taking care of the building, when they go to the floor where this old lady lives they realize that she is completely out of the ordinary, bathed in blood she attacks one of the firefighters who are in place which unleashes despair among the neighbors who say that the lady is unhinged and this is confirmed when she attacks and removes with her teeth part of the skin and neck of a man. The whole thing is quite strange and even more so when seen from the camera that is next to the reporter and the cameraman who, in spite of being threatened not to continue with the recording, continues.

   La situación se grabó en tiempo real y de una forma muy cercana a través de la cámara que lleva el camarógrafo y la reportera, ellos van siguiendo de cerca toda la situación digna de una historia de terror que no se logra entender entre los que están dentro del edificio. Al avanzar la historia podemos saber que hay una especie de contaminación en el lugar y que se transmite a través de la saliva, lo que nos deja en claro que es una especie de virus que puede hacer que las personas se conviertan casi en zombies y que muestre un lado de la película muy sobrenatural. El que todos estén atrapados en este edificio hace que la tensión aumente y que todo sea más terrible de ver, sobre todo con la constante grabación que se mantiene durante toda la película y que permite sentir mucho más de cerca el pánico de estás personas dentro del edificio.

   The situation was filmed in real time and in a very close way through the camera carried by the cameraman and the reporter, they are closely following the whole situation worthy of a horror story that is not understood among those who are inside the building. As the story progresses we learn that there is a kind of contamination in the place and that it is transmitted through saliva, which makes it clear that it is a kind of virus that can make people become almost zombies and shows a very supernatural side of the film. The fact that everyone is trapped in this building increases the tension and makes everything more terrible to watch, especially with the constant recording that is maintained throughout the film and that allows us to feel much more closely the panic of these people inside the building.

   Mi primera impresión fue que estaba viendo una buena historia de terror y suspenso y que mi hermana tenía razón en que la historia y la forma en la que grabaron la película la hace única, además de que todo es incierto no sabes que es lo que puede ocurrir en el siguiente segundo y tienes esa sensación de miedo y de incertidumbre mientras vez a las personas siendo infectadas o morir durante el proceso de la historia. La forma en que grabaron la película me pareció increíble y una buena manera de captar las escenas y hacerlas ver mucho más intensas y llenas de horror. Es tan buena la película que sentí como si hubiera durado solo media hora, me parece que el cine latinoamericano e hispano tiene muchas cosas interesantes que lo hacen ser de una manera muy realista y en esta película eso le agregó un toque más de horror mientras veía cómo todos sufren por estar encerrados en este lugar mientras estaba latente la idea de que podrían morir debido a este virus.

   My first impression was that I was watching a good horror and suspense story and that my sister was right in that the story and the way they shot the movie makes it unique, besides everything is uncertain you don't know what can happen in the next second and you have that feeling of fear and uncertainty while watching people being infected or dying during the process of the story. I thought the way they shot the movie was amazing and a good way to capture the scenes and make them look much more intense and full of horror. The movie is so good that I felt like it only lasted half an hour, it seems to me that Latin American and Hispanic cinema has many interesting things that make it be very realistic and in this movie that added a touch more horror while watching how everyone suffers for being locked up in this place while the idea that they could die due to this virus was latent.

   Lo que más me gustó fue la escenografía del edificio, un laberinto de pasillos oscuros y escaleras, contribuye a la atmósfera claustrofóbica y que genera un terror con solo verla. La iluminación tenue y los espacios cerrados generan un sentido de aislamiento, lo que aumenta la tensión a medida que los personajes intentan escapar de la amenaza que está latente en cualquier lugar al que vayan dentro de este edificio. La elección de utilizar la camara para grabar todo de cerca y que se sienta como si el espectador está dentro de la trama hace que se sienta el miedo más profundo. Siento que hay muchas películas como estás que pocas personas conocen como en mi caso, pero que valen totalmente la pena verlas y descubrir grandes filmes que sin importar el país de donde fueron realizadas pueden ser grandes aportes al cine.

   What I liked most was the set design of the building, a labyrinth of dark corridors and staircases, which contributes to the claustrophobic atmosphere and generates a sense of dread just by looking at it. The dim lighting and enclosed spaces create a sense of isolation, which heightens the tension as the characters try to escape the threat that is latent everywhere they go inside this building. The choice to use the camera to record everything up close and have it feel as if the viewer is inside the plot makes the fear feel deeper. I feel that there are many films like this that few people know about as in my case, but that are totally worth watching and discovering great films that regardless of the country where they were made can be great contributions to cinema.

   Así que si tienen una oportunidad de ver está película les recomiendo no dejarla pasar, es una historia atrapante y que te llena de incertidumbre además de que es una de las mejores películas de terror que he visto y una muy original dentro del género. Espero puedan verla y me dejen sus comentarios sobre que les pareció, la pueden encontrar en Magistv, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video y cualquier página de películas online en idioma español o subtitulada.

   So if you have a chance to see this movie I recommend you not to miss it, it is a gripping story that fills you with uncertainty and it is one of the best horror movies I've seen and a very original within the genre.    Barcelona, 2007. Todo parece rutinario en la estación de bomberos, donde Ángela y su camarógrafo intentan hacer otro buen reportaje para los ciudadanos que no duermen por las noches. La cámara graba aquí y allá, con Ángela de fondo y unas cuantas patrullas. No hay nada interesante más que algunas entrevistas, ¿aburrido, no? Sí, pero cuando el dúo decide participar en uno de los tantos patrullajes nocturnos, el verdadero espectáculo se vislumbra; un espectáculo sangriento y horripilante que los llevará a maldecir el día en que decidieron ser tan metiches como para entrometerse en la vida de los bomberos que, desde luego, no es para nada tranquila… al menos no en esta película.

   Barcelona, 2007. Everything seems routine at the fire station, where Angela and her cameraman are trying to make another good report for the citizens who don't sleep at night. The camera records here and there, with Angela in the background and a few patrol cars. Nothing is interesting other than a few interviews - boring, isn't it? Yes, but when the duo decides to participate in one of the many night patrols, the real show comes into view; a bloody and gruesome spectacle that will lead them to curse the day they decided to be so nosy as to meddle in the lives of firefighters, which is certainly not quiet at all... at least not in this film.

   Rec fue la primera película de horror en idioma español que vi en mi adolescencia. Ya estaba yo familiarizado con el estilo Found Footage, el cual llegó a mis ojos por primera vez con Actividad Paranormal. Debo admitir que ambas películas tienen algo en común, más allá del estilo cinematográfico, y esta relación radia en su temática oscura. Claro está que Rec da un salto diferente a lo que estamos acostumbrados a ver en cuanto a las posiciones demoniacas. Acá no es la típica casa embrujada, sino un virus que corrompe el cuerpo y lo deja a merced del mal.

   Si has visto Resident Evil hallarás un punto en común (al menos en los detalles) con respecto a esta cinta española. ¿Por qué? Simple: el cúmulo de protagonistas queda atrapados dentro de un edificio residencial, sin poder salir por orden de las autoridades sanitarias españolas. Si escapan, serán recibidos por las balas. Lo peor: los encierran a traición. Nadie dentro del edificio sabe por qué los inquilinos tienen una insaciable sed de sangre. Uno a uno irá cayendo, de las formas más espeluznantes, sin comprender el origen de unos zombis diabólicos que les clavan los dientes.

   Rec was the first Spanish-language horror movie I saw as a teenager. I was already familiar with the Found Footage style, which first came to my eyes with Paranormal Activity. I must admit that both films have something in common, beyond the cinematic style, and this relationship lies in their dark subject matter. Of course, Rec takes a different leap from what we are used to seeing in terms of demonic positions. Here it's not the typical haunted house, but a virus that corrupts the body and leaves it at the mercy of evil.

   If you have seen Resident Evil you will find a common point (at least in the details) concerning this Spanish film. Why? Simple: the main characters are trapped inside a residential building, unable to leave by order of the Spanish health authorities. If they escape, they will be met by bullets. What's worse: they are locked up treacherously. Nobody inside the building knows why the tenants have an unquenchable thirst for blood. One by one they will fall, in the most horrifying ways, without understanding the origin of the diabolical zombies that sink their teeth into them.

   Esa perspectiva de cámara en primera persona suele darle un toque más aterrador a esta historia. De hecho, mientras el camarógrafo corre y grita, pareciera que es el espectador que está allí, dentro del edificio, con las mismas posibilidades de escapar que tiene un pez en el agua. Rec acude al no profesionalismo para asustar con profesionalismo, al menos en esto triunfa. No obstante, la carencia de tomas más abiertas y menos estables puede entorpecer la tranquilidad de quienes no están acostumbrados al Found Footage. No es que esté del todo mal, quizás hasta sea un elemento extra para cubrir de tensión a quien mira más allá de la pantalla.

   Para ser una película que no nació en Hollywood, Rec tiene una confección a la altura de películas muy famosas en el mismo género. El tema de los zombis es repetitivo, contra eso Jaume Balagueró y Paco Plaza (escritores y directores del film) hicieron una labor que debo reconocer aplaudiendo. Como elemento distintivo, un poco de humor e ironía, al mezclar la temática de posesiones con la de los muertos vivientes. Debo aclarar, sin embargo, lo siguiente: Rec no es comedia. El humor salpica, pero el terror conquista todo el metraje.

   That first-person camera perspective tends to give a more terrifying touch to this story. While the cameraman runs and screams, it seems that he is the spectator who is there, inside the building, with the same chances of escaping as a fish in the water. Rec resorts to unprofessionalism to scare with professionalism, at least in this it succeeds. However, the lack of more open and less stable shots may hinder the peace of mind of those not accustomed to Found Footage. Not that it's all bad, perhaps it's even an extra element to cover the tension for those who look beyond the screen.

   For a film that was not born in Hollywood, Rec has a confection on par with very famous films in the same genre. The zombie theme is repetitive, against which Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza (writers and directors of the film) did a job that I must acknowledge applauding. As a distinctive element, a bit of humor and irony, by mixing the theme of possessions with that of the living dead. I must clarify, however, the following: Rec is not a comedy. The humor is splashy, but the horror conquers the whole footage.

   Los puntos altos de la trama, por otra parte, parecen llevar al origen de la locura ocasionada por el inentendible virus demoniaco, investigado de la nada por las autoridades sanitarias que encierran a los protagonistas en el edificio. Allí hay algunos huecos, y una resolución sobre el origen que si bien no está mal, pudo ser mejor. La falta de una mejor conexión entre causa y efecto me llevó a dudar un poco del planteamiento del film con interrogantes muy realistas, pero vamos, es solo un metraje, y no por esto el largometraje termina fallando. En conclusión: el horror se sobrepone a los desperfectos en Rec.

   Esta película es un poco más fresca que las nacidas en Hollywood, al menos en estilo y trama. La inesperada tertulia de Ángela y su camarógrafo te dejará pensando por algunas noches, sobre todo si terminas la saga completa, que tiene tres películas más. Si buscas algo que ver para que saltes del miedo, entonces Rec es una opción que debes considerar.

   The high points of the plot, on the other hand, seem to lead to the origin of the madness caused by the unintelligible demonic virus, investigated out of nowhere by the health authorities who lock the protagonists in the building. There are some gaps there, and a resolution about the origin that while not bad, could have been better. The lack of a better connection between cause and effect led me to doubt a bit the approach of the film with very realistic questions, but come on, it's only one footage, and not because of this the feature film ends up failing. In conclusion: the horror overcomes the flaws in Rec.

   This film is a bit fresher than the Hollywood-born ones, at least in style and plot. The unexpected chatter of Angela and her cameraman will leave you thinking for a few nights, especially if you finish the entire saga, which has three more films. If you're looking for something to watch to make you jump out of your skin, then Rec is an option to consider.

3. ›Daily Movie Recommendation - REC (2007)@vincentnijman3045d

   

   I remember watching this at a film festival in The Netherlands, ten years ago. I saw it with a friend, with whom I usually watch Russian movies. We made an exception for this film, that I had picked, based on a tiny description of its story. We didn't really know what to expect but thought it would be fun.

   
   Let's say that it was a pleasant surprise, even though it isn't what you call a fun movie. In fact, it is probably the scariest Spanish movie that I've ever seen. Although it would probably be a tie with El Orfanato (The Orphanage, 2007).

   I must have watched REC a handful of times, since then, and I have enjoyed it every single viewing. It keeps giving me goosebumps. I watched part 2 and 3, once, but they felt like more of the same. Or actually, 'less' of the same. While writing this post, I learnt that there is a REC 4 coming up. It honestly doesn't really pique my interest, but, if you love watching sequels of great movies, you might want to give it a try.

   Perhaps, if you haven't watched REC yet, you should start out with REC 4. I'm pretty sure that this (first) movie will be a pleasant surprise afterwards. Not too long after I had seen this film, it became quite a big international success. It was made for 1.5 million - I guess people would call it a low budget production - but eventually grossed over 30 million. More than twenty times it's budget. Pretty successful, don't you think?

   I guess I managed to do, once again, what my twin sister told me a couple of days ago. She said that I write about movies without really writing about the movie itself. It's more about the personal story, combined with a vague description. She said she liked that. She is right. That is exactly what I'm doing and it isn't because I don't want to spoil anything. It's just my style and I can't help but being me...

   Today I selected the movie [Rec] (2007) for the daily movie recommendation which is directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza being Spanish directors and also is the first movie seen from this directors who have succeeded with this film to create something unique and beautiful with a budget of €1,500,000 but let's not forget that the movie lasts only 1h 18min but in my opinion is a small budget and I'm glad when I see something good being created with such amounts. Let's get started and see why I liked this movie and I'll explain a few things about it.

   

   The movie begins with the reporter Angela Vidal and her cameraman Pablo who is filming for the documentary television series While You're Sleeping and they went to a local fire stations in Barcelona where they want to discover as much as possible about this profession.

   

   While they recording the area of the fire stations and the workers, the firehouse receives a call which it's about Mrs. Izquierdo a old woman who was stuck in her apartment and screaming and many neighbors began to worry about her condition.

   

   After they arrived to the apartment building accompanied by two firemen Álex and Manu are expected by two cops which helps them enter the old woman's apartment which seemed very strange and while a policeman approached her, she biting his neck. The policeman is in very serious condition and is carried downstairs where they find the rest of the neighbors gathered in the lobby and the building being isolated from outside by the police and the military. Further I'll leave you to see with your eyes what will happen next and I don't want to reveal more details because doing that I can ruin the movie. Is a movie that surprised me with the original story and the way how it was filmed It seemed very real and if you've seen movies like Cloverfield (2008), Paranormal Activity and others of its kind, you know what I'm talking about. The actors also played very well and this has been seen in many phases and the directors have managed to do an exceptional thing with such a small budget. I'm curious about your opinions,also don't forget to request the movie genre which you like to be recommended for tomorrow.
