Movie Review: The Legend of "Ray"/Reseña de Película: La Leyenda de "Ray"
En esta obra dramática musical: “Ray” (2004) se convierte en esa película que relata como especie de Biografía, el legado y tormentos del gran Ray Charles, un ciego cantante de Jazz. Interpretado por el ganador del Óscar, Jamie Foxx.
Comienza con la dura infancia de “Ray” quien por esos destinos de la vida, a muy temprana edad, pierde la vista, Asimismo, también pierde a un hermano por esos sucesos fatales que pasan en las familias y que marcan a las personas. Luego podemos ver como es enviado, siendo un niño a una escuela de ciegos, y por la cual, salió por la puerta grande como una leyenda musical, arreglista, jazzista y compositor de gran fama nacional e internacional.
Cumpliendo el deseo de su mamá en aras de ser emprendedor a pesar de sus limitaciones visuales que solo eran superadas con su talento y su potencial auditivo.
Esta película relata como un personaje de este calibre es capaz de sobrellevar y de construir una vida de artista en una época donde la segregación racial en los Estados Unidos de los años cincuenta y sesenta, era implacable.
Que una persona negra penetrara musicalmente los oídos blancos con música negras, era algo que pocos lograban, siendo la música un punto de integración social y humana para esos artistas que lograban tal proeza.
Comienza con la dura infancia de “Ray” quien por esos destinos de la vida, a muy temprana edad, pierde la vista, Asimismo, también pierde a un hermano por esos sucesos fatales que pasan en las familias y que marcan a las personas. Luego podemos ver como es enviado, siendo un niño a una escuela de ciegos, y por la cual, salió por la puerta grande como una leyenda musical, arreglista, jazzista y compositor de gran fama nacional e internacional.

Es de destacar que en la película, la caracterización de Jamie Foxx, nos remite a sentir que estamos ante el gran “Genio del Jazz” porque canta y toca el piano de tal forma que podemos apreciar que su interpretación va más allá e incluso, podemos confundirlo con “Ray”
Es de hacer notar que no solo hablamos del éxito, la fama y las barreras que logró romper, también esta historia relata sus altibajos, que dentro de la industria se hacen pequeños demonios personales que van carcomiendo la salud por el uso excesivo de las drogas. Su drama personal con la heroína y otras sustancias usadas por la misma dinámica de sus actividades musicales y por la dependencia que esto le produjo.
Es de acotar que muy a pesar de sus limitaciones, la ceguera no fue impedimento para enrredarlo con otra de sus obsesiones: Las mujeres, puesto que su posición musical le brindó la oportunidad de tener amoríos con coristas, cantantes y mujeres relacionadas con el área, y que en esta obra se puede ver comedia, dolor y tragedia, de estos líos de faldas que marcaron su vida y su trayectoria.
Además esta leyenda fue pionera de los logros y el respeto, que ganó para el gentilicio negro, tomando un espacio para que consideraran su música, más allá de los colores. Algo que en aquella época era un tema controversial y con el paso del tiempo, abrió camino para que los artistas de color de las décadas siguientes fueran reconocidos y valorados hasta el presente. Donde además se muestra un legado musical que sigue presente hasta hoy.
Es de hacer notar que no solo hablamos del éxito, la fama y las barreras que logró romper, también esta historia relata sus altibajos, que dentro de la industria se hacen pequeños demonios personales que van carcomiendo la salud por el uso excesivo de las drogas. Su drama personal con la heroína y otras sustancias usadas por la misma dinámica de sus actividades musicales y por la dependencia que esto le produjo.
Es de acotar que muy a pesar de sus limitaciones, la ceguera no fue impedimento para enrredarlo con otra de sus obsesiones: Las mujeres, puesto que su posición musical le brindó la oportunidad de tener amoríos con coristas, cantantes y mujeres relacionadas con el área, y que en esta obra se puede ver comedia, dolor y tragedia, de estos líos de faldas que marcaron su vida y su trayectoria.
Además esta leyenda fue pionera de los logros y el respeto, que ganó para el gentilicio negro, tomando un espacio para que consideraran su música, más allá de los colores. Algo que en aquella época era un tema controversial y con el paso del tiempo, abrió camino para que los artistas de color de las décadas siguientes fueran reconocidos y valorados hasta el presente. La imagen de la película es muy buena, y queda uno asombrado por la calidad y efectos del sonido que nos meten en las pieles de este cantante. La había visto hace años y en esta quinta revisita, aún; uno se queda más impresionado del carácter humano en el que evolucionó este personaje a pesar de tantas limitaciones y barreras sociales.
