  1. Controversial? Road House (2024) || Movie Review.@esther-emmanuel818d

    IMG_20240401_160041.jpg

When I heard that the ’Road House (1989)’ was going to be remade, I was excited to see what they would do with it. I remember watching the 1989 version back then with so much excitement and it gave me an unforgettable experience that sometimes I still have flashbacks from the movie. Even though it was a B-class action film, the movie still entertained the targeted audience even when they didn't take the movie seriously. For me, I think it was one of Patrick Swayze's best works. It was a good solid action movie from the 80’s.

Now, the remake is out there but I think it was for the audience because the harsh and negative reviews were something else. I don't know what people expect from the remake, but I think they expected an action movie that is not decent and with a lot of unrealistic fighting scenes. I bet that would've hit right on the spot.

It's a pity that people have completely lost the ability to just sit back, shut their brain off and just enjoy a good old decent action movie. Not everything has to be the regular ”phew, phew, phew”. I am getting tired of that because of how unrealistic it is most of the time and it's exhausting. We need a little bit of Tango, Commando, Kick-boxer, Rambo, Predator and so on.

*’Road House (2024)’*is an action film that was directed by Doug Liman and screenplay written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. This movie is the remake of the 1989 movie of the same title. It was also distributed by Amazon MGM Studios. It starred Jake Gyllenhaal, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim de Almeida and Conor McGregor.

The plot of the movie is according to the 1989 original that revolves around a former UFC middleweight fighter Elwood Dalton who earns a living by fighting underground and scamming the fighters. Until one night, he was approached by a young woman, Frankie who begs him to come work for as a bouncer in her roadhouse which is in the Florida Keys community of Glass Key. Dalton wasn't interested at first but after his sucide attempt, he takes Frankie up on her job offer.

Dalton gets Glass Key town and befriends Charlie, a teenager who runs a bookstore with her father and later that day into the night, he officially starts his job as a bouncer. Dalton wards off a gang of bikers who were destroying the Roadhouse properties. It doesn't go in a civilized manner as Dalton ends up brutally injuring the men and driving them to the hospital to get treatment.

    IMG_20240401_162235.jpg

Dalton thought the problem had been sorted out, but what he didn't know was that the biker men were all goons for the notorious local crime boss Ben Brandt. Will Dalton survive the fall back? Or will he pack his bags and go away like the others before him?

    My Review And Rating.

This film is a movie that doesn't take itself seriously but obviously the audience took it seriously, hence all the harsh reviews. ’Road House (2024)’ is highly meant to entertain. The tone is mostly light-hearted but still there were some few moments of seriousness which was mostly demonstrated by the lead actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

The plot was well written with a simple tone and mood. The story was easy to follow as I was watching it. I got hooked right from the beginning, it has a good and engaging start. Then right from the start, it begins to spiral from intriguing to funny, light-hearted, electrifying then ends with a thrilling and satisfying energy. Though, there were a few potholes here and there, but it still wasn't obvious.

The cast was an amazing and entertaining one. I loved and enjoyed all their sense of humor. Jake Gyllenhaal was great with his role. He gave a phenomenal performance. He was a mixture of someone relaxed, chill, and carefree, but at the same time one could read from his eyes that he can be ruthless. Then we have Conor McGregor who is a very bad villain that is resilient and persistent. I enjoyed his role and his humor. He acted like some psycho bastard who doesn't have an off switch and he was a FORMIDABLE foe for Dalton.

    IMG_20240401_170642.jpg

Billy Magnussen acted his role well as the spoiled rich son of a local crime boss. He was exactly what he was meant to be and also he was funny. Then finally, Daniela Melchior who acted as the love interest for Dalton. For me, I wish they'd explored their part more since the movie itself was alright full of profanity, nudity, violence, and a little bit of blood. So that shouldn't have stopped them from exploring this part. She performed well except there was no chemistry between her and Jake.

    IMG_20240401_170954.jpg

The scene arrangements were fantastic, the action scenes were portrayed especially the fighting scenes. Then I realized that some punches were, I think close to being real because of how they focus on letting us see the hit. I don't know how they did that but I felt the impact. The cinematography was cool and ambient. All the humor didn't seem forced.

Rating this movie, I will give it a good 8 out 10 stars. It was a good movie, it was funny, not that serious, entertaining and finally it was thrilling. I had a good time when I saw this movie.

To be honest, I was actually emotionally down before I saw the movie. After I did, I couldn't remember why I was down in the first place. So set aside the negative reviews and go see this movie if you haven't.

  2. Road House (2024); Conor McGregor deserves his flowers.@kenechukwu97826d

Lovers of action movies just got the pleasure of watching a reimagination of Road House, a 1989 action movie, that was released 3 days ago. The original Movie which I never got to watch appears to have quite the reputation. I've heard a lot of good stuff about it, thanks to the hype around this 2024 reimagined version of the show.

To be fair, if a movie is going to get reimagined based on a Movie that's already 35 years old, that shows that the original isn't a joke. I wouldn't know about that since I've decided that I won't be digging up a 35-year-old movie. Haha. However, I watched the reimagined version.

    Let's get into that;

    Screenshot_20240324-154744.jpg

    Drama: Road House

    Genre: Action, Thriller.

    Runtime: 1h 54m

    Network: Amazon Prime

    Release Date: March 21.

The Movie is based on the story of Dalton (played by Jake Gyllenhaal), an ex-UFC fighter who had to quit combat sports after losing his cool and smashing his opponent to death in an official game in the UFC octagon. Years after the incident, he spends his nights fighting in fight clubs and making some bucks from that.

The story took an interesting turn when Dalton accepted an offer to work as a bouncer at a Roadhouse in Florida. The offer was juicy and he didn't have anything to lose. However, the incident that happened on his first night on the job made him realize that he was going to get into a series of brawls while on the job. He also wasn't going to run from any of the fights.

Dalton had no problem breaking up fights and getting into some with roughnecks who wanted to let all hell loose on the roadhouse. However, the plot thickened when he realized that there is a grand scheme behind the brutality that's being experienced in the roadhouse and its environs. He even considered calling it quits and leaving the town for good, but he got pushed too hard and decided to do what he does best when pushed too hard.

While the show gets the hype because of the original version and also because of Jake Gyllenhaal's track record in the movie industry, the main thing that got me excited about this show is the casting of Conor McGregor, a professional mixed martial artist, and boxer. The lad is an Irish guy and he's one of the biggest names in combat sports, all over the world.

For the record, I'm not a fan of Conor McGregor's professional career in combat sports. I remember feeling on top of the world when he got demolished in his MMA fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, the moment I saw he was cast in this movie, I got completely hooked on how he would perform in a Movie.

Long story short... Conor McGregor deserves his flowers for his performance in this movie. The man outdid himself and his onscreen presence is hilarious to the marrows. There was no dull moment for him at all.

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop or Comma. YouTube trailer is shared from YouTube. The thumbnail Image is taken from the gallery section of the movie on Rotten Tomatoes.

  3. Road House: An absurd movie that I still love@netflixr1881d

There are a lot of bad movies out there with massive plot holes, silly characters, dumb scenarios, really poor dialogue, and attributes given to people that simply aren't possible. Most of these films get tossed to the wayside, but one of them stands out in my mind and I actually did and do enjoy it to this day. I am referring to one of Swayze's highest grossing films after production and advertising costs. This film is Road House and I am not ashamed to say that I love it.

    [src](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/6b/13/f8/6b13f8c00fd1a79323e6a62576cea01b.jpg)

Back in the late 80's and early 90's, Patrick Swayze was one of the biggest stars in the world and no matter what he made, people went to the cinemas in droves in order to see it. It didn't really matter what the plot was and I don't think we really paid much attention to that - we also didn't have the internet back then so getting a true review wasn't really possible. If you ended up knowing anything about a film before you went to go see it, it was because you sought it out in a particular part of the newspaper.

    [src](http://the80sruled.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/best-of-roadhouse.jpg)

Swayze plays the role of James Dalton, who is a professional security specialist for bars and nightclubs and the profession, which I think is a term they completely made up, is a "cooler." He is hired to go to a town in the middle of nowhere in Missouri in order to tame the rather raucous crowd and sort out the staff at a very popular club called The Double Deuce. This is where the film starts out absurd. I don't know if you have ever been to the middle of nowhere in the Midwest or anywhere else, but there is no such thing as a really popular club in the middle of nowhere. Sure they might have an event there every now and then, but be routinely busy every day of the week? Give me a break.

I looked it up to confirm that there it is truly in the middle of nowhere and Jasper, Missouri has a population of less than 1000 people. There are no cities of consequence even near it. The idea that this place would be overrun with customers every night, violent or otherwise, is completely absurd.

msdroho_ec081.jpg src I can understand a place like this needing one bouncer, but a team of specialists, nah... sorry, I don't buy it

Then there is the case of one person who effectively runs the town and is a terrible person. We need a villain right? Well, we made one up. The bad guy in this case is above the law and is very rich for some reason. He also just happens to live right across the river from the barn that Swayze has been given to live in (and of course do his exercises while sweaty and shirtless.)

    [src](https://am21.mediaite.com/tms/cnt/uploads/2015/09/RiffTrax-_Road_House-_Patrick_Swayze.png)

One of my favorite silly lines of dialogue to ever appear in cinema happens in this film and it is when Swayze, after suffering a knife wound while breaking up a bar fight of absurd proportions that he meets the female doctor that is immediately identifiable and his future love interest.

While receiving staples through his side he forgoes (or is denied, I don't remember) any sort of anesthetic and is told by the attractive (and conveniently single) doctor that it is going to be painful... and this is when he utters this epic and timeless line.

    [src](https://d1w8c6s6gmwlek.cloudfront.net/kustom-tees-4-u.com/overlays/196/283/1962834.png)

I giggled a bit just thinking about the silliness of such a line and wonder what the guys were thinking that wrote the script. Did they know that this would become an iconic line for all of cinema history? I'd like to think the answer to that is yes but given the amount of other terrible dialogue that exists in this film, I would imagine it was just a beautiful accident.

    Should I watch it?

It probably seems that based on what I am saying above that I don't like this film but you couldn't be more wrong. This is one of those "so bad it's good" films and honestly, if it isn't near the top of the list of said films, it should be. There is a cookie-cutter plot-line that you can see coming from a mile away, and tons of over-the-top action including ripping someone's throat out in a fight, which I can't even imagine is possible.

I think you would be doing yourself a great disservice if you didn't go and see this wonderfully bad film. Hell, I might watch it again today even though I have seen it at least a dozen times.
