  1. Savages (Film): Review.@martinmcfly2750d

In 2010 Savages was published, a novel written by Don Winslow, and later, Oliver Stone, the same director of Wall Street, decided to make an adaptation of the story, which related the struggle for the control of a very lucrative drug business, a love triangle and a lot of violence.

    ---

Year: 2012 Category: Crime, Thriller. Director: Oliver Stone. Cast: Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, Benicio del Toro, Salma Hayek.

    Plot

The film shows the dispute over the lucrative marijuana market among young Americans, and a Mexican cartel that seeks to take control of it.

    Opinion

The story maintains a narration in off that start, maintains and closes a story, the film shows us an extensive flashback with the aim of making us understand the dimensions of the relationship maintained by the three protagonists. Two friends who share the same girlfriend and who grow cannabis plants in California, and who only need to buy Bitcoin to complete the dream of many here, everything is wonderful and easy until a Mexican sign is installed in the zone and begins to dispute the territory.

So this film tries to show us its particular version of what the world of drug trafficking means and its wild and excessive way of applying violence and proceeding, while trying to make us believe that what is shown on the screen is realistic.

Something good about the movie, is that time passes very quickly when we are watching it, because the director gets the protagonists to capture our interest with enough effectiveness to endow the script with life and make the film visible. Showing, at times, the impulsive attacks of physical, verbal and psychological violence that the different characters of the story have.

As for the performances, we can find a group of actors who do a great job and on which the weight of the whole film falls. Taylor Kitsh and Aaron Johnson are a perfect combination that manages to convey what the director and the story required, a young violent and other more reflective, the latter of the two gets, in turn, a real evolution throughout the story shown on screen, which is very well developed and acted, while Blake Lively gets enough sensitivity and sensuality for the viewer to believe the story and the relationship that the main characters have with each other. Benicio Del Toro has an excellent participation, getting to show the strength of his character. All this without mentioning the participation of Salma Hayek in a role that fits him like a glove, and John Travolta showing a great performance.

Well, to conclude, I must say that it is a violent film, which is consistent taking into account the characteristics of the story that is being narrated, yet the director does not try to be subtle about it but shows graphically the violence. Here no one hesitates to empty the cartridge, torture or anything else that crosses their heads in time of anger and absence of control.

The biggest flaw in the film, is what the director tries to do to close the story, in which, after reaching an excellent climax, proposes a very false ending, and that shows the weakness that the screenwriters had for develop the complexity that the story required, in addition, as always happens in the film of Stone, the director tries to print his particular ideological opinion in the reflection of the film, which can play against the work done, because if not done with subtilizes, we can see his hand insinuating things.

    6/10

It is not the best film of this director, however, it have enough ingredients to be a movie and an entertaining story.
