Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto – Anime Review (2025) [ENG/ESP]@yaslenysofia37d
ENGLISH
Greetings @theanimerealm community…
Today I'm here with an anime that has probably slipped under your radar, but it deserves your full attention. It's not your typical magic story, at least that's how it felt to me, especially with a rather shy protagonist who has her own unique charm, so you'll enjoy this story.
Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto
It premiered in July 2025, directed by Takaomi Kanasaki and Yasuo Iwamoto, animated by Studio Gokumi, and created by Matsuri Isora. This story full of adventure, fantasy, sword, and sorcery consisted of 13 episodes.
The story follows Monica Everett, an extremely shy young woman with severe social anxiety. So much so, in fact, that she developed a unique ability: casting spells in absolute silence and without reciting incantations, making her one of the Seven Sages, the most powerful magicians in the world. Although she longs for a quiet, secluded life in the countryside dedicated to her beloved mathematics, her peace is shattered when she is entrusted with a top-secret mission: to infiltrate a prestigious academy for nobles and protect the kingdom's second prince from the shadows, as he is the target of constant assassination threats.
Monica's real challenge begins when she steps through the school gates, as she must blend in as an ordinary student while navigating the strict rules of high society and her own uncontrollable nerves, leading to some hilarious moments. However, will she be able to confront her fears and past hurts, let new people into her life, and successfully complete her mission?
The first thing that attracted me to this story was its protagonist. Besides being funny, she struck me as unique because, even though she's already presented with extraordinary and powerful magic, her personality is quite realistic. Her phobia has a cause; it arises for a reason, and she explains that reason, thus validating her behavior. However, the story doesn't just show us this; it also demonstrates that being afraid or collapsing during social interactions doesn't make you weak. Rather, having the right support and the inner drive to overcome yourself, even in small steps, makes all the difference. She doesn't stop having anxiety overnight, but she learns to stand up for what matters to her despite her fear.
Now, another thing that might appeal to many is its animation. I found it beautiful, and visually, the studio manages to make Monica's "silent magic" feel powerful through lighting effects, air distortions, and the speed of the lines. The character design is clean and in keeping with each character's personality; the Serendia Academy uniforms have that elegant and aristocratic air that the story needs, and the action scenes (when the assassins attack) have excellent fluidity and pacing that contrast wonderfully with the everyday life of the school.
A deeply endearing protagonist: Monica is the film's greatest strength. She's a refreshing character who breaks the mold of the stereotypical protagonist, and her internal struggle with social anxiety feels genuine.
The ingenious magic system: The idea of "silent magic" based on rapid mathematical calculations is fantastic.
A gripping mystery: The contrast between school comedy and the tension of a political thriller works perfectly.
Slow-burn personal growth: The protagonist doesn't overcome her phobia overnight; rather, even with the lingering fear, she strives to do things right and help others, gradually gaining the support of those around her.
8.5/10 Story │ 10/10 Animation │ 8/10 Sound │ 10/10 Character Design │ 8.6/10 Overall
Silent Witch is a breath of fresh air in the fantasy genre; it knows exactly what it is: a captivating story with a well-constructed mystery and endearing character development. It's not the anime of the year, but it's certainly an anime that seeks to make you empathize with its protagonist.

Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto

Hello dear friends of @TheAnimeRealm, greetings and happy day! On this occasion, I'm here to talk to you about a story where magic and a knack for numbers are present, as well as the fact of overcoming yourself even though your abilities lack certain norms that others can do, but you are able to overcome them and prove that even in silence you can achieve wonderful things, especially if magic flows perfectly within you. It's about Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto.
This is Monica Everett, a young magician who, at just 15 years old, has managed to exceed the expectations of all magicians and join what is known as the 7 sages, which is like saying where the best magicians meet. She has achieved this at such a young age, But that's not the most remarkable thing about her. What makes Monica so special is her ability to perform magic without chanting spells, which other magicians must do. She does it without saying a word, and for others, this is extremely exceptional, which is why Monica has been called the Witch of Silence.
But not everything is so great for Monica, despite the fact that she has managed to overcome obstacles to perform magic at such a high level and join the ranks of the best. her type of magic, based on silence, is actually due to her shyness when it comes to speaking. As a result of the loss of her father and what happened after that, Monica finds it difficult to engage in conversation with such fluency, and for that reason she couldn't cast spells because of her silence, but she also found it better and easier to do things that way, but without being able to overcome her sadness and difficulty in approaching others.
Until one day, on the orders of her fellow members of the Seven Sages, she takes on a mission to protect the second prince, who is studying at an academy she must enter to protect him without him knowing. Monica will find it difficult not because protecting him is beyond her magical abilities, but because getting close to him and those around him will not be easy, although some, such as Cyril, a young aristocrat who, although initially somewhat rude to her, will gradually come to understand her way of being and be of great help to her, as will other friends such as Isabel, her cat Nero, among others who will support her in this mission and help her discover a little more about her past and seek to overcome what prevents her from opening up to others. The animation is very beautiful and has 13 episodes.

Hello, anime fans. We're back with more fantasy, but this time I bring you a gem from last summer's season that has been one of the most underrated, despite having a beautiful story to tell. It's one of those anime that are not at all what they seem at first, but still entertain you quite a bit as they break the typical mold of any fantasy story we all know. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Matsuri Isora and illustrated by Nanna Fujimi, Secrets of the Silent Witch is an animated adaptation produced by Studio Gokumi. Discover one of those anime series that you will definitely never forget.

The anime begins by showing us the great Kingdom of Ridill, which is being attacked by a large horde of pterodragoons led by the great Black Dragon of Worgan. While the daughter of a duke tries unsuccessfully to escape from the palace, in the distance we can see the silhouette of a hooded sorcerer who appears among the mountains to face this great army. Without reciting any incantations, this powerful wizard manages to defeat the entire horde of dragons in just a few seconds with a grandiose spell that illuminates the entire sky with spears of light and magic circles. The girl recognizes the sorcerer who has just saved their lives. His name is Monica Everett, also known as the Silent Witch.

Trailer & Review
Next, I'll leave you with the trailer for the anime:
Among the many generic fantasy anime series that aired last summer, there was only one that particularly caught my attention because it was so different from the rest. Yes, I'm talking about Secrets of the Silent Witch, the anime this post is about. Although its premise didn't stand out as much as its first episode did, both its story and its characters completely captured my attention. Unlike most fantasy anime series that air every quarter, this underrated gem has a story that strays from the typical "hero's journey" storyline.
This alone was reason enough for me to decide to watch it until the end, but then I found more elements and reasons to make this anime one of my favorites in the fantasy genre. It's normal to come to this conclusion knowing that it has a very well-done mix of different genres such as comedy, mystery, and drama, apart from fantasy, of course. But I think the main credit goes to the protagonist, thanks to her unique and unusual personality, as well as her well-developed character and some unforgettable moments in this anime. We mustn't forget the story either, which I think deserves its own credit.

The story revolves around the life of Monica Everett, our protagonist, who is a great genius despite being only 16 years old. She is also one of the "Seven Sages", who are the most powerful wizards in this world. With her title of "Silent Witch", very little is known about her and her life because she spends her time locked away in a cabin isolated from the city. Yes, she is a shy girl with serious communication problems. Her problem is so severe that she invented magic without spells (which earned her that title). However, despite the occasional good deed, Monica has not contributed much to the Kingdom of Ridill since her appointment.
That is why one of her superiors, another Sage named Louis Miller, entrusts her with a special mission of great importance. This mission involves getting close to Prince Felix and protecting him from various assassination attempts that have been taking place at the illustrious Serendia Academy. To do this, Monica will have to enroll as a student in order to fulfill her mission. Obliged, she takes on the job despite doing so against her will, as going back to school is the last thing she wants to do right now. This is how we will see a fantastic story with seemingly ordinary characters in a magical world where anything can happen.

The only difference between this story and many others is its humorous tone, which comes along with the peculiar personality of the protagonist. This is mostly evident when we see our little Monica Everett facing various situations since her admission to Serendia Academy. These seemingly ordinary situations end up leading to something bigger as our protagonist becomes more and more involved. Her difficulty communicating, her enormous nerves, and her extremely low self-esteem will cause her to experience moments that are both embarrassing and entertaining to watch. Personally, I really like this type of humor in an anime.
Mainly because this humor does not rely on fanservice, double entendres, or anything like that. This anime is free of these details, which, unfortunately, are abundant in many other fantasy anime. Another thing I like about this anime is how our protagonist solves each of the problems or situations she has to face at this academy while protecting the prince. I mention this because both her particular personality and her tastes and way of doing things lead us to see unexpected twists and shocking moments. One of the good things about Secrets of the Silent Witch is that it has almost no typical clichés.
Well, apart from the fact that the protagonist is one of the most powerful witches in this fantasy world, it's very typical of any anime of this style. But even so, the fact that the entire anime is based more on academic life, where it is forbidden to draw attention for various reasons (starting with her mission to protect the prince), means that we see our prodigious protagonist solving problems in a different way than the generic protagonists of any other anime usually do. And speaking of generic things, this anime doesn't have many action scenes, to say the least.
This may put you off and make you think twice about watching this anime, and I completely understand that. Nowadays, it's common for western audiences to expect all anime they consider good to have non-stop action and battles, as if all genres and works were the same. But this kind of backward mentality doesn't apply here; here, any type of work is valued as long as it's well done. In the case of Secrets of the Silent Witch, it's perfect for you if you're looking for a unique story about a teenage witch with communication issues who faces unusual problems at a prestigious academy.
Apart from all this, the anime also has good characters and very notable development, as I mentioned before. To give an example, let's take the case of our protagonist, Monica Everett, who, in fulfilling her mission at the academy, has to face her anxiety and communication problems on a daily basis as she has to interact with all kinds of classmates and unusual people. Throughout the episodes, we can see the reasons why she is so insecure and shy despite being a prodigy of magic and someone revered by many young people. The same is true of other characters we meet later on.
Although they are only the main characters, the characters in this anime are very well developed, and I'm not just saying that because of everything we get to see and learn about each of them throughout the episodes. It's also because of the natural way in which we become familiar with each of them. Let's remember that what we see are ordinary students living their academic lives in an ordinary way, only with magic and unusual situations thrown in. Apart from this, we can also notice the typical class distinctions and treatment that each one receives, as well as how some of the problems our protagonist faces are related to political and social issues in this world.
While it doesn't have all the action that many would expect from a typical fantasy anime, I believe that the story it has to tell is even more valuable than that of any generic work today. It has a good pace, as well as humor that can be enjoyed by all audiences. It also has its moments of action, but they are few and far between, although that doesn't detract from how impactful they are overall. It even has its dramatic moments where we can see the background of certain situations that our protagonist experiences in this academy and how this reminds her of her sad past. I would say that it even has romance, but this is not seen until the end.
Last but not least, let's talk about the audiovisual aspect of Secrets of the Silent Witch. Despite not being very well known, the studio in charge of this adaptation did a great job with this anime. To begin with, the animation is excellent. It's not the best out there, but it easily stands out from most. The character designs, the vivid color palette, the effects, and the visual details are the most noteworthy aspects, especially in scenes involving magic or action. As for the sound effects, they are well done, but they are nothing compared to the soundtrack of this anime. In short, if you are looking for something different from the typical fantasy work, then you have to watch this anime.
Personally, I give it a 9/10 rating in terms of the fantasy and comedy genre.
Finally, I will leave you with the anime's opening theme below:
›Anime Review: Secret of the Silent Witch@seunruth337d
The title got me curious 🧐, I loved mystery, adventure, horror, fantasy in fact I love everything. But to be sincere when I first came across this title I immediately found it interesting, I didn't need anyone to tell me it's going to be interesting. I was curious to know what Juicy secret the witch held, was a a magic portion secret I couldn't tell till I decided to find out.
Monica Everett, known as the “Silent Witch,” cast magic without chanting, not through arrogance, but through crippling social anxiety. As someone who connects deeply with quiet, introspective characters, I was intrigued. Then I saw the early feedback calling it “a surprise hit of Summer 2025” and the glowing 4.9/5 rating on Crunchyroll—I’d found my next must‑watch fantasy destiny.
Monica Everett is a young mage - a genius who once at the age of fifteen years became one of the Seven Sages due to her mastering an unknown skill to cast spells without uttering them, which saved her fear in public speaking. All this changes when Sage Louis Miller enlists her in a mysterious mission to work undercover at Serendia Academy to keep the Prince Felix under protection without ever exposing her identity. That choice starts an adventure of comedic awkwardness, magical combat, and emotional growth.
The fact that the title Silent Witch is not only about her magical talent but also her inner silence and the whole identity of Monica is formed around her unwillingness to speak, to hide in the corner. But the destiny makes her take a step into crowded corridors, school dances and even rough threats. The fact that she is powerful and yet shy is the pulse of the series.
Studio Gokumi has provided spectacular graphics- lush mountains to candle-lit school corridors filled with enchantment. Movement is fluid and heavy; each movement not accompanied by incant comes with a purpose. Both viewers and critics were amazed by its production value, which was considered a surprise among Summer 2025 releases.
The atmosphere is quiet fantasy, warm humor. Monica has anxieties such as stuttering, fear of crowds, hyperventilating, and they might sound melodramatic but the show is gentle to them. She is not a joke. She's relatable. Reddit enthusiasts concluded: “The fact that her social anxiety is tied to a super rare skill is a clever way to go about it, and they did it well, IMO.”
The critics observe that the series balances emotion and magic very lightly and profoundly. The sound creates a gentle melancholic tone, the sound design manipulates silence into an existing creature that echoes the solitude Monica finds herself in.
The character design of Monica is deceiving: the girl is timid, bookish, terror-stricken. She is not a damsel, though. As the episodes go by she matures, first into secretiveness in a mountain cottage and then into the subtext, bodyguard work, and suspicions among peers. She develops in a rather unobtrusive way. Social awkwardness is one thing, but fans loved her development, saying that she is not only socially awkward-but a complex character.
The emotional warmth is manifested in the episodes that concentrate on the relationships, particularly with her cat-familiar Nero and other students, such as Isabelle and Lana. The tender invitation provided by Isabelle allows Monica to leave the isolation not by force but by kindness which is a fantastic twist in the storytelling that has been examined by The Silverfrost Wolf
Although highly acclaimed, the pacing was too slow to some viewers. The initial episode takes the safer route of exposition, with Monica being unsure and uncomfortable at the beginning of the first episode taking up the pace of the story. Anime Feminist noted the premiere to be charming, but indicated that we needed more storytelling by visual means rather than excessive dialogue dumps.
Others said that Monica was a bore at the beginning, too shy, too careful as compared to the usual fantasy anime. That was frequently moderated later on, however, when her nervousness started being underlaid by emotional intricacy.
Two sequences have stuck with me, one the flashback when Monica slays the dragon with her magic which, in this case, has no chant but bursts in silent strength; the other the first day of school at the academy where a class of would-be wizards are all social misfits and are all expected to fulfill their destiny as wizards. These two scenes contradict each other and reflect the central conflict of her character: she is invincible alone and weak in social places.
I was gasping as Monica is forced to attend a party along with her nervousness oozing in each scene. She then learns to trust other people, even in a small percentage. I wanted to applaud a little at that arc, not because she had succeeded despite her fear but because she had not given over in the face of it.
To me, Silent Witch was not a magic show, but it was a mirror. Being a person who tends to seek the least attention possible, the internal conflict of Monica was close to home. Seeing her put up defenses so she would not need to talk was like those tiny shields we put up in our daily lives.
Her tale accessed the goodness of gradual courage. She does not change into something the next day. She does not turn out to be an extrovert. Rather--by friendliness, accidents, faith--she learns little types of courage. It is that subtle change that made this show emotionally gripping.
Secrets of the Silent Witch is a low-key magical, emotionally touching, and quite potent novel. It runs at a steady tempo and can appear modest at the very beginning, but it is slowly gaining momentum to become something special: a fantasy where fear and genius are not incompatible, where spells do not require noises to be effective. At 4.9/5 on Crunchyroll, critics are calling it one of the best of Summer 2025, along with titans such as Kaiju No. 8 Season 2.
Even its initial reviews referred to it as the most impressive premiere of the season, and my experience proves it to be true: a heroine who does not have to say a word in order to make a point
