Samuel L. Jackson is a force to reckon with in the movie industry and when it comes to his movies, I really can't seem to pick a favorite as I love them all.
When I saw this prompt, I thought of which to pick and the first movie that came to mind is titled SHAFT
I have seen this movie countless times and It always feels like I am seeing it for the first time.
In this movie, Samuel L. Jackson (John Shaft) is a private investigator who uses ruthless methods to get answers as he considers that to be "quick and effective" which earned him respect as he is feared by many.
After a shootout that almost endangered the life of his wife, Maya(Regina Hall), and son, John Junior Shaft (JJ) played by Jessie T. Usher, his wife decided she had to take his son away from him for their safety.
He was not happy to see them go but he maintained a long-distance relationship with his son for 25 years sending him "ridiculous gifts" on his birthdays.
His son JJ, grew up only hearing about his father from the "gifts" he sends him on his birthdays without actually seeing nor spending time with him. He works as a data analyst for the FBI and is not always treated fairly as his opinions are not usually considered.
When his best friend Karim Hassan played by Avan Jogia was found dead due to a drug overdose, he sought to find answers which led him to him being beaten up by some gangsters and he was treated by his other friend Sasha( Alexandra Shipp)whom he has a huge crush on.
He showed Sasha Karim's death report and she knew that he was murdered and his death was ruled as an overdose to cover it up, and that made JJ decide to find answers at all cost.
He knew he had to find the real suspects involved in the death of his friend and that made him seek after his father as he believed only he could get the answers he needed.
What did I love about the movie?
First off, I loved that the reunion between John Shaft and his son as it helped made a positive impact in their lives. He taught his son how to toughen up and act like a man seeing as his son was too soft
Despite being on different levels in terms of almost everything, both father and son enjoyed spending time together which further helped strengthen their bond.
They argue mostly on John Shaft's method of requiring information from suspects as his son termed as human rights violation
Their findings led them to seek the help of John Shaft's Dad and Jnr's grandad (played by Richard Roundtree) as he also joined in to help them uncover the secrets surrounding Karim's death, the military, and many more.
Why I chose the movie?
I chose this movie for several reasons, for starters, all the actors and actresses did an amazing performance in making it an exciting movie.
I also love Samuel L. Jackson's role in the movie as he was more of a good/bad guy and his presence in his son's life helped JJ become more confident as he confessed his love to Sasha and also put his boss, Agent Vietti played by Titus Welliver (who always belittle him at work) in his place.
If you are yet to see this movie, you are missing out, try watching and I bet you will also enjoy it.
