   Reboot Of A Classic Shonen

   Japan has perhaps in last 5-6 years kinda cashed into nostalgia mode by rebooting lot of old Anime from different time periods whatever its Tiger Mask, GeGeGe No Kitaro, Fruit basket or upcoming Urusei No Yatsura. If we look at our Burger Counterparts on America who tend to subvert and gender/race swap characters from original movies - Japanese approach is rather just giving a more modern HD experience to an old series.

   Sure GeGeGe No Kitaro changes the setting in more modern world with cellphones compared to the original one, but i would argue lot of other elements have stayed more or less same. In most of cases like this new Shaman King - we're having a more faithful adaption of manga than original 2001 one.

   

   Now visually there is more modern and perhaps what i would call "glossy/glowwy" approach to character looks in this reboot. Both styles as seen above are something i enjoy, perhaps peak Anime style always been that 80-90's OVA quality, but we don't really see that anymore.

   So yeah...the new version is looking more modern and is more faithful to the manga. Now the issue fundamentally here is that you only have 52 episodes to basically tell a story that easily over 70 episode story, which created massive pacing issues especially towards final arc - which pretty much ruined it.

   Now overall it was decent reboot, but in some ways perhaps the original had a better ending to a degree and did some things better, but in some aspects also quite horrible with some plot twists.

   Hello to all the community of The Anime Realm, despite having already several days without uploading content here but the time has finally come because after finishing the new adaptation of Shaman King I have come to talk from the point of view of a fan but also from the objective point of view of a fan of anime in general and is that although for me it was an incredible surprise to know about the new adaptation and I was very happy when it started because this work left me with one or another bad taste in my mouth, So I want to take this opportunity to tell you the things that I thought were great and the things I didn't like about this new Shaman King anime.

   We'll start as always with the good points of this work:

   This new adaptation fulfilled the premise of faithfully adapting the manga and I must say that at this point they fulfilled in its entirety this premise, the anime not only adapted the manga but in many aspects animated pages of the manga without any modification and is that Shaman King is not a work that stands out for its fights but for its characters, the development of these, The reasons why they want to be the Shaman King, this is something that took the best part of the adaptation since we could see the true motivations and reasons for being of characters like Chocolove, Hao and his followers, the true feelings of Yoh and even we were lucky to finally see the Osorezan Revoir which is for me one of the most important arcs of the whole anime. It also showed us the adult version of our protagonists, what happened to them after the shaman fight and the version of the 5 elemental warriors along with their respective accompanying spirits.

   We also had in this new adaptation a better animation than in the previous version and that for our fortune was chosen to animate according to the illustrations of the Kang Zeng Bang version therefore we had a much higher quality of drawing than in the old version being even similar to the type of drawing of Hiroyuki Takei in Shaman King The Super Star, besides having a more colorful setting (which resembles the one currently used in the Shonen).

   Another cool part was the announcement of the continuation of the work and that for many fans (including me obviously haha) and that Shaman King Flowers/The Super Star has brought us a pretty interesting story with the son of Yoh and Anna, Hana Asakura, very surely in a next post I will talk about this work.

   Now we will move on to the bad points of the work

   Something that particularly seemed bad to me was that despite having a moving animation, the quality of this was not as good, we had an excellent static drawing or in scenes with little movement but in moments like the longer or more complex fights we could see a pretty strong drop in the quality of it (not at a level of Nanatsu no taizai but quite deteriorated compared to what was shown in the trailer and in the first episodes), Also we had moments in which we had still images for a long time and that made the quality of the animation worse because it became more static.

   Another point against is that even though everything was adapted, it was done in a very fast way and even though Shaman King is not the typical fighting anime, we had important fights being too cut, especially in the last arc with the fights of the Plants, which did not even last a chapter, even though we had the right development of the characters, it lacked a real development of the battles to have been a more enjoyable anime for those who had not seen the previous work or the manga.

   Something that I personally (and I say this very personally) did not like was the choice of the openings, I feel that these did not transmit the essence of the work as the old version did, even though the soundtrack was very successful, for me if a work does not have a good opening it will lose points in my personal rating.

   In conclusion Shaman King was a work that for many manga lovers brought us a faithful adaptation to the work but unfortunately did not meet the expectations they had, in my case I did not ask for an animation at the level of Kimetsu no Yaiba or Shingeki no Kyojin but I hoped that this new version achieved what Brotherhood or the new version of HxH achieved for their works and that these great new adaptations not only managed to please the old fans but also add new fans to them, I hope that with Shaman King The Super Star they achieve at least a better animation and correct these mistakes that they had with the work, without anything else to add I say goodbye and I hope you are great.

   Hola a toda la comunidad de The Anime Realm, a pesar de tener ya varios días si subir contenido por aquí pero ha llegado el momento por fin ya que luego de finalizar la nueva adaptación de Shaman King he venido para hablarles desde el punto de vista de un fan pero también desde el punto de vista objetivo de un fanático del anime en general y es que a pesar de que para mi fue una increíble sorpresa saber de la nueva adaptación y de alegrarme mucho cuando empezó pues esta obra me dejo con uno que otro mal sabor de boca, así que quiero aprovechar para comentarles las cosas que me parecieron geniales y las que no me gustaron de este nuevo anime de Shaman King.

   Empezaremos como siempre con los puntos buenos de esta obra:

   Esta nueva adaptación cumplió con la premisa de adaptar fielmente el manga y debo decir que en este punto cumplieron en su totalidad esta premisa, el anime no solo adapto el manga sino que en muchos aspectos animo paginas del manga sin ninguna modificación alguna y es que Shaman King no es una obra que resalte por sus peleas sino por sus personajes, el desarrollo de estos, las razones por las que quieren ser el Rey de los Shamanes, esto es algo que se llevo la mejor parte de la adaptacion ya que pudimos ver las verdaderas motivaciones y razones de ser de personajes como Chocolove, Hao y sus seguidores, los verdaderos sentimientos de Yoh e inclusive tuvimos la suerte de por fin ver el Osorezan Revoir que es para mi uno de los arcos mas importantes de todo el anime. Ademas también nos mostró a la versión adulta de nuestros protagonistas, lo que ocurrió con ellos después de la pelea de shamanes y a la versión de los 5 guerreros elementales junto con sus respectivos espíritus acompañantes.

   Tuvimos también en esta nueva adaptación una mejor animación que en la versión anterior y que para nuestra fortuna se eligió animar según las ilustraciones de la versión Kang Zeng Bang por lo tanto tuvimos una calidad de dibujo muchísimo mayor que en la versión antigua siendo inclusive parecida al tipo de dibujo de Hiroyuki Takei en Shaman King The Super Star, ademas tener una ambientación mas colorida (que se parece a la que se utiliza actualmente en los Shonen).

   Otra parte genial fue el anuncio de la continuación de la obra y que para muchos fans (incluyendome obviamente jaja) y que Shaman King Flowers/The Super Star nos ha traído una historia bastante interesante con el hijo de Yoh y Anna, Hana Asakura, muy seguramente en un próximo post hable de esta obra

   Ahora pasaremos a los puntos malos de la obra

   Algo que particularmente me pareció malo fue que a pesar de contar con una animación mueva, la calidad de esta no fue como tan buena, teníamos un excelente dibujo estático o en escenas con poco movimiento pero en momentos como las peleas mas largas o mas complejas podíamos ver un bajón bastante fuerte de la calidad de la misma (no a un nivel de Nanatsu no taizai pero si bastante desmejorada en comparación a lo que nos mostró en el trailer y en los primeros episodios), ademas teníamos momentos en lo que teníamos imágenes fijas por una gran cantidad de tiempo y eso hacia toda peor la calidad de la animación ya que se volvía mas estática la misma.

   Otro punto en contra es que a pesar de que se adapto todo, se hizo de manera muy rápida y a pesar de que Shaman King no es el típico anime de pelea, tuvimos peleas importantes siendo demasiado cortadas, sobre todo en el ultimo arco con las peleas de las Plantas, las cuales no llegaban a durar ni siquiera un capitulo, a pesar de que tuvimos el desarrollo justo de los personajes, falto un verdadero desarrollo de las batallas para poder haber sido un anime mas disfrutable para aquellos que no habían visto la obra anterior o el manga.

   Algo que personalmente (y lo digo muy personalmente) no me gusto fue la elección de los openings, siento que estos nos transmitían la esencia de la obra como lo hicieron los de la versión antigua a pesar de que el soundtrack del mismo si fue muy acertado, para mi si una obra no cuenta con un buen opening perderá puntos en mi calificación personal.

   En conclusión Shaman King fue una obra que para muchos amantes del manga nos trajo una adaptación fiel a la obra pero que lamentablemente no cumplió con las expectativas que se tenían, en mi caso no pedía una animación al nivel de Kimetsu no Yaiba o Shingeki no Kyojin pero esperaba que esta nueva versión lograra lo que Brotherhood o la nueva versión de HxH lograron para sus obras y que esas geniales nuevas adaptaciones no solo lograron complacer a los fans antiguos sino también sumar nuevos fanáticos a las mismas, espero que con Shaman King The Super Star se logre al menos una mejor animación y se corrijan estos errores que se tuvieron con la obra, sin nada mas que agregar me despido y espero se encuentren genial.

   Hello to all the community of this is my first post in the community since a good friend recommended it to me to speak of animes and mangas and because today I want to dedicate my first post to one of my favorite mangas and that has had one of the most unfair adaptations to the anime but that this year surprised us with the announcement of a new adaptation for 2021, we will speak of Shaman King.

   Shaman King was a manga that came out in 1998 in the Shonen Jump but was canceled in 2004, in 2008 was resumed its publication and re-launched the first chapters in the edition Kang Zeng Bang (which also had an improvement in the drawings) and ended in 2009 having 300 chapters of duration this work created by Hiroyuki Takai, also had an adaptation to the anime in 2000 which had 64 episodes but not having the manga a final already created took an original ending and much of the story not canon for the anime (the same as happened in his time with Full Metal Alchemist).

   This manga tells us (without making spoilers) of the journey of the protagonist Yoh Asakura to become the king of shamans having from the first chapter the support of his friend Manta Oyamada, It is explained to us that the shamans are the link of this world with the other and that they can use the spirits to possess them and it is that Yoh's dream is to fight in the battle of shamans and to be able to become the Shaman King therefore he is in search of a strong spirit to make him his partner and to be able to achieve this dream.

   One of the factors that have made this manga so beloved by fans is the personality of its protagonists and is that the charisma and way of being of Yoh and his way of seeing life shows us that you do not need a main character that is the most powerful in his universe to have a masterpiece, Besides Yoh's relationship with his friends, with Amidamaru (his spirit companion) and with Anna (his fiancée) he brings us both moments of laughter and moments of tension and action. Moreover, the development and growth that all the characters have is something worthy of a Seinen and not a Shonen.

   The adaptation to the anime by not having the development of the manga varied too much to very important characters for the story or the background stories of very important characters (one of the most marked cases is that of Chocolove Mcdonal and even Hao Asakura himself) and also censured some of the most brutal fights of the manga, in addition to that its end was very far from the one taken in the manga, I recommend you that if you like the anime, give the manga a chance because it is at a completely different level in terms of character development, fights and other moments that were responsible for making this manga one of my favorites but to the surprise of all fans of this great manga in June this year announced a new adaptation to the manga faithful to April 2021.

   And what can we expect with this new adaptation of the manga? We will have a story totally attached to the manga (thanks to the Shaman King for that) having as a small spoiler and surprise for the manga fans the Yoh's Byakko (his most powerful Over Soul) and it is that for our joy we will also have the Seiyu of Yoh's first anime, Amidamaru, Anna and Hao still have some to be confirmed but it is expected to bring much of the original cast, hopefully for the dubbed versions also achieve this reunion of original dubbers in addition to a huge improvement to the graphics of this anime (and it really looks great in the teaser trailer).

   To finish I just want to say that if you were a fan of the 2000 anime give the manga a chance and I guarantee that this manga is one of the best I've read (I've read it twice really haha) and the hype I have for the new animation is unprecedented, I hope it is very well carried and that you give a chance to the manga and this next new anime.

   Hola a toda la comunidad de The Anime Realm este es mi primer post en la comunidad ya que un buen amigo me la recomendó para hablar de animes y mangas y pues hoy quiero dedicarle mi primer post a uno de mis mangas preferidos y que ha tenido una de las mas injustas adaptaciones al anime pero que este año nos sorprendió con el anuncio de una nueva adaptación para el 2021, hablaremos de Shaman King.

   Shaman King fue un manga que salió en en 1998 en la Shonen Jump pero fue cancelada en el 2004, en el 2008 fue retomada su publicación y se re lanzaron los primeros capítulos en la edición Kang Zeng Bang (la cual también tuvo una mejora en los dibujos) y finalizo en el 2009 teniendo 300 capítulos de duración esta obra creada por Hiroyuki Takai, además tuvo una adaptación al anime en el 2000 la cual tuvo 64 episodios pero al no tener el manga un final ya creado se tomó un final original y una gran parte de la historia no canon para el anime (lo mismo que paso en su época con Full Metal Alchemist).

   Este manga nos cuenta (sin hacer spoilers) de la travesía del protagonista Yoh Asakura para volverse el rey de lo shamanes teniendo desde el primer capítulo el apoyo de su amigo Manta Oyamada, se nos explica que los shamanes son el vinculo de este mundo con el otro y que ellos pueden utilizar a los espirutus para posesionarse en ellos y es que el sueño de Yoh es pelear en la batalla de shamanes y poder convertirse en el Shaman King por lo tanto él está en la búsqueda de un espíritu fuerte para hacerlo su compañero y poder lograr este sueño.

   Uno de los factores que ha hecho este manga tan querido por los fans es la personalidad de sus protagonistas y es que el carisma y forma de ser de Yoh y su forma de ver la vida nos demuestra que no se necesita un personaje principal que sea el mas poderoso de su universo para tener una obra maestra, además de la relación de Yoh con sus amigos, con Amidamaru (su espíritu acompañante) y con Anna (su prometida) nos trae tanto momentos de risas como de tensión y acción además que el desarrollo y crecimiento que tienen todos los personajes es algo digno de un Seinen y no de un Shonen.

   La adaptación al anime al no tener el desarrollo del manga vario demasiado a personajes muy importantes para la historia o las historias de fondo de personajes muy importantes (uno de los casos más marcado es el de Chocolove Mcdonal e inclusive del mismo Hao Asakura) y también censuro algunas de las peleas mas brutales del manga, además de que su final estuvo muy alejado del que se tomó en el manga, les recomiendo que si les gusto el anime le del una oportunidad al manga ya que este esta a un nivel completamente diferente en cuanto a desarrollo de personajes, peleas y demás momentos que se encargaron de hacer este manga uno de mis favoritos pero para la sorpresa de todos los fanáticos de este gran manga en junio de este año se anunció una nueva adaptación fiel al manga para abril del 2021.

   Y ¿qué podemos esperar con esta nueva adaptación del manga? Tendremos una historia totalmente apegada al manga (gracias al Shaman King por eso) teniendo como pequeño spoiler y sorpresa para los fanáticos del manga al Byakko de Yoh (su Over Soul más poderoso) y es que para nuestra alegría también tendremos a los Seiyu del primer anime de Yoh, Amidamaru, Anna y Hao aun falta algunos por confirmar pero se espera lograr traer a gran parte del elenco original, esperemos que para las versiones dobladas también se logre este reencuentro de dobladores originales además de una grandísima mejora a las gráficas de este anime (y es que en serio se ve genial en el teaser trailer).

   Para terminar solo quiero decirles que si fueron fanáticos del anime del 2000 le den una oportunidad al manga y que les garantizo que este manga es uno de los mejores que he leido (lo he leído dos veces realmente jaja) y el hype que tengo por la nueva animación no tiene precedentes, espero que sea muy bien llevada y que ustedes le den una oportunidad al manga y a este próximo nuevo anime.

   The 20th anniversary website for Hiroyuki Takei's Shaman King manga opened on New Year's Day and announced that the manga's new arc will begin serializing in Kodansha's Shonen Magazine Edge this spring. The website and the magazine itself will provide more details in the future. Viz published the manga in English in the past, and it describes how the story began:

   When he takes a shortcut through a cemetery, Manta Oyamada meets a strange kid with headphones — surrounded by ghosts. The kid is the teenage shaman Yoh Asakura. Tapping the supernatural swordfighting powers of samurai ghost Admidamaru, Yoh fights Bokuto no Ryu, a sword-wielding gang member. But an even more dangerous opponent is stalking Yoh and Manta — a Chinese shaman who wants to possess Amidamaru. Shaman King began in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1998. It abruptly ended in 2004, though a reprinting of the manga revealed a "true ending" in 2009. Takei drew a series of short stories titled Shaman King 0 in Shueisha's Jump X starting in November 2011, and published a sequel series titled Shaman King Flowers in the same magazine from 2012 to 2014. Takei has also worked on the Ultimo and Jumbor manga. He began Nekogahara, his first manga with Kodansha, in the then-new Shonen Magazine Edge in September 2015. The manga is ongoing.

   Japanese publisher Kodansha is now listed as the trademark owner for "Shaman King" in Japan, Europe, and the United States. Hiroyuki Takei's Shaman King manga was previously published by Shueisha.
