    The Characters I Liked:

    Shazam:

We will meet Shazam, a superhero who possesses abilities of other mythological characters, being his name an acronym of the first letter of each one.

Being a powerful magician, this power passes from person to person if you are pure of heart and this is the last survivor of his brothers, since in the past they were betrayed many centuries ago.

    Billy Batson:

    Billy Batson:

We meet Billy Batson, a boy who was lost in an amusement park by accident as a child, having as a consequence to live in foster homes until he turns 18 years old.

But was it really an accident?

Since he was a little boy, he always had a feeling against him because he felt guilty for getting lost, being this the reason why our friend is constantly running away from all the foster homes and the house where he has been adopted, since he is always looking for his mother.

    Dr. Thaddeus Sivana:

    Dr. Thaddeus Sivana:

We know a little boy named Thaddeus, in which he is denigrated by his father and brother for not being like them, getting to suffer ridicule and abuse by them, to going on a trip to visit his grandfather. This child realizes that everything is paralyzed, that his father and brother disappeared, and that this magically appears in a somewhat peculiar place that would change his whole life.

Upon entering this place, he finds an ancient magician and several terrifying statues, when he is in front of this magician, he is tested to see if he is pure of heart, and he fails, since he has a lot of hatred and resentment thanks to what he has lived despite his age, being rejected by the magician and consequently leading him to commit one of the worst mistakes of his life.

    Freddy Freeman:

    Freddy Freeman:

Freddy Freeman, an orphan of parents like our friend Billy Batson, this boy to have a defect in the leg, is mocked and mistreated by the school, being a child who has no friends for being rejected.

He is a cheerful person and obsessed with all superheroes, even has a bullet with certificate that Superman stopped with his body and a weapon of Batman, but what he does not know is that his life would change completely to meet and live with our friend Billy, as his greatest obsession and tastes may come true.

The way to be a Superhero:

Not knowing anything about his powers and how to apply them, he will have to learn it on his own along with his best friend, see how they experiment to know all the powers he has is the best of the movie, the adventures they live are good.

But not everything is good, he will be forced to mature as a hero and as a person, as he will meet a person obsessed with power, endangering his entire family and the entire city.

Who is the enemy he will have to face?

Did our beloved Billy Batson really get lost or was he abandoned?

What will he have to do to solve these problems that will confront him?

You will find out as you watch the story of this movie.

    Conclusion

I liked the movie, the way it tells the story is good, they take their time to explain things and the details that happen in it, they have good special effects and the soundtrack is good.

The acting of each of the actors is good, each one brings their personality to each role they were given. My favorite actors are Billy Batson, Freddy Freeman, Shazam, and his brothers.

I really liked the chemistry that Billy and Freddy have, they are two young men that you can tell they had fun filming every scene together, it's as if they were really brothers, since they are accomplices in almost everything they do.

Freddy and Shazam's chemistry for me is the best, because despite their age difference, they do very well together, and it shows a lot when they are experimenting with Shazam's powers when they escape from school every day.

Watching these two crazies get themselves shot for real to test Shazam's powers leaves you wide-eyed at how far they are willing to go, being kids, they don't yet understand that things can have bad consequences for their lives.

I loved Shazam, he reminds me a lot of Dead pool, but without the mask, the actor did very well, to see him acting as a kid being an adult was very good, even though they are the same character they are not the same actors, the direction they had with these two was very good.

The references to the DC heroes and the jokes that Shazam and the others make are good.

Seeing how Billy in Shazam's body tries to do Adult things and bring that innocence along with these things is good, like when they buy beers and he tries to get into a certain adult only place, it was funny to see all of that.

Seeing him as life makes him forcibly mature at his age really, you get attached to him.

Hopefully we'll see more movies with these actors playing their roles in the upcoming Shazam! movies.

I liked the special effects of the sins and seeing them fight and how they are each other was very good, I liked how they directed these things in the movie.

Will a certain famous character appear in this movie?

The audience to which you can see this movie is for over 13 years old, it is good to see it with the family and enjoy it.

  2. Shazam on Netflix: Was this necessary?@netflixr1875d

First off, I should pre-empt my upcoming diatribe by saying that I am totally sick of superhero films and really feel as though the industry is aiming for the lowest common denominator by making almost every new film some sort of superhero film. I understand why they are doing it since it is almost a guaranteed profit when you consider the international markets but all of these films lack any sort of substance.

It was fun and inventive 10 years ago when they first developed the technology to pull something like this off but now they are truly milking this cow for all it is worth and Shazam is a prime example of this.

[src](https://movieposters2.com/images/1641221-b.jpg) Image chosen because I have no idea what language that is.... do you?

If you look at the two biggest movie review sites in the world that are IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes you will find that this film has positive review scores from both critics and viewers alike and I have to say that I am starting to suspect that I have nothing in common with the average film buff.

I'm not trying to get all artsy or anything and films that get to artsty-fartsy are not my thing either. However, this film and nearly every single other superhero film is predictable to the point of vegetation. In any superhero film the ending can be determined right from the onset, it is just a question of how we are going to get there and how much money they invested in their CGI budget. This film invested $100 million in production costs and nearly $150 million in advertising for the film. Despite doing relatively well overall this film was in danger at one point of not making back the budget.

This is the world we live in now. The hype generated by marketing is more important than the film actually being any good. I do NOT think this film is good but I guess if you are one of those people that doesn't mind an incredibly easy-to-determine ending and enjoy the showcasing of special effects than maybe this would appeal to you. Lately, I have found that I require more from a film in order for me to consider it to be good. I like comedy as much as the next guy but normally I prefer that the comical nature of my films be "comic relief" whereas this entire film could be considered a comedy. It actually won an award for "best comedy" so I think that solidifies my point.

[src](https://rogermooresmovienation.files.wordpress.com/2019/04/shaz2.jpeg) Couldn't even splurge for an actual real product

The film follows Billy Batson, an orphan with a troubled past who is searching for his real mother (kinda). By pure chance after he is being chased by bullies he is transported to a magical realm where is determined to be pure of heart and is therefore bestowed with superhero powers. However, he is not a superhero all the time but if he shouts "Shazam!" he gets transformed into an adult superhero along with powers that has to figure out on his own.

I suppose some of this is interesting because just like when Spiderman is figuring out his superpowers, he doesn't exactly know what he is capable of and it requires some trial and error to figure it all out. The major problem is that he seems to be basically invincible so the baddies in the film, which are the 7 deadly sins, never really stand a chance against him. This omnipotence is the big problem I have with other superheroes especially Captain Marvel.

    Seven_Sins.jpg src

I would say that this is some sort of spoiler but is there such a thing as spoiling a superhero film? I mean, they all end up the same way so the fact that he Billy emerges victorious in the end shouldn't come as too much of a surprise.

I think the only thing that this film really has going for it is that it is extremely kid friendly and perhaps that is what they were going for in the first place. For me, the whimsical nature that these types of films have taken on in recent years actually takes away from the overall standpoint, but I suppose they need to achieve a PG or PG13 rating by whatever means necessary. Kids will love this movie, that is for sure, as for adults, unless you have kids (I don't) I can't really see it appealing a great deal unless you are one of those people that is just going to applaud anything and everything that DC and Marvel manage to crank out.

    Should I watch it?

I don't know how to answer this question but if you are a Netflix subscriber I think you will probably end up doing so anyway because well, they don't have a whole lot going on at the moment as far as quality is concerned. The film is entertaining, but only in the same vapid way that almost every superhero film has been in the past decade. For me, I tend to agree with Martin Scorsese when he said that superhero films "are not cinema, they are more like theme parks."

  3. Shazam! – Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2339d

    Shazam.jpg

It's a really cute movie. I am not a DC fan, I didn't watch Shazam! on the big screen. I saw that it was available to stream for free and thought why not? It should be entertaining at least, and it was.

Also, despite the very immature humor of this movie it is a very much PG13 movie. I mean there are monsters in this movie that do not appear in this trailer that actually have a really scary design. And it has some violent moments that could be considered a little over the PG13 line. That's not very surprising when you consider that the director David F. Sandberg, directed Lights Out and Annabelle 2. But the humor feels like it was meant for little children. It's an odd contrast.

The movie follows Billy Batson, played by Asher Angel, as he gets placed in foster care. Again. After he run away from the previous family. The movie was marketed as the superhero version of Big, but it actually has really sad and grim aspects to it. Especially when you consider the biological families in this movie. After helping his new adopted brother, Batson is chosen by the Wizard Shazam to have him powers. Now whenever Batson says "Shazam" he turns into an adult superhero played by Zachary Levi, who basically plays himself in this movie. Batson's adopted brother, Freddy (played brilliantly by Jack Dylan Grazer), helps him learn all about that superhero life, because he is a superhero fan. That's where we get all the small references to other DCEU movies.

Mark Strong plays the evil Dr. Sivana who covets Shazams powers and will stop at nothing to gain them. He is actually a pretty good villain. He doesn't have any big plan, he is just evil because that how life's circumstances in combination with something that was there all along made him. He doesn't have any master plan other than gain more power. And the performance is great.

This movie has darkness, heart, charm, brilliant references outside of the DCEU and an ok plot with childish humor. You will probably enjoy this movie and then forget you saw it. But it's still fun.

  4. Shazam - Movie Review@coldsteem2629d

I wasn't sure what to expect with the new Shazam movie. It was nostalgic. The trailers brought me back to Saturday mornings a few decades back. But it also looked like it had potential to be really bad. The trailers looked just a little bit campy. Campy can be fun, but it can also mean certain disaster. Shazam threaded the needle deftly, delivering campy fun without seeming ridiculous.

Billy Batson (Asher Angel) is not your typical teenage kid. Billy became separated from his mother as a child, leading him to a revolving door childhood in various foster homes. To be fair, it is normally Billy who runs away. He is obsessed with finding his birth mother. His latest escapades lands him at a group home. His roommate Freddy (Jack Dylan Glazer) is a superhero fanatic. He even owns a bullet that Superman stopped with his body. Billy tolerates Freddy, but doesn't plan to stick around long. However, fate has different plans. Billy is summoned by an ancient protector, whose powers are transferred to the anxious teen. The powers transform the gangly teen into the powerful Shazam! (Zachary Levi). Billy takes his newfound powers for granted, mugging for cameras for money. He matures into his gifts when his new family is threatened by arch-villain Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong). With a little help from family, Billy can learn to master his gifts and defeat the evil doctor and his seven deadly sins.

Henry Gayden doesn't have a lot of work under his belt. At least, nothing I have heard of. But his screenplay was engaging. He managed to engage in some campy fun, pay homage to the source material and create engaging characters that were worthy of the time I invested. I enjoyed this story. It was campy, it was fun and it delivered enough substance to make a sequel seem fathomable. I liked the dialogue and never felt manipulated. The story also had a nice flow. It was a bit cliche at times, but I was engaged.

Zachary Levi has done plenty of television, but hasn't done a lot of film. I don't really recognize him, in spite of the fact he has been around the industry for two decades. This film was a great opportunity for him to break out. I hope he does. He managed to deliver a believable fourteen-year-old character with some tongue-in-cheek fun. His delivery was spot on. I enjoyed Angel in the lead role and thought Grazer played a good supporting role. This film was well cast. I think the combination of writing and casting helped sell this story. While I watched the old series, I don't think it ever really struck me as being exceptional. This movie was better than I expected. The casting and writing helped elevate it.

Shazam is a teenager. He is a comic superhero who is essentially just a teen, with the typical teen angst. The concept is one that should appeal to teen fans, so the PG-13 rating was probably essential to the success of this film. The rating is based on crude humor, intense action, scary creatures, language and suggestive themes. I didn't find it overtly objectionable. I would not limit this film by age. The run time comes in at a healthy two hours, twelve minutes. It didn't feel that long. The film had great pacing that kept it moving along at a good clip.

Shazam was a bit silly, but it was fun. I felt that Director David Sandberg took the time to make a film that mattered. The story does not take itself too seriously, poking a bit of fun at itself, yet delivered a decent plot. It is the typical graphic novel fare. Good vs. evil. Good triumphs over evil. An inkling that evil still lurks for the inevitable sequel. But it was a fun story with enjoyable dialogue and characters that mattered enough to invest in. I will probably go see the sequel if DC decides to make one. I have a feeling that will be a "yes." This film appears to be doing well at the box office. 7.5/10.

  5. [NYT] Watch Zachary Levi Discover Superpowers in ‘Shazam!’ - Anatomy of a Scene with director David F. Sandberg@cryplectibles2637d
Many a comic-book origin story movie has had to answer this question, and “Shazam!” approaches it with both a light touch and a heavy splat. In this scene, Zachary Levi plays Billy, a boy recently imbued with new powers (along with an adult body). His foster brother Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer) helps him figure out just what those powers are in a sequence that involves a painful-looking stunt leap and some pyrotechnics. In commentary, the director David F. Sandberg discusses how he worked out the comic timing with Levi and Grazer, and how he gave the Michael Bay treatment to a transformer (but not that kind of transformer).

  6. A Geeky Dad's Movie Guide to Shazam! (2019)@hanshotfirst2637d

Shazam! Someone at D.C. finally got the memo. If you make a movie that has heart, humor, doesn't take itself too seriously and is fun, it does not need a perfect story, dazzling special effects or great acting. Somehow gaping plot holes don't seem as significant when you are busy enjoying yourself.

Shazam! is by far the best D.C. movie since The Dark Night Trilogy... and it isn't even a close contest. In fact, I may have enjoyed Shazam! more than The Dark Knight Rises. I realize that the D.C. lineup over the past eight years isn't exactly analogous to the 1927 Yankees, but it is still a feat to be the best of any bunch. For the first time, I can say with confidence that a D.C. Extended Universe movie is actually better than something in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although many people Liked Wonder Woman I think that was a result of it comparing favorably with the hot garbage D.C. had produced before it. Although it was the best of a bad bunch, it wasn't even better than Thor 2 or the Ironman sequels. *Shazam! actually fits quite nicely with the middle tier of marvel movies (which includes everything except those three previously mentioned movies and the cream of the crop which is Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor Ragnarok, and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. That middle tier includes the movies I own on DVD and will watch more than once. I will definitely watch Shazam! many times. In fact, I can't wait to take my daughter to see it in the theater ASAP (just my son and I went this past weekend).

How did it earn a spot among the highly entertaining Marvel movies?

First of all, this movie did not take itself too seriously. Instead of a brooding hero, we finally got one with a smirk firmly planted on his face. These stories are about super-humans running around in capes and underwear. If you try to deliver that in too serious of a way you end up with the unintentionally hilarious Batman Vs Superman. Shazam! is about a 14 year old kid who suddenly gets super powers. It is the perfect combination of Big and the Christopher Reeve Superman from 1978. The writers were so aware of the Big comparison that they wisely tossed in a brilliant Easter egg that hearkens back to the Tom Hanks classic. Although the movie is not a strict comedy, it winks at the audience... and itself just enough to make sure the former has a smile fastened to their face for the entire 120 minute ride.

Speaking of humor, the jokes all work. Although it was not as funny as Deadpool or Ant-Man and the Wasp, it contained a couple of big belly laughs as well as many other chuckles. A 14 year old getting superpowers and an adult body should generate some laughs... and it did. Just imagine what you would have done when you were 14 and suddenly could pass for 35.

Although the humor was a welcome addition to the otherwise dreadful D.C. Universe, it was not this movie's best feature. That honor goes to its heart. It had a huge one. The story of an orphan who refuses to give up on finding the mother he lost when he was only three years old really tugs at your heartstrings. But even that isn't why this movie moved me so much. Shazam! is a love letter to the foster parents who choose to take in and care for the 437,465 children who need them. Even with such a powerful, beautiful and essential message, there is still room for more in this movie's heart. Although the foster parents are the true heroes of this movie, the importance of family in general plays a pivotal role. As if that weren't enough, the film delivers a very poignant anti-bullying message.

Surprisingly, the movie does not contain that much action. But that is OK. The story truly carried this movie. Neither my son nor I were ever bored during the two hour run time. I don't recall a single person leaving the theater during the entire movie. I think everyone was thoroughly entertained.

Wow it sounds like this movie is perfect. But its not. Movies that rely heavily on child actors rarely pitch a perfect game. At least one or two are bound to be stiff and awkward. That was definitely the case in Shazam! In addition, D.C. continues to struggle with their special effects. Compared to Marvel, they are simply terrible. The monsters continue to look like video game characters. There is never the illusion that they are actually standing right beside their human counterparts. The script also had several gaping plot holes... but I can typically overlook those when I'm dealing with movies centered on people who wear their underwear on the outside of their clothes.

Luckily the fun factor covered up all of these blemishes.

Shazam! is not your typical D.C. Extended Universe movie... it is actually incredibly entertaining. Do yourself a favor and see it in the theater ASAP.
