  1. Review ||LA ISLA SINIESTRA|| Netflix Thriller Movie (2010) [ESP/ENG]@edwarlyn11703d

Hello my dear readers of Hive and lovers of the cinematographic world ❤️

This time I want to share with you one of the thrillers that broke my head the most in terms of suspense and psychological horror genre. I really like this kind of stories, because they make you get into the plot in a way because you don't know what to expect, nothing is completely certain or taken for granted until the end of the movie.

THE SINISTER ISLAND, a title that when it was recommended to me the first thing I associated was a horror film, that I would find ghosts, demonic or paranormal entities, and never that it would be something more psychological, something that had to do with the human mind and the great power it can have for or against ourselves.

First as the protagonist we have Leonardo DiCaprio, an investigator in charge of the mysterious murder of a patient of a secluded sanatorium on an island that has only one exit, a gloomy and desolate place with several sections according to the degree of danger of the patients since most of them are confined for having committed a crime and are under police protection. As I was saying, as the plot goes on, the direction of the story and each character changes completely.

My score for this movie would be a 9 out of 10. If you pay close attention you will surely be surprised with the unexpected outcome at the end. Here I share with you the trailer to encourage you to watch it if you haven't done it yet... and then let me know how you like it 😸.

  2. Shutter Island (2010)@andreseloy5811085d

This is a suspense movie that could be considered a psychological thriller, the script written by Laeta Kalogridis and Steven Knight is based on the book of the same name by author Dennis Lehane published in 2003.

It was directed by Martin Scorsese and starred Leonardo DiCaprio, who came from several important successes such as Titanic and The Aviator, to mention just two, the latter of which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

    image.png Image

The plot revolves around two federal agents (Edward "Teddy" Daniels, played by DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule, played by Mark Ruffalo, who are sent to an island where a prison and psychiatric hospital called Ashecliffe is located off the coast of Boston in 1954.

Their mission is to investigate the disappearance of Rachel Solando, a patient who apparently evaporated mysteriously from a locked room.

Two psychiatrists named John Cawley and Jeremiah Naehring are in charge of the place and experiment on the patients, something they discover when they get there.

    image.png Image

Edward participated in the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp and had lost his wife and fallen into alcoholism, so his emotional stability was compromised and what they see there reminds him of that past.

The film has unexpected twists, shocking scenes and professional dialogues about mental disorders that keep the viewer attentive to the next scenes.

The photography of the locations is good and captures the beauty of an island with special characteristics, this was in charge of Robert Richardson, nominated at that time to 5 Oscars in the line and winner in 1992 for the film JFK and in 2005 for The aviator, where coincidentally the protagonist was Di Caprio.

    image.png Image

It was released in January 2010 and the critical opinion was good, highlighting the script and the twists of the same, as well as other details that project it as disturbing, the box office collection has been close to 295 million dollars and is in the 68th place in the FA ranking. Among the best thrillers in the history of cinema and ranked 78th among the Best films of the 21st century.

It is an interesting choice with an unexpected ending.

  3. Shutter Island(2010)@minhajulmredol1895d

I am very much fond of thriller or mystery-type movies. Give me some movies of this genre and I can spend my whole day with them. So here comes the CineTv writing contest. From the beginning, I am trying to be in the cine tribe with my movie reviews from my end and on top of that here I got the contest, impressive. Isn't it very difficult to find out the most favorite movie? I couldn’t figure out which is the best for me but I have picked one which would be on the top if I start to make a list. It's Shutter Island. I have watched this movie twice and even today I feel that the mystery isn’t solved yet. Something is knocking in my head, something is feeling like I have missed. It's truly a mystery that I still feel hard to solve.

Well,Shutter Island came on the air in 2010 directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Laeta Kalogridis. This one is based on a novel named "Shutter Island" which was written by Dennis Lehane in 2003. I didn’t know about the novel when I first watched the movie. Leonardo Di Caprio is one of my favorite actors so maybe it was he, who attracted me to watch the movie in the beginning. One thing before I start, this post contains spoilers.

Storyline: The movie starts with Edward Daniels (Teddy) and his partner Chuck and they were going to an island named Shutter Island where is the Ashecliffe hospital for the criminally insane patients. They were US marshals going to investigate a missing case of one of the patients there named Rachel Solando. As the movie was progressing I was feeling like something happened to that patient and the authority could be behind that as usual in all movies. The authority wasn’t cooperating with them as per their demand so something fishy is easy to guess. My guess was going on point as Teddy was doing his investigation and finding clues that were leading to some mystery. Finding a note on Solanda's room written, "Law of 4, who is 67" While investigating a patient secretly written "Run" on a paper indicates that something is fishy there.

But the first surprise I got was when I heard that teddy came here on purpose. He wants to find Andrew Laeddis by whom his wife was killed at her apartment due to a fire that broke out. Even he knew that something mysterious experiments are going on this island from a patient of this hospital who was here in the past. I was also surprised by Teddy's motive that he doesn’t want to kill him. As he was in the war so he had seen enough killings so don't want more. That was impressive. The first twist I got was the time when Chuck started to realize that they didn't come by their own will; they were brought here by the authorities for any motive because till now they didn't find any evidence of Solanda's existence.

After a storm, everything had massive damage and Teddy got a chance to enter a restricted ward. He thought he would find Laddie there but he got George who told Teddy about the unusual activities here. He then cleared a mystery that Teddy was bought here and he is in a maze. He needs to choose one between finding Laeddie or solving the mystery. Oh, another thing I almost forgot to share is that ever since Teddy came here he gets the pain of migrants frequently. He also sees his dead wife talking to him and instructing on many things. Their mystery was quite solved when Teddy found Solando in a cave where she shared the experiments they are doing on the lighthouse on the human brain. Even she cleared that Teddy is bought for the same purpose and already they started giving him medicine through aspirin he took for migrant pain and via cigarette.

The main twist or the mystery you can say whatever you want comes at the lighthouse. There Teddy breaks in with a gun and finds Cawley who was waiting for him. He started to unfold twists one after another. Teddy who we were assuming as Edward Daniels is actually Andrew Laddies and he is the 67th patient of Ashecliffe. He has murdered his wife Dolores Chanal. Edward Daniels and Rachel Solando had no existence in the real world; these two names came from his and his wife's name into his delusion. Trust me I didn't believe all these in the first, I thought the authority was trying to make him insane for their experiment. But facts were unfolding in such a way that I got into the dilemma of where I should believe. His partner Chuck was his Dr.Sheehan. The next day he confessed about his state which states that he murdered his wife and he is a patient of here. The warden mentioned that they had gained this state from him nine months ago too and he lost that. Even he warned him that it was his last chance otherwise they will lobotomize him which he(w) doesn’t want to do. They don't want to erase all his memories.

The next day Andrew sitting on the ground calls Sheehan Chuck again which means he lost again. Sheehan nods his head looking at Cawley and they take Andrew away.

Screenshot_80.jpg This screenshot is taken from the movie

But the most favorite part that haunts me even today is the last quote from Andrew made for Sheehan before leaving.

Which would be worse, to live as a monster or to die as a good man?

It made me feel that Andrew or Teddy whatever we say chooses with his conscience to be lobotomized willingly. Maybe he can't live with the burden of killing his wife instead he may choose to die thinking that he didn’t kill them. That was the most favorite ending till now for me. Surely this movie is very hard to get if someone doesn’t watch it two or three times. Still, now I feel that mystery is left unsolved somewhere or something is missing even today. Who knows how many times I will be watching it again.

  5. Why did Leonardo DiCaprio deserve an Oscar at Shutter Island? - Review@reviewzzz2245d

We always look for the title and a movie story before watching them, but in Leonardo DiCaprio films it is completely different. Once you hear the name of the hero Leonardo, you are quick to go to the cinema or to the movie platforms to see the movie.

Today we have a psychologically complex film with a lot of questions and puzzles, from start to finish. Leonardo DiCaprio was creatively indescribable in 2010 so everyone was surprised at not getting an Oscar Award that year.

Date of launch: March 10, 2010 Director: Martin Scorsese The author of the story: Dennis Lihan Nominations: Satellite Award for Best Cinematography Awards: Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor: Horror / Thriller

    image.png

    The story of the movie

The story of the movie initially revolves around an investigator on a ship who is going to one of the islands where there is a mental hospital, and one of the patients has disappeared from there. Here, his role is to search for the cause of the disappearance, but as soon as he steps foot in the island, he notices many strange things that happen inside the hospital and turns from a researcher on the patient to an investigator looking for crimes that occur inside the hospital. It became clear to him after exploring that doctors in the hospital and the guards were conducting experiments on the brains of patients in a manner that was contrary to humanity and reason. Once the hospital doctors discover this and the top guards start trying to get rid of him so that he doesn't find out the truth. Here Leonardo starts escaping from them until he reaches an area in a mountain hut, where he finds the girl who managed to escape and that came mainly to search here. Here, she tells him everything that is happening in the hospital from inhuman experiences and how she escaped from them to that place. He decides to get rid of them and take revenge for what they did and go to the top of the tower with a pistol to get rid of the chief neuroscientist, and here the film turns 180 degrees, so we discover here that the delusional patient here is Leonardo DiCaprio, who had schizophrenia occurred after his wife was killed and imagine himself an investigator looking for enemies. Analysts tried to create the conditions for him to find himself actually a detective and then discover what happened to him during that journey, but it seems that he lost control of his mind until he could not change his personality.

    image.png

    An impression of the movie

We have an excellent movie in every sense of the representation, direction and thought, and although the movie was old before the era of cameras and the huge production that we live in now, the director was able to come out with the film in the best image and that giant Leonardo helped him embody the character as it should. The movie did not make us doubt a moment about the character of the hero detective, whose signs of self-confidence appear to be like a law school or the police, and not a psychopath with whom schizophrenia appears.

    Hero

Without any introductions, Leonardo Di Decaprio was the biggest factor in the success of the film and I believe that no actor could perform this great performance in terms of schizophrenia. He is an officer who was affected by the war, then returned to find his wife killed, so he transformed from a healthy person to a troubled person looking for the reason for his wife's death, so he would find a personal investigator.

    image.png

Why didn't the movie get an Oscar?

I think the main reason that the film did not get the Oscar was a weakness in the film, which is photography and production. The film did not collect the full elements that would enable it to obtain an Oscar this year despite the performance and the story, but it lacked many elements such as music and audio. And photography. And I think if the movie had been produced in an advanced year, for example 2015 or 2016 and not in 2010, it would have been a tough competition for Oscars.

  6. Shutter Island (film): I wasn't thrilled with it@gooddream2676d

I know that I am overly critical of Leonardo DiCaprio - that is kind of one of my "things." I feel as though he is over-rated as an actor and doesn't deserve a great deal of the praise that he gets. I believe that most of the films he is in are good in spite of him, rather than because of him. I believe that every DiCaprio film would be a little bit better if they were Matt Damon movies. That being said, I don't think that Shutter Island's failure to impress me was his fault.

    [source](https://www.cheaplightning.com/wp-content/uploads/imported/4/34/Shutter-Island-Scorsese-Leo-Movie-Poster-Chirashi-JPN-370382036234.jpg)

Ok, right out of the gate I am going to admit that this was a massive financial success. That was always going to be the case when Scorsese teams up with DiCaprio. Add to the fact that Mark Ruffalo (one of my favorite actors) and Ben Kingsley (I believe one of the most talented actors of all time) are also in the movie and it kind of had to succeed, right?

DiCaprio plays Edward "Teddy" Daniels, a U.S. Marshal that is investigating the disappearance of a patient who was incarcerated at a mental hospital for drowning her 3 children. He is teamed up on this investigation with a partner he has never worked with before who is played by Mark Ruffalo.

    [source](https://i1.wp.com/www.frenchtoastsunday.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/screenshot-lrg-06.png)

The movie starts out interesting enough because what isn't interesting about visiting a super-secure mental hospital that houses the criminally insane on an island? That is creepy enough on its own but the way the scenes are shot add to the dread as does the choice of music and sound.

and of course there is always this lady.

    I3VW.gif source

I applaud the fact that this film tried to steer away from the annoying predictable nature of Hollywood movies and instead opted for a massive "twist" that would leave the audience shocked. This is what I enjoy about Korean movies and would like to see the tactic employed more frequently in US films. However, the execution of this twist was done very poorly.

    [source](https://images4.static-bluray.com/reviews/2854_1.jpg)

Myself and many other people I know were able to predict what was really going on in the film long before the audience is meant to. I don't remember exactly what it was that tipped us all off but I knew well before it was revealed what was really going on and then when the moment came that was supposed to be shocking I was like "you don't say???" It wasn't surprising and the tells were not subtle enough (I am intentionally being vague here so as to not spoil the film for people that have not seent it.)

    27e15cc286aa681a8da98fe031439164.png source

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Leo is not a convincing father character. He is just too boyish to be playing the role of someone who is a doting dad to 3 kids. He also is not terribly convincing as an authority figure such as a police detective or US Marshall - he simply isn't intimidating. It's like a little kid dressing up for Halloween for the most part. While I will admit that the has some very good roles under his belt, the ones where I am supposed to believe that he is an adult with kids are the ones where my reaction is "No, you're NOT!"

While I wont totally bag on this film I simply didn't think it was great. I found myself quite bored while watching it and the fact that the big twist was telegraphed so early on in the film totally ruined it for me. If you haven't seen this one I would say you can pretty safely skip it and all will be well in the world.

On a scale of "urgh!" to "Wowsers!" I give Shutter Island a score of...

    "Meh!"
