La verdad es que tampoco podría elegir una entre el mar de películas que me gustan. En algún tiempo solía decir este nombre, no pienso que sea así ahora, pero sí es cierto que la sigo disfrutando cada vez que la miro. Así que abriendo el baúl de los recuerdos hoy les voy a hablar de una película que me encanta y no me canso de ver: Alguien tiene que ceder (2003).
Hello friends! Probably if you ask me which is my favorite movie I don't know what to answer because the answer is always that it depends on the moment. The truth is that I couldn't choose one among the sea of movies I like. At some time I used to say this name, I don't think so now, but it is true that I still enjoy it every time I watch it. So, opening the trunk of memories, today I am going to talk about a movie that I love and I never get tired of watching: Something´s Gotta Give (2003).
Trama - Plot
En la trama nos vamos a encontrar con un hombre soltero de unos 60 años que sale con mujeres mucho más jóvenes que él. Hasta que conoce a la madre de su última novia, sufre un ataque cardíaco y se tiene que quedar un tiempo en la casa de verano de ella para hacer reposo. Mientras la mujer, Erica, una escritora que no está encontrando inspiración para su próxima obra, trata de reconciliarse con el hecho de que está empezando a sentir cosas por este hombre llamado Harry que en un principio parece detestar y viceversa. Por otro lado, también llamó la atención del doctor que atendió a Harry, un hombre bastante joven que siente admiración por ella y la invita a salir para conocerla. Así que ahora está en medio de dos hombres, y uno de ellos salía con su hija, aunque era una cosa del momento. Sin embargo, decide darle rienda suelta a esa pasión con Harry y termina con el corazón roto. Así que en un ataque de inspiración que suele traer atravesar por esa situación escribe una de las obras de teatros más exitosas de su carrera, y también decide darle una oportunidad al joven doctor. Un tiempo después Harry se da cuenta que no puede olvidarla y trata de recuperarla de nuevo.
In the plot we are going to meet a single man in his 60's who dates women much younger than him. Until he meets the mother of his last girlfriend, he suffers a heart attack and has to stay for a while at her summer house to rest. While the woman, Erica, a writer who is failing to find inspiration for her next work, tries to reconcile herself to the fact that she is beginning to feel things for this man named Harry that at first she seems to detest and vice versa. On the other hand, she also caught the eye of the doctor who treated Harry, a rather young man who has admiration for her and asks her out to meet her. So now she is in the middle of two men, and one of them was dating her daughter, although it was a thing of the moment. However, she decides to give free rein to that passion with Harry and ends up heartbroken. So in a fit of inspiration that usually brings going through that situation she writes one of the most successful plays of her career, and also decides to give the young doctor a chance. Some time later Harry realizes he can't forget her and tries to win her back.

Me encanta esta película, me resulta muy divertida. Además tiene un mensaje claro y es que nunca es tarde para el amor. Parece una obviedad pero a veces necesitamos recordarnos esto. Puede suceder que uno cierre esa puerta, pero no, se puede abrir cuando menos lo esperemos. Incluso si no estamos preparados para que suceda.
I love this movie, I find it very funny. It also has a clear message and that is that it is never too late for love. It seems obvious but sometimes we need to remind ourselves of this. It can happen that one closes that door, but no, it can open when we least expect it. Even if we are not prepared for it to happen.
Me gusta porqué estuvo bastante adelantada para su tiempo, la relación que Marin tenía con Harry era superficial, del momento, solo para divertirse y lo tenían muy claro. Aunque a su madre Erica se le hiciera raro y no lo compartiera por la diferencia de edad, no es que se iba a casar con él tampoco. Ahora lo que Julian sentía por Erica si era más profundo y resultado de la admiración también, pienso yo, nada más que a Erica se le hacía raro y no merecedora de ese amor por, de nuevo, la diferencia de edad, ya que él es 20 años menor que ella. Sé que es muy probable que cuando esto sucede haya otros intereses de por medio más que el amor, pero si ambos son personas adultas conscientes de sus actos deberían vivirlo y ver hasta dónde los lleva.
I like it because it was way ahead of its time, the relationship Marin had with Harry was superficial, of the moment, just for fun and they were very clear about it. Even if her mother Erica thought it was weird and didn't share it because of the age difference, it's not like she was going to marry him either. Now what Julian felt for Erica if it was deeper and a result of admiration too, I think, nothing more than Erica was weirded out and undeserving of that love because of, again, the age difference, since he is 20 years younger than her. I know it's very likely that when this happens there are other interests involved more than love, but if they are both adult people aware of their actions they should live it and see how far it takes them.
Por otro lado, también nos habla del amor maduro y de que nunca es tarde para abrirse de nuevo a experimentarlo, al igual que la vida sexual, que la edad no sea un impedimento. Me gustó como se muestra este punto porque no lo hacen lucir perfecto, sino acorde a lo que me imagino que pasaría en la vida real. Se me viene a la mente la escena en la que antes de tener relaciones sexuales se miden la presión arterial 😂.
On the other hand, it also tells us about mature love and that it is never too late to open up again to experience it, as well as sexual life, that age is not an impediment. I liked how this point is shown because they don't make it look perfect, but according to what I imagine would happen in real life. The scene where before having sex they measure their blood pressure 😂 comes to mind.
Puede ser una historia bastante enredante, pero diversión no va a faltar. Adoro a Diane Keaton y creo que su actuación estuvo increíble, hay una escena muy icónica de ella cuando está escribiendo la obra de teatro dónde llora y se ríe al mismo tiempo como desquiciada, la amo. Me siento un poco identificada con ella, a lo mejor sea el hecho de que nos llamemos igual o que las dos tengamos esos ataques cuando escribimos. Jack Nicholson también tiene sus momentos memorables y la mayoría suceden cuando sufrió su infarto. Adoré a este par.
It may be a pretty convoluted story, but it won't be lacking in fun. I love Diane Keaton and I think her performance was incredible, there is a very iconic scene of her when she is writing the play where she cries and laughs at the same time like crazy, I love her. I feel a little bit identified with her, maybe it's the fact that we have the same name or that we both have those attacks when we write. Jack Nicholson also has his memorable moments and most of them happen when he had his heart attack. I adored this pair.
Alguien tiene que ceder es de esas películas que es para mirar muchas veces y no aburrirte, siempre la disfrutó. El final es muy bonito y memorable. También me gusta el significado de su título, es como si los dos fueran tan orgullosos y tercos en aceptar sus sentimientos que podrían no haber terminado juntos, por eso alguien tuvo que ceder.
Something's Gotta Give is one of those movies that is to watch many times and not get bored, always enjoyed it. The ending is very nice and memorable. I also like the meaning of its title, it's like the two are so proud and stubborn in accepting their feelings that they might not have ended up together, that's why someone had to give in.
