  1. The Acolyte - Episode 7: A Flashback Frenzy or Necessary Context?@skiptvads709d
    Source

The seventh episode of The Acolyte has been quite the hot topic among fans and those who have watched the series. This one, however, is called ‘Choice’ and considering that this is the second last episode of the series, it focuses on the choices made throughout the series and their repercussions. Episode 7 tries to provide some answers and at the same time build up for the final episode through the use of flashbacks and present day scenes. But the delivery has raised many controversies among the viewers. In this article, we will discuss the highlights and the low lights of this episode, the plot and the characters and how this episode affected the overall show.

    The Flashback Frenzy

There is one major issue that has divided fans of the show and that is the use of flashbacks in Episode 7. The episode offers the Jedi’s side of the events that happened on Brendok, which gives a new insight into the tragic division of the twin sisters Mae and Osha. However, this approach provides useful background information; however, many viewers complained that the entire episode was spent on the flashback. The story could have been moved forward with some dialogues instead of a lot of rewind of the past.

The flashbacks do help to reveal the reasons and the behaviors of certain characters though. We observe the Jedi’s search for a force vergence a significant convergence of force energy on the planet Brendok. This mission which is led by Sol and Indara becomes disastrous due to the interference of the personal feelings of the characters and the strict rules of the Jedi Order. Sol’s desire to make Osha his Padawan and ignoring the advice of Indara led to all the troubles that followed.

    Jedi's Personality Development

Episode seven helps to reveal and understand the inner conflict of Sol, not that it was so clear and potentially opening the door for a second season, if there is one. He is very much attracted to Osha and he is very much afraid of failing, but I guess its for the wrong reasons, and this makes him take dangerous risks. This makes Sol a more conflicted Jedi, as he is describe to struggle with his feelings, something that is quite human but not very Jedi, sentimental attachments are usually the path to the Dark Side.

On the other hand, Indara comes out as the most rational of the team, she is more practical and sticks to the Jedi ways while Sol is rather reckless, this dynamic makes the team fall apart, specially when Torbyn notice this argument between the two masters, and shows the internal conflict of the Jedi Order and their beliefs. Nonetheless, there were some complaints about the lack of development of the character Indara through out the entire series not just this episode, her rational behavior was frequently outshone by Sol’s hysteric fits, but there is a moment on the episode where her patience and rational thinking goes off the road too.

Mae and Osha, are still the main characters of the story, on this episode the main twist is that they are in fact two people sharing one mind in two different bodies is very interesting but then again I'm not sure if this unnecessary suspense, we would expect that after all this episodes production would bring more closure to the story. This idea is rather interesting but it opens more questions than it provides answers to, for instance What was the reason for their mother Aniseya to separate them? What can be concluded from this particular link? These questions remain unanswered as the episode goes on and the audience is left, again, wanting a conclusion.

The ending of the episode is quite messy after the dust is settle we got Kelnacca frustrated because the Witches got into his mind when he is suppose to be a Master Jedi at this point specially after knowing Torbyn went through the same experience. Sol gives in to his anger, very childish by the way, because Indara was not letting him take Osha as a padawan at first mainly because of his emotions, he gives in too easy and he was fixed on the idea that he needed Osha as his apprentice. Lastly and the final blow, Indara, I understand why she did it but on top of everything she is a Jedi, she joins Sol to cover up what happen and not tell the truth to the Jedi Council. I said the ending was too messy because in my opinion this is just too much explanation and jump through a lot of hoops to figure out what was very predictable.

    The Episode's Action

Pacing plays a very important role in Episode 7, I consider that the shifting between the past and the present is quite chaotic and may be confusing at times as it does not allow the audience to get a smooth flow of the events. The episode tries to fit a lot of story elements, character developments and twists into a single episode which makes it feel quite messy, I felt that this rather random approach does not allow me to have the kind of immersive effect that was episode four and five.

While the pacing remains a problem, there are some genuinely great scenes throughout the episode, for example the fight scenes are still well executed to the best and I don't understand why they didn't try to exploit this with having more of this action scenes. The fight scenes especially the light saber duels are very dramatic and the graphics are quite impressive describing the might of the Jedi, this time around giving context of how Kelnacca was mind control by the Witches and this led to the fight between Kelnacca, Sol and Torbyn. This and only fight scene serve as context to why Torbyn got the scar on his face and lost his left eye sight.

Episode 7 of The Acolyte is a rather ambiguous and quite polarizing episode of the series, It is very much driven by flashbacks and while this has been both a strength and a weakness, it has also left the series with some pacing issues and a rather cliff hanger narrative. Although it also has its positives, depending on who you are, if you are really incline into looking for clues and love the suspense; it does provide some interesting perspectives into the characters and the Jedi Order’s double sided moral, specially coming from Indara.

The final episode is coming and there are still many questions that have not been answered and many conflicts that have not been resolved. Will we get explain why the twins are so close? Where will Sol and Mae go to, running away from Master Vernestra? Lastly what about Qimir and Osha, where are this to standing?.

The Acolyte is a rather daring and some what innovative entry in the Star Wars canon but I understand it piss off a lot of the fan base when changing so many things at once. It tackles themes and moral questions that enrich the series, what most people would call "woke", although it does not always do it successfully so it fails on many aspects. The Acolyte has received a lot of attention and criticism, which is why it can be considered as one of the most provocative TV series of the Star Wars Universe, but in my final opinion its not the worst TV series I have seen and also it is quite entertaining at times.

  2. The Acolyte (2024): Episode 06 - Teach/Corrupt - RECAP@skiptvads716d
    Source

The sixth episode of The Acolyte is now out and this episode is filled with plot twists, more action and an exploration of the dark side of the force, this episode also has the title “Teach/Corrupt” and it focuses on the further development of the relations and the motives of the characters since the beginning of the series including now Vernestra Rwoh since she could be the one to fault for all this mess. We witness the characters dealing with their past and allegiance while fighting the constant menace of the dark side, good example is how it seems Osha might join Qimir and probably Mae, twins back together on the dark side?. This episode is full of twists and turns that will leave the a large part of the audience, at least the small audience that still watch the show; in disbelieve that there is no way they ended the episode on such cliff hanger, this is one of the best episodes so far along with episode four and the big light saber fight between Qimir and the Jedi.

    The Seduction of Ohsa

The center of this episode can be seen as the seduction of Ohsa by Qimir, who has been a rather ambiguous character in the series, becomes the main focus as he tries to seduce Ohsa to the dark side, his strategy turn out to be more psychological and emotional rather than by force, appealing to Ohsa’s emotions of being left and betrayed by the Jedi Order. He try to use his own life experiences and remorse to make Ohsa feel that they are on the same side and she starts to doubt her own principles, that is how you kill the dream.

Qimir is very smart and powerful so he has nothing to loose and could just snap Osha neck at any time he wants; he uses indirect approaches that are quite efficient, he does not tell Ohsa a direct lie, but rather leaves out some facts which give a rather negative picture of the Jedi, very sleek of him. He reveal to her that the Jedi have been holding her back and she is capable of much more than what the Jedi have been allowing her to do, makes me wonder if he knows where they came from, I mean the twins. This is in agreement with Ohsa who has always felt like an outcast in the Order and one of the reasons she "left". It actually look too easy but to be hones Osha is not that smart, this seduction turns out successful when Ohsa wears the Cortosis helmet, , this scene is quite intense and a bit creepy, she can't almost see shit with the helmet but probably its  the hole idea, she alone with the Force.

    The Mystery of Qimir

In this episode Qimir’s character is developed farther and we learn more about his personality, motives and his relation with the Jedi Order, this is where we establish that he was once a Jedi but for some reason he is no longer one, so he is not your typical villain rather than a reject, he was also has this huge scar on his back as a reminder of this moment. He has the physical and psychological wounds that are evidence of the struggle and the suffering he has gone through.

The episode suggests that there is some more to Qimir’s relationship with other characters especially Sol, as it is clear that they have a certain conflict and some sort of relation, but it is not completely clear what it is, seem like Qimir remembers Sol but not the other way around, there is some sort of uncompleted story between them creating a thicker layer of suspense making me wonder what else is there to know about them besides Sol keep telling Osha / Mae that he will tell her the truth for the past three episodes now and we yet don't know wtf he is talking about.

    The Struggle of Sol

I'm really getting a bit tired of Sol holding back but he is going through some sort transformation that I also find interesting , loosing his temper, very not Jedi of him. He is mostly describe as a Jedi who is in the process of fighting with his feelings and his principles, something Jedi don't get attach to. The conversations he has with Ohsa and Qimir during the battle on episode four show a man who is in the middle of a conflict between the Jedi Order and his own feelings and its this internal conflict what we have seen in his actions and decisions, the doubt and anger is starting to come out. On this episode Sol doubts the choice of the Jedi Council, specially when he left Khoflar before Vernesta arrive. It is most clearly seen when he talks to Ohsa and reveals that he has been hiding things and feeling angry for many years.
    Source
    Source

    The Theme of Betrayal

This episode is filled with betrayal, as the main theme of this episode paints the picture in the lives of different characters in different ways, for example Mae is resentful of the Jedi Order which she perceives as having left her for dead, while Osha did join them but then was not allowing her to grow which makes me think if they discover their origins and then said no we cant teach the Force to her is just too risky. While Qimir finally reveal how he lost trust in his former master and the order is broken, which makes him turn to the dark side. Sol suffers his own feelings of treachery, both from the Order and from his own heart, and on top of all this bag of betrayal is Vernestra who is definitely hiding something from the senate and the council as she didn't want make to know Sol was at Khoflar but now she has no other option to tell, that is why Master Mog didn't know Sol was there, so Vernestra either did or knows about something very mess up and its trying to cover up.

    The Cliffhanger Ending

I could actually make a list of all the cliff hanger but I think it has all been mention on the above paragraphs, I think the episode has been good at keeping the suspense and trying to down shift after all the hype of episode four, the only really cool thing that happen was Vernestra showing her light saber and I hope we see her fight latter down the line, if there is a second season. The remaining conflicts between Qimir, Sol, and the Jedi Order is a good indicative that there is so much more explanation to do around the multiple conflicts.
The sixth episode of The Acolyte is one of the best examples of how a single episode can focus on the characters growth, conflicts, and feelings comparing to the rest of the series, it goes into detail about the dark side, the web of lies between Jedi, not everything is pink color for them neither. The aspects of the seduction of Ohsa, the enigma of Qimir and the struggle within Sol makes for a very interesting and twisted plot that keeps me interested on the series despite all the negativity around it, I have mention before this series is probably not good for Star Wars fan but its entertaining and might get new viewers into the franchise.

  3. The Acolyte (2024): Episode 05 - Unveiling the Sith - RECAP@skiptvads723d

    Source

There has been a lot of talking about the series of how bad it is, before I go nose first into the episode lets make something clear, the hole aspect of including females as main character is going to cause a revolution among Star Wars fan since most of them are men and I think we don't have to look this up I'm sure this is a fact there for when you poke the internet bear he is going to hit hard and send the rating to the very center of Earth if not below, I have seen way worst TV series and did not get this scores, Wolf Pack (2023) was a Fng bad TV series trying to bring back Buffy and got a 6.5!!! really?? I could not even continue watch it because the plot, acting and cgi was so bad. The Acolyte is not at that level, its just a large fanbase making a big roar and that I can understand, Star Wars fan base is probably one of the larges ever.

The series started very if not extremely slow keeping the suspense for too long, always ending episodes with big cliff hangers been episode 4 the biggest cliff hanger, Episode 5 comes back hard with great fight scenes, a bit censore to my taste like when Qimir cut the both Jedi head the put them behind a three but probably because of the audience that might watch this series.

The episode name Night is contrast to the previous episode called Day, this mostly reffers to Mae and Osha but this time fits perfectly as we finally know who the mysteryous Sith is, the series didn't try that hard to hide it but it's Qimir. Different than previous episodes this one is full of action and I consider is the best one so far, there are still three more episodes to go so I would expect another final battle, besides we still havent seen Vernestra Rwoh using her wip style light saber.

    Sith Master Revealed and Motives

The episode finally reveals who the Sith Master is but that opens the question to who train him? why nobody mention the word Sith and why Qimir said it like he is the only one who knows what the fuck is a Sith, the revelation confirms the theory that I had since episode one, the shape and how tall the Sith was fit perfectly Qimir. During some of the conversation he had with Sol he did mention a few key things like "you dont remember me?" and "back where everything started" refering probably to Osha and Sol the day he rescue her from falling during the fire, at the same time Qimir is all burn around his arms so probably he was with the coven of witches been the only boy he was probably hidden all the time.

Qimir turn out to be a great match for Sol and the other Jedi that were with him but most of them seem like lower tier Jedi, only Sol, Yord and Jecki been the ones that could put up a battle to Qimir. Qimir also mention how all he wants is an Acolyte, an apprentice to practice the Force how he wants it but he knows Jedi wont allow it, real question is what he gets out of Mae quest to kill the four Jedi who had to do with the accident if not revenge for Qimir too, this adds to my theory that Qimir was there the day the Covenant of Witches were killed.

    Jedi vs. Sith Battle

The entire episode was a constant battle between Sith and Jedi, I really love this because it was about time we had a proper battle not those wimpsy fights from the first episodes, but its evident why there are not so many battle scenes, similar to dragon fights when a Jedi or Sith pulls their saber is to use it meaning the possibilities of a character to die are very high, on this episode Qimir almost killed everyone except for Sol, Osha and Mae.

During the conversations while they were battling out many times both sides make it look like they were the good ones, on one side you got the Sith asking to be left alone all he wants is to practice the Force without Jedi interruption painting the Jedi as the bad guys trying to always control everything, I remember even how Qimir once said that the peace Jedi think they find is an illusion, same as how Master Torbin could never find peace and Kelnacca who went into hiding for the same reasons.

The real MVP of this episode was Jecki, RIP, when everything seem lost, most of the Jedi that went into the forest are dead, Yord going back to the ship with Osha trying to keep her safe and Sol having the worst part of the battle with Qimir. Jecki shows up a to arrest Mae, which she did. Mae and Jecki fight skills were very level but it was clear that Jecki had the most training out of the too, look more methodical on her moves, more sleek and kept flowing while Mae was more reactive to her moves. Jecki not only arrest Mae but also recover Kelnacca light saber that she use at a point to put up the best light saber fight of the episode against Qimir, dual light saber, knock Qimir mask that lead to reveal his identity and took the biggest L during the episode getting stab not once but three times in the chest during her fight with Qimir.

    Osha and Mae Confrontation

Osha and Mae keep revealing her past and their relationship has taken a dramatic change, at first when Mae sees her sister for the first time all she felt was love for her sister, even call her Oshi but its been shown before how possessive and dominant she was between the two. Osha on the other hand has always show her hate for Mae because she is to blame for the fire that kill everyone including their mother sixteen years ago, although this has not been proven to be true, yes it was Mae who did it but in her eyes it looks like she was been controlled.

After the fight is done there is a moment when they talk alone, Mae try to get Osha on her side at certain point I though she had it but its really weird how they go back and forward changing sides specially Mae, at one point she abandon her master Qimir to join Osha but at the ends she cuts he hair after knocking down Osha to go back with Sol and pretend to be her sister, this makes me think that this was part of the plan all this time to infiltrate Sol and kill him.

Osha stays at Khofar, laying on the ground and hurt, Qimir is alive and picks up his things but when he finds Osha he heal her wounds and cover her up, probably he will try to make her join him. The last conversation Osha had with Sol he was about to tell her the "truth" probably of what happen to her mother, Qimir will use this on his advantage to try to convince her Sol lied to her and she was been use all this time.

    The Suspense Continues

So many questions arrise after episode five: - Who is Qimir master? - What is Qimir connection with Osha and Mae? - What is the truth that Sol is hiding from Osha? - Qimir trying to kill Mae part of their plan to kill Sol? - Why Qimir arms are all burn? was he there the day of the fire?
I like how the story keeps unfolding and for sure we are going to have a lot of flash backs since I would expect two if not three episodes of context and little action, incrementing the suspense. Now that Qimir identity has been reveal the story needs to keep the audience interested and intrigue about the backstory of this whole situation.

I really enjoy this episode, different that others it was full of action, I love the fight between Jecki and Qimir they were both stunning, there was a moment when Sol almost fall into his rage about to kill Qimir but this is plan of his plan or character, either kill every Jedi who was related to the day of the fire or kill the dream, have a Jedi join the dark side like Sol almost did before Osha stop him, not because she wanted to safe Qimir but because as she was once a Jedi Padawn she knows even during the worst moments a Jedi can not fall into rage or vengeance.

So far I give this series a 6.5, in a ladder of Star Wars TV series I would put The Accolyte at the very bottom but still not a bad series to watch and have a good time, never let others tell you if a series is worth watching before you watch it yourself, I get why the Star Wars fans are mad and they have the right to be, Disney has mess with the Lore basically committing sacrilege but thats no reason for a fresh new viewer to consider its a bad series or even a casual viewer to consider its not entertaining.

  4. The Acolyte (2024) - Episode 4: Day - RECAP@skiptvads728d

    Source

Episode 4 of The Acolyte had again another batch of background of how things went down with the Coven of Witches as the information becomes basically public at Coruscant at the Jedi Council, Sol and others who knew what happen can't hide it anymore but as we have seen before Master Sol does not know much of what really went down since he was busy trying to get to Osha during the entire accident. This serie is still not as good as any of the other Star Wars series, it almost feels like this is the Marvel Secret Invasion of Star Wars, not that it is that bad but certainly could be way better.

I have mention before how the series is more of a suspense series than action since it only gives short moments of action sequences but this time I think they just went too far with the ending of the episode at totally cutting off what seem to be the start of a battle, the mysterious Sith Master against six Jedi who he blow out with a single move of his hand using The Force.

I think the series is trying hard to make it obvious that the Sith Master is Qimir but then again it would be just too easy and probably that's what the series wants although at this point I have no idea who else could and at the same time have a lot of scenes and details that validate my suspicious that its Qimir. On this article I will go through a couple of thoughts and ideas of what is going on.

    Source

    Source

    The Episode's Opening

The episode kicks off with a scene on Khofar, where we see Kelnacca, the Wookiee Jedi, in his secluded hideout. The visuals here are pretty impressive with the dense forest and the sense of isolation really setting the mood. Kelnacca's hom made from the wreckage of a ship, adds a layer of mystery. Is it his ship or did he find it? The symbols on the walls, resembling yin yang drawings hint at the balance between the dark and light sides of the Force, a recurring theme in Star Wars. I would only guess that this symbols were draw by Kelnacca probably reflecting of what happen the day the Covenant of Witches were slaughter, some of the drawings are very similar also to the simbol Mae got on her forhead during the ceremony, either feeling guilty for wipe them out of not able to defend them assuming that all this time the Sith Master has been trying to get to the twins, keep in mind that the Twins are special and have a deep connection with The Force so why not weaponize them.

    The Jedi's Mission

Master Sol convience Vernestra Rwoh to let him go to Khofar look for Kelnecca and bring back Mae, at first she was not too sure of this but then decided its worth the risk as long as they keep it low profile. Before they left, Osha was already planing to get back to her regular life and take a ship out of Coruscant before Master Sol got to her and ask her to come with them to bring back Mae, Osha was expecting he was going to ask her to stay and once again train for Jedi but Sol turn her down real quick asking her to come to Khofar with him, Osha look very needy on this scene even telling him that she can feel her power coming back like she still wants to be a Jedi but what happen between her and Mae is still in between, same reason why she drop Jedi training the first time.

    Mae and Qimir's Quest

Jedi were not the only ones going to Khofar, there is also Qimir and Mae after Kelnacca, as we already know Mae target is to kill all Jedi who were there the day the Covenant of Witches was killed and she was left to die, that's her mission but specially the very specific way she has to do it, have a Jedi attack her first and she been without a weapon, a behavior that goes against the Jedi rules its probably like make a Jedi abandon his believe in a rage attack. Qimir still my number one candidate to be the Sith Master, he still acting the fool but cautiosly and gently keep pushing Mae to finish her task or the Sith Master will kill her, in a way trying to say I WILL KILL YOU!!! What I still don't get why is the Sith Master so fixed into having her kill all four Jedi, might be some sort of prophecy or as I mention potentially weaponize her power and turn her into the Dark Force.

Mae and Qimir figure out the Jedi and Osha are in Khofar and she start to have doubts about her tasks, either if she could complete it but what changes everything for her is that Osha is alive, yes she has some hate for Jedi but her sister is more important and decides to drop her Sith Training and get Jedi protection telling them everything she knows, well at least that was her plan before the Sith Master step up to the scene.

    Osha Development

On episode four Osha starts to develop this bond to both the Jedi that at first wanted to lock her down that's Yord and Jecki, at first during the episode before Osha goes she stop to say good bye to Jecki and how she will miss her and sometime would like to have a drink with her. Latter on when they get to Khofar she tells Yord that if he gets the chance and need to, kill Mae because she knows she wont be able to do it, this is right after he ask for the blaster back and Osha said no, Osha already failed at taking Mae down, she knows she cant.

Osha desperatly wants to be a Jedi and its kinda obvious that towards the end of the season she probably start her Jedi training again when she gets back with Mae, if the Sith Master has not kill her first. Osha told Master Sol how she is feeling her powers are getting back and probably when everyone needs her Osha will show up her powers, remember how the Twins are suppose to be special at using The Force, mostly when using it together.

    Sith Master

The identity of the Sith master is a major point of speculation. The episode drops several hints that it could be Qimir, but nothing is confirmed. His ability to switch between different personas and his knowledge of the dark side make him a prime suspect. The final scene, where the Sith master force-pushes the Jedi and prepares for battle, is a powerful moment that leaves us wanting more.

The identity of the Sith Master is still a mystery but I do have a lot of suggestions why is Qimir, during this episode he reminds Mae of every detail of her training, why does he knows so much about it? he mention before that he does not know the Sith Master personally when Master Sol and the other Jedi got to him on episode 2. He still acting the fool and even let Mae trap him probably to throw her off and make her think she is on control, lastly he had a lot of luggage when they arrive Khofar so whats on the bag? probably an armor and big Sith Helmet?? for last, the forest is suppose to be dangerous place and why Kelnecca got deep into the forest so how a weak guy like Qimir track Kelnecca down and got out of the forest alive??

    Political Powers

Its been mention many times online that the series does have some reference to movies and animated series and could connect to them in the future, often the Star Wars universe is build this way where its a going back and forward during the history. On episode four Vernestra told Sol they have to keep the high council out of this after they were discussing who is Mae master, for sure she has some training but still look weak, nobody in the room said a Sith train her, the only one speculating this is Sol. Vernestra decides to cover up this because the entire Sith Master with Mae could be leverage from a higher political power that would try to gain advantage by exposing Jedi like they are weak and cant be trusted the peace and security of the galaxy, a political strategic move so dark forces can gain more political power.

As time goes and I watch each episodes, recaps online and some reviews I'm starting to learn more about Star Wars, no intentions to be an expert or even impose my opinion of the subject but I have realize that at keeping everything a mystery the series actually spark that curiosity of an average viewer like me to figure out what is going on and how the series relate to other parts of the Star Wars Universe, from that point of view the series has been really good because its all about discovering who is this Sith Master since day one.

The action sequence, to be honest I'm very disappointed, specially on this episode when the get Kelnacca killed like its nothing and then stop the big fight right when it start leaving a big cliff hanger, I got mad to the point that I was laughing because I could not believe they troll everyone like that, we are only half way of the season so I hope from now on the series redeem itself on the action sequence department.

  5. The Acolyte (2024) - Episode 3: Destiny - RECAP@skiptvads736d
    Source

Third Episode of The Acolyte drop and it left everyone with even more questions than before, but one thing is for sure the entire coven didn't die because of the explosion. The episode with title "Destiny" most likely refer to the twins get separated, one destine to the dark side of the Sith and the other to the bright side of the Jedi.

The episode starts with a scene when the twins were very little, sixteen years in the past at the planet Brenda when everything started for Osha and Mae, it is on this scene for the first time that the tone for their differences is set very clearly, Mae always powerful and dominant while Osha more passive and free spirit, there is a second aspect that really intrigue me and its how Mae basically prohibit Osha from separating from her, some type of obsession, would it be possible their connection is the only reason why Mae is so good at using The Force?

Destiny, gives a lot of backdrop story that I was expecting to know from the series regarding the Coven of Witches and Mother Aniseya but as a none STAR WARS hard core fan there are plenty of this that I don't know, at first glance a regular viewer like me gets the hole witches scenario and its fine but there are more questions when you start to wonder from who are they hiding? where is the twins father? why there are witches of all over the galaxy? what does the ritual means? so I had to consult the internet for this post to have some more context than my simple understanding of what I was watching, the episode features numerous references to the ancient Night Sisters and their “thread of destiny,” suggesting that the Nightsisters and the Force are connected in some way to the broader Star Wars mythology.

There is an initiation ceremony prepared for Osha and Mae to become official members of the coven to what Osha didn't want to and Mother Aniseya would not force her to, but there were others like Mother Koril who probably had a different agenda, always trying to push the girls and be more traditional and disciplinary with them.

    The Coven's Dark Practices

After finding out that the Coven of Witches can turn out to be an extension or variant of the Night Witches a dark cult that uses The Force for dark practices makes me question why they had the twins in first place like what is their purpose on the Coven, Mother Aniseya and her lover Mother Koril start to talk about how the Jedi would not like how the girls were created and a very popular thing on Star Wars is cloning so that's my first though, they also mention the twins are powerful and I would think they are since Aniseya use The Force to create them, all this practices are prohibit by The Republic and the Jedi specially on kids, not probably because they are kids but they would suspect that behind a group like this having and teaching kids the use of the Force most of the time is for sinister purpose. The Jedi do live on this concept that only they are the ones using The Force for the right reasons when in fact this is very manipulative move cult type, this is why they would let the Coven do their thing as adults but no children to avoid passing this sinister practices to younger generations, this is another reason I could think of why the Twins are so important for the Coven.

    The Twins' Split Their Paths

During the ceremony we see the different sides of Mae and Osha, in the case of Mae she is all in follower of the coven traditions and their mother but in the case of Osha she doesn't want to stay on the planet for ever with them, she wants to go out and explore the galaxy thats the main reason when the Jedi arive she step front and wanted to go with them, wanted to be tested and latter on she tells her mother she wants to be a Jedi. Even though they are twins they do not behive like one and this is the nature of The Force, they were created using it so it comes with the same characteristics, one dark and another bright side, can't exist only one.

    The Jedi Intervention

When the Jedi arrive to Brenda its not clear why they did, probably they got an alert from someone letting them know about the girls since I doubt there are radars monitoring the use of The Force, all four Sol, Indara, Torbin and Kelnecca, at the time Torbin been Indara's padawan basically following orders, Indara is clearly the one calling the shots as Sol and Kelnecca follow. Aside from what went down between the Twins of not wanting the same thing there is a fire caused by Mae where she was clearly in some kind of trance of obsession and latter on multiple explosions with the entire Coven wipe out. Remember how Torbin before taking his life mention he though they were doing the right thing? this force me to think that they killed the Coven, Indara, Torbin and Kelnecca but Sol was not part of it since he was the one who went looking for the Twins while the other Jedi took care of the Coven, the mission was clear and the circumstances would never change the ending.

    The Tragedy Unfolds

Towards the end the episode kinda drive me mad with all the ambiguous incomplete scenes, director basically fucking with me like jejeje I know something you don't and wont let you watch like you are telling me that all that happen because Mae set a door on fire? reactor blowing up, all the witches dead the fortress they were living in basically turning apart. What were Indara, Torbin and Kelnacca were doing when all that went down? I'm on the camp that most likely while the twins were having an argument the Jedi had their own argument with the witches and someone decided to throw hands, or threads or light saber what ever their attack was, that probably why Torbin got a scar in the present day and before taking the poison tells Mae "I thought we were doing the right thing" because he was following Indara orders. There is this scene of tragedy in the air at the end of the episode, things should not get out of control and again probably why the three Jedi who had everything to do with are basically in exile if not in a corner of the galaxy like Indara in a cantina, Kelnacca isolated in a forest planet or Torbin who had 10 years without talking to anyone and meditating, on Episode 2 there is a scene where Sol told Jord, Mae was dead but with a certain doubt like he is hiding something, problem is he is basically lying his as because he does not know and he is only telling what probably Indara put on the report after their mission, he was not there when the Witches died and he only saw Mae fall but never really saw her dead body.

If the series is not as close to what OG Star Wars is at least its keeping the suspense alive, online reviews are basically trashing the series like its the worst TV series ever and to be honest if there is one thing the internet is good about is shitting on everybody else happiness. Are there things that are not related or as good as the traditional Star War movies, yes that totally true, there there a ton of empowering the women theme absolutely, the real question is "Is this TV series entertaining?" YES IT IS!!!

The story for sure is constantly interrupted and this might bother a certain type of audience but I'm the type of viewer who like to connect the dots and even be wrong about it or right, it doesn't matter to me, I have always thought that for something to be entertaining it has to generate a reaction, a felling that's either makes you mad or happy about it because it keeps my brain working, probably even enjoying what I'm watching.

The fight scenes have been very weak but I guess we will probably get one or two down the line, this action sequences are close to none so far except when Mae fights Sol and Indara and even then it was interrupted, its a suspense TV series not an action series and this is probably why people are so mad about it.

In my opinion if you are looking for an entertaining series with a good production, its not a Game of Thrones level but its a good one time watch, go watch The Acolyte.

  6. The Acolyte Episode 2 – Key Moments and Theories - RECAP@skiptvads741d
    Source

Today, I’m going into Episode 2 of the TV series Star Wars: The Acolyte, this episode with the title “Revenge/Justice” for the most part refers to what is Mae mission, we finally get to know why she is doing all after killing Master Indara, the episode does give some context to the story on all sides from the twin sisters to all the Jedi involve on the day their family was wipe out by the fire. The story goes on with May, who is on a quest to kill four Jedi whom she believes are behind the fire that burnt down her coven of witches and her sister Osha without knowning that in fact Osha is alive and wants justice for the fire because she thinks it was Mae, makes me think if someone setup Mae to cover up some dirt under their rug?. This creates a rather intricate plot where both sisters act based on their own definitions of right and wrong but most important from the story that they were told, they both have things confuse and who cause all this confusion? not only fight scenes and action are ramping up but the drama is also getting more interesting.

    Key Characters and Their Motivations

    Mae and Osha

Mae is on a mission of vengeance for what she believe happens during the fire, at this point since I don't know whats what I have to take this position of doubt although I'm starting to believe there is some truth behind Mae motives since the Jedi are not too clear on this. Mae visits Master Torbin who she try to fight but the Jedi Master has been silent meditating for the past 10 years, at first she tries to attack him but his force is too strong and she had to take another approach, give him an option, "the acoylite kills without weapon..." I'm starting to believe that The Acolyte makes reference to a demon or a trickster like Loki in the MCU, fucks with your mind just as she did with Indara distracting her and now did with Master Torbin.

Osha, however different than her sister Mae, is a character who is motivated by justice, she thinks that May caused the fire and is the only responsible for all the deaths but most important despite that happen when they were very little so far she had not come to peace with this thought and is reminded by her previous master, Master Sol, one of the reasons why she drop Jedi. Her goal is to prevent May from killing anyone else, at least that was the goal at the beginning of the episode. The relationship between the sisters also gives the story an emotional aspect as both are tortured by their past and their perceptions of what the other has done.

    Master Torbin

Master Torbin is hands down guilty, at least is the only Jedi so far that tells straight up to Mae's face that he was sorry for what happens when Mae visits him for a second time and instead of attacking him she gives him a poison from her home planet that he willingly takes and dies. His decision to remain silent and leave the community shows that he feels guilty for the disaster, his conversation with May is crucial, as it suggests that the Jedi who were involved in the fire may not be as pure as they seem. Torbin’s suicide shows his regret and the severity of the circumstances, he was lost right the moment after the fire and was probably waiting for this moment to face Mae. This is what tells me that there is some truth on Mae version, Jedi is about finding peace but based on the Sith this peace they talk about is an illusion.

    Qimir

Qimir character played by Manny Jacinto, is a smuggler who has a dark past a connection to Mae and who at first hand gives me the impression he knows more than he is telling. He seems to be helping both May and her Sith Master, which indicates that he has some connection to the main Sith plan, it is intriguing to me how he pretend to know Mae for some time and her Sith Master this tell me he has been with both in the past, has some connection to them but so far the impression that I have from Mae and the Sith relationship is that its distant and private how and why a guy like Qimir just a "smuggler" would know all this, right away this throw some red flags telling me that he might be the Sith Master himself who is using the Force to cover up Sith Aura, Jedi can detect when there is a Sith Master around, Qimir is the one I was mainly referring as Loki, the trickster because that's how he looks like, with his constant smile on his face, looking all silly but then also looking so innocent when Jedi Masters interrogate him on his "shop" about his connection with Mae.

    Key Scenes and Drama Unfold

    Mae’s Infiltration

The episode began with Mae who sneak into a Jedi Temple where her next target is, she manage to walk among the others in the temple without been notice indicating she is using the Force to cover up her Sith Aura, this is classic Sith tactics but they do find out there is an intruder because the caught the girl who help Mae distract the guard droid, probably doing something silly but she is not suppose to be inside neither who inmediatly talks when been interrogated. Mae intention on getting into the temple is to find Master Torbin and kill him but he is just too strong for her and no matter how much she tries to attack she cant get an inch close to him because of his Force field. She goes back to a local shop where Qimir is, he just took over this shop from a guy and is just acting the fool, the episode implies Mae ask him to make her a poison but the method on how to use it was suggested by Qimir, instead of trying to attack him give him an option.

    Master Torbin’s Death

Mae had two encounters with Master Torbin and this is probably the best part of the episode, at first she try to attack him directly but then came in offering him an option, a man full of guilt is giving the option to accept his crime and take the honorable path and die been responsible, all she had to do was talk to him, Torbin immediately drop his Force field and took the poison that Mae gave him without questioning. This act by Torbing a very well respected Jedi within the community shows possibly how much the four Jedi involve on the incident are some what guilty, two down and two left to go. Mae quest is to kill four Jedi to satisfy her master and continue her quest, this are most likely the four Jedi involve on the fire incident, not sure if to call it an incident at this point, the four masters are Indara, Torbin, Sol and Kelnecca.

    The Wookie Jedi Master

After everything is set and done, Master Sol, Yord and Jecki arrive Olega with Osha, they are after Mae who have been seen there. They came up with a plan after getting a hold to Qimir who without a doubt throw Mae under the bus telling the Jedi only "what he knows" but Mae manage to escape them too, she is very well trained, this shows how killing Indara was not pure luck because most would say her two kills were just too easy but we need to give her credit too for what she has accomplish so far. The last Jedi I mention was Kelnacca, a Wookie Jedi who also decided to go into exile suggesting that this master also has to do with the fire, Qimir has locate the Jedi for Mae and they now on their way to kill their next target. On the trailer there were some scenes of Mae and her Sith Master on the forest so I guess on the next episode we will see them together after or before attacking Kenacca.

Episode 1 was not much to be honest although episode 2 is starting to turn it up for the series and this is what I was expecting, with the lies and cover up from some of the Jedi. I remember when Yord finds out about Osha twin sister Master Sol intermediately told him about her death and how he was so sure about this, that HE saw her but this was a lie or he did not try hard enough to really find out if she was dead, so was it really guilt or incompetence from the four Jedi master involve on this story? are they really guilty for the fire or they just assume nothing could be done and let them die at that point? the Covenant Witches are not well seen by the Jedi from what I have been able to find online, they also use the Force but from what I could find they are in a grey area between Sith and Jedi, probably causing some Jedi to think if they are not on the same path then they are not worth saving? The appearance and reveal of who is Mae Sith Master is a big part of the drama that is just starting to unfold same goes for the difference in point of views from the twin sisters of who really cause the fire, on episode two when they finally see each other Osha had a blaster and intentionally miss her show and let Mae go, when Mae sees Osha she calls her Oshy, cute nickname that only a sister for of love for the other would still use.

  7. The Acolyte Episode 1: Key Moments and Discovering its Past@skiptvads744d
    Source

The first episode of "Star Wars: It is a prequel of an unknown series and the show is filled with interesting details and references that suggest a lot of potential for the actual series. This is a show set in the High Republic timeline, 100 years before the events of ‘The Phantom Menace’ and it gives a new angle to the Star Wars universe. The first episode might look a bit plain and simple to most, fight scenes ending may be too quick, but rather than a full action sequence episode is more about the backstory they went with on the first episode instead of spreading it through a few more.

    Source

    Setting the Pace

The episode opens with a cryptic statement: "The Jedi live in a dream. An acolyte kills the dream." This sets a dark tone right from the start. The High Republic era is described as a time of peace and prosperity for the Jedi and the Galactic Republic, but there are hints of tensions and threats behind scenes where no one is looking at the moment.

The show is set approximately 100 years before "The Phantom Menace," placing it in a period where the Jedi are at peak of their power with probably thousands of them around the Galaxy. Yoda is the Grand Master of the Jedi Council and other familiar characters are also around. Since Ashoka I have been trying to understand more the sequence on how things happen despite I haven't seen all the animated series but this series look to explore the events leading up to the rise of the Sith and the eventual fall of the Jedi from my understanding been that they were at peak power while on other productions its backwards, example during the Mandalorian latest TV series, not many Jedi around.

    Main Characters and Plot

The central characters in this episode are twin sisters, May and Osha. May was taken by the Jedi to train at the temple while Osha was left behind assuming she was dead, but was really the case because when Jord talks about her with Master Sol on the Ship, that does not seem to be the case, Master Sol look concern like they are about to uncover something he is hiding under the rug although Jedi are suppose to be pure, none the less the episode reveals that Mae is alive and Osha has a vision of them in a forest, just learning about her sister's survival.

May and Osha were born to a coven of Force witches, led by their biological mother, Mother Anasia, the sisters share a unique Force connection that can be described as a yin yang relationship with May leaning towards the dark side and Osha towards the light, that sets up an inevitable conflict between the two.

    High Republic Context

The story is develop around the times of The High Republic era, some where between 500 and 100 years before "A New Hope" and this series takes place about 100 years before "The Phantom Menace", I had to look this up to make some sense to me like where is this series standing at??!! This time line is specially identify by the Jedi's peak political influence and power with thousands of Jedi active across the galaxy, however, political enemies and long term Sith plans are already in motion, aiming to bring about the Jedi's downfall, its not through brute force that Jedi become rare in the future rather than pure political power, not even Star Wars escape from its corruption.

    Key Moments of First Episode

    The Opening Title

The episode starts with an opening title that’s not quite a traditional Star Wars crawl but serves a similar purpose. It uses the standard blue Star Wars title contrasting with the Sith red used in the Ahsoka series, the title sets the stage for the series, highlighting the peace and prosperity of the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic while hinting at the return of the Sith.

    The Fight Scene

One of the standout moments in the episode is the fight between Mae and Jedi Master Indara, played by Carrie Anne Moss, how could they kill her so fast and easy?. The fight is very Matrix like with intense hand to hand combat enhanced by the Force, keep in mind the Force runs over time, its not something they can use or keep using when ever they want, they also run out of it as become tired. Mae uses a bartender to distract Indara a very ship shot expected from a Sith type and kills her with a knife that I wonder if it was any special knife or could had some sort of poison since it didn't look going that deep and very small, so how Indara fall so fast after been stab?

    Force Visions and Connections

Osha has Force visions of her sister and comes to the conclusion that her sister is alive and could be the only reason how someone looking just like her could have killed Indara and why now in front of Jedi Jord she is the murder they looking for. Knowing that Mae is alive and the fact that Osha is having this visions that connect them through time and space, because lets consider when Osha had the vision Mae was not inducing this images to her, there is certain connection that just came alive probably because of the situation Osha is going through. This kind of connection between the sisters make the story more interesting as we can now only start to imagine what could happen if they battle each other using the force? could they know their attacks or read each other mind?

    Source
    Source

    Jedi Temple and The Force

We also get to visit Jedi Temple where we are introduced to Master Sol a character portrayed by Lee Jones. During the first scene he is training young seedlings and he talk about the eyes being deceiving, this could be in advance of what visions can do to a Jedi from trick his mind and take him through the wrong path, another detail that got my attention is how within the temple Jedi like Sol use the force to things like opening doors or deactivating cell doors, I wonder if this would be for pure security reasons or as a constant training for their powers, same as an athlete might use weights on his ankles to walk on his daily routine and become stronger, Jedi might use the force daily to stay strong?? the more I look a this details the more I wonder as I'm not someone who knows much about Star Wars and is full of questions.

    The Sith at the ending

The final scene of the episode features a Sith master with a changed voice that for my understanding is new to the entire Star Wars plus I have never seen in the past, the short cape with the odd helmet shape, which leaves much room for interrogates. This character has a crucial role in the development of both Mae and the main Sith’s plan to defeat the Jedi throughout the series but my biggest question and also the most obvious one is that he/she is the Sith who train Mae and now she is hunting down Jedi to build her own red light saber although there is that quote again "Acolyte kills without a weapon" considering that in order to be consider armed you need to have a light saber while Mae only had her knifes, in the first place this is why Indora refuse to fight her "Jedi do not attack the unarmed".

"Star Wars: The Acolyte” Episode 1 sets the tone for the series and decided to go with a full backdrop history of what happen in the past, which gives the audience a hint into the High Republic period and the events that occurred prior to the emergence of the Sith. The episode has connections to the larger Star Wars universe from the Phantom Menace, reference of how Master Sol and Osha are very similar to Qui-Gon Jinn and ObiWan Kenobi relationship. Mae and Osha are two complex and interesting characters and their story will be undoubtedly at the focus of the series.

It is going to be interesting to observe how as the series progresses certain secrets start to emerge as it is just too curious and interesting that Mae was alive and nobody including Master Sol did not know about it, he even mention she saw her dead, all these aspects evolve and tie into the broader story that is ahead. I am not that impressed with the first episode since for the most part we got flashbacks and bit of context of what had happen between Osha and the court but I am anxious to see the next episodes of the show to see how it unfolds.

Again keep in mind that I'm not expert on the subject and I'm just putting out my opinion as a regular viewer, no reason to think that I'm correct in every single word I mention through this post.
