Stargate

If you are stuck home due to the Covid19 and stay at home rules, you may want to consider watching Stargate Series. It is a science fiction media franchise that consists of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe.

Unlike more known sci-fi media franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek, Stargate isn't as popular. However, I find Stargate more entertaining the others for two reasons: humor and storyline.

Stargate started with its SG-1 series that consists of 10 seasons. Each season is about 18-20 episodes. That is a lot of tv time. While the main storyline persists each episode can be entertaining have its own unique story without knowledge of a bigger scope of things. I generally do like sci-fi genre without much regard to scientific accuracy. What makes Stargate series great is its subtle humor. It reminds of sitcoms with a sci-fi storyline.

The first series, Stargate SG1 has been a great success with 10 seasons. Next came Stargate Atlantis with 5 seasons. While SG-1 is great, I think the Atlantis series is much better. Stargate started failing when it came to its last attempt to continue the franchise with Stargate Universe. It only lasted 2 seasons, and that was the end of it.

I think a big win for Stargate all along has been the integration of comedy, and they have done a great job with both SG-1 and Atlantis series. However, they failed to continue the same strategy with Stargate Universe. That's why I believe, it didn't last as long as the previous series.

This is not necessarily a review of the series, but rather a suggestion for those who enjoy a good sci-fi with a combination of comedy. I can guarantee each episode of SG-1 or Atlantis will make you laugh at least once.

The main storyline is that there was an advanced human race before the current day humans who build an incredible civilization and reached the highest technological advancements. Among their innovations was the Stargate, a circular structure that creates wormholes between two Stargates and makes it possible to travel instantaneously among planets and galaxies that are thousands of light-years away. This race is called Ancients, aka Gate Builders. There are also other advance alien races line Asgard, Nox, Furlings, etc. Ancients seem to be the most advanced race at their time.

Present-day humans, most like the descendants of the Ancients, discover two stargates on Earth and start their journey discovering our galaxy and others. Of course, every story has villans. In SG-1 main villain, the race is an alien race called Goa'uld, snake-like creatures that take humans as hosts. After the time of ancients, Goa'uld take reigns over humans proclaiming themselves as Gods and enslaving humans in multiple planets.

Stargate Atlantis presents a different villain alien race called Wraith. The Wraith an evolution of bugs and humans to beings that survive on feeding on humans with placing their palms on them and suck their life out. This race happens to live in the Pegasus galaxy and defeated Ancients there.

In conclusion, both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis are a great series to watch and be entertained. If you like sci-fi with a combination of comedy, I am sure you will enjoy them. Since both have many seasons and are equally as entertaining, I would suggest watching Stargate Atlantis first.
