Strong Girl Nam-Soon (2023) || Sub-Par At Best?@jhymi798d

I’d heard a lot about the series I’m about to review. Some were fairly good and others not so much. Not being one to be swayed by reviews of the crowd, I decided to watch it myself and decide whether or not the reviews I got were spot-on. I know I decided not to watch series in this genre for a while but let’s just get to how this one went.

Strong Girl Nam-Soon (2023)

Strong Girl Nam-Soon is a 2023 South Korean television series starring Lee Yoo-mi in the title role, along with Kim Jung-eun, Kim Hae-sook, and other renowned Korean actors. The series is a spin-off to the 2017 series Strong Girl Bong-soon, which although the main characters aren’t exactly related, they are still closely joined in the same mutant-strength universe.

Summary of the Series

Gang Nam Soon(Lee Yoo Mi) has superhuman strength which has been passed to the women of her family for generations. But she goes missing as a kid in Mongolia. Years later she’s back to Seoul, South Korea to find her parents. She eventually gets to reunite with her mother, Hwang Geum-Joo, an extremely wealthy woman who lives in Gangnam and strives to live righteously and do good deeds with the hope that she will find her lost daughter.

With the reunion of Nam-Soon with her family, including her grandmother, Gil Joong-Gan who shares the same superhuman strength, they somehow get involved in a deadly drug case and together with Kang Hee-Sik, a detective also working on the case, they seek to eliminate this wide-sweeping evil. Can truth, love and above all family triumph?

My Review and Rating

Okay, if you’ve watched the original series, Strong Girl Go Bong-soon, you would agree with me that this was a highly anticipated series. It’s just sad to see that it fell incredibly short. In a lot of ways. I don’t have the least to greatest noticeable faults but I’ll try to bring the few ones I can all together.

I wasn’t so smiley seeing who the protagonist was at her adult age but I was determined to roll with it if she wasn’t needlessly childish and annoying. There’s this desperation I see in a lot of Korean series for the protagonist to be cuter than necessary. And in the case of Nam Soon, it was overdone. She’s a grown woman so the need to act childish and cute when tackling serious events didn’t endear her to me in the least. It’s not something I like to do but I found myself skipping some parts.

Then there’s the overdose of the mother. At some point, I asked myself why the movie was named after the daughter if the mother would get more than sixty percent of screen time. I feel like the series would have thrived more if she was made a secondary character as intended, likewise the grandmother. But they appeared in far too many scenes until I started losing sight of what the series was all about.

There were too many side-plots and unnecessary scenes that failed to add anything substantial to the drama as a whole. I get the usual comic sounds and play at comedy that is typical for Korean Drama but this one fell short for me. The gluttonous brother and spineless (literally) Uncle while enjoyable in the first few episodes, became less funny with the constant repetition. Sub-par to a fault.

And can we please talk about chemistry?? Which, might add both the male and female leads did a terrible job at. We all know that you can see a max of two or if you’re lucky, three kissing scenes in an entire series but somehow, that slow burn is endearing and we get to squeal in delight when it eventually happens. My eyes, brethren, practically glazed over in boredom watching them because there was no chemistry from beginning to end. Everything felt so stuff from their end and frankly, her Grandmother and her barista love interest had way more chemistry than the protagonist’s.

I think the most depressing part about the series is with the villain, whose acting I found charming. Way more charming than the main lead. This is not a “I love villains” tale but I genuinely feel like he could have been treated better. A Russian Mafia all right but he opened up to her and had an excellent back story that while didn’t justify his action, made him seem more humane and the “goddess of kindness” which is Nam Soon didn’t empathize with him till the last moment that made it seem cruel and unrealistic to me.

There was an overdose of renowned actors and it felt like they didn’t know what to do with them so they just placed them everywhere. The acting was superb on the part of the secondary characters but I just disliked how forced everything felt to me. The ending was so anticlimactic, I was genuinely surprised. It felt so carelessly done, so low-effort, I was grateful to be over it. I feel disappointed that it didn’t live up to expectations but it’s one of those things.

Giving Strong Girl Nam-Soon a 6/10 stars. There was an open kind of ending that promises a sequel but I think I’ll pass on that.

This took a longer while than I thought it would with the mind I had after the last episode... "I'm definitely reviewing this series". One of those series you see and you just give a smile at the end, feeling satisfied and asking for more if there could be an extension.

I saw this series weeks after it aired and a lot of people were talking about it. I had this thought it wouldn't be so much of a difference from the series "Strong woman Bong-soon" but it turned out that I thought it wrongly.

Even if you've seen Strong woman Bong-soon which I want to believe a lot of us enjoyed, you still need to see this one. The storylines are different in many ways that you'd love and not feel any dejavu except one scene which I find remarkable and thoughtful of the script writers.

Strong Girl Nam-soon is a 16 episodes series released in the year 2023 starring really amazing characters that has left good impressions on their viewers with their acting skills. Before this series, I knew only three of the supporting casts and so, the whole casting of the series was a lot more refreshing than expected.

The storyline of the series goes like... A young girl with a supernatural strength who got separated from her parents and had to grow in another country decides to find her parents using her strength. Before she found them, there was an impersonator, she met with a cop who through him she got involved in a drug case. Leading her to deciding a future for her powers to help people.

The series show really interesting characters that a review won't be complete without mentioning their roles one after the other. So check out these daring characters and also find out more about the series I'm recommending, a highly recommended.

The Daring Characters In The Series.

The daring Gang Nam-soon starred by Lee Yoo-mi who is the lead character, the main focus in the series. I'm surprised to know she actually starred in the popular kdrama "Squid Game". She has superhuman strength, got involved with a drug case and fell in love with a cop. What makes her really outstanding in this series, maybe it is thanks to her super strength, is that she can be very daring and bold even in the face of danger. I like how she formed a very good rapport with the villain in the storyline, it's simply just what is expected of her.

The daring Kang Hee-sik starred by Ong Seong-wu who is the second lead character, a korean actor I never knew until this series. He is a very diligent and honest cop who meets a girl with super strength, fell in love with her and they both work on a drug case together. His role in the series is really memorable especially the scenes where he had to go in disguise to investigate regarding the case. He brought in good comedy with his gender swap and dance scenes lol.

The daring and full of vibe Hwang Geum-ju starred by Kim Jeong-eun, my favourite character if were to choose just one from all of them. I've never seen her star in any series until this one but I'm curious to see more of her. She is the young mother of Nam-soon, got super strength too and has made a whole lot of wealth in her name and even in her family's name with her low IQ brain. She decides to use her strength and influence alongside her daughter to bring the bad guys to justice.

The daring and handsome Ryoo Si-oh starred by Byeon Woo-seok, talk of a villain you love more than the main character. I still can't get my mind off the scene where he asked Nam-soon out on a date. A villain in love with someone out to get him, it's definitely a sweet sight to see. Even though it didn't end well for him as it should be, his role in the series is outstanding.

I won't end this without mentioning the super strong grand mother and the special appearance of Bong-soon and her lovely husband. Their roles filled up any space left for a wholesome experience for viewers. The grannie role of not letting her age play out with her powers and her beautiful new found love in a batista gave us something to feel light in the series.

Of course, Bong-soon special appearance came with some touches from their main series which I find to be a sweet extra for viewers.

For all that many more reasons, I'll rate the series 9/10 very highly recommended. Let me know if you've seen the series already or you're yet to.

Hello dear Hive community, I hope you are doing great and as always it's a pleasure to share some reviews of the series or movies I watch, right now I want to talk about a Korean drama called "Namsoon A Super Strong Girl" which I want to do it without spoilers but I need to talk about some plot points.

Hola querida comunidad de Hive, espero se encuentren muy bien y como siempre es un placer compartir algunas reseñas de las series o películas que veo, en este momento quiero es hablarles de un drama Coreano llamado “Namsoon Una Chica Súper Fuerte” la cual quiero hacerlo sin spoiler pero necesito hablar sobre algunos puntos de la trama.

This is a dorama which is on Netflix and ended recently, it is said to be the second season of Strong Woman Do Bong-soon which has the same profile that the girl is super strong, but in reality it can be said that they are different stories only that in one episode the protagonists of the other dorama make a cameo, among the actors that we can get this Lee Yoo-mi (Gang Nam-soon), Byeon Woo-seok (Ryu Si-oh), Ong Seong-wu (Gang Hee-sik), Kim Jung-eun (Hwang Geun-joon) among other great authors.

Este es un dorama el cual se encuentra en Netflix y finalizo hace poco, se dice que es la segunda temporada de Strong Woman Do Bong-soon a cual tiene el mimo perfil de que la muchacha es súper fuerte, pero en realidad se puede decir que son historias diferentes solo que en un episodio los protagonistas del otro dorama hacen un cameo, entre los actores que podemos conseguir esta Lee Yoo-mi (Gang Nam-soon), Byeon Woo-seok (Ryu Si-oh), Ong Seong-wu (Gang Hee-sik), Kim Jung-eun (Hwang Geun-joon) entre otros grandes autores.

The story is about Gang Nam-soon who is a girl with super strength, which is inherited by the women in her family over the generations but it turns out that one tragic day she gets lost in Mongolia, being lost for several years while she has her parents looking for her by the way her mother is too rich so she holds a strength contest every year. She arrives in South Korea looking for her family, getting her and then getting involved with her family in the world of drugs.

La historia va de Gang Nam-soon la cual es un niña con súper fuerza, la cual es heredada por las mujeres de su familia a lo largo de las generaciones pero resulta que un día trágico se pierde en Mongolia, estando varios años perdida mientras que tiene a sus padres buscándola por cierto su madre es demasiado rica por eso hace un concurso de fuerza todos los años. Ella llega a Corea del Sur buscando a su familia, consiguiéndola para después involucrarse con su familia en el mundo de las drogas.

I consider that this dorama has its good and bad things, personally it always bothered me a little that they compared it a lot with its predecessor Strong Woman Do Bong-soon saying that they had more expectation that it looked like her, but as I have not seen that dorama I do not get to compare them what I can say without commenting many spoilers as such is that I feel that they deviated a lot in the main theme of the story plus that derives to that the protagonist did not feel the protagonist.

Considero que este dorama tiene sus cosas buenas y malas, en lo personal siempre me molesto un poco de que lo comparaban mucho con su antecesora Strong Woman Do Bong-soon diciendo que tenían más expectativa a que se pareciera a ella, pero como no me he visto ese dorama no los llegue a comparar lo que si puedo decir sin comentar muchos spoilers como tal es que siento que se desviaron mucho en el tema principal de la historia además de que eso se deriva a que la protagonista no se sentía la protagonista.

As such, the story has 16 chapters, it can be said that the first five chapters are quite interesting, but when Nam-soon meets his mother, things become a little slower and the focus is on his mother, who seems to be the main character instead of Nam-soon, and the attitude that he was made to take sometimes was heavy.

Como tal la historia cuenta con 16 capítulos se puede decir que los primeros cinco son bastante interesantes ya cuando se puede decir que Nam-soon se encuentran con la madre como que la cosa se torna un poco mas lenta además de que centra mucho la atención en su madre pareciendo ella la protagonista en vez de Nam-soon, por otro lado la actitud que le hicieron tomar a veces caía pesada.

On the other hand one of the reasons why I ended up watching the dorama was because of the villain since many of us empathized with his story even though it doesn't justify his actions but it does make the character seem more interesting to you (of course taking away the fact that many of us shisped Namsoon with him) but well I feel that in scripting issues they dedicated more depth to Ryu than to the male protagonist of the dorama who is a cop and was Namsoon's love interest, On the other hand, their relationship, even though it's not forced, it's not like they developed it much, making it a pity because it was very few times that one felt that connection with them as a couple.

Por otro lado una de las razones por la que termine de ver el dorama fue por el villano ya que muchos empatizamos con su historia aunque eso no justificara sus acciones pero si hace que te parezca el personaje más interesante (claro quitando el hecho de que muchos shispeabamos a Namsoon con él) pero bueno siento que en temas de guion se dedicaron en hacerle más profundidad a Ryu que al mismo protagonista masculino del dorama el cual es un policía y era el interés amoroso de Namsoon, que por otro lado su relación a pesar de no verse forzada no es como que la desarrollaran mucho haciendo que sea una pena ya que era muy pocas veces que uno sentía esa conexión con ellos como pareja.

Another negative point I see is how they ridiculed most of the men, I know it is a progressive dorama but I feel it made it feel more like a satire than anything else, in conclusion Namsoon a super strong girl is a comedy mixed with action and that if it entertains enough, it may have its weak points as the end that the truth that I expected another resolution but it has on its side that serves to pass the time, I would give it a 7/10.

Otro punto negativo que le veo es como ridiculizaban a la mayoría de los hombres, sé que es un dorama progresista pero siento que hacía que se sintiera mas que todo como una sátira, en conclusión Namsoon una chica súper fuerte es una comedia mezclada con acción y que si entretiene bastante, puede tener sus puntos flojos como el final que la verdad esperaba otra resolución pero tiene de su lado que sirve para pasar el rato, le daría un 7/10.
