This film, released in 2016, is one of my favorites because it tells a story based on true events to such an extent that the viewer connects with the main character. This feature is key in films directed by Clint Eastwood, a movie legend.

This film production is very well done telling a story that grabs you from the first moment with a plane crash that reminded me a lot of the painful experience lived with the twin towers, only in this case, it turns out to be a dream.

    078651.png

For me, Tom Hanks performance was on point throughout. I was very impressed to see his performance, which was so much like that of Captain Sully. I mean that he kept his cool at all times without bursting off his nerves or screaming his head off at whoever he was next to because of the stressful situation he was in.

Seeing that calm and tranquility in the middle of a great storm of stress was what caught me immediately and made me admire this peculiar captain. And the fact is that the feat that this man accomplished in real life is not capable of anyone else, only him and his natural talent for flying.

    408767.png

Another aspect that characterizes this film is that it does not cover such an elaborate or intrinsic theme, it is just the story of an ordinary man who knew how to do his job well at a time when the chances of coming out of it unscathed were minimal.

For this reason, this film may be tedious to many, as it focuses more on what happened after the event. A trial was conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board, who were in charge of conducting a thorough investigation of what happened on January 15, 2009.

    279091.png

I was perplexed to see the heroic feat this man performed to be prosecuted for something he did exceptionally well. Throughout the film, I could feel many emotions as the drama and suspense-filled scenes added up.

And every time this movie is shown on TV, I don't hesitate to watch it again because I enjoy it as much as if I were watching it the first time. For my part, I give it its well-deserved:

    RangoPelis2025 (1).gif

Before I say goodbye, I want to add that although this movie didn't exactly take place in New York, I understand that it was shot in New York and Atlanta, Georgia. It shows some scenes from the Big Apple (I guess 😅).

Receive all a cordial greeting, friends today I come to share with you a movie that I really liked based on real events.

The movie is called: Sully: Hudson's Feat. It falls into the genres of Drama and Biography, The actors in the cast of this film are Tom Hanks playing the role of Sully and Aaron Eckhart playing the role of Jeff, which is the one I liked the most of the two, you can see that he had a lot of fun with this character.

    Bonus Fact

This movie was nominated for many awards, which one of them is the Oscar Award for Best Sound Editing in the year 2017, competing with these movies The Arrival, Deep Horizon, Until the Last Man, La La Land: A Love Story, You can read more about this article here

I will show you a small summary and my opinion of why I recommend you to see this movie.

    Fuente / Source

    The beginning of the movie.

From the very beginning of the movie, we are introduced to this story in a way that when we watch it we are hooked, and it makes us want to see more, and to know what happened in a crash of such a large passenger plane in the middle of a city.

The weight carried by the captain.

Despite the fact that our captain achieved something impossible, we see how everything he lived through in this accident, he doubts the decisions he made, causing him a lot of fatigue and stress in his life, having nightmares and bad sleep. Everyone has their eyes on him, where many consider him a hero and others that he was the mistake, having to live while all this happens in a hotel guarded by police forces.

    Fuente / Source

    His flying partner.

Jeff despite all that was experienced, he is the more relaxed of the two, defending his captain and best friend in everything, supporting him until the end.

We see how in every interview and in the investigation he is relaxed and calm so as not to give in to so much pressure, as many want them to say they were responsible for that mistake.

    The Accident Investigation.

Despite the fact that our captain achieved something impossible, the people in charge of the case contradict both of them for the decisions they made, wanting both of them to take responsibility for what happened.

Since they have proven in simulations and with data analysis that they could have returned and landed the plane at the airport, and not where they did.

    Fuente / Source

    Conclusion.

Personally I loved the movie, it has an excellent control of scene changes and their timing, it is not confusing, you understand everything at the first time, the acting of both protagonists is excellent, it hooks you into the story.

It is based on a real life event, whose captain's real name is the same as our protagonist's, simply incredible how he had the coolness and skill to have made the right decision and save so many lives, both the passengers and the city itself, and prevent this accident from being a disaster.

Not only that, but his experience and intelligence made it so that in his trial, even though everything was against him, he managed to achieve victory.

The film honors this story, despite knowing from the beginning how it ends and what it is about, you do not stop watching it until the end, the performance of Tom Hanks as Sully is a great tribute to this captain, who in real life achieved this feat.

    Fuente / Source

If you like these kinds of movies, I definitely recommend it, the direction of the director is accurate and its pace is not slow, but not fast, it takes its time to show every detail of the film.

The technology helps a lot and is important, but as our captain says when facing something unknown, the human factor at the time of a surprise, like that, surpasses any simulation and any artificial intelligence.

You can watch the official trailer here:

The movie lasts 1 hour and 36 minutes and I really enjoyed watching it, it had a critical acclaim of 85% and audience acceptance of 84%, according to the most used website Rottentomatoes.

You can see more about this article in its official page.

The film is available on Netflix

Thank you very much for taking the time to watch and read this post. If you were looking for an excuse to watch this movie, you have to see it, I recommend it.

  3. Sully: A reasonably good film that could've been a short@netflixr1706d

Clint Eastwood is a fantastic director, this much is for certain. I didn't really even know that this film existed until recently and I am a little ashamed to admit that the event it is referring to is something that somehow I didn't even know about until this movie was made. I guess I wasn't paying attention to world events back in 2009.

    image.png src

The film is about a crash landing that had to take place in New York City in 2009 where because of birds flying into the engines the airplane lost power and it was by the quick decision-making skills of Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger that something horrendous didn't happen to the 155 people on board the plane. They landed in the Hudson river in what has to be one of the few successful water landings in history.

    image.png src

    What's good

The recreation of the crash landing from multiple angles is extremely realistic which is a bit surprising considering that the total budget of this film was under $60 million and you would have to imagine that a lot of that probably had to be paid to the film's star, Tom Hanks.

Tom and his co-star Aaron Eckhart (who honestly isn't in enough movies IMO) do a fantastic job of portraying courage under pressure and they were the correct choices for the roles of pilot and co-pilot. I don't know what Sully is like in real life, but Tom's presentation of him as a caring, devoted, intelligent pilot who is still mild-mannered is wonderfully done and this was right up Tom's alley as far as roles are concerned.

    [src](https://media.cntraveler.com/photos/57d02c8cc69c03020b6e99e8/16:9/w_1280,c_limit/sully-movie-cr-courtesy.jpg)

In fact, there are only a few actors in the entire lineup that I would say did a poor job and they are people that we have never heard of and are unlikely to ever hear of as well.

They also do a good job of pacing because the actual event that can be considered "action" in this movie was over pretty fast so they had to be a bit stingy with the actual footage of the crash and still make this movie 90 minutes long. But that kind of leads me to the obvious 2nd part of this writeup

    What's bad

Unfortunately there is only so much dragging out of a story that took place over the course of 90 seconds that can be represented on-screen and at times it really starts to feel like you just want them to "get on with it already." This movie could have easily been a short film done in 20 minutes but I suppose they wouldn't have been able to take it to theaters and have a global box office take of over 240 million dollars.

While they do a good job of mixing it up and the story is not linear but rather, jumps around to before, during, and after the crash in a Pulp Fiction type way, there are times that I felt that they were dragging this out for the sake of having it be long enough to put it in cinemas.

    [src](https://photo.kidzworld.com/images/201697/5b1c48c7-dee2-41f5-9e77-c0682a2a2a02/sully-tom-hanks.jpg)

There is probably 12 minutes of the film that is spent on watching Sully go jogging and even though I am exaggerating, when it happens the 5th time you can't help but feel like they were desperately searching for filler to make it to the requisite 90 minute mark that is expected of most films.

Also, as I mentioned before there are a few bad actors in the cast and the main one that I am thinking of is the flight-control-tower guy who gets overly emotional and even has tears streaming down his face before they even know what has happened to the plane.

[src](https://miro.medium.com/max/1000/1*Ujji-4el2iVV3BQPsMe5vg.png) I have no idea what this guy's name is but he took overacting to another level in this

There are a few other people in the film that were apparently trying to make the most of their few minutes on screen to try to make a name for themselves in their bit roles that went too far with the acting, but whoever the above person is certainly takes the cake.

    Should I watch it?

Despite the few misgivings that I detailed above I still feel as though this is a good way to spend 90 minutes on the sofa. It is a pretty special story after all and I don't know if I was just not paying attention back in 2009, but I can't believe that this wasn't bigger news than it was. Maybe it is just me. Overall I think that most people will probably enjoy this film and it looks realistic as can be despite the fact that it is obviously all CGI. New York City is probably a bit sensitive about low-flying planes after all.

    going-direct-sully.jpg

  5. Sully-Netflix Blu-ray review--Tom Hanks as Everyman Hero@mctiller3055d

Tom Hanks can play the regular everyman hero like no one else.

Tom Hanks plays Chelsey Sullenberger the real life pilot of US Airways flight 1549 that had to land on the Hudson River.

Sully, written and directed by Clint Eastwood, is based on the January 15, 2009 incident where the plane he was flying was hit by a flock of birds that destroyed both engines causing Sullenberger to land the plane in the middle of the Hudson River.  The movie is based on the book Highest Duty, Sullenberger’s autobiography Highest Duty.

The movie begins with the airplane in the middle of the crash landing.  The tension of the movie comes the investigation into the crash in the immediate days after.  Most people did not there was the pressure from the insurance company to find out if Sully had the chance to land the airplane at an airport.  Sully realizes that the investigation is trying to find out if the incident was due to pilot error which could end his career.  “A million passengers delivered and I am going to be judged on 208 seconds,” he laments to his First Officer.

    Getting grilled.

Eastwood cuts back and forth between the airplane flight, the investigation, and phone calls with his wife, played Laura Linney.  Eastwood also cuts away and shows a father with his grown sons as they barely make the flight, and then are split up.  The family is separated during the incident as one son is in the back of the plane.  They reconnect via phone after the landing, with one son in New Jersey, and the father and other son in New York.  Eastwood uses these cutaways to bring more human touches to the movie.

And he needs to do this, because in terms of subject matter there is not a lot here.  The landing was very well know.  Sully and the plane’s crew did a tour of national media, visiting David Letterman at one point.  The entire flight lasted 208 seconds, and all the passengers were rescued within 24 minutes.  But Eastwood has to tell a story that last 90 minutes or 5400 seconds.  The movie last nearly three times longer than the actual event.  That’s weakness of the film.  Eastwood needs to revisit the crash many times in what begins to fill like filler.

We know that Sully is stressed and scared that he almost crashed the plane with 155 souls on board.  But he didn’t.  How many times does that need to be shown?

Tom Hanks is a near perfect Sully.  A quiet everyday man that goes about doing his job without fanfare or praise.  But then his quiet dedication to his job ends up making him a hero, much like his character from Saving Private Ryan.

Aaron Eckhart is excellent as First Officer Jeff Skiles.  Laura Linney is great as Sully’s wife.  And look for the actual flight passengers and Sully himself in footage during the closing credits.

    Final Thoughts

Tom Hanks is solid in this movie.  Check this out from Netflix for a compelling behind the scenes story of the incident that brought Americans together for a brief moment.
