Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing great today. This time I want to share a new review with you. I'm going to talk about an anime that was a total surprise, it's the series: Summertime Render... I watched it the moment it premiered, and I remember it went by very rarely, but it's great that I gave it a chance... it's one of those rare gems that grabs you from the first second and doesn't let go until the credits of the last episode. I was expecting, I don't know, maybe a decent mystery, something passable? But this? This was something else, another level! The story starts with our protagonist, Shinpei Ajiro, returning to his home island, but be careful, it's not for a party or anything like that; he's going to the funeral of Ushio, his adoptive sister... the official version is that she drowned while trying to save a little girl, tragic, but almost instantly, things feel... weird, like something doesn't add up.

Shinpei sees some really strange bruises around Ushio’s neck and suddenly he doesn’t believe the “accidental drowning” thing anymore, you quickly feel that uneasy vibe, that feeling that the island paradise is just a pretty facade for something much darker lurking underneath… then to top it all off, Shinpei has a vision of Ushio, crystal clear, begging him to “save Mio”, her other adoptive sister. What a way to start, that first episode throws you headfirst into the madness of the island and you’re hooked right away, trying to figure out what the hell is really going on… it’s not just “who did it?”; it’s “what the hell is going on here!”… just when you think you’re getting the hang of this possible murder mystery, BOOM! The anime introduces you to the “shadows”.

Now, this is where things go from “intriguing” to “I NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW!” These aren’t your typical friendly little ghosts. These shadows are creepy little entities that can perfectly copy people—their appearance, their memories, everything!—and then, well, replace them. There’s an old legend about them on the island, and suddenly, that legend feels terrifyingly real. The whole concept sends you into a state of paranoia. Who can you trust? Is this person really who they say they are? It adds a whole layer of fantasy and horror to the mystery and becomes the driving force behind the entire plot. You’re constantly questioning everything and everyone. Where did these shadows come from? Why do they have to be destroyed? Is there some bigshot shadow boss pulling the strings behind the scenes? A lot of questions! And the anime just thrusts them right in front of you, making you desperate to know the answers.

Well, and this is where things get really, really interesting, and it’s a trick that for me can be either a goal or a total disaster: time loops! Shinpei discovers that every time he dies –and believe me, poor Shinpei dies a lot– he can return to a specific point in the past… my first thought was: “another time loop anime. I hope they make it cool.” And you know what? They got it right on target, look, I’ve seen a fair amount of time travel stories, and sometimes it feels like a cheap trick, right? A way for the main character to keep trying until by pure chance he figures out the solution… but Summertime Render is smarter than that, Shinpei’s ability isn’t a magic “I’ll win just because” button.

It has limits, and well-defined ones, and the series actually takes the time to explain how it works as the story progresses... this is key because it keeps the tension at a fever pitch; it can't just overuse its "retries" as if it were nothing. Each loop feels expensive, not only physically for him, but also in his mind, you see him gathering more information, putting together the puzzle with each tragic attempt, and when he finally makes progress they feel much more deserved, it's like a desperate race against a clock that keeps resetting, but with fewer opportunities each time... one of the things I truly loved about this anime is the mastery with which it mixes genres and keeps you trapped, it has action, a very deep mystery, suspense that makes you nervous and a good dose of that fantasy wave that gives you chills with the shadows.

I swear I expected the pace to slow down at some point, especially with so much information and twists that they were throwing at me... but no way! It just keeps going and going, every episode feels like it’s pushing the story forward. There’s no filler, not a single moment where you feel like the plot is just going around in circles, it’s like you reach a climax and think, “Okay, now we can breathe,” but then another, bigger climax comes right after… I was constantly trying to figure out what was going to happen next, and more often than not, the anime would surprise me with a new revelation or a twist that left me speechless, the suspense is just… amazing. They use sound, music, and animation so effectively to create this incredible atmosphere of dread and “what’s next?” I’m not even kidding, there’s a little sound in the anime – sort of like a camera shutter – it feels very unique.

And obviously, you can’t have a story as good as this one without characters that are up to par, can you? Although I’m not going to tell you that the characters are deep or that they have mega-complex, layered personal stories like in some philosophical epics, they are all very well-drawn and, most importantly, you like them! Shinpei, our protagonist, is like a breath of fresh air… he’s not your typical shouty, reckless shonen hero; he’s methodical, he’s strategic, and he really thinks before acting, or almost always, he doesn’t just rush in; he uses what he learns from previous loops to try to beat his enemies… it’s really satisfying to watch him put the puzzle together… Then there’s Ushio… although, you know, she’s dead at the beginning, she’s still a super important presence and one that draws you in throughout the entire story… you’ll have to see it to find out! Zero spoilers here!

And the rest of the cast is also fantastic, characters like Mio, or the writer Hizuru Minakata –who, by the way, became one of my favorites instantly, she’s so cool and has such an amazing dynamic– really shine… they all have their own charisma, and their interactions feel real, genuine, the chemistry between them is what makes even the lighter moments, those bits of comedy, feel natural and not like they’re irrelevant. It’s not a giant cast, but they make sure that no one feels wasted, and that’s something I’m always so grateful for… and now, let’s talk about the visuals and the catchy songs, because, holy shit, the production quality of this anime is top-notch, some of the best!

The animation is simply beautiful… the everyday scenes on the island are drawn with incredible detail, making it feel like a real place, where people actually live… but when the action starts? Phew, man! There's a fight scene, I think it was around episode 15, that was brutally well animated, the choreography, the impact, the sheer fluidity of it all... it was incredible... it's the kind of animation that makes you glued to the screen, completely mesmerized, even in the quietest, most tense moments, the attention to detail is exquisite. And the soundtrack! The OSTs are phenomenal, a gem... each track perfectly complements the atmosphere, whether it's to increase the suspense, to mark an emotional moment, or to give you that adrenaline rush during a chase, it's one of those soundtracks that you'll definitely want to listen to afterwards.

When I started Summertime Render my expectations were... well, normal, I'd heard it was good, but "good" can mean a lot of things. I was worried that the time loop thing was going to feel overplayed, or that the mystery was going to get too convoluted, but no way! It just kept exceeding my expectations every time. The way the mysteries keep unraveling, that constant sense of progress, how clever the plot is... it all just worked so well. There were a few moments where the comedy felt a little silly or didn't fit with the overall tense atmosphere, but it was never so much that it ruined the experience, okay? And yes, there are maybe a couple of little things in the plot that, if you really look hard enough (it is a time travel story after all), might seem a bit weak, but nothing that really affected how much I enjoyed it or how coherent the story felt. For me, the weakest thing, if I had to pick something, would be that some of the secondary characters could have used a little more development, but with the tight pacing and focus on the main plot, it’s a minor complaint, really, the main cast is strong, and that’s what matters most. So, what’s the final verdict, people?

For me, Summertime Render is an easy 9.5/10. It’s one of the most exciting and well-made anime I’ve seen in a long, long time, it’s a masterclass in suspense and mystery, with a superb main idea, characters that draw you in, and production that’s top notch. It never leaves you feeling comfortable, it always keeps you guessing, and when everything is resolved, it is incredibly satisfying. It's one of those animes that makes you want to watch it again instantly to look for all the clues you missed the first time... seriously, if you're a fan of mystery, suspense, or simply well-told stories with that supernatural touch, you HAVE to give Summertime Render a chance... and well, that's all for today, I hope you liked the review, see you in the next ones, take care! Bye!

Byebye!

  2. Summer Time Rendering- Shadow of death anime review of the summer light- time, sacrifice and mystery...@naturaluttom358d

Hello all the anime and manga fans! I hope you are all doing just fine and having a great time everyday. Now, I am here again to review another manga series and today it is a new and exciting one. Summer Time Rendering is the name of the series, a fantastic science fiction, thriller and supernatural mystery genre manga and anime of Japanese origin. The story is about a place where there is mystery, supernatural activities and time has its structure tightly knitted together. It is derived out of the eponymous manga written and illustrated by mangaka Yasuki Tanaka. It is my pleasure to tell you about my experiences, opinions and interest in this series. and that you may be as much interested in this mysterious adventure as I am. ‎ ‎Summer is holiday, warm weather, beach air and youthful delight. This color of summer is also spread in the morning sunshine of the little island of Hitogashima, in the sound of the sea at dusk and in the garlands at night. It almost seems there is nothing wrong here when one looks around. Nevertheless, this same summer, a horror of mystery starts, which transforms everything on the island. ‎ ‎

Image source ‎ ‎The novel starts with a young man Shinpei Azushi. He goes back to the Island of Hitogashima after quite some years in Tokyo, the news of the untimely death of his childhood friend Ushio Kofune reaching him. The whole world believes that Ushio died in the sea in a simple accident. Shinpei is not satisfied: he has questions. Her younger sister Mio says that the death might have not been an accident, but Ushio had some unusual injuries on his body. ‎ ‎Shinpei eventually and gradually notices weird things occurring on the island. Others are abnormal and their eyes and faces are unfamiliar coldness. After sometime, he is informed that a bad life referred to as Shadow has prevailed in the island. These shadows are able to stalk a person, mimic him and then murder him killing him off. They are sector by sector in the silent business of conquering the island population. ‎

‎Even more events occur when Shinpei abruptly realizes that he can survive through moments in time when he dies; there is a kind of time loop he is engulfed in. He returns every time he dies and tries to transform the flow of events. Shinpei attempts everything in his power to prevent the shadows once and again using this power. Nevertheless, this battle is not simple. Although he gets back every time, time does not remain in the same spot, it keeps advancing gradually. But later on it dawns on him that the future of not just Ushio, but that of the whole of the island and even the whole mankind is at stake in this incident. ‎ ‎

Image source ‎ ‎The summer atmosphere is not simply the background to the anime, but it is some sort of sign in it. Peace seems to be reflected in the sun, the blue sky, the noise of the sea, the atmosphere of the festival with its bustle and bustle. However, behind this calm, there lies the shade, death, and horror. It is summer and we get to sense the contrast in light and darkness even more. After some time, the battle involving Shinpei, Mio, and others turns into a time and life battle. A novel of tension that works well to manipulate relationships, sacrifice, recall, and future and which will stir you. This is an awful mystery anime depicted in the light of a summer day, which reminds the questions about death and ends in depths of life. ‎ ‎

‎Summer Time Rendering – My Learnings, Experiences, and Opinions.

‎The most significant thing that I received after watching this anime is the influence of actions and time. In this movie, time does not serve as a backdrop, but rather, we see that time is a tool by which the lead character, Shinpei, keeps going back in time with the hope of making it in the future. It makes me understand that our simple actions may lead to significant outcomes in the future. ‎

‎Shinpei returns because of hearing the news about the death of his childhood friend Ushio. However, he understands that this is an unnatural death; there are weird things going on in the island. Then there starts the unveiling of unknown something named "Shadow", who impersonates the fake man and kills the real one. This theme of the Shadow is louder and loud, fearful, disoriented and the clash between the reality and the unreality. ‎ ‎Every episode was a cliff hanger and that made me want to keep watching. In spite of the fact that the time loop part of the story arrangement is near a bit to Steins;Gate or Re:Zero, it possessed its dissimilarities. Summer mood of the island, the light at the sunset time, the smoothness of nature, on the one hand, leaves peace, and on the other hand, this raises the feeling of a mystery and fatal threat. ‎ ‎As an individual, I believe that Summer Time Rendering is an ideal mystery-thriller. It has very good screenplay, music and character development. There are living breathing characters such as Shinpei, Ushio, Mio and Hein. ‎ ‎A moving experience of friendship, sacrifice, the desire to live, and an evolving attitude concerning the time is not the only thrill built into this series. Summer Time Rendering is one of the anime worth watching especially by those who enjoy complicated stories that are time-based and would want to engage in deep thinking.

Thank you very much for being by my side for so long.

Don't forget to let me know how you liked the article, your comments are very valuable.

If you have any questions, I will try to answer them, God willing.

    Your love is my motivation.

See you again in new discussions, new stories.

Hope you like it. See you in the next anime review post.

  3. Summer Time Rendering@coderaikiri383d

    1002031135.jpg

Summer Time Rendering is one of those animes which explores the use of time travelling from a supernatural perspective. Here evil shadow like creatures are the villains who try to overthrow society starting of from an inhabited island.

Created by Yasuki Tanaki with a total of just 25 episodes, the series tells the story of Ajiro Shinpei a teenager returning back home to an island called "Hitogashima" after two years of leaving. The purpose of his return was not for a happy reunion but because of news of the death of his best friend Ushio Kofune who died trying to save a girl from drowing. Shinpei is sadly welcomed by Ushio's younger sister Mio who takes him back to their place in preparation of the funeral with her father and other people as well. He is not just friends with Ushio but also really close with the entire family as he used to live with them when he was younger after the death of both his parents before he left the island for Tokyo to become a cook.

    1002031141.jpg

At the funeral, Shinpei begins to suspect that Ushio's death might not be drowning after. His friend Sou informs him that his dad ( the doctor of the island) did an autopsy and found finger marks on her neck meaning that there is a high chance Ushio did not drown but was murdered. He decides to investigate the issue while also trying to work on his grief. News of a condition called shadow sickness begins to circulaye on the island and apparently it starts that the moment you come in contact with a shadow version of yourself you are instantly killed. Shinpei finds it hard to believe such a thing exists but Mio on the other hand tells him that it is indeed real because Ushio actually saw a shadow doppelganger of herself before turning up dead later on.

    1002031134.jpg

    1002031133.jpg

This pushes Shinpei to the town's shrine for clarification but instead is confronted by a shadow of Mio who kills him, Mio and a lady he came to the island with on the same ferry. After his death Shinpei wakes up again on the ferry back home repeating the same events that has happened before. He soon realizes that he possess the ability to go back to a point in time after dying.

    1002031138.jpg

This fixed point varies as it continues to shift forward thus implying that the power of time looping is not infinite. With his new found abilities, Shinpei decides to use it to protect and save the entire island from the shadows who kill and replace people with their intentions being to take over the island and the entire world. Shinpei makes use of every death experience as his ultimate weapon for fighting this shadowy evil and putting a stop to their plan of world domination.

    1002031137.jpg

He soon learns that these shadows are not acting out solely on their own independent will but controlled by Haine, the first shadow in the appearance of a girl with white hair who the shadows all call mother.

    1002031132.jpg

Outnumbered, Shinpei seeks help from his friends Mio, Sou, the hunter Nezu-san, Tokiko and Hizuru a shadow killing bad ass with her brothers shadow living inside her. Together this team babe together with the sole objective of stopping the shadows.

They are later joined by the shadow of Ushio an anomaly that still possesses her humanity and wants to protect her family. During the cause of their battle the team realizes that haina also possessed time manipulation abilities with help from an intimating shadow called shide her plan is to consume every living being in the Island to extend her own life force.

    1002031140.jpg

    1002031139.jpg

As they continue with their battle filled with time loops, the true mastermind behind the attacks is revealed to be Shide. Shide intends to use Haine to live forever as he is just a human that has lived for over 300 years by body leaping but seeing it is impossible, intends to destroy the world.

    1002031130.jpg

    1002031136.jpg

This leads up to an epic final show down in another space underneath the island. After a heated battle, Shinpei is finally able to defeat Shide and eventually resets the entire timeline where everybody is still alive including Ushio.

Nobody remembers the previous events as they never occurred besides Shinpei but at the very least the island is safe and free from supernatural threats. Thank you.

  4. Review Summer Time Rendering / La Isla de las Sombras [ENG/ESP]@janusmolinovsky964d

Miniatura de YouTube para Canal de Música Llamativo Negro y Lila.png

Good morning to all anime lovers, this time I come to review this curious anime, and then we have to break it down to explain it.

The series in Spanish is called La isla de las sombras, alluding to a homologous series of film and literature, but in context let's see what it's about.

    filmaffinity

I'll be honest at first the cover is not at all attractive to the eye in the anime catalog, because it feels somewhat simple and generic, but despite that first filter, which is the cover, I gave the series a chance because I had nothing else to see on tv.

The context of this story is that our "protagonist" named Shimpei, must return to his home island for a funeral of his childhood friend, who was named Ushio Kofune, she died saving a little girl in the sea doing quote-unquote (lifeguarding on the beach when she noticed that the girl was drowning).

And from here on, a series of paranormal events will occur that will gradually wipe out the human population of the island.

To put it in comparative planes the author of the series captured the urban fear of the (doppelganger), which in normal lexicon is when an evil entity usurps your identity as a clone of someone ... and to stay in this plane, it kills the original (ie the human) to stay in this world.

And yes, this initial mechanic that takes the series makes you enjoy it glued to the seat in the first chapters, because these entities (the doppelgangers or shadows), are malevolent and will kill their original in explicitly violent ways at the first attempt.

The general plot of this anime is that a great part of the population is already (shadows) and little by little they eliminate entire families to replace them and continue killing more and more people.

Inevitably on a specific date of a festival where a lot of people gather, the doppelganger enemy horde kills the villagers left and right and summons a god of darkness with this ritual of accumulated souls, which in itself has enough power to consume the world with its cloak of darkness and annihilate the world's population.

So basically it's a doomsday equivalent to Thanos snapping his fingers of avengers annihilating humans. That is the context of what our protagonist must suffer in this series in a span of 3 days.

The series presents us with a mixture of something already seen in other series like Re-Zero, where the hero dies many times and must repeat the cycle to try to save the situation (not just any silly situation, literally an end of the world), but what gives it that aspect of vulnerability, is that our protagonist has no magic, no super strength, or anything generic of fantasy series, that is literally a normal human vs. satan.

That's how simple you can define the scale of critical level to which the plot subjects the protagonist.

It should be said that being a simple human without extraordinary abilities, he will die against enemies that are doppelgangers, since these are basically super strong, regenerate from damage and become a black entity that moves along the floor and walls at high speed. I would add that at general levels it is a battle of (a tiger vs a donkey tied with rope on a pole).

Another element of stress is that every time the boy dies, he does not return to the starting point at the time he wants, that is, if he arrives to the island at 7 A.M., when he revives and suffers the dejavu effect "to go back in time", now he will start the day at 7:20 AM. Making that "that time difference" makes that you can not save everyone, because every time you come back you will lose time before the end of the event that is 3 days, reaching a point where you can not avoid the events overwritten.

Which seems to me quite original and not give the time traveler effect with the Delorean and time circuits calibrated to convenience, XD.

    tenor

The author also raised another rule, that if he dies many times. In this limbo between resurrections the hero will be gradually limited with a path behind him that is collapsing like a bridge, (something like a line of horizon of events), so you can not die without leaving many hours of difference between the previous death, and you must always be one step ahead of that path, because if you resurrect behind the line of the ravine, you die forever.

Well, let's talk about the enemies (the shadows).

Do you remember in Inuyasha a being called Naraku who created extensions of himself as lackeys... and who would never die unless his original self was destroyed?

If you already know the answer, simply multiply Naraku x 50 and you will have a comparative result of how impossible the villain is in this Summer Time Rendering ( La isla de las sombras) series.

And no, I'm not exaggerating, Naraku would be like the secretary who brings the coffee to this new final boss, that's how flat out comparative is the effect of this monstrosity.

In Spanish I found it very strange that they referred to the demon or leader of the doppelganger shadows with the name "Jaime", ummm, which is something bizarre, but well, the villain can be called "Juan Valdez" if he wants and the situation would not change, because he is a being of armageddon that destroys worlds.

But if you look it up in Wikipedia, his name is (Heine), but I leave the information just out of curiosity in case the same thing happens to you when you hear it in Latin audio.

But in Christian terms is the series good or bad?

I would add that just as it has its good things, there are also things that do not convince the viewer when he sits down to analyze the overall conclusion of the whole plot.

The first of them is this girl named Mio Kofune, I mean literally she is the younger sister of the girl who is going to be buried and it doesn't make the slightest sense that they try to put her as (I want to fall in love with my sister's ex boyfriend taking advantage of her coming to her funeral), I mean, there is no sense in putting a love subplot when she should be devastated by the funeral of her own sister, so in that aspect it feels super forced a character like that in a dramatic moment.

    tenor

It should be said that the series tries to put her as a fanservice character to see her panties when she falls off her bike, over and over again, so in that aspect she is a being that does not match the depiction of the situation.

The doppelganger shadow of the dead girl Ushio Kofune.

And yes, we must be clear about it, the original girl died at the beginning of the series, so no matter how much they try to soften that she is a benevolent copy that will help the main characters because you think she is the real one, honestly they never explained why she (it is a mistake of the matrix that is out of the domain of the superior being that is Jaime, the leader of the shadows).

Don't misunderstand me, at the beginning she is a character that one doesn't know if she works for the villain and gives that effect of mystery, but then she is simply exposed as the heroine of the series, so it is something forced because even the same protagonist named Shimpei, knows that he will not be able to revive his original dead friend and he must accept that this copy helps him.

This girl has a complex of existence because she thinks she is the original and wants to help her boyfriend and sister.

I add, almost all the series she will go out in a bathing suit because that's how she died (drowned), although we must be clear that the series was decent, and did not resort to fanservice in the shots keeping the plot "serious" so as not to ruin the experience of the overall story.

This character unfortunately ruined the series, I mean, at the beginning she seems to be a kind of (men in black) sent by the government to report the paranormal activity, and to know how many people on the island have already been supplanted by doppelgangers, but after 3 Doritos later, the thing is more impossible to digest than what we imagined.

I add: this woman is the right arm in terms of muscle to face and eliminate the paranormal beings, but being totally honest I hated this character.

    And you wonder why?

    ellass.JPG

I mean, if we put it in Harry Potter plans, it is as if in the middle of the plot, the (author of the book) believes she is a fanboy in her own series, meddling in the story and stealing the limelight from her own franchise, which is Harry Potter. confronting herself as the author with Lord Voldemort himself.

I mean she literally feels like such a heavy character, because being an extra, she took too much screen time away from our main heroes, to the point that she literally was the messiah to save the series. I hate to see this happen with such a character.

I may exaggerate, but it's as if the manga author created a character to identify with and put him as a support in the series and even (put him on a pedestal above the main characters), that's how indigestible this character is on screen.

Well, in the last episodes is that he finally dies (without the hero being able to go back in time and resurrect it again, because he reached the limit of the event horizon) and then finally after leaving the main heroes' protagonism is retaken.

So in terms of annoyance, clearly putting a character who thinks he is a writer (or author) in a series of someone else's (Re-zero) gives a bad taste in the mouth.

    memeee.JPG

P.S.: I'm sure the author is a fan of Mia Khalifa and I believe that cameo because of his obsession with her, but to be honest, this extra character stole a lot of the limelight to the point of making him unbearable.

But in general terms, in spite of those 3 dilemmas mentioned above, the two sisters and this vigilante who is self-persecuting as an author, the series is quite full in terms of intrigue and entertainment.

I should clarify that there are parts where one feels that they should have shortened the series, that is to say, there are episodes between 9 and 12 that feel intentionally lengthened to reach the limit of the 24 that they approved as budget to animate. I mean, it's not that there is filler, since they mention the origin of the demonic entity, but I feel that they exaggerated in that aspect to lengthen the plot a little bit.

    Tenor

P.S.: the ending is something complicated and strange to explain, since they could have done like Jumangi, return to a time when they were young and the protagonist had not yet left the island to study as a cook in the city, that is, that his doppelganger with the power of the end would return in time and save his version original, letting them live with the conscience of everything that happened at that point of their younger versions on the beach.

But restarting the series from the entrance to the island where the hero disembarks for the first time to make him go through that hell again "to stop the awakening of that dark god (with all his memories and his deaths with spoiler)", the truth leaves the series anchored in a vicious circle without end like a Dante's hell.

    tenor

If you want to watch the series, I recommend watching it all at once in marathon mode, so you can be aware of all its tangled plot, without having to rewatch it from the beginning to pick up the episode where you are.

  5. Summer Time Rendering Anime Review@adamada1339d

A story written and illustrated by Yasuki Tanaka. It’s a suspense, mystery and supernatural anime that incorporates elements of time traveling loops featuring a blonde waifu on her swimsuit. It’s her battle attire and it’s actually justified within story why it is that way, because plot that’s why.

    ANiME USAK YT Channel

    What You’re Getting Into:
    • A logical protagonist that knows what he’s doing making full use of the plot armor he’s been given. It’s a time traveling show where he can loops back in time when he’s dies and tries to redo things until a desired outcome is achieved.
    • A blonde waifu with a belligerent and pleasing personality that can fight strong enough to protect your relationship.
    • A decent attempt at character building for the side characters.
    • A set of bland villains.
    • A cool opening song that takes you back to the 90’s garage band feels.

Warning: Spoilers below with some links featuring a few fight scenes as examples.

    Plot:

Shinpei Ajiro comes back to Hitogashima island after hearing about Ushio’s death to attend her funeral. The news of Ushio’s autopsy findings revealed she was strangled to death and kept a secret from the public. This led him to a rabbit hole all the way towards the mysteries kept within the island.

    Summer Time Rendering.jpg

    Source

Shinpei is a believable protagonist framed as a logical character and driver of the story. How he reacts to reliving the experience after death, experimenting with his circumstances, and understanding his limitations within the confines of the story was realistic.

The first instance of reliving the same scenario after death is getting a feeling of déjà vu to which a rational person would dismiss until they start recalling the events that led them up to the point of return. It’s Shinpei’s reaction to the supernatural circumstance that he’s in and his innate deductive mind made part of the show good.

Ushio being the second lead stood out as a character enough to make her suited to even be the lead. As a character following the strong willed but clumsy girl trope, the story was able to give justice to her as a character driving her own part of the story told from her perspective. True to herself and her drive to take initiative to do what is right, she is your standard shounen protagonist in a girl’s skin.

As far as character development for everyone else goes, the show gives a fair amount of screen time for all of its cast. Each character had enough screen time to showcase what motivates them and their role within the story. Though some had less to work with to be more than a side character. Are the antagonists good? An antagonist is only good when their motivations to be who they are become believable and relatable.

We do see some backstories here and there to trigger some heartstrings but it didn’t feel like they were natural. Going into specific details would cause major spoilers but I would sum up the existence of the antagonists as just monsters filling a role for the hero to vanquish. The show has an answer for how they exist in the story but it does a poor job expounding their motivations towards their respective end goals.

The villain reveal and their motivations just a few episodes before the end probably killed the momentum built. The pitfall was building around suspense against a menacing enemy lurking within the shadows. Once the shadows became unmasked and their motivations clear, the viewing experience just went downhill from there for me.

I already know there’s going to be a good ending in the show but at least making the monster they have to fight be more ominous until the end would have been a worthwhile viewing experience.

The extermination of humanity and the pursuit of returning to the void called home. These are things that have been brushed off lightly when the villain expounds their why and it just ends up falling short because these are just too grand to even be considered relatable.

The shows monsters fail to contrast Shinpei because their values and objectives within the confines of the story don’t naturally antagonize one another. It just felt more like accidental enemies.

    Animation and Music:

    Mr. Everywhere YT Channel

I didn’t have high expectations for the show’s animation when it comes to the fight scenes but some moments were well animated. You can see some shots employing different angles and perspective while conveying the momentum.

    Otaku Nii-San YT Channel

Some fights came off bland because some frames were animated with small skips when conveying movement. This happens when there are more than one directors working on the show, some shortcuts were necessary to save time, and skill of the animators working on that specific episode.

    Conclusions:

Summer Time Rendering is a good show with a few points above average. This show would have hovered to an 3.5/5 to 4/5 range if it worked on its villains better but it was ok overall. If time travel, fantasy and suspense are your thing, it’s a decent watch.

  6. Summer Time Render Anime Is Worth Your Time@wittyzell1375d

    Source

I just finished watching the anime entitled Summer Time Render And I recommend you to watch this anime!

If you're into mystery, a little bit of action (or maybe more..?), little bit of romance, this anime is definitely for you.

Lately my mood is into mystery shows. I came across this anime because in one of the websites I use to watch anime, I saw an update of the series and I think that was the last one. How lucky I was to find this anime that suits my mood!

Summer Time Render just concluded last September 30 on the television networks in Japan. I would have known about this anime if we have a TV at home but nah, we didn't have one. This anime is also not on Netflix and also not on Amazon Prime. I usually watch anime on Netflix so I would never have found this if I didn't open the anime website I'm always using.

You can also find this anime in Disney+, I don't know about your location but in Japan's Disney+, it's there. Though, if you want to watch it in Disney+, you may notice that only episodes 1-19 have the english subtitles. Episodes 20-25 don't have it yet. I guess they're still working on the subtitles for those remaining episodes. So if you give it time, for sure, the english subtitles will be added.

Enough talking about other stuff witty and get on with business

    About The Plot

will try my best not to give away spoilers

Ajiro Shinpei, the name of our main character in Summer Time Render, came back to his hometown, Hitogashima after being away for 2 years.

Shinpei coming back to the island

    Source

Hitogashima is an island in Wakayama Prefecture. It's a small island and has a small town with around 700 residents. The island's source of income is from tourism and fishing.

Shinpei was in Tokyo after leaving the island and his friends. Unfortunately, his comeback is not exactly a happy one. He came back to the island because Kofune Ushio died.

The first scene from the first episode will show you a conversation between Ushio and Shinpei on the ferry. However, Ushio disappeared all of a sudden, leaving Shinpei the words Find me and Take care of Mio. Shinpei woke up shouting Ushio's name and in the boobs of another important character, Minakata Hizuru.

After that, the next scenes were kinda normal. Kofune Mio, the younger sister of Ushio, picked Shinpei in the port. The funeral took place. Shinpei met his friends.

However, people around Shinpei have been giving hints that Ushio might not have died of accident but of murder. As he tried to investigate, he got caught up with a series of mysterious events like people disappearing and seeing an exact duplicate version of oneself.

Then, he got aware of a sickness called shadow sickness which is a disease known only to the island. If you have seen your shadow, most likely you'll die.

The story revolves around these shadows and how Shinpei will be the savior. He will die multiple times but eventually will be able to come back - a loop.

How is he able to die and be alive again? Is Ushio really murdered? Or is she alive somewhere? How will Shinpei defeat the shadows? What is the shadow sickness and why is it only known in Hitogashima? Will he be able to find Ushio and protect Mio?

Watch the trailer on Youtube from Jump Comics Channel (sorry it's in Japanese)

    My Thoughts

It was pretty obvious that Shinpei has feelings for Ushio, so let me just spoil you that. Who wouldn't come back and travel for many hours to see a loved one one last time?! But the anime didn't really focus on the romance part, which I like so much.

Every end of every episode, I'm faced with more questions and more mysteries to unravel. I like it too. It gets me curious to see what's next and why that happened. Even the second half of the series made me more and more hooked to it that I couldn't sleep on my usual schedule. 😅

The fight scenes are incredible to watch. With every loop, you would think the same scene will happen but it's not. I think it started when Shinpei died for the 3rd time? Or 2nd? I forgot already but I assure you that the fight scenes will be different every time Shinpei enters a loop.

    Ready to fight

My favorite would probably be when they fought in the school. Seriously, schools are an important venue for fight or important violent scenes in most animes I watch. 😅

The anime also talked about some history - like about a war but I don't know about that war in real life. It would have been nice if I have read about that war but you don't really need to know about it. It's just nice if I can relate it to real life.

They also mentioned something about Ebisu, the God of Fishing in Japan. I was so happy I can relate to Ebisu which I shared in my previous post.

The last few episodes are definitely a feast to my eyes. My heart's pumped up! If you can, please watch the last 5 episodes consecutively. The ending is definitely a peaceful one after all that chaos. And I like it. I think it's a very nice and appropriate ending.

    Conclusion

If I would rate this anime, I'll give it a 9/10. Summer Time Render has a good story and a good show to tell that story. Definitely one of the anime shows I would recommend you to watch this year. And summer just ended here in Japan too, so it's kinda timely to watch it. 😅

If you are still not convinced, try watching the first episode and maybe it change your mind. Who knows, maybe you'll watch everything and get hooked with this anime same as me.

By the way, I heard in Wakayama, they set up a some sort of gallery featuring this anime. Apparently, Hitogashima exists in real life - but not in this name. I heard the town is also not as lively as shown in the anime but there are really people living in the island. Maybe I can tour on that island and relive the scenes from the anime.. someday.

Thanks for reading! See you around!
