   Hello friends who love cinema, today I want to share with you some of the cinema of my country Venezuela, a film that I consider one of the best of recent times, since it touches on a dark period of our nation, where our homeland was built and at the same time which provides an important precedent as far as Venezuelan cinema is concerned. The film is called Taita Boves and was released in 2010 and tells the story of the first leader who existed in Venezuela as a republican nation 200 years ago. It tells us the darkest and bloodiest episode of the independence carried out by Simón Bolívar and how Venezuela was stained with blood. But before going into details about the film I will briefly tell its context to understand a little about the sociology and culture of Venezuela.

   Hola amigos amantes del cine, hoy quiero compartir con ustedes algo del cine de mi país Venezuela, una película que considero una de las mejores de los últimos tiempos, ya que toca una época oscura de nuestra nación, donde se construyó nuestra patria y a la vez que aporta un precedente importante en cuanto al cine venezolano se refiere. La película se llama Taita Boves y fue estrenada en el año 2010 y narra la historia del primer caudillo que existió en Venezuela como nación republicana hace 200 años, nos cuenta el episodio más oscuro y sanguinario de la independencia llevada a cabo por Simón Bolívar y como Venezuela se tiño de sangre. Pero antes de entrar en detalles acerca de la película contaré brevemente el contexto de la misma para entender un poco la sociología y cultura de Venezuela.

In this sense, it is important to analyze the concept of military "Caudillo", as the political figure who manages to seize power through force and supported by a popular movement. In Venezuela there were many caudillos, but none left a mark like the Spanish one. José Tomás Boves nicknamed the Taita. This last word means in many Latin American countries the figure of a strong father, a leader who protects the group with strength and in a paternalistic manner, hence in Venezuela the figure of Caudillo is the same as a Taita. Boves was nicknamed Taita because like a father he welcomed the dispossessed classes of the Spanish province of Venezuela into his arms, we must not forget that in the time of the crown the caste system existed, where the white Creoles were in the elite, while Since mestizos, Indians and blacks were on the lowest scale, Boves knew how to take advantage of these social differences to exploit hatred of the ruling class and become the greatest enemy of the nascent republic of Venezuela.

   Esta es una película que como dije antes, narra los hechos del nacimiento de la república de Venezuela y como tal hay cosas que deben entenderse, manifestaciones políticas ligadas a la geografía y la cultura de Latinoamerica entera. En este sentido es importante analizar el concepto de "Caudillo" militar, como la figura política que logra hacerse con el poder a través de la fuerza y apoyado en un movimiento popular, en Venezuela hubo muchos caudillos, pero ninguno dejó una huella como el español José Tomás Boves apodado el taita. Esta última palabra significa en muchos países de Latinoamerica la figura de un padre fuerte, de un líder que protege al grupo con fuerza y de manera paternalista, de ahí que en Venezuela la figura de Caudillo sea la misma de un Taita. Boves fue apodado el Taita porque como un padre acogió en sus brazos a las clases desposeídas de la provincia española de Venezuela, no debemos olvidar que en la época de la corona existía el sistema de castas, donde los blancos criollos estaban en la élite, mientras que los mestizos, los indios y negros estaban en la escala más baja, Boves supo aprovechar estas diferencias sociales para explotar el odio a la clase gobernante y hacerse como el mayor enemigo de la naciente república de Venezuela.

He makes his appearance at the beginning of the film, breaking down the doors of a church, accompanied by his wild and bloodthirsty hordes that spread terror in the Venezuelan plains. Boves desperately searches for a man who has betrayed him, and has murdered his wife and mother of his child, the unfortunate man has taken refuge in the church, those present to save himself hand him over to Boves, who now in their hands begins to celebrate a party of horror and death so that they know who will be the new owner of Venezuela.

   Nos encontramos en el año 1814, año donde el Decreto de Guerra a Muerte se ha vuelto en contra de los patriotas republicanos, comienza la Gran Emigración a Oriente, donde los militares patriotas escoltan a los ciudadanos quienes huyen del demonio lleno de venganza, el Comandante Boves. Hace su aparición al inicio de la película, derribando las puertas de una iglesia, acompañado de sus hordas salvajes y sanguinarias que siembran el terror en los llanos venezolanos. Boves busca desesperadamente a un hombre que lo ha traicionado, y ha asesinado a su mujer y madre de su hijo, el desdichado se ha refugiado en la iglesia, los presentes para salvarse lo entregan a Boves, quien ahora en sus manos comienza a celebrar una fiesta de horror y muerte para que sepan quien será el nuevo dueño de Venezuela.

Upon his release from prison, he makes friends with an important landowner from the Venezuelan plains, Pedro Zaraza, who gives him work.

   En una elipsis narrativa, luego de los acontecimientos grotescos del inicio, encontramos a un joven Boves saliendo de la cárcel por contrabando, una actividad muy usual y que las autoridades no perdonaban. Como muchos españoles de la época, Boves vino a Venezuela en búsqueda de fortuna y en el contrabando quiso encontrar el camino rápido. A su salida de la cárcel traba amistad con un importante terrateniente de los llanos venezolanos Pedro Zaraza quien le da trabajo

Boves is initiated into the mestizo witchcraft of indigenous and black people, something that all Venezuelan politicians have done, it is like his initiation into politics, so Boves the first leader leaves it for granted that in order to govern this hostile territory one must have the forces of God and those of the devil.

   Boves demuestra desde el principio ser muy valiente y tenaz, especialmente para ir a lugares donde nadie se atreve, es así como logra traer los mejores caballos del llano venezolano para poder hacer negocios con los dueños de hacienda, de esa manera se va haciendo rico poco a poco. El error de Boves desde un principio fue pensar que solo hacer dinero le bastaría para formar parte de la aristocracia, esos valores aun no son bienvenidos, así que tiene más valor social el apellido ligado a la nobleza y el suyo esta ligado a las zonas mas pobres de España, cosa que pensó sería olvidado en su nuevo país. Boves es iniciado en la brujería mestiza de indígenas y negros, cosa que han hecho todos los políticos venezolanos, es como su iniciación a la política, así que Boves el primer caudillo deja por sentado que para poder gobernar este territorio hostil se debe contar con las fuerzas de dios y las del diablo.

Within Boves' army there is no distinction, they are only driven by hatred towards the nobility.

   Y como todo lo que sube baja estrepitosamente, Boves es acusado de traidor ya que en un inicio el apoyó al bando republicano, pero por una mala jugada fue acusado de traidor y condenado a muerte, se salva milagrosamente y rápido para a las filas del ejército español, donde da rienda suelta a su venganza y sed de sangre, uno a uno va cazando a sus enemigos aprovechando la guerra, algo que hicieron los militares de aquella época, utilizaban la guerra como un medio para alcanzar fines personales, comenzando por Simón Bolívar, quien deseaba ser el Napoléon Bonaparte de America Latina. Así Boves va sembrando el terror entre los patriostas. El acontecimiento de mayor importancia en su vida fue el asesinato de María Trinidad por parte de los patriotas, este hecho desencadena que Boves se transforme en un demonio que lleva la muerte a las provincias de Venezuela, lo siguen los negros, mestizos e indios por igual, dentro del ejército de Boves no hay distinción, solo los empuja el odio hacia la nobleza.

   Every film has its highest point, whether at the level of story or dialogue, mine in this film is undoubtedly Commander Boves' speech to recruit all the outlaws, criminals and slaves of the Venezuelan plains. Boves begins by highlighting the social differences, and makes them understand in his speech that the enemy is not the king of Spain, the real enemy is the republican insurgents, since they are the ones who oppress them and take away their rights. Without a doubt, the speech is strong and his followers praise him with fanaticism. Boves declares the abolition of slavery for anyone who joins his army, thus beginning what is known as the Infernal Legion, the most feared and bloodthirsty army. that has been known in the history of Venezuela from the countries that freed themselves from the Spanish empire.

   Toda película tiene su punto más alto, ya sea a nivel de historia o de diálogos, el mío en esta cinta sin duda es el discurso del comandante Boves para reclutar a todos los forajidos, delincuentes y esclavos de los llanos venezolanos. Boves comienza resaltando las diferencias sociales, y les hace entender en su discurso que el enemigo no es el rey de España, el verdadero enemigo son los insurgentes republicanos, ya que ellos son quienes los oprimen y les quitan sus derechos. Sin duda el discurso es fuerte y sus seguidores lo alaban con fanatismo, Boves declara la abolición de la esclavitud para todo aquel que se una a su ejército, así da inicio a lo que se conoce como la Legión Infernal, el ejército más temido y sanguinario que se ha conocido en la historia de Venezuela de los países que se liberaron del imperio español

   I have already commented on most of the film, however it has great scenes that would not begin to describe how wonderful it is, but I comment that one of the most perverse acts that has never been repeated in Venezuela was the invasion of the province of Valencia. Boves throws a party where he summons all the landowners, many of them old enemies, and deceives them into believing that they will have peace. Boves had his musicians who played his tune of death, when that popular song played, it was the order to put everyone to the sword. The commander orders the song to be played and immediately the festival of blood, rape, looting and death begins.

   Ya he comentado la mayor parte de la película sin embargo posee escenas grandiosas que no terminaría de describir lo maravillosa que es, pero comento que uno de los actos mas perversos y que jamás se ha repetido en Venezuela fue la invasiónde la provincia de Valencia. Boves se hace dar una fiesta donde convoca a todos los terratenientes, mucho de ellos viejos enemigos, los engaña haciéndoles creer que tendrán la paz. Boves tenía a sus músicos quienes tocaban su tonada de la muerte, cuando sonaba esa canción popular, era la orden de pasar a todos por las espadas. El comandante manda a a tocar la canción y en seguida comienza el festival de sangre, violaciones, saqueo y muerte.

   My final comment is that it is a very good film, which shamelessly highlights the worst of our history and recognizes how that was fundamental in the birth of Venezuela. THE film is an adaptation of the novel Boves El Urogallo, written by the Venezuelan psychiatrist Francisco Herrera Luque, who tries to reflect the mentality of the time but not before delving into the development of the main character and where it is very well reflected that Boves was the consequence of the inhuman acts perpetrated by Simón Bolívar and his soldiers. A story always has two sides, and Boves has remained in our history as the incarnation of evil, his name still resonates in the Venezuelan plains, where he is remembered with respect and terror. I recommend this film, as it is one of the greatest works of Latin American cinema.

   Mi comentario final es que es una película muy buena, que sin verguenza alguna resalta lo peor de nuestra historia y reconoce como eso fue fundamental en el nacimiento de Venezuela. LA película es una adaptación de la novela Boves El Urogallo, escrita por el psiquiatra venezolano Francisco Herrera Luque, quien trata de reflejar la mentalidad de la época no sin antes ahondar en el desarrollo del personaje principal y donde queda muy bien reflejado que Boves fue la consecuencia de los actos inhumanos perpetrados por Simón Bolívar y sus soldados. Una historia siempre tiene dos caras, y Boves ha quedado en nuestra historia como la encarnación del mal, su nombre aun resuena en los llanos venezolanos, donde de le recuerda con respeto y terror. Recomiendo esta película, por ser una de las más grandes obras del cine latinoamericano.

   Uno de los filmes de epicos mas infravalorados de la historia, con un guion profundo, vestuario impecable, banda sonora que te trapa y una direcciona de arte que roza con el realismo mágico que tanto usamos en el cine latinoamericano, la película fue estrenada en el 2010 sin grandes alardes, lamentablemente fue una película que paso sin pena ni gloria, pocos la conocen, pero es uno de filmes mejor elaborado y realizado en Venezuela, incluso me atrevo a decir que puede competir con las grandes producciones de hollywood, es una película que es rebelde, que se aventura a explorar el lado oscuro de la intendencia Venezolano, tocando temas sensibles para muchos pero que son necesarios ponerlos en escena.

   Luis Alberto Lamata nos deleita con su sexta obra cinematográfico, teniendo buenos precedentes en su historia, parte de lo que hace al filme bueno y a la ves increíble de su estreno es que buscan de hacer similitudes con Hugo Chávez el creador de la actual dictadura Venezolano, buscando de representar a Taita como un personaje con una visión clara y hasta comprensiva de lo que quiere, pero es un radicalista, que mata, que asesina sin piedad, que tiene roces con la demencia, haciendo representar que si no tienes cuidado la historia se repite, esa parte en la trama, la hace impresionante, te hace sentir hasta un frio que recorre tu espalda, los diálogos de la película consiguen hacernos sentir que somos parte de la trama, que estamos dentro de este contexto histórico, pero a la ves político, es sorprendente como de principio a fin nos quedamos enganchados a la pantalla.

   No hay personajes simpáticos en esta historia, hay criticas fuertes al racismo, y a la propia independencia de Venezuela, mostrándonos un lado mas oscuro, siniestro de la misma, nadie es bueno en este filme, todos son vistos tras los ojos del demente Taita Boves, bajo una visión siniestra e imparcial de la realidad humana, contextualizada en un hecho histórico, recomiendo mucho que si tienen la oportunidad vean esta película es toda una joya del séptimo arte.
