The Bold Type

The Bold Type came to me the way the best things come to me: without looking for them so hard. It was one of those days where I just wanted a series that would make me feel good, that would be my company while I was getting ready for life. Something nice, light, but with spark✨ And what did I find? A series that caught me from the first episode with its humor, its aesthetics and, let's be honest... many of us girls have dreamed of working in a publishing house in the middle of New York.

What started as “a series to have in the background” turned into a marathon of episodes. The main characters and I are in the same stage of life, and that makes everything feel closer. Yes, it can be cliché at times, like many series about girls in their twenties looking for their place in the world... but sometimes what we need is not a revolutionary story, but one that embraces us as we go out to conquer our history💄💫

The Bold Type llegó a mí como llegan las mejores cosas: sin buscarlas tanto. Era uno de esos días donde solo quería una serie que me hiciera sentir bien, que fuera mi compañía mientras me arreglaba para la vida. Algo bonito, ligero, pero con chispa✨ ¿Y qué encontré? Una serie que me atrapó desde el primer capítulo con su humor, su estética y, seamos sinceros... muchas chicas hemos soñado con trabajar en una editorial en pleno Nueva York.

Lo que empezó como "una serie para tener de fondo" se convirtió en un maratón de episodios. Las protagonistas y yo estamos en la misma etapa de la vida, y eso hace que todo se sienta más cercano. Sí, puede ser cliché a ratos, como muchas series sobre chicas veinteañeras buscando su lugar en el mundo… pero, a veces, lo que necesitamos no es una historia revolucionaria, sino una que nos abrace mientras salimos a conquistar nuestra historia💄💫

They are three best friends trying to survive the chaos of New York while working at a magazine that is basically a dream come true: fashion, articles, empowerment and lots of coffee. Each is trying to reach her career goal, but as in real life, the path is neither straight nor glamorous.

And no, this is not just about “girls in cool outfits”. Real social issues are discussed here, from a feminist, empathetic and empowering perspective. The series is inspired by the ex former editor of Cosmopolitan, so the story is like living inside a magazine where issues of health, sex, workplace inequality, identity and more are explored.

If you've ever dreamed of writing life-changing articles, having a group of girlfriends to vent to in a fashion closet at the office, or standing up for your ideals without losing your glamour? Well, this series will go straight to your heart (and your outfits).

💫¿De qué va todo esto?💫

Son tres mejores amigas que intentan sobrevivir al caos de Nueva York mientras trabajan en una revista que es básicamente un sueño hecho serie: moda, artículos, empoderamiento y mucho café. Cada una está tratando de alcanzar su meta profesional, pero como en la vida real, el camino no es recto ni glamuroso.

Y no, esto no es solo sobre "chicas con outfits geniales". Aquí se hablan de temas sociales reales, desde una perspectiva feminista, empática y con mucha fuerza. La serie se inspira en la exeditora de Cosmopolitan, así que la historia es como vivir dentro de una revista en donde se exploran temas de salud, sexo, desigualdad laboral, identidad y más.

Si alguna vez soñaste con escribir artículos que cambien vidas, tener un grupo de amigas con quien desahogarte en un clóset de moda en la oficina, o defender tus ideales sin perder el glamour... bueno, esta serie irá directo a tu corazón (y a tus outfits)

💄What I loved the most💄

What got me most was the friendship between Jane, Kat and Sutton💖 I found that unbreakable connection they have - even when they disagree - beautiful. They are always willing to listen to each other, guide each other, and empathetically embrace each other. I loved seeing how, even though they are pursuing their dreams, they also give each other permission to feel lost, confused, not having it all figured out. And that hit me hard, because sometimes we need to be reminded, that life is not just a checklist of accomplishments.

I am also very inspired by the passion with which they work. It's not just about doing what is expected, it's about leaving part of themselves in what they do, without losing their essence, even if the environment pressures them. As a writer, I saw myself reflected many times in that.

And I can't not talk about Jacqueline, I love her! She is the editor of the magazine where all the plot of the series takes place, and she represents everything I want to be as a functional adult: a self-confident, strong, empathetic woman, who drives her team without authoritarianism. She has a great emotional intelligence that we would like in times of crisis. And also special mention to Richard, since, although romance is not the main thing in this series, he is one of the best romantic interests I have ever met in a series.

💄Lo que más amé💄

Lo que más me atrapó fue la amistad entre Jane, Kat y Sutton.💖 Esa conexión inquebrantable que tienen -incluso cuando no están de acuerdo- me pareció bellísima. Siempre están dispuestas a escucharse, guiarse y abrazarse con empatía. Me encantó ver cómo, a pesar de estar persiguiendo sus sueños, también se dan el permiso de sentirse perdidas, confundidas, sin tener todo resuelto. Y eso me pegó fuerte, porque a veces necesitamos que nos recuerden, que la vida no es solo una checklist de logros.

También me inspira mucho la pasión con la que trabajan. No es solo cumplir con lo que se espera, es dejar parte de sí mismas en lo que hacen, sin perder su esencia, aunque el entorno las presione. Como escritora, me vi reflejada muchas veces en eso.

Y no puedo no hablar de Jacqueline. ¡La amo! Es la editora de la revista en donde ocurre toda la trama de la serie, y representa todo lo que quiero ser como adulta funcional: una mujer segura de sí misma, fuerte, empática, que impulsa a su equipo sin autoritarismos. Tiene una gran inteligencia emocional que ya quisiéramos en momentos de crisis. Y también mención especial a Richard, dado que, aunque el romance no es lo principal en esta serie, él es uno de los mejores intereses románticos que he conocido en una serie.

🍃Important topics🍃

Although The Bold Type has that cool magazine aesthetic and dreamy outfits, it doesn't just stay on the superficial. In fact, something that surprised me (and I really liked) is how it manages to get fundamental social issues in without forcing them or romanticizing them. They talk about feminism, racism, mental health, sexuality, desired motherhood, personal and professional identity, and more... but always from a human, empathetic and very real place.

The beauty is that they don't give lessons from a pedestal. They are girls making mistakes, learning, questioning. And that made me feel less alone with my own doubts. For example, watching one of them wonder if her dream is still her dream, or dealing with the guilt of prioritizing herself, made me think about how many times I've felt that way too.

In the end, it's a series that doesn't give you magic answers, but it does make you wonder various things. And that's worth a lot.

🍃Temas importantes🍃

Aunque The Bold Type tiene esa estética de revista cool y outfits de ensueño, no se queda solo en lo superficial. De hecho, algo que me sorprendió (y me gustó muchísimo) es cómo logra meter temas sociales fundamentales sin forzarlos ni romantizarlos. Hablan de feminismo, racismo, salud mental, sexualidad, maternidad deseada, identidad personal y profesional, y más… pero siempre desde un lugar humano, empático y muy real.

Lo bonito es que no dan lecciones desde un pedestal. Son chicas cometiendo errores, aprendiendo, cuestionándose. Y eso me hizo sentir menos sola con mis propias dudas. Por ejemplo, ver una de ellas preguntarse si su sueño sigue siendo su sueño, o lidiar con la culpa de priorizarse, me hizo pensar en cuántas veces también me he sentido así.

Al final, es una serie que no te da respuestas mágicas, pero sí te hace preguntarte varias cosas. Y eso vale un montón.

This is a series that may not change your life, but it does accompany you in moments where you need a dose of inspiration, fashion, real friendship and a gentle reminder that you don't have to have it all figured out to be moving forward. Sometimes, you just need a good group of friends and a job where you can make your mark.

I thought The Bold Type would be a series about girls in heels... and I ended up watching a story that pushes you to make brave choices.

Esta es una serie que quizás no te cambia la vida, pero sí te acompaña en momentos donde necesitas una dosis de inspiración, moda, amistad real y un recordatorio suave de que no tienes que tener todo resuelto para estar avanzando. A veces, solo necesitas un buen grupo de amigas y un trabajo donde puedas dejar tu huella.

Si estás buscando una serie que mezcle risas, temas relevantes y personajes entrañables (con ropa fabulosa, claro), esta puede ser la elección perfecta para tu próxima maratón, o si simplemente también te gusta tener algo sonando en el fondo mientras te preparas para caminar en tu propia alfombra roja 💖

Pensé que The Bold Type sería una serie sobre chicas con tacones… y terminé viendo una historia que te empuja a tomar decisiones valientes.
