  1. Chaser: Shocking Korean film based on a real person@gooddream2961d

Now don't get carried away; the film is very very losely based on a real person but that isn't the point. This film follows in line with the characteristics that I have enjoyed about Korean cinema since I first started writing about it. That is; you don't know automatically what is going to happen and good guys don't always win as they typically do in most global films.

I'm going to try really hard to not spoil anything but I will say this. The movie is yet again only in Korean language so you are going to need to read this one. If you can't read English fast enough to keep up I would imagine you might be a little lost, but you should still try.

It stars another one of my favorite Korean actors named Kim Yoon-seok playing the lead role of an ex cop who leads a less-than-virtuous life as a pimp of young prostitutes. He seems ruthless as the film starts, bossing the girls around and even calling on one of his girls who is sick to go do a job for him. He needs her to work because his other girls are missing, and he simply suspects that they have been "sold" or ran away to another pimp. I have no idea how this industry works but that is the story.

What he ends up discovering is that the disappearance of his girls is far more devious than them simply not enjoying the prozzie life anymore and he gets thrust into the middle of the life of a very complicated serial-killer and starts to show genuine empathy (which was not evident at the start of the film) as the story carries on.

If you follow my blog you may remember the movie "Bedevilled" starring Seo Young-hee - who is also in this film and is fantastic in her role.

Apparently, the rights to do a remake has been acquired by Warner Brothers for a mere $1 million USD. However, I believe these rights were purchased 10 years ago so i wouldn't hold your breath nor would I very much look forward to it seeing as how the remake of "Oldboy" was just bad.

I don't really care for this trailer but it is the only one i could find that was in English.

*do they have to use the same guy for narration in every film trailer?*

  2. Daily Movie Recommendation: The Chaser (2008) ,Genre- Thriller🎬🎥@themovieplace3236d

Today I selected the movie The Chaser (2008) aka Chugyeogja for the daily movie recommendation which is directed by Hong-jin Na which is his first film besides short films and he is a South Korean director known for his recent film The Wailing (2016) which was a damn good movie which I saw this year. Hong-jin Na is a great director and is at the beginning of his career having just 3 movies so far of which I must see The Yellow Sea (2010) aka Hwanghae which looks interesting from the description and I have great chances to like it If I liked the others from him. Let's get started and see why I liked this movie and I'll explain a few things about it.

    1.JPG

The film starts with Joong-ho Eom which is a pimp and a ex-detective who lost two of the prostitutes believing that they ran away from him or were sold and he trying to find them for his business to recover from the deadlock.

The movie starts pretty well not being boring and becomes more and more interesting until the end and we've already got used to such South Korean and Asian films for some time now and they have a different style from the rest, many of the movies being very brutal and that's what I saw in a lot of Asian movies and of course Quentin Tarantino is inspiring a lot from such films and many of the Asian movies are among the best movies he has seen.

Even if not all actors were at the same level as the main ones, they have done their best and I mean Jung-woo Ha which I also saw in the movie The Handmaiden, Yeong-hie Seo and Yun-seok Kim. Many people complained about the end of the movie but I will not do that knowing what kind of film I'm watching I was expecting that the final to be different and I do not want to give more details because i don't want to ruin the movie for those who have not seen it yet. In conclusion if you want to see a good action-thriller movie The Chaser it may be what you are looking for, and I'm curious about your opinions, also don't forget to request the movie genre which you like to be recommended for tomorrow.

    My rating 8/10
