At first I did not expect much from this dark fantasy series, but from the beginning it captured my attention, although the beginning was a little slow for me, I did not understand anything and this is a prequel to the 1982 Jim Henson movie The Dark Crystal, according to what I researched. The series tells us about the world of Thra and a revolution that forms against the Skeksis, this being a fictionalized species from the universe of the original work and they serve as the antagonists of the series. We also have the gelflings, who could be said to be the good guys of the story, being Rian, Brea and Deet of our main characters.

Al principio no me esperaba mucho de esta serie de fantasía oscura, pero desde un principio capto mi atención, aunque el comienzo fue algo lento para mí, no entendía nada y es que esta es una precuela de la de la película de Jim Henson de 1982 The Dark Crystal, según lo que investigue. La serie nos habla sobre el mundo de Thra y una revolución que se forma en contra de los skeksis, siendo este una especie ficticio del universo de la obra original y que sirven como los antagonistas de la serie. También tenemos a los gelflings, quienes se podría decir que son los buenos de la historia, siendo Rian, Brea y Deet de nuestros personajes principales.

I must confess that at first I was not sure what I was seeing, it must be because I never saw the original movie, so I did not understand, but gradually the mini series was capturing my attention, a fantasy story that seems very original, even many fans were expecting a second installment of the series, but Netflix canceled it, surprising the fans because it had very good reviews, although not to leave a second part, the views were not the expected. I think many negatives are because they did not see the story, because I really do not understand some opinions that I have read.

Debo confesar que en un inicio no estaba muy seguro de lo que estaba viendo, debe ser porque nunca ví la película original, así que no entendía, pero poco a poco la mini serie fue captando mi atención, una historia de fantasía que me parece muy original, incluso muchos de los fanáticos se esperaba una segunda entrega de la serie, pero Netflix la canceló, sorprendiendo a los fanáticos ya que la misma tuvo muy buenas críticas, aunque para no salir una segunda parte, los visualizaciones no fueron la esperada. Pienso muchas negativas se debe a que no vieron la historia, porque realmente no entiendo algunas opiniones que me he leído.

Para dar a conocer un poco más de la historia, los gelfling son como elfos, siendo una especie buena quienes luchan contra la maldad de os skeksis, quienes obtienen su poder de una forma que nadie conocía, lo que es una gran amenaza para el mundo de Thra.

I understand that the original story was based on puppets and one of the things they liked about this series was that the characters stayed pretty much the same as the story presented in the 80s. Also a lot of the criticism that Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance has received is some changes that several old school critics think were important. But it is that perhaps this production was more intended for a new audience and is that perhaps many of the new viewers never saw Jim Henson's film. Despite some details that we can notice, in general the miniseries is very good.

Tengo entendido que la historia original se basaba en titeres y una de las cosas que les agradó esta serie fue que los personajes se mantuvieron prácticamente igual a la historia presentada en los 80. También muchas de las críticas que ha recibido Cristal Oscuro: La era de la resistencia es algunos cambios que varios críticos de la vieja escuela, piensan que eran importante. Pero es que tal vez esta producción estaba más pensada para un nuevo público y es que tal vez mucho de los nuevos espectadores nunca vieron la película de Jim Henson. A pesar de algunos detalles que nos podemos dar cuenta, en general la miniserie es muy buena.

The photography of the series was an animation where Erik Wilson was in charge. I must say that in general I loved the animation, it is something different to what I am used to seeing, although the design of the characters and how they were recreated left me with mixed feelings. When I saw previous images I was skeptical, I could not believe what I was seeing, I thought I was not going to like it, but it was the opposite, I liked it, although if the production was mine, I would change some things and give a touch more realism to the characters. But it is also true that most probably they wanted to keep the characters as puppets, just like the original movie.

La fotografía de la serie fue una animación donde Erik Wilson fue el encargado. Debo decir que en general la animación me encanto, es algo distinto a lo que estoy acostumbrado de ver, aunque el diseño de los personajes y como los recrearon me dejó sentimientos encontrados. Cuando vi imágenes previas estaba escéptico, no me podía creer lo que estaba viendo, pensé que no me iba a gustar, pero fue lo contrario, me gustó, aunque si la producción fuese ha sido mía, le cambio algunas cosas y darle un toque más de realismo a los personajes. Pero también es cierto que lo más probable es que se quiso mantener a dichos personajes como títeres, tal cual como la película original.

The miniseries has good special effects that immerse us more in the fantasy story, although it also has its touch of darkness that gives the antagonistic characters of the story. The soundtrack was in charge of Daniel Pemberton and Samuel Sim, being a point in favor and capturing all the attention of the viewer of the dark fantasy series, as it is fun, but in many things can be horror and the music takes care of it. The Spanish translation is very good, where I really liked the Spanish voices of the cast of Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

La miniserie cuenta con buenos efectos especiales que nos sumergen más en la historia de fantasía, aunque también tiene su toque de oscuridad que le da los personajes antagónicos de la historia. La banda sonora estuvo a cargo de Daniel Pemberton y Samuel Sim, siendo un punto a favor y captando toda la atención del espectador de la serie de fantasía oscura, ya que es divertida, pero en muchas cosas puede ser de terror y la música se encarga de ello. La traducción al español está muy bien, donde me gusto mucha las voces en español del cast de Cristal Oscuro: La era de la resistencia.

Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance is a very good animated miniseries, where it could be defined as incredible, creative and faithful to its origins, from what I could research, which can attract again the fandom of the original Jim Henson's 1982 film. A plus point is that the puppets remain practically the same, where they were recreated by CGI, doing a magnificent job. If we have not seen the original story, the character design may not be to our liking, but little by little we get used to it and enjoy a very good plot, something different from what we have seen, at least I had not seen anything like it, not that I remember at the moment. Do I recommend it? Well I think that not everyone may like it, but personally I would recommend it, it is a very funny series, as I said it has a great story that is worth watching. For me it's a 9.5/10.

Cristal Oscuro: La era de la resistencia es una muy buena miniserie animada, donde se podría definir como increíble, creativa y fiel a sus orígenes, por lo que pude investigar, lo cual puede atraer nuevamente al fandom de la película original de Jim Henson de 1982. Un punto a favor es que las marionetas se mantiene prácticamente igual, donde fueron recreadas por CGI, haciendo un trabajo magnífico. Si no hemos visto la historia original, puede que el diseño de los personajes no sean de nuestro agrado, pero poco a poco nos vamos acostumbrando y disfrutamos de una muy buena trama, algo distinto a lo que hemos visto, al menos no había visto algo parecido, no que recuerde en este momento. ¿La recomiendo? Pues pienso que puede que no le guste a todo el mundo, pero en lo personal la recomendaría, es una serie muy divertida, que como les dije tiene una gran historia que vale la pena ver. Para mí es un 9.5/10.
