Hello, today I was checking movies from the past to see what I could find and I have a recommendation for you with this movie called "The Discovery"

On this occasion it seems ideal to tell you how this story is going:

We start with the interview of Dr. Harbor. In this interview it is said that he has explored many scientific possibilities and a consensus was reached, making his discovery known, proved that there is life after death. He called it a new plane of existence, he explains with scientific certainty that once the body dies, a part of our consciousness leaves us and travels to a new plane. There is also the discussion that he created a machine that captures brain waves at a subatomic level. There is talk that it captures these waves in the body after death, unfortunately the interview ends abruptly after talking about the fact that there have been 1 million cases of suicides due to that same revelation, minutes after this was said and the Doctor not feeling responsible for any death, one of the collaborators in the interview decides to take his own life in front of everyone. And so friends, is how this movie begins.

En esta ocasión me parece ideal decirles de cómo va está historia:

Empezamos con la entrevista del Dr. Harbor. En esta entrevista se habla de que él ha explorado muchas posibilidades científicas y se llegó a un consenso, hacer saber de su descubrimiento, probó que hay vida después de la muerte. Él lo llamó un nuevo plano existencial, explica con certeza científica que una vez que el cuerpo muere, una parte de nuestra consciencia nos deja y viaja a un nuevo plano. También está la discusión de que él creo una máquina que capta ondas cerebrales a un nivel subatómico. Se habla de que captas estas ondas en el cuerpo después de morir, lamentablemente la entrevista termina de una forma abrupta después de hablarse acerca de que ha habido 1 millón de casos de suicidios debido a esa misma revelación, minutos después de ser dicho esto y el Doctor no sentirse responsable por ninguna muerte, uno de los colaboradores de la entrevista decide quitarse la vida delante de todos. Y así amigos, es como comienza esta película.

A rather interesting beginning that completely draws attention, in fact, talking about the fact that there really is a life after death, anyone would be interested in seeing this film and knowing how far it will take us as viewers.

We start with a new reality, after almost 2 years have passed since Dr. Harbor's interview, the number of suicides worldwide increased to 4 million people trying to reach "the afterlife". After all this incident there was no trace of the creator of all this problem.

Un inicio bastante interesante y que llama completamente la atención, de hecho, hablar de que realmente hay una vida después de la muerte, cualquiera estaría interesado en ver esta película y conocer hasta donde nos va a llevar como espectadores.

Empezamos con una nueva realidad, después de que han pasado casi 2 años de la entrevista del Dr. Harbor, el número de suicidios a nivel mundial aumentó a 4 millones de personas intentando llegar “al más allá”. Después de todo este incidente no hubo rastros del creador de todo esto problema.

We see a character going by ferry to an island and in this he meets a woman, and they have several talks about life, only the two of them go on the ferry until they reach the island where they both separate.

Vemos a un personaje yendo en ferry a alguna isla y en este se encuentra con una mujer, y tienen varias charlas acerca de la vida, solo van ellos dos en el ferry hasta llegar la isla donde ambos se separan.

The man whom we see was the son of this Dr. Harbor, he was on his way to the new secret place where his father was, upon arrival he finds out that his father has created another machine, and yes, it is another machine related to life in the afterlife.

El hombre a quien vemos era el hijo de este Dr. Harbor, él estaba de camino hacia el nuevo lugar secreto donde se encontraba su padre, al llegar se entera de que su padre ha creado otra máquina, y sí, es otra máquina relacionada con la vida en el más allá.

His son doesn't seem to agree with this and just wants his father to stop all that once and for all. He for a moment feels that he can't think straight and goes to the beach, where he finds the woman who was previously on the ferry, but now she is about to commit suicide by jumping into the water.

Su hijo parece no estar de acuerdo con esto y solo quiere que su padre ya deje todo eso de una vez por todas. Por un momento siente que no puede pensar bien y se va a la playa, dónde encuentra a la mujer que anteriormente estaba en el ferry, pero ahora ella está apunto de suicidarse lanzándose al agua.

Don't worry, this is all like the first 10 minutes of the movie. I won't add anything else but I will say that it is a movie to watch several times, because once you finish watching it is when you begin to understand many things, and in the end you are left with many questions, and the answers are found throughout the movie.

Honestly the beginning is quite good and flashy, as it progresses it gets a bit slow but still has something that makes you wonder what is really going to happen and you stare out of curiosity, but in my opinion it is a movie that they could have gotten a lot more out of because the main topic is kind of interesting.

No se preocupen, todo esto son como los primeros 10 minutos de la película. No agregaré nada mas pero si diré que es una película para ver varias veces, porque una vez que la terminas de ver es cuando empiezas a entender muchas cosas, y al final quedas con muchas preguntas, y las respuestas se encuentran durante toda la película.

Honestamente el comienzo es bastante bueno y llamativo, a medida que va a avanzando se pone un poco lenta pero aún así tiene algo qué te hace preguntar qué es lo que realmente va a suceder y te quedas mirando por curiosidad, pero en mi opinión es una película que pudieron haber sacado mucho más porque el tema principal es algo interesante.

Hoy traigo, por segundo día consecutivo, otra producción de Netflix. Durante la primera parte del visionado de esta película me sentí aliviado al pensar que iba a poder hacer, por fin, una critica positiva de una de estas películas de esta conocida plataforma, pero poco a poco la ilusión se torno en tedio y luego pasó a casi aburrimiento para, en la parte final de la película, pasar a un estado imbecilitativo que es una palabra que no existía hasta hace un momento y que voy a utilizar para definir ese estado en el que te crees que eres idiota o que te consideran idiota... ya me entendéis... cuando te quedas frente a la pantalla con esta cara...

La idea principal de la película es cojonuda, un tipo, el gran Robert Redford, que o no se leyó bien el guion, o va jodido de pasta, es un científico que anuncia que ha conseguido pruebas irrefutables de que cuando morimos, parte de nuestra consciencia abandona nuestro cuerpo. No dice ni a donde va ni nada, simplemente que hay algo de nosotros que pasa a otro "lugar" o "dimensión" o algo así... por supuesto, en cuanto las personas humanas saben que después de la muerte hay algo desconocido, pero que hay algo, pues se empiezan a suicidar en masa, como no, demostrando que somos seres muy racionales, la hostia de racionales!!! El protagonista, el alto de Como conocí a vuestra madre, va en un ferri y se encuentra con una zagala y al final terminan en una mansión muy grande, con el científico antes mencionado que es el padre del protagonista. Mucha conversación trascendente, alguna intrascendente una maquina que parece artesanal pero que es la mas revolucionaria construcción jamas creada... que al final la van a romper, pero antes de romperla pasa algo y al final no se que cojones pasa ni si todo lo que he estado viendo era verdad, mentira, un recuerdo o que fuck pasa...

Al final lo de siempre, quieren marcarse un drama profundo con analisis del comportamiento humano y una historia pseudoromanticoide que suele ser un coñazo en el que al final no comen perdices y que cuando los creadores ya han enrevesado suficiente todo y no saben como desenrollar la madeja hacen un final que se creen que es rompedor e imaginativo y no entienden que da la sensación de que es un "corre kio, termina la peli que tenemos que hacer otras 541 el mes que viene... Netflix es insaciable!!".

Este mismo argumento o parecidofunciona mucho mejor en Rick y Morty pero contado de otra forma y con un resultado final mucho mas sorprendente, divertido y dejándote un poso que luego te hace reflexionar y darle al coco un rato... Los dramas-románticos-ciencia ficción solo me gustan si están bien hechos. Lo se eso es muy subjetivo... por eso esto se llama Crítica by uno de Huesca y es mi opinión, no significa que no este equivocado...si lo creéis, que estoy equivocado, por favor, en los comentarios lo discutimos amistosamente ;)

Sub-atomic brain waves leaving to travel to "another plane of existence" upon death. A sharp increase in the suicide rate around the world. The Discovery sets up a confronting situation; there's literally millions of people who are taking their own lives to "go there".

It is a radical idea and offers a bleak image of the world. Funerals every other day in every city, survivors being left behind, on the corporeal plane of existence. The attraction of there as opposed to here. The film presents a raft of what ifs, bobbing against a typically overcast world.

The key question of the film is What is the other plane of existence?, and our protagonist, Will (played by Jason Segel) stops Isla (Rooney Mara) from joining one of the four million dead by their own hands. The film’s pace is meandering, and the unanswered question is, for a world where the consequence of death is a ticket to there, why doesn’t anarchy reign supreme?

The cinematography is lacking saturation and focuses heavily (and a little too obviously) on the blue hues, in order to set mood. Once this settles in, you start to see the desolate world for what it is. More research, a man, lying on a gurney. He dies, and brain scanning equipment whirls in to life. Seconds pass, and the defibrillator charges. The man is resuscitated. Necessary. Research.

The film is creepy, in a charming way; with Will’s father, Robert; the scientist whom discovered the afterlife has the appearance of a cult leader at the complex he runs. Isla enters; and we witness the revelation that the “after life” can be recorded by means of a contraption that has been put together.

The plot (what little there is) heaps mystery upon mystery, as a romance unfolds between Isla and Will. Dead pan delivery of key plot lines make moments believable, but the film fails to evoke the central question what if of the film in as much depth as I would have personally liked to see. I’ve been spoiled by the stellar I Origins in this respect.

”People are just going to keep killing themselves.” The abject horror of this line, delivered late in the film; from a man, who stopped a woman from doing just this is one of the poorest pieces of dialogue in the film; compared to the conversations shared earlier, where tidbits of philosophy, science and challenging cognitive concepts are shared.

There’s no need to rush out and see The Discovery, because it is a Netflix Original. It is worth the watch; if you’re into a science-fiction-drama mixed with a bit of mystery; but it won’t be the best film that you will ever see. It will, however; be much more thought-provoking than anything you could rush out to go and see. It is worth getting through the film for the ending, which conveniently ties everything together well enough. It turns into a bit of a horror show, ala Groundhog Day.
