I was recently contacted about attempting to get this community going again and I'm going to try to do exactly that. If I end up using the wrong tags at the end of this, that is something I will rectify in the future. This is all a work in progress after all. I will do my best to facilitate some interaction between people that are posting about their favorite (or least favorite) films and movies and I would appreciate it if others would do the same.
I don't have a ton of HP to throw around but anyone that posts in here will have my support. Please read the rules and try to stick to them the best you can. I'm not an overlord but plagiarism really ticks me off, so please do not even attempt that.
MOVING ON. Let have a look at a wonderful film I stumbled upon last night
No matter where you live in the world you have almost certainly heard of and eaten at McDonalds. They are all over the world but there was a time when this restaurant and the entire concept of fast-food, wasn't a thing. It was one singular restaurant in San Bernardino, California that caught the eye of one man, Ray Kroc, who at the time was a struggling salesman who had been doing whatever job he could in order to make ends meet. He was selling milkshake machines when his secretary informed him that a single business had ordered 8 machines and Ray, presuming this was a mistake because "nobody needs 8 milkshake machines" decided to personally investigate what it is that these two brothers, the McDonald's brothers could possibly have going on to justify such a purchase.
In this short montage of sorts we get to see what it must have been like for someone that had been alive when fast-food started to first be a thing. Kroc, after ordering a burger, fries, and a Coke, is standing blocking the line asking "what's this?" when the person at the window hands him his food after a mere 30 seconds of waiting. Think about it for a second? Imagine the confusion you would feel if you went to a place to order food that in the past would be made from scratch when you ordered it and it would take 20 minutes minimum all of a sudden to having this ready for you to eat almost immediately after you order it.
Ray Kroc is so intrigued that he insists on taking the brothers out to dinner so he can hear the story about how this became possible and this is where the brothers probably got a little to trusting and it would lead to their eventual demise.
At dinner the McDonald brothers spill the entirety of their beans to Ray Kroc and hold nothing back. To them, they are just having a conversation with a man who is really enamored by their process they invented and Ray, well I don't think that Ray intended to set out to screw the two of them over, but as you will see when you watch this film, that is exactly what ends up happening as McDonalds got its start on becoming the largest restaurant chain the world has ever known and likely ever will.
The roles of McDonald brothers are brilliantly played by Nick Offerman - who we expect excellence from and John Carroll Lynch - who I think is one of the most underutilized actors alive today. It is probably because of his imposing size that he is quite limited in what roles he can play. Regardless, these two combined with Michael Keaton make for a very entertaining film that I can't believe manage to completely pass me by back in 2016 when it was released. You too might be thinking to yourself that you didn't know this movie existed and you wouldn't be alone.
Despite having the power of the Weinstein Company behind its release as well as one of the most well-known actors of our age as the star, this movie likely failed to even break even at the box office. Much of this has to do with the Weinstein Company releasing another film called Gold at around the same time despite a clause in their contract that said they would not do so. This resulted in a $15 million lawsuit and I have no idea if they won it or not. The irony isn't lost on me though because just like the McDonald brothers as they are depicted in the film, the lower production company FilmNation Entertainment put a bit more trust in the Weinstein group than they probably should have.
This film will keep you captivated the entire way through. It wasn't always sunshine and rainbows for Kroc, who experienced many hurdles along the way, many of which nearly resulted in his financial ruin as well as the end of McDonalds. He persevered though and have a look around your own city right now and count the success that he has managed. According to multiple websites the way in which the information is presented here is extremely accurate because it had to be. McDonalds was not going to allow a film to be released that in any way presented their corporation in a negative light, so the director, writers, and producers had the tread very carefully to avoid getting sued into oblivion by the actual McDonald's corporation.
I think this movie will appeal to everyone because let's face it, we all know McDonalds, whether we want to admit it or not. Plus, the fact that historical accuracy was enforced means that you are not getting any sort of suss film that just glorifies everyone involved. We get to see the good and bad of all people involved and in the end, a lot of what happens is very tragic and I believe you will agree.
If you haven't already done so, and based on box office figures you probably haven't, then I would say absolutely yes! This is one of the few films that I have seen in 2024 that I never felt compelled to look at my phone and I paused it if I had to leave the room. I didn't want to miss anything that happened. It is extremely well-written and especially with the main characters, they are cast absolutely perfectly. Young or old, this very informative movies is one of the best-made biopics that I have seen in a long while.
The only place I can find where it is possible to stream this for free is FreeVee or TubiTV and that comes with ads. It can be legally rented or purchased on almost any other major streaming platform. It is not available on Netflix

The movie The Founder, starring Michael Keaton, is a story based on true events that takes us deeper into the world of money and how it can influence people's relationships and decisions.
[Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX2uz2XYkbo)In this film, Ray Kroc, a milkshake machine salesman struggling to keep his business afloat receives an unusually large order for milkshake machines from a small fast food store in San Bernardino, California, called McDonald's. Intrigued, he decides to visit this store and is greeted by the McDonald brothers, who have created a revolutionary system for serving fast food efficiently and quickly.
Ray realizes the potential of this idea and decides to join the McDonald brothers in expanding the business nationwide. Throughout the film, one can see how money becomes the main driver of Ray's actions. His obsession with success and the accumulation of wealth leads him to make selfish and ruthless decisions.
During the course of the film, there are many interesting parts, but one of the highlights for me was the scene in which Ray Kroc, played brilliantly by Michael Keaton, realizes the potential that the McDonalds brothers concept has.
In this scene, Ray visits one of the first McDonalds Brothers restaurants. He is impressed by the efficiency and speed with which the burgers are prepared, something he has never seen before. What fascinates him even more is the fact that the McDonalds brothers have a very organized and standardized cooking system, which allows them to serve high quality food consistently and quickly.
At that moment, Ray realizes that the key to McDonalds' success is not just the hamburger itself, but the entire system the brothers have developed to make the business run efficiently. This revelation marks a turning point in the film, as Ray decides to convince the brothers to allow him to franchise the brand and take it to new heights.
[Source]( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1O8h0jhLyA)Michael Keaton's performance in this scene is exceptional. He manages to convey Ray's excitement and enthusiasm at discovering this potential, but there is also some malice evident. This wonderfully acted scene shows the true nature of Ray Kroc, a man who is ambitious and determined to succeed no matter what the cost.
The film also touches on interesting themes such as the conflict between the McDonalds brothers and Ray Kroc. As the franchise begins to grow and move further and further away from the brothers' original vision, tensions and resentments arise. This story of betrayal and business disputes adds an additional layer of intrigue and drama to the plot.
One of the highlights of how the film relates to money is through financial manipulation. Ray realizes that in order to rapidly expand the McDonald's business, he needs significant investments. In an attempt to earn enough money to finance his vision, Ray resorts to questionable practices, such as borrowing money using his own properties as collateral and making unethical deals with other businessmen.
Another interesting theme is how money affects personal relationships. Ray becomes increasingly estranged from his wife, who does not share his unbridled ambition. In addition, his relationship with the McDonald brothers is affected by his attempt to gain absolute control of the business. As the money flows, personal relationships fray, making it clear that the relentless pursuit of wealth can leave a trail of destruction.
The film teaches us how money can lead to the loss of values and ethical principles. As the McDonald's business expands and profits increase, Ray is tempted to make deals that go against the principles on which the original business was based. Food quality begins to decline and speed of service is prioritized over customer experience. It is a clear example of how money can corrupt initial intentions and lead to the loss of the essence of a business.
[Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lB-PRuHxbOs)This Film Shows Us How Money Can Be A Double-Edged Sword. If Goods are a necessary resource for the development and growth of a business, it can also lead to the destruction of personal relationships, financial manipulation and the loss of values and principles.
The obsession with money can blind people and cause them to make selfish and ruthless decisions. It is important to note that money itself is not bad, but management and research must be carried out in accordance with responsibility and ethics.

McDonald's is one of the most famous and popular restaurant chains in the world, all of us at least once have eaten there.......we know the menus, the crispy fries, the sandwiches and the delicious burgers, anyone who has never entered a McDonald's is almost a troglodyte.......
But if it is the largest hamburger chain in the world, do you know who deserves the credit?
Of a blender representative from Illinois: Ray Kroc!
Oh yes, because if nowadays we can eat a Crispy Mc bacon menu all over the world we do not owe it to Dick and Mac McDonald, the founders of the famous fast-food restaurant;
they did not want to expand into the restaurant business because they were afraid of losing control and the quality of their service.
They were satisfied with their one restaurant in San Bernardino, where they had set up an efficient, standardized system based on simplicity and speed.
Brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald, born into an Irish immigrant family, moved to California in the 1920s, hoping to make their fortunes in show business. After failing in the movies, they turned to the restaurant business, opening a drive-in in San Bernardino in 1937. Their establishment, called McDonald's Barbeque, offered a varied menu, but was distinguished by its hamburgers, which were the most popular with customers. In 1948, the brothers decided to revamp their restaurant, eliminating almost all entrees except hamburgers, and introducing a quick, standardized production and service system, which they called the "Speedee Service System." This system, based on an assembly line, allowed burgers to be prepared in seconds, reducing costs and increasing sales. The McDonald brothers had thus created the first example of modern fast food, which was a great success among customers, especially young people and families. In 1954, their restaurant attracted the attention of Ray Kroc, a blender salesman who was traveling the country; Kroc was impressed by the success and efficiency of the restaurant, he quickly realized the potential of that fast system because he himself was forced to stand in long lines at drive-ins to eat between appointments
source
.Kroc had a great intuition: he realized that that new restaurant system would work and proposed to the brothers that they expand their franchise brand, offering to take over the management and promotion. The brothers agreed, entering into a contract that stipulated that Kroc would receive 1.9 percent of the franchised restaurants' revenue, of which 0.5 percent would go to the brothers. The contract also stipulated that the brothers would retain control and ownership of their original restaurant and the McDonald's brand.
Kroc thus began to establish a network of McDonald's restaurants across the country, following the brothers' model and standards. However, conflicts soon emerged between Kroc and the brothers due to the different visions and ambitions of the two. While the brothers were satisfied with their success and wanted to maintain the quality and simplicity of their product, Kroc was always looking for new opportunities and innovations, and wanted to expand the brand internationally; so he began to violate the contract, introducing new items to the menu, such as milkshake powder, and buying land and real estate for the franchised restaurants, without the brothers' consent.
Tired of the constant pressure and arguments with Kroc, the two brothers accepted Kroc's proposal and for the sum of $2.7 million sold their name and ownership of the McDonald's brand to Kroc in 1961.
Upon gaining control Kroc continued to expand his empire, becoming one of the richest and most influential entrepreneurs in the world.
Kroc was able to achieve his goals because he was a man of exceptional business and marketing intuition; always looking for new customers and new opportunities, also he was one of the first entrepreneurs to believe in and launch franchising; he never gave up and did not let difficulties or rejections discourage him, he had great confidence in himself and his abilities, and he did not let criticism influence him; he was obsessed with success, money and would not give up until he reached his goal!

Based on a true story, The Founder is an intriguing film and a look into the giant fast-food corporation, Mcdonalds. One might assume that the man on the poster is the initial founder of Mcdonalds. But there’s a lot of business intricacies and politics at play before Ray Kroc took over and eventually established Mcdonald's corporation. Whether Ray Kroc is the bad guy or the good guy in this movie, it’s up to the viewers to decide. Whose side are you on? Without further adieu let me dive into it and share my reviews on it!
Ray Kroc was a milkshake machine salesman who felt that his job was a boring one. It was tedious up until he called his office and his secretary June, told him that there’s a restaurant, a drive-in, which orders 6 milkshake machines. Having to have reached out to drive-ins, he couldn’t believe how a place in San Bernardino California orders 6 milkshake machines. Ray eventually called the office and eventually talked to Dick, an owner of the place alongside his brother, Mac. The store was called Mcdonald and shortly after, Ray drove to the location. Alongside other patrons, he was amazed that the service was very quick and eventually, it was like a love at first sight. Long story short, Ray was invited to see how the operation works inside the Mcdolands and eventually, Ray invited Dick and Mac, the brothers who owned the business.

The brothers were talking a lot about how they got started with the business and revealed a little too much information about it. They were an open book and somehow, Ray saw an opportunity after a drive around a neighborhood and failed to sell his milkshake machine. He then proposed the idea to the Mcdonald’s brothers to open a franchise not for themselves but patriotically say, do it for America. The brothers have already had a concept and a building of a yellow arch surrounding it. Ray even said, “Mcdonalds could be the new American Church”. The brothers who didn’t want to open more locations weren't entirely convinced with the idea of more franchises especially in smaller towns. However, Ray persisted, just like the self-help audio that he listened to. Eventually, the brothers agreed to have a franchise and open more stores but with terms that basically still benefited the brothers. At one point, Ray wasn’t really satisfied with it because running the numbers, Ray was at loose. His life was almost falling apart as during the expansion, he put a mortgage on his house and the wife wasn’t pleased at all. With more and more stores opening and to make more money, Ray tried to find ways to pay the bank loan that was already due for three months. Harry Sonneborn who was overhearing the conversation that Ray had with the bank officer, just because he was a fan of Mcdonald’s. He advised Ray to open a realtor business. Ray Krocs ended up opening and owning the franchises land and all done without the brothers approval. As Ray climbed up the ladder, not only he made a new friend but also divorced the wife as Ray was smitten with another woman who came up with the best solution to a money-saving milkshake. Eventually, as Ray opens more business the Brothers lose control over Ray kroc. It was a turning point when Ray Kroc established Mcdonald corporation and The McDonald's Brothers were bought out and it changed the whole course of Mcdonald.

In my opinion, surprisingly for a movie that runs for 115 minutes, it felt like an eternity. The story was so packed that it was basically difficult to summarize the whole history of Mcdonald into a simple sentence. However, even when I can assume that the McDonald’s brother was ruggedly pulled, there were still problems beyond that. From the get go, the brothers though one had an ambition to go big, they didn’t really go through it whereas, Ray Kroc with a little bit of desperation, ambition and boredom from his salesman job, managed to persist and reached out to many people and risked his personal wealth to expand the business. Ray was an ambitious man and even in the movie, he hinted that the brothers didn’t even know that what makes Mcdonald special was its name. Not verbatim but he also mentioned, people wouldn’t buy from something that calls. “Kroc burger”. It was the name that was so valuable. The brothers, especially Dick were so adamant and strict about how his business should run. He was the type of businessman that would do business without taking too many risks. We certainly need a businessman who is honest and service minded like Dick but eventually, Ray was the one who claimed ownership of the business and put his name everywhere. The film was filled with interesting dialogue but also the actors who played Ray were really good. He makes me able to admire and hate him at the same time. His expression exudes greed and ambition and Michael Keaton does a really good job. It was the same with Nick Offerman who was playing as Dick. His voice is so iconic and his stern look really does the job to show that he was quite a stubborn character to change. Although again, I do not know why 115 minutes felt like an eternity.
From what I see, though it's a dramatization of what actually happened, I felt like all the characters in the movie portrayed them pretty well. Ray Kroc wasn’t really happy with just a middle class life with a few people from the club. He wanted something more and was just very thrilled to see a husband and wife worked together. It was something that Kroc was missing from the wife and eventually divorced the wife for another ambitious woman. I think that these romance added into it was just the extra sauce but it was definitely still intriguing that there was this aspect to it as well.
Overall though, after the wholesome-feel good Flamin Hot, the founder was a wake up call and full of nuggets to learn in order to grow a business and also own a business especially if it’s a unicorn one. I certainly recommend this movie and it’s 7 out of 10 in my book. Go watch it if you haven’t.

Fortunately, it didn't take me too long tonight to find something to watch as I browsed through Amazon Prime Video. A few short minutes of scrolling and I saw a film that I had been putting off for a long time now, but I wasn't really sure why. Sometimes I feel like I ignore films without really realising, even having heard good things. Only to finally give in and check them out only to be surprised, uncertain as to why I seemed to overlook these things in the first place. Well, The Founder is that film, having seen it on multiple streaming services throughout the years and actually being quite a fan of Michael Keaton's performances. The last film I saw featuring him being the very creative Birdman. To no surprise, his performance here in The Founder is excellent. Even if the film did slowly make me angry!
The Founder tells the story of the American dream. The ways in which citizens, perhaps more so in the past, could become entrepreneurs and take a chance at making something of themselves in America. Though the American dream doesn't come with its faults. The struggles of launching a business. The greed that ensues from those around you in pursuit of generating the maximum amount of money possible. And the very depressing realisation that the mass creation of something tends to result in the loss of quality, as higher production numbers means convenience over experience. There have been plenty of films about the corporate struggles in the past, though I haven't seen one that tells the story of the fast food chain McDonald's.
Surprisingly the chain has a pretty dark history, full of backstabbing, manipulation, and greed. Where the idea of the American dream is tipped upside down.
The Founder

The film starts off following around Ray Kroc, a struggling businessman attempting to sell milkshake machines to various locations around the area. Failing, running through the same speech with each person he comes across in attempt to get some sales. Things clearly aren't working out for this character. Though through these struggles the film also established the time and setting. The time of American diners and drive-in restaurants. These locations sticking to a very established formula of having their customers drive up, order from the cars, and have their food later given to them to eat from a tray. Watching Ray attempt to generate a few sales and linger around these areas, we see him as a man with plenty of ambition; one that is desperate in his pursuit to make something of himself. It is highly effective at presenting him as a person that is kicked down by society, but one that refuses to give up. It doesn't take long at all for you to feel bad for his character, seeing someone try and get endless rejections isn't easy.
I found this part of the film quite fun, showing the different time period and the strange, almost backward nature of how such basic things were conducted. Immediately we see that there is a gap to fill within this space. But most importantly we dive straight into some character introduction and slow development, done through a manner where the storytelling is still the main focus, but also immediately pulling on your empathy and you quickly begin to root for Ray. Eventually Ray does get a little bit of a break, getting a phone call that states someone has actually placed orders for his machines. Visiting the location, it is none other than the first McDonald's restaurant. Owned by two very smart and passionate brothers. Funnily, when you think of McDonald's these days, you think of horrible slop, food processed and thrown together lazily. Terrible for your health, and really nothing of quality. For many it is a place of convenience when laziness kicks in. Though the film makes it clear that in the past this was very much not the case. The two creators were incredibly efficient, mapping out the restaurant in attempt to promote speed over production without putting quality at risk. Having a very specific routine and idea as to how things should be cooked and presented. There's a wholesome notion to this area of the film as it displays the first McDonald's as something of the American dream. An outcome of hard work and ambition that stems from creative minds.
We believe that capitalism is a place of freedom, where such creative minds can flourish as competition is encouraged, and new ways of thinking are necessary. But the film takes a darker turn as we see how Ray acts like a parasite on this fresh idea. Weaving himself into the business and slowly taking it over. Removing the soul from it and promoting the idea of franchising the company, to which he is earned that quality would suffer, and the magic the original location holds would be lost. Without further going into the narrative, we very quickly witness Ray turning into an evil, greedy piece of shit as he thrives for control and money. McDonald's being his break after many struggles, but one that is far from deserved, and not even his idea.
I couldn't help but find Ray's character utterly insufferable. And we are pulled along for the ride initially and tricked into feeling for him. I noticed I was feeling angry just watching the film based on the actions Ray was getting away with. Much of what works about his character is absolutely Michael Keaton's performance as him. He has such range that allows him to look friendly and welcoming, to just pure evil. The fact that the film did actually make me angry is only a sign that his performance, and the writing, were that good. An actor that can perform and make you feel hate is acting very well! Especially if you don't even notice it and slowly forget they are just acting. His demeanor completely changes and it's such a sudden one that it quickly changes the tone of the film from the chaotic and exciting nature of growing a business to just pure spite.
Moving more into the visuals, I was quite surprised at how good everything looked in the film. Especially the scenes that focused quite heavily on the older nature of the events. The 50s and 60s aesthetic that is found within clothing, vehicles, and architecture. It's clear there was some dedication in the set and costume design, and also clear a nice portio of the budget was allocated to it to ensure things looked authentic. I find a lot of films tend to rely too much on special effects or cheapen out on the costume design somehow. Though there's no faults here. the Founder looks great, even down to. The lighting. A mostly bright and colourful film with plenty to appreciate. The directing is quite simple but it works in the film's favour as something mostly quite character driven, watching the decline of a man's soul and promotion of ego. I noticed tha the film had some creative editing in parts, however. Connecting scenes together through transitions or using narrative over events to give context over their plans or operations.
Despite putting off watching it for the longest time, I have to say I really enjoyed it. It definitely makes me want to avoid McDonald's even more than I already do; though much of that is from the great performances that really pull on your emotions and ensuring you have at least some empathy. But the film also reminds us that this is an aspect of capitalism. The other side of the American dream that doesn't always work out. That might end up with hostilities.

The Founder is a movie that tells the fascinating story of how McDonalds was created and grew to become a global burger brand. The movie was released in 2016. Chances are you may have already seen it. If you haven't yet, let me tell you why you should consider The Founder for a movie night. The movie is based on the true story, but that doesn't stop it to be as entertaining as the best movie you have recently watched. Even if it was based on made up story, The Founder would still be a great movie to watch. Retelling of stories of the past, add more value to it, and there are lessons to be learned.
It is a story about Ray Kroc, a salesman who hasn't actually created anything himself in his life, but gets obsessed in making McDonald's his thing. It is a story of Dick and Mac McDonald brothers who created something amazing in the food industry - 30 second food ready from kitchen to counter. Now don't think of it in terms of fast food places you go today. Their burgers were nothing like of today. Dick and Mac cared about quality a lot. Combination of quality of burgers and fries with fast delivery is what was revolutionary.
The movie tells the story of McDonald brothers journey in building their first burger restaurant, how through their passion for perfection of the food sold and the customer service they managed to create a efficient kitchen that made fast deliver of food possible. Word won't do justice to what they have accomplished, and true creative and innovative drive for creating something amazing made McDonalds possible in the first place. All credits belong to McDonald brothers. Ray Kroc, on the other hand had nothing to do with this innovation in its early stages, and only became obsessed with McDonald's after seeing the final product. Yet, Ray Kroc ends up becoming "the founder" of McDonalds corporation, and grows it to become one of the worlds' top brands.
The events in the movie take place in 1950s and/or 1960s. The producers did a great job recreating the images of the past. How buildings look, the cars people drive, the clothes people wear, what they eat and how they talk, these all let the viewers time travel to the past and have a historic perspective of how time moves fast and things change a lot over time. They even recreate the original McDonald's restaurant.
The story starts portraying Ray Kroc as a salesman who is driving around various towns to sell multi-mixer equipment to fast food restaurants. It seems he isn't successful to push this product at first, until he receives a phone call with news that there is restaurant in San Bernardino, California who placed an order for a few of these multi-mixers. Ray Kroc was a successful salesman and built a decent life for himself selling various products. This order surprises him, because he wasn't having much luck selling them with in person demonstrations and sales pitches. The curiosity of why a restaurant would be interested in not one or two but 4-8 of these multi-mixers, takes him to a road trip to see this restaurant.
After arriving at the original McDonald's restaurant, he witnesses something he hasn't seen elsewhere. Food was being served really fast, people were enjoying the burgers, and he himself had a great experience. When Mac McDonald's sees him outside the restaurant and figures out who Ray is, he offers a tour of the McDonald's. Ray grows even more fascinated and more curious about how the brothers were able to build such a successful restaurant. In return to their kindness, but also with intentions of learning more about McDonald's and their story, Ray invites the brothers to a dinner.
Proud of what they have accomplished, the brothers share their entire journey into this business and how they created their restaurant. This only made Ray more obsessed with McDonald's as business. His brain gears were moving nonstop shuffling various ideas and how to become a part of the endeavor. He returns to the restaurant and offers brothers to franchise their brand and system. To which brothers tell another story of how they already tried franchise and had a better design of future McDonald's restaurants with Golden Arches.
Determined that McDonald's can become a great franchise, Ray continues pitching brothers the franchise idea and ready to accept any terms to be part of this business. Main concern McDonald brothers had with franchise idea is the quality of their product. As responsible business owners they wanted to make sure franchise owners maintain the quality levels in their restaurants. We usually see such behavior by the true founders. They care about their creation a lot. Ray finally convinces them that it is possible to grow the brand and keep the quality in all locations. Part of the deal was the brothers would have final say for any changes or adjustments to their system.
Ray starts with the first restaurant, and slowly starts convincing more people to buy into the franchise and continues opening new restaurants. As brothers warned maintaining the quality in these restaurants wouldn't be easy, as the franchise owners wouldn't have the same passion for the original system as they did. As expected some restaurants start making changes. Ray figures out a way to keep these restaurants in check. He starts selling the franchise to couples who would work as a team and deliver higher quality product and service. That seemed to work.
As the franchise kept growing, Ray kept facing obstacles in decision making, because brothers wouldn't approve any changes. Even good ideas would be shut down. That started the somewhat of an animosity between Ray and brothers. After exploring different legal and strategic options, Ray finds a loophole where he no longer have to receive approval from brothers in making business changes. Ray manages to become the CEO of the McDonalds corporation and pushes brothers out. McDonalds brothers were offered a million dollars each to sell their brand and share. Out of legal options to fight back, brother agree to the deal with royalty in perpetuity and keeping their original restaurant. However, the royalty deal never makes in to the contracts and was agreed with a handshake.
Brothers never receive a royalty. There is a confusion about who owns the original store. Brothers are not willing to give up their restaurant. Ray instead prohibits them from using McDonald's brand as they have sold the right to the brand. Then another McDonald's is built near the first restaurant and the brothers go out of business shortly after.
Brother did receive a million dollars each. It seems to be a lot of money at that time. However, it also looks like the true founders were robbed out of their business, brand and innovation. I do not like Ray Kroc as a business person. I do not like what he has done to the brothers. Not giving them their royalties and not including it in a legal contracts wasn't nice. It also wasn't nice that they weren't allowed to operate their first restaurant. Ray Kroc goes on growing the brand and the franchise. Making McDonald's global brand, and making himself super wealthy along the way. His obsession with the idea did pay out. But his betrayal of brothers and working against their interest, demonstrated how not so nice of person or business partner he was.
The movie made me realize what McDonald's could have become if brothers were still involved. The franchise has lost its quality standards long time ago. Perhaps when it lost its true founders. Similarly, Apple as a company lost its core mission and quality standards when Steve Jobs was pushed out of the company. Apple reclaimed its quality standards only after Jobs returned to the company. There is something about founders that make the products work as originally intended.

Hello HIVE people, today I bring you a review of a documentary film that I have already seen at least four times and I always find some motivation and inspiration, it is about how the entrepreneur Ray Kroc managed to make McDonald's known worldwide.
At the beginning of this bio-pic we are shown how Ray Kroc toured the restaurants of the cities of the United States offering his machine to make six shakes at the same time, an enterprise that was not bringing him any success until he receives a message from his secretary notifying him that he has an order for six of his products for a hamburger restaurant in San Bernardino, California. Surprised and in order to avoid any mistakes, Ray Kroc calls the establishment and corroborates the information, moved by curiosity he decides to travel there to see what it is all about.
Once there, he met the brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald, who were proud of their particular system of work and decided to show Ray Kroc how their fast food kitchen worked.
The McDonald brothers had already had other attempts to franchise their idea but with very bad results since each owner of the stores ended up selling the products they wanted and making modifications without respecting the terms of the contract. Ray Kroc, convinced that the idea was great and could be successful, convinced the McDonalds brothers to give him the opportunity to run the franchises.
Always on the move, evolving and adapting to the market, Ray Kroc quickly positioned himself in the company until he left the McDonalds brothers aside due to lack of vision and ended up as the owner of the great empire he is today.
The film's setting, the cinematography is excellent and Michael Keaton takes all the laurels with this interpretation of an entrepreneur thirsty for success.

Hello Hivers movie lovers, this time I want to tell you about a very special movie, educational and very exciting for entrepreneurs, business owners and for those who have a vision for the future that few understand, on this special occasion I want to talk about a very good movie to see when you are starting on a new financial path or if we have an idea for the future that rumbles in our head, that movie is called The Founder.
The Founder is known in Spain and in Latin America it is known as Hambre de Poder (Hunger for Power). This film production of 115 minutes is released in 2016, we can catalog it within the genre of drama and historical fiction or biographical film, because this fascinating film tells the story of one of the largest and most famous enterprises in history, it tells us about the beginnings of one of the franchises that are recognized in most of our planet, the beginning of the McDonald's empire.
It is a very good movie that I openly recommend because of all the changes, the ups and downs, the obstacles and above all the success of a great business that at the beginning seemed simply a madman's dream.
Ray Kroc, a salesman of milkshake machines visits a very particular restaurant, its owners Mac and Dick McDonald, sell food in a very efficient and excellent quality, despite a long line people are served quickly. Ray sees the opportunity to turn this new design and innovation into a successful franchise, however, many obstacles will appear along the way, from the banks to the McDonald brothers themselves. A business model design that becomes one of the most successful in the world.
Attention, below I will present a brief summary of the film, it is something I usually do in my posts in order to analyze some scenes and in this case analyze a little the birth of one of the most famous and successful franchises on the planet, in that sense I must warn that the following segment will have spoilers about the movie, but also a lot of information about McDonald in general. At the end of the post I will show you my opinion about this movie plus a rating according to my perception and taste.
To begin we must know about the situation of Raymond Albert Kroc, better known as Ray Kroc, if we see the first scenes of this movie we will know that Kroc was a simple salesman of milkshake machines for restaurants, he did not have an academic background higher than a high school, you could say that he was a businessman who had not found an opportunity or a strategy to excel.
I am struck by Kroc's discussions with his wife, she wants to have a social life in an elite club with wealthy people, however, her economic reality was very different from her social pretensions, because our protagonist up to that point would not succeed in his endeavors, however, we can notice that in spite of the different failures he always kept on trying something new, he never gave up in spite of being over 50 years old, the debts were increasing and the commissions for the sales of milkshake machines were decreasing due to the lack of customers, a critical point for Kroc and his wife from a financial point of view.
One phone call would change everything, a restaurant in San Bernardino requires milkshake machines, however, it is an unusual amount for a single restaurant, due to this peculiarity Ray Kroc decides to visit and see for himself that restaurant, what he sees in this new restaurant would change his life forever.
It is the right word in which the restaurant of the brothers Mac and Dick McDonald was sustained. It is somewhat comical to see the surprise of Kroc to make the long line of customers to buy, surprised that the line moves very fast and even more surprised by the wrappers and especially the quality of the burgers.
Korc is fascinated by this restaurant, there is no other like it, he sees the great potential it has and his passion for business makes him find out more. He talks to the McDonald brothers to find out how these geniuses had developed such an efficient, fast and quality model that was unmatched by any other restaurant of this type of food.
We can categorize the McDonald brothers as geniuses in the process and management of fast food, building their restaurant on the concept of fast and quality food, so they show Kroc how was the construction of this efficient and innovative model.
This aspect is quite interesting if we see it from the point of view of an entrepreneur, because they made a normal restaurant something totally new and efficient, something that in our path of entrepreneurship or work we can do if we really want to do it.
After much experimentation, they were able to set up the space correctly so that the kitchen, fryer and other appliances needed to make the food were in the right place, something that another restaurant owner would overlook, however, the cooks moved like in a play, perfectly coordinated within the space and performing each of the tasks in the most efficient way. Only by utilizing the space correctly and properly training their staff could they produce a quality product in record time.
In the 50's it was very common for restaurants in which waitresses took the food to the customers' cars if they did not want to eat inside the establishment, they were served on trays and plates, however, McDonald's was all different, people could only order to go, they replaced the heavy trays and plates that could break for paper wrappers for food and drink, so the customer could eat wherever he wanted. This was truly innovative for the time. In the movie, Kroc himself complains that the waitresses always had the wrong order and that there were also many accidents when bringing the food to the customers.
McDonald's had managed to have a very pleasant and familiar atmosphere, with an attractive but at the same time simple structure, adequate customer service and a lot of dedication to every aspect of the restaurant.
Kroc, is completely determined to enter the business, having as a goal to make this restaurant a successful franchise, however, Mac and Dick McDonald did not share Kroc's opinion, they argued that they had tried to sell McDonald's as a franchise, but they could not control the quality of the products as only they know how to do, after all their name along with their reputation would be at stake.
The film shows how Kroc negotiates with Mac and Dick McDonald to become a partner, their goal is to turn this restaurant into a successful franchise. Kroc invests and tries to get investors for this new franchise, however, as the brothers warned him, controlling the quality of the restaurants was extremely difficult.
Kroc has many obstacles in terms of following the standards and systems of the original restaurant, as well as the large expenses in the restaurants, despite getting investors his contract limits him, as well as the expenses of the restaurants especially in terms of refrigeration.
Harry Sonneborn, a financial advisor who is an important character in the McDonald's story, decides to help Ray with his financial and contractual problems. As he carefully reviews the financial structure of his business, he tells Ray that his real business is not "selling hamburgers", it is real estate.
This is like the piece of the puzzle that was missing the twist for McDonald's potential to really explode, by having control of the restaurant real estate and leasing it to investors he would have a higher profit, plus, he could demand from franchisees the quality that the restaurant must have in addition to their due process and quality systems. Focusing on real estate would loosen the chains from the original contract with the brothers, allowing him to open more restaurants across the country.
After creating the Realty Corporation company, Mac and Dick McDonald confront Ray, however, he is theoretically conducting business in another arena where his original contract does not limit him, furthermore, he mentions to them that in a court proceeding they would not be able to pay legal fees, even though they certainly had the upper hand in the case. Ray in one move literally takes the brothers out of the big franchise business, furthermore, Ray remembers his company to The McDonald's Corporation and sends product samples to Mac and Dick.
In a big showdown over the creation of McDonald's Corporation and implementing the production system they invented, even using the arches invented by Dick. After a heated phone argument Mac falls into a diabetic coma. Ray visits him in the hospital giving them a check to cover expenses, knowing that they can not against Ray the brothers agree to negotiate and sell McDonald's.
The brothers place the price of $2.7 million, in addition, they would have ownership of the original restaurant in San Bernardino and 1% of all royalties. Ray at first refuses, however, the brothers persist in their conditions and reach a final agreement, Ray accepts their conditions and they are embodied in a contract, however, the condition of royalties are left out of this contract, Ray promises them under a handshake that he would give them the royalties.
One of the phrases that I remember from this film is when one of the brothers asks Ray the reason for not copying the system in a restaurant of his own, to which Ray replies that there was something in McDonald's that was special, familiar and above all that represented America, a beautiful and pleasant name, implying that without that name it would not have the success it has.
Ray opens a restaurant right across the street from the brothers', in revenge for not giving him the right to the San Bernardino restaurant, causing the brothers to go bankrupt a few years later. We then see that the brothers never received the royalties promised by Ray not being able to prove that handshake Ray offered them. A hard blow to the viewer but a demonstration of how tough and cutthroat the business world is, which Ray himself describes as a war, in which the competition must be crushed.
I love to see this kind of movies that teach and motivate entrepreneurs and business people, a learning that we can value despite all the bad tricks of "the founder" with the geniuses of the system, however, it is to admire the perseverance of Raymond Albert Kroc that until his 50 years kept trying, until he could get his chance and we like his methods or not achieved unprecedented success with the McDonald's franchise.
Previously his friends, even the bank staff made fun of him and his business, then they would probably watch him on TV speaking from his luxurious mansion, a lesson for all of us, especially for innovators who see a different future.
I can't pass up the opportunity to compare Ray's situation with Blockchain technology and the world of cryptocurrencies, while they have nothing to do with burgers and fries, innovation is something that is present in this new business model that is undoubtedly forever changing the financial landscape around the world. Like siblings platforms like Hive and LeoFinance are seeding innovation and efficiency in their processes. Many people may laugh right now at our ideas and especially at our vision for the future, but we have found that people will always laugh at visionaries and innovators who bet on a paradigm shift and who will reap the rewards in the future.

There are stories that cannot be told because they are part of us, they are inextricably linked to our daily experience as men, citizens of the world or perhaps it would be more appropriate to say as "consumers" for the story I am about to tell you.
It is the story of one of the most famous commercial brands in the world, one of the greatest business models that has ever existed today.
Take a wild guess...
Many people will have thought about Facebook, others about Coca Cola, but no... someone has surely sketched out the most obvious answer: Mc Donald's.

One of the most particular and eccentric directors of recent years wanted to sign a very classic film, what today we would call biopic and that would try to take us to the dawn of the great M to discover the reasons, insights, joys and sorrows behind the greatest commercial success of the post-war period.
John Lee Hanckock uses the histrionics of Michael Keaton to tell a story in his own way that adds myth and aversion to the symbol par excellence of junk food on the one hand and feeling at home on the other.
Also as far as its genesis and its primordial development McDonald's is not what it may seem but it hides a lot of passion and as many deceptions within it.
The title of the film is eloquent but very cryptic and misleading: The founder.
Who's hiding behind McDonald's, who will be Mr. McDonald who many years ago started the "fairy tale" of the great M?
The answer is not simple and indeed for many people there might not be a sure answer to a very direct, immediate and banal question.
If for Facebook you could indicate Mark Zuckerberg and for Ferrari the great Enzo for McDonald's you will find that answer is not possible.

Hanckock was therefore effective in the choice of the title and diabolical in putting Michael Keaton's winning face on the cover. Whoever approached the film had the strange certainty that it was the character played by Keaton who was the founder of the great American company. But was it?
Keaton plays the businessman Ray Kroc, a bold and dreamy character who goes from one idea to another in search of the winning one that can turn him around.
It would take an almost fortuitous encounter with two brothers who owned a revolutionary fast food restaurant for the time to change his life and perspective.

Those brothers were the brothers Dick and Mac McDonald and had recently renovated their restaurant and invented the so-called "espresso method", a method thanks to which they were able to prepare a sandwich with hamburgers in 30 seconds and non-stop.
A Copernican revolution at a time when in a drive you could wait dozens and dozens of minutes before receiving your sandwich and often the waitresses got lost among a thousand orders confusing ingredients, customers, machines and tables in the most general chaos.
Kroc came up with the idea to expand that business and make it a franchise. The brothers had already tried but with very little success because of their strong vocation for quality and strict respect for the original recipes. That's why the 2 humble and ingenious brothers had preferred to stay open with a single restaurant, earning a lot but without being greedy.
It was Kroc who dissuaded them and pushed them again towards the adventure of the franchise by taking charge of the organization and quality control.
Their agreement included collaboration but that the last word was always addressed to the brothers, on any change or novelty.
After an initial idyllic period of strong expansion Kroc began to become greedy and his mania for omnipotence soon led him to break the relationship and corner the brothers with ruthless moves and without any respect towards the founders of the espresso method and owners of the name and symbol that we all know today.
A fascinating story without doubt, but also a very disturbing and sad one that casts new shadows on a company that today inspires and nourishes entire generations, to the detriment of food wellbeing and the health of increasingly obese and diabetic customers.
At the end of the story, therefore, I ask you: who is the founder of McDonald's?
Who would've thought I'd be amazed at watching The Founder. I sure didn't know what it was until I saw Dan Peña's YouTube vids.
I watched this movie last month and surprisingly found it to be a good movie. 👍 Let me share what I think of it. Be warned though, there are some spoilers here so if you haven't seen the movie, watch it first before you read the entirety of my review.
So how about you? Have you seen it yet? What do you think about the movie? Share below!

Provate a indovinare...

The Founder tells the fascinating history of how fast-food chain McDonald's began and became a global brand. Expect many intense conversations/confrontations among stakeholders; some of them end up in loud, menacing arguments. There's some swearing (including a use of "fu-k," plus "sh-t," "hell," and more) and social drinking by adults. A man and woman who are each married to others flirt with each other, and he eventually seduces her off screen. While main character Ray Krock (Michael Keaton) certainly isn't warm and fuzzy, he does show that determination, perseverance, and hard work can pay off.
The film is directed by John Lee Hancock director and writer, known for The Blind Side (2009), Saving Mr. Banks (2013) and Snow White and the Huntsman (2012).
WHAT'S THE STORY? there's nothing under the sun that Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton) hasn't tried to sell. An Illinois salesman who's constantly on the road, Kroc has tried peddling all sorts of products but it's while he's selling milkshake machines that he stumbles upon McDonald's, a successful, freestanding eatery in California. Owned by two brothers (John Carroll Lynch and Nick Offerman), the restaurant offers a pared-down menu of burgers and fries and has distilled the food-prep process to the exact minute, the exact steps. Immediately, Kroc is enamored, and he becomes bent on selling McDonald brothers (and others) on franchising the concept throughout the country. But Kroc and the McDonalds have little in common except for their love for the restaurant: The brothers want to keep things small, pure, and manageable, while Kroc, though a believer in quality control, wants to preach the gospel of fast food, enormous profits, and world domination. In other words? This is not a love story. Laura Dern, Patrick Wilson, and Linda Cardellini co-star as Kroc's wife, a franchiser, and an unexpected muse.

The story of Ray Kroc, a salesman who turned two brothers' innovative fast food eatery, McDonald's, into one of the biggest restaurant businesses in the world with a combination of ambition, persistence and ruthlessness.
THE REVIEW

Over 36,000 outlets spread across 119 countries, serving more than 68 million subscribers a day, it is undeniable, McDonald's or what we are familiar with as McD is one of the giant brands of fast food restaurants that are already part of the world pop culture. The problem is, not everyone who enjoys french fries or Big Mac is delicious they know about the history of the founding of McD or at least know who the most meritorious to make a restaurant that was founded in 1948 it could be worldwide. Well, through The Founder directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, Snow White and the Huntsman) we will know a lot about that.
Not two brothers Richard McDonald (Nick Offerman) and also Maurice McDonald (John Carroll Lynch) from California who in fact was the first to give birth to McDonald's, this is the story of a Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton), a 52-year-old ambitious and opportunist businessman, machine salesman Shuffler whose life changed drastically when he met with two brothers McDonald's as the only party who bought his product up to six pieces. Stricken with surprise and curiosity, Kroc then chose to travel to California and was surprised to find that the little burger restaurant was not only crowded in customer visits but also running with an interesting system that he thought could be a revolution in the culinary business. Kroc was interested in marketing McDonald's bigger, making it a nationwide business. But of course not easy to run Kroc's ambitions, in addition to financial problems, Kroc also often get the hurdles of two brothers McDonald the idealist who often oppose his new ideas to advance McDonald's bigger and bigger.
In the end, it's hard to say The Founder as one of the best biopic ever made, but it's also hard not to be interested in watching it because the great charm of McD can no longer be released from our lives, like it or not. Of course, we can read everything through Wikipedia, how it stands, who started it, blah ... blah ... blah ... But the film media always gives a compelling offer to be able to learn, get acquainted and look back on history from an audio visual point of view with dramatization here and there.

In the case of The Founder, it becomes interesting when the manuscript written by Robert D. Siegel (The Wrestler) does not take from the viewpoint of the actual inventor who is none other than the two brothers Richard and also Maurice McDonald but from the ambitious side of Roy Kroc. This is not just a story of great success but also how to get it that was never easy and never walked according to the guidebook. Hancock gave The Founder two sides, light and dark, serious and relaxed where these two opposing elements could be combined well enough and balanced to present a cinematic rendering that is, of course, more dramatic than real life.

But in addition to his dense narrative and filled with intrigues and conflicts about the business world as well as the effective directing of Hancock, The Founder's greatest appeal is in the character of Roy Kroc that in which history records him as the person most responsible for the fantastic success that McDonald's gained to date this. But to be honest, Roy Kroc who played so well by Michael Keaton who is full of charismatic with his comedic side may not be the kind of character you can worship. Though we can see his enormous ambition with "persistence" as his life's motto, the darker side of The Founder describes Kroc as a dirty player, he does everything, even the most unworthy of ways to achieve his goals, including sacrificing his family, especially his wife, Ethel Fleming (Laura Dern) who later divorced her for another woman, Joan Smith (Linda Cardellini) who was none other than the wife of her business associate, or the worst was how she treated the McDonald brothers, how she destroyed them until there was no left. Hancock seems to want to convey a social critique, that business is business, no word of friends or relatives, a cruel world for the weak and unskillful use of the situation without ever making the character of Kroc become too evil even though he actually deserves to be called "The Devil Capitalist".
