U.S. politics has proven to be brutal, no matter who is involved in politics, they will be exposed to public scrutiny for whatever they do, big or small, politicians will always be judged for their actions and those of their loved ones. We have already seen in other movies how small mistakes can cost politicians everything and once again with The Front Runner it is demonstrated that if you are a politician or if you are in a campaign you should not make any mistakes or you will be bombarded by the media who will do everything to see you fall.

    # # Going deeper into story. # > Gary Hart, former Senator of Colorado, becomes the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1987. Hart's intelligence, charisma and idealism makes him popular with young voters, leaving him with a seemingly clear path to the White House. All that comes crashing down when allegations of an extramarital affair surface in the media, forcing the candidate to address a scandal that threatens to derail his campaign and personal life. The race to get the white house and the presidency of the most powerful country in the world is not easy, much less clean. This film focuses on the event that led to the fall of the man chosen by the Democrats to run for president, a man who no matter how intelligent and capable was, was judged by an error that any man could have made, an error that no matter how serious it was had an abysmal impact on his political career and personal life, leaving him isolated and basically ruined.

    # The central plot of the film focuses on the campaign of a man elected by the Democrats to make the presidency of the United States, a man who unlike other politicians gets along with the people, is a friend of some of the press and is extremely intelligent; basically he was the perfect man for the job. Unfortunately his chances end when in the middle of his travels he meets a young woman with whom he decides to have an adventure, an adventure that is discovered and exposed by a media system that destroys him despotily without giving him the slightest break. #

    # This is the typical political plot where a politician's career is ruined by a mistake, the interesting thing is that in Gary Hart's case his career was ruined by the press and not by a rival seeking to take advantage. For me the film fantastically manages to build a story that does not revolve around politics but rather in the viciousness of the media against a man who even being the perfect man for a job ends up losing it and retiring to no longer expose himself to public scrutiny. The film fantastically exposes the way in which political advisors operate in certain crises to save and protect their candidates as much as possible.

This is a movie that shows how a mistake can ruin the lives of innocent people who have done virtually nothing wrong.

    # # Final Thoughts # This is a film that shows us how flawed the American political system is, a political system that can be easily manipulated by the media and that is totally weak in the election of its candidates. The film manages to transmit very well all the drama surrounding Gary Hart's affair, with Hugh Jackman who manages to incarnate a role that seems to have been written for him, moving away from any possible memory of him as Wolverine transmitting empathy, intelligence and a tremendous charisma that makes us feel sorry for the treatment he receives from the media. #

In addition, the creators achieve a very strong social critique highlighting the treatment received by an innocent young woman who saw her world fall apart, and how her life was exposed to criticism for something she did for love and not for seeking some kind of fame. Sara Paxton achieves an emotional and sad performance that puts us in the place of the real victim of all this problem, a young woman who was treated like garbage by most people, a young woman who nobody asked how she even felt.

In short, this is a film that manages to show perfectly the lowest instincts of the media when it comes to finding a story that puts them in the spotlight, with a story manipulated beyond the facts to attract more attention and with a climax that achieves perfectly trigger a plot that becomes very entertaining.

    My Score: 7,6/10

  2. The Front Runner - Movie Review@trendingpopcult2785d

Welcome to the Trending Pop Culture (www.trendingpopculture.com) movie reviews. We saw The Front Runner, arriving in theaters November 21 2018.

The Front Runner R (Biography/Drama) – Bron Studios Director – Jason Reitman – Up In The Air, Juno, Thank You for Smoking, plus more Writer – Matt Bai and Jay Carson.
Starring – Hugh Jackman, Vera Farmiga, J.K. Simmons. The Front Runner.jpg What is it about? American Senator Gary Hart’s presidential campaign in 1988 is derailed when he’s caught in a scandalous love affair.

Review: Any adult that lived within this tremulous political time during the year of 1988, remembers the uneasy anguish of watching a politician fall from grace the way Gary Hart did. On top of the world, essentially being dubbed as the next United States president before the race even started. He was so far ahead of the pack, that most felt this could be the biggest landslide in the history of a presidential race. That’s how far ahead he was. Now, as a reviewer that actually did in fact live through this scandal, at the precious age of 18, I can say, it was exciting to watch this unfold in real time. Being an adult now, it seems more uneasy, only because you realize how many people are getting hurt during the process of this man’s downfall. This movie made me relive this moment in time all over again. It hurts more now than it did back in 88. The pain Lee Hart must have endured (Gary’s wife), played brilliantly by Vera Farmiga, was felt by most in the audience. J.K. Simmons plays campaign manager Bill Dixon on a level only Mr. Simmons can do. Does this man ever have an off day? Absolute highlight of this film. Hugh Jackman (Gary Hart) was a meek shadow of himself compared to the ‘brawnier’ roles he’s starred in. A showing of guilt, fear and anger. However, he did have a love for his country. Blinded by the fact that “private lives” in politics were to change in a dramatic way in 1988. One huge takeaway from this film, it was the beginning of the end of politics as we know it today. Politicians were now going to be graded on their moral compass a bit more. Their private lives were now fair game, even more so. Gary Hart was stuck in a time machine thinking Americans didn’t or wouldn’t care about his “alleged” affair with Donna Rice. Sara Paxton as Donna Rice was portrayed as a victim almost at times. At times the audience was in tune too with Ms. Rice, understanding her conflict. Whichever side you stood on, the director wanted to make sure we understood that there was another person involved within this scandal. Their life ruined. Many were left feeling a bit empty with Donna Rice. It wasn’t convincing enough to ensure the viewers care enough about her. It fell a bit short, as did this film, for the older audience. The predictability was off the charts here. Watching and waiting for each scene to unfold, but realizing you may have lived this story already (which they have). For the older audience this holds very true, for the younger audience, this may be a new story to them. A history lesson or sorts. The movie comes out during a different era in politics. It seems as though the purposeful timing of release is trying to send a message. Whether the audience understands the message or not, well that will probably all depend on which side of the aisle you stand on. But, one thing we can all agree on and that is the political landscape seriously entered into the entertainment arena in 1988.
Sound: Score kept revisiting a “clapping” chime. At times went on too long.

  4. THE FRONT RUNNER (TRAILER) | CON Hugh Jackman@laloretoyya2857d

Las actuaciones estarán encarnadas por Hugh Jackman (The Greatest Showman, Wolverine), Vera Farmiga (Up in the air), Sarah Paxton (La última casa a la izquierda), J.K. Simmons (Wiplash). El estreno está pautado para este noviembre, y sin dudas estará bajo la mira de la temporada de premiaciones. ¿Les provoca verla? Porque a mi si.
