The Highwaymen (film): It has a few good moments but mostly pretty boring@netflixr483d
Whether or not you are familiar with the details you have probably become at least somewhat familiar with the story of Bonny and Clyde. I knew a bit about them that they were bank robbers who were also lovers and they happened to be doing their crimes during a time of unrest in the United States where a lot of people felt as though the banks were screwing the people over in a lot of ways. Well, spoiler alert! The banks have been and always will be screwing the people over. But let's stay on point and focus on this film for now.
Even if people are familiar with Bonny and Clyde there probably wasn't a lot of talk about Frank Hamer and Maney Gault. Frank is a retired Texas Ranger and Maney is an old buddy of his. They are older, but very effective at putting together clues and finding things that other detectives simply can't. Apparently a lot of their sleuthing is true-to-life as well and they were instrumental in the capture and killing of the real Bonny and Clyde.
Now, this all sounds wonderful that a rather unknown aspect of the existence of the famed lover duo would be presented in a big film with two very accomplished actors, but there is a very real problem. Police work, when presented in a realistic fashion especially in the 30's when this takes place, isn't really all that exciting. Kostner and Harrelson are both fantastic in their roles but there is only so much you can do with a car, some maps, and a couple of grizzled detectives piecing together clues.
The script is pretty good and they attempt to create some sort of humorous moments between the dynamic duo in that they butt heads on a lot of things and these verbal disagreements are part of the reason why they are able to figure out so many things that other people can't. This isn't directly stated in the film, but the reason why Maney and Frank are so effective is because there is not hierarchy between then, there is no "yes men." Even though Frank is technically Maney's superior, he doesn't order him around and pull rank outside of one point in the film and once you see that you will understand the importance of the fact that Maney ignores the order and puts himself in potential harm's way in the meantime.
While they are the ones that are the reason why this film exists in the first place, Bonny and Clyde are not shown on screen very often. We do not get to see into their side of the story, what they are doing, and what they are thinking very often. While this is a strange choice because it certainly would make the film more interesting, the film is meant to focus on the lawmen pursuing them, not on those that are being pursued.
The repetitive police work along with the inevitable dick-measuring contest that takes place between the various law-enforcement groups that are involved are at times reasonably entertaining but for the most part the reality of this story is that two dudes were running around in a car for months or more, following the trail of the most wanted criminals in the United States at the time. There isn't really much in the way of excitement that can be thrown into the mix.
I suppose in a way I am happy that they stuck to the real story rather than trying to "Hollywood it up a bit" but at the same time there is only so much "gruff inspiration speech from Costner" followed by "somewhat whiney but wisdom filled retort from Harrelson" that can really be enjoyed.
The best parts of the film involve their encounters or near encounters with Bonny and Clyde and while I don't care enough to actually look it up, I would imagine that some of them are a bit exaugurated. Unless you are completely ignorant of the existence of Bonny and Clyde, you already know how this one ends up anyway.
Should I watch it?
Normally, I enjoy these takes on historical moments that have certain elements that the general public are likely not aware of but in this particular case, I don't really feel as though there are enough breakthrough moments and interesting scenarios that happen during the over 2-hour runtime to really keep the average person entertained. Woody and Kevin are two of the best of making long speeches that would be mundane by most other people turn exciting, but too much is asked of them in these roles and you will find yourself frequently bored, despite the set pieces the director did his best with to attempt to make entertaining.
I frequently felt myself bored and looking at my phone and this is never a good sign. Therefore, I can only give this one a "maybe,"

Movies generally lack originality when trying to create fiction or false realities and this is perfect for viewers looking for entertainment without giving much thought to the movie or drama background the movie or series may have.
When we are presented with movies based on real events, things definitely change completely and that is where things get subtle and the margin for error is minimal. Since there is tangible evidence that proves the facts and in this way the producer or writer of the film or series can not go out of context or ignore the timeline of the events present in the story.
Las películas generalmente carecen de originalidad cuando tratan de crear ficción o realidades falsas y esto es perfecto para los espectadores que buscan entretenimiento sin pensar mucho en el trasfondo de la película o el drama que pueda tener la película o serie.
Cuando nos presentan películas basadas en hechos reales las cosas definitivamente cambian por completo y es donde las cosas se ponen sutiles y el margen de error es mínimo. Ya que existen pruebas tangibles que demuestran los hechos y de esta forma el productor o escritor de la película o serie no se puede salir de contexto o pasar por alto la línea de tiempo de los acontecimientos presentes en la historia.

WHAT IS THE FILM ABOUT [WITHOUT SPOILERS]
Everything revolves around the persecution of Bonnie and Clyde by ex-rangers from Texas, Frank Hamer and Maney Gault, who must capture this criminal couple alive or dead. Everything develops slowly, as they must follow in the footsteps of two very intelligent individuals who will not get caught so easily.
It all begins with the escape of some prisoners from the town jail which was accompanied by the criminal couple who served as transport for the escape.
The ex-rangers will have to play with the time against him and especially the problems of being inactive for so much time of the service.

During the chase they create patterns that each time bring them closer to Bonnie and Clyde, but they are not successful, since they are always in the shadow of the people who follow them and see them as the saviors of the town. This makes the job of the Rangers more difficult.
They must work with the help of informants to be closer and closer to them, but the situation will become more complicated with the intervention of the local police and the FBI that will not let the old Rangers work who will do their work at the old school.

THE GOOD
The interpretation of the main characters is carried out by Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson, who give us an idea of how good or bad the movie can be beforehand. In this case they keep things on the right track although they leave a little to be desired taking into account their trajectory.
The scenes are practically a copy of what happened in real life, based on the proper use of vehicles, gas stations, banks and squares. What gives the movie more value.
They show us what we need to know, there is no filler just a timeline. This can be boring, but it is what the story has told and is respected to the letter.
LO BUENO
La interpretación de los personajes principales es llevada a cabo por Kevin Costner y Woody Harrelson, que de ante mano nos dan una idea de lo buena o mala que pueda ser la película. En este caso llevan las cosas por buen camino aunque dejan un poco a desear tomando en cuenta su trayectoria.
Las escenas son prácticamente una copia de lo que pasó en ka vida real tomando como partida el uso adecuado de los vehículos, las gasolineras, bancos y plazas. Lo que le da más valor a la película.
Nos muestran lo que necesitamos saber, no existe rellenos solo una línea de tiempo. Esto puede aburrir, pero es lo que la historia a contado y se respeta al pie de la letra.
THE BAD
Investigating a bit I was able to find that the role of the Rangers was not exactly what they presented to us, since it shows us some men out of shape, which seems not to be what they are presented in the film.
We see a Bonnie and Clyde very ruthless and this seems to have a bit of exaggeration within the plot, since if they know their story or have been able to see the series where they tell us their story produced by History we can see big differences and if you read a little about them things can look a little different.
LO MALO
Investigando un poco pude encontrar que el papel de los Rangers no fue exactamente lo que nos presentaron, ya que nos muestra unos hombres fuera de forma, lo cual parece no ser tal cual se nos presenta en la película.
Vemos un Bonnie y Clyde muy despiadados y esto parece tener un poco de exageración dentro de la trama, ya que si conocen su historia o han podido ver la serie donde nos cuenta su historia producida por History podemos ver grandes diferencias y si lees un poco sobre ellos las cosas pueden pintar un poco diferentes.
MY RATING
The film does not have much to choose from, it is a film with only one objective and it is to present that little story that has not been told as perhaps it really happened, but that leaves you with the feeling that it is okay and that nothing more should be done.
But if this is the first time you hear about Bonnie and Clyde, the movie will not make sense to you and it will surely bore you from minute 5.
MI CALIFICACIÓN
La película no tiene mucho donde escoger, es una película con un solo objetivo y es presentar esa pequeña historia que no se ha contado como quizás realmente sucedió, pero que te deja con la sensación que está bien y que no se debe hacer más nada.
Pero si es la primera vez que escuchas sobre Bonnie y Clyde, la película no tendrá sentido para ti y de seguro te aburra desde el minuto 5.
Definitely the film deserves from my point of view a 7/10, it is subtle with its purpose, but it does not generate emotions in you which makes you want to reach the end just by not leaving anything halfway.
FINAL THOUGHT
History will always mark a before and after in each generation, where we will have it. Opportunity to know facts that changed the way of thinking of society and where the customs of each era will be key to see and understand the reasons why things or events that changed the history of a society happen.
Definitivamente la película merece desde mi punto de vista un 7/10, es sutil con su propósito, pero no genera emociones en ti lo cual lo hace que quieras llegar al final solo por no dejar nada a medias.
PENSAMIENTO FINAL
La historia siempre marcará un antes y después en cada generación, donde tendremos la. Oportunidad de conocer hechos que cambiaron la forma de pensar de la sociedad y donde las costumbres de cada época serán clave para ver y entender las razones de por qué ocurren las cosas o sucesos que cambiaron la historia de una sociedad.
Bonnie and Clyde, are the living example that we are destined for an end which is built by us and regardless of the path we take, there will always be consequences.
