Review: The Invisible Guardian [ESP/ING]@marijo01656d
One of my favorite hobbies is to watch movies and discover certain little gems that at some point I let pass under the table, the truth is that I don't know what it is about these Spanish movies that catch me in an incredible way. So without further ado, I'll tell you my review of The Invisible Guardian.

I'll try not to fall into spoilers as usual but it will be a little difficult so I hope you have a little patience, I'll start by saying that it is a super excellent and shocking work, with a suspense that keeps you trapped until the final outcome, which is based on the contrast between the rational elements with scientific basis and mythical touches that give it a magical air!
This movie is about a crime that happened in the quiet town of Elizondo, where a horrific event starts an investigation to find a serial killer who tries to "give a message" to the youth of the town, which moves between myths and legends, there came a point in the movie where I was so anxious with what could happen because I was confusing the fiction of the stories about dark and macabre manifestations with the reality (distorted) of a sick mind! I also want to point out that they knew how to relate all the elements perfectly to keep me trapped trying to guess what was going to happen, I can assure with my eyes closed that if you are a fan of mystery movies you are going to love this movie because despite having certain elements that give it a different touch and a little fresh because it includes a lot of Basque mythology.
In relation to the actors I can say that despite not being so well known their performances are quite good, the protagonist in particular has some deficiencies in some scenes but overall she worked quite well developing her role. Now let's talk about something that really caught my attention and that is the scenery, this movie is full of scenes with beautiful but terrifying landscapes, there was always a somewhat dim or foggy lighting that definitely put the whole situation in context, I loved that detail.
This was my summary of the first movie of this trilogy, I hope soon to be sharing with you another post where I talked about the other 2 movies that are missing and I really hope they are as great as this one.
Inspectora). Destacan en el reparto: Elvira Mínguez (Flora Salazar, hermana de Amaia), Francesc Orella: (Fermín Montes. Inspector), Carlos Librado (Jonan Etxaide, subinspector, compañero de Amaia) y Pedro Casablanc (Comisario).
The Invisible Guardian
The first image presented to us by The Invisible Guardian is a thick, crisp, sweet reflection that foreshadows...mystery, suspense are on the way. With a photography and landscapes that give pleasure, The Invisible Guardian (2017), is a Spanish film of the suspense-police genre based on the book by the writer Dolores Redondo, directed by Fernando González Molina and as cinematographer Flavio Martínez Labiano.
Starring Marta Etura (Amaia Salazar. Inspector). The cast includes: Elvira Mínguez (Flora Salazar, Amaia's sister), Francesc Orella: (Fermín Montes, Inspector), Carlos Librado (Jonan Etxaide, sub-inspector, Amaia's partner) and Pedro Casablanc (Commissioner).
The plot
In a town with an atmosphere full of mystery and esotericism, a crime takes place that is related to another one occurred in a nearby capital. The inspector Amaia, who was in charge of the first crime, finds a relationship with the second one and is led to believe that it is a serial killer. The commissioner puts her in charge of the investigation and sends her to the town.
It is her hometown, to which she has not returned for a long time. However, other murders occur and the investigation takes her back to her origins, to a very traumatic experience as a child, with an abusive mother and a protective father who tries to take care of her, but only when things get too tragic does he take her out of the house and takes her to live with an aunt.
In her return, the familiar is mixed with the professional and in a town dominated by supernatural beliefs, the director, is wrapping the plot in the same nebulous that photography frece us, where nothing is clearly seen. Plot and photography go at such a rhythm that they make a perfect dance. The Invisible Guardian is a film that does its job, it fills you with suspense and you easily get into the game of investigation by tying up loose ends and making assumptions.
The film is part of "The Bazta Trilogy". The second installment is "Legacy in the Bones", a book I read some time ago, I hope to see the movie this week and I will tell you about my impressions.

Intentional comment
Lately I am very sensitized to the subject of female stereotypes. The Invisible Guardian, shows us a serial killer whose fixation and madness is the purity of women, a theme that we have seen many times, where everyone builds a context to show us how this social construction that defines what "being a woman" is can manifest and when that ideal does not correspond to the particular reality unleashes social and personal judgments and prejudices.
Another stereotype that we have very marked is that of the mother and in the film, a mother breaks with what is known and expected, something that for most is inconceivable, because being a mother and feeling aversion for the child is completely incompatible. What is assumed and acceptable, from the outset, is the awakening of love for that being that comes from you. When you encounter a different version of this "motherhood" that, socioculturally, we handle, the result is a reflexive questioning about why these things happen.
As you can see, I loved the movie, if the subject calls to you I hope you will see it and enjoy it.
›The Invisible Guardian - Spanish crime-mystery film with decent plot and setting@dedicatedguy2261d
A few days ago I discovered this interesting Spanish mystery trilogy and decided to start watching it. So far, only 2 of the 3 movies have been released and the third one should be released later this year.
I just watched the first movie and it was quite cool. The story is about a female cop that goes back to her hometown to investigate the murder of a teenage girl. She is a very talented officer because she worked for the FBI in the past. This murder appeared to have followed a kind of a superstitious procedure because the way the body was placed for others to find wasn't normal. It wasn't creepy either so the movie doesn't belong in the suspense genre.
The setting was good. It is in Spain but since it had what appears to be nonstop rain I thought the weather was more similar to that of the UK. Perhaps Spain also has places where rain never stops. The scenography was well-done, with nicely done shots in the woods and cool camera angles here and there.
I suspect that in the following movies, the movie will at least dips its toes in the fantasy genre. Or at least this was implied in the first movie. It could provide new interesting plotlines to this well-written mystery. Even though the main topic is the police investigation of not only the first murder but others that follow a similar pattern, in several parts it is mentioned the possibility of the murders being the result of some type of strange creature.
Luckily, the second movie is already available so we can see what this is all about but the third movie is still months away. So far, the story has been very enjoyable. There is a good twist that wasn't very hard to see coming but the ending still has some surprises for us. The acting was nice with 2 well-known faces for the fans of Money Heist.
It is not the best movie about hunting a serial killer that I have watched, but it is good enough to enjoy it. Besides, the fact it is a trilogy makes the story even more complex and allows for the possibility to reach into topics that require more time to properly develop, like the potential inclusion of mythological parts of the mystery. This might happen in the second movie and I will confirm this in tomorrow's article.
The main attraction so far is the well-written mystery and the good quality of the movie. So, for people that enjoy mysteries and movies like Zodiac then this trilogy is a good option to watch.
The best
Good plot, setting, atmosphere, and acting.
Some dark moments and acceptable twist even though it didn't surprise me.
There is more to come but the crime that is being investigated has its proper ending.
The worst
I never felt very scared or intrigued about the murderer, the intensity wasn't that high.
The constant rain might have been an exaggeration.
The mythological part of the story was only teased. This should be properly explored in the second movie. Otherwise, it would be disappointing.
