Psychological thrillers often thrive on moral dilemmas, and this one, directed by Veena Sud, attempts to explore just how far parents would go to protect their child no matter how grave the child’s offense is. With a slow-burning narrative, an eerie atmosphere and an unsettling premise, this movie sets itself up as an intense family drama wrapped in a web of deception. And of course it pissed me off a whole lot because I was left to wonder if really a child can go as far as telling a lie that comes at great cost, harming the parent(s).
Synopsis
The story follows Jay and Rebecca, a divorced couple whose teenage daughter, Kayla (Joey King), confesses to pushing her best friend, Brittany, off a bridge during a moment of rage. Horrified and desperate to keep their daughter out of trouble, Jay and Rebecca decide to cover up the crime, by weaving a complicated lie that soon spirals out of control.
As the missing girl’s father, Sam, starts searching for answers, the tension mounts as his suspicions revolve around Kayla. Lies build upon lies, and Kayla's parents find themselves sinking deeper into deception, turning against each other and making reckless choices. But when the truth finally unravels, it weakens their knees and leaves them speechless.
Review & Personal Criticism
“Would you cover up murder for your child”? Was the question I kept asking myself when I got to the climax of this film. In all honesty, I wouldn’t because a child who could deliberately murder anyone can equally murder me. I wouldn’t take such chances.
Objectively, this film excels at building suspense. I was actually kept engaged as the parents struggled with their moral compass. Peter Sarsgaard(Jay) and Mireille Enos(Rebecca) deliver compelling performances, convincingly portraying parents caught between panic and protectiveness. Joey King also brings a chilling ambiguity to Kayla, making her a character that is difficult to read; innocent one moment, manipulative the next. I won’t lie, her character infuriated me.
Anyway, the film effectively plays with tension, creating an eerie, unsettling tone that keeps you wondering how far Jay and Rebecca will go. It also highlights the dangers of impulsive decisions and the snowball effect of dishonesty, making for an interesting psychological study.
However, where this film stumbles is in its pacing and final reveal. It builds up an intense atmosphere, only to undercut it with an ending that was frustrating rather than shocking. I did not appreciate its twist at all. It seems like a cheap resolution that weakens the impact of everything leading up to it. Matter of fact, the twist doesn’t make any sense to me. This movie also stretches the believability of the parents’ actions, making some of their decisions feel forced rather than natural because wtaf? No child can put me under such pressure while acting unremorseful. If a child can think of committing murder, then he or she should be ready to face the law as an adult.
All in all, The Lie is an intriguing thriller that explores the dark side of parental love and deception. While it sorta delivers solid performances and an eerie atmosphere, its slow pacing and divisive ending wasn’t satisfying. It’s one of those films that raises compelling moral questions but stumbles in its resolution.

Buenas buenas comunidad de #MoviesAndTVShows. Por aquí estoy nuevamente para dar mi opinión acerca de esta película llamada Juegos Peligrosos o The Lie.
Hace tiempo mis padres vieron ésta película y me la habian recomendado pero yo honestamente no estaba como de ánimos para verla, sin embargo siempre la tenía pendiente en mi lista por ver. Yo generalmente suelo ser bastante quisquillosa y selectiva con lo que veo. Si los primeros 10 minutos no me atrapa la historia, la cambio o la quito. Y últimamente he visto unas cuantas películas de Terror/Suspenso que me han resultado bastante malas de acuerdo a mis gustos y lo que busco ver en una película que realmente vale la pena.
Esta película en cambio, me pareció bastante interesante y justamente como a los 10 minutos terminó por engancharme, así que me propuse a verla completa. La sinopsis, la tomé de la página SensaCine, la cual no indica spilers pero si la trama que es:
Kayla (Joey King) y su padre van de camino al campamento cuando, de pronto, ven a la mejor amiga de la joven yendo hacia allí también a pie. Deciden invitarla al coche y hacer una parada en el baño antes de emprender la marcha. Pero una de ellas nunca vuelve. Ahora, los padres de Kayla tendrán que lidiar con el error mortal que ha cometido su hija, llegando a límites insospechados por protegerla.
Yo empecé a verla desconociendo los actores que trabajaban en ella y me sorprendí mucho al verlos a todos reunidos en esta entrega. Para mí, todo estuvieron excelentes y le dieron su toque personal a cada personaje. Sin embargo, de todos, creo que la actuación que destacó más aquí fue la de la actriz Joey King, quien protagoniza el film.
Los padres de la protagonista son interpretados por Peter Sarsgaard y Mireille Enos. Quienes dan vida a Jay y Rebecca respectivamente. La mejor amiga de la protagonista y su padre también trabajaron excelente.
Si gustas verla, la consigues en Amazon Prime. La película es del 2018. Como comenté anteriormente, soy bastante quisquillosa con lo que me dispongo a ver como película o serie. Tomo en cuenta también el director que la realiza y los films que hizo anteriormente. Por lo general me han recomendado películas quee de verdad no me llegan a gustar, más que todo porque no tienen sentido. Yo siempre le busco la lógica a las cosas y si no tiene sentido algo, yo simplemente lo descarto. Si eres como yo en ese aspecto entonces, ésta película es para ti.
Esta película para mí, tuvo un buen inicio, continuó bien y el final fue totalmente inesperado y fuera de lugar, tanto que le deja a uno un mal sabor o es considerado de mal gusto. A mi me causó tanta impresión que básicamente le quita las ganas a uno de tener hijos.
A mi me gustó mucho la trama, resulta intrigante y con mucho suspenso, uno no sabe lo que va a pasar después ni cómo terminarán las cosas. Tiene bastante drama y la situación que vive esta familia es bastante estresante. Te mantiene atento y no resulta aburrido en ningún momento.
Yo le doy una puntuación de 7/10 porque el desenlace no me lo esperaba, la película lo deja a uno reflexionando sobre lo que sucedió y pues por las críticas que leí en FilmAffinity, a la mayoría no le gustó por la misma razón que considero yo y es el final inesperado. Igual la recomiendo y definitivamente la volvería a ver, aunque no más de dos veces.

A while ago my parents saw this movie and recommended it to me but I honestly wasn't in the mood to watch it, however, I always had it on my to-watch list. I'm usually pretty picky and selective about what I watch. If the first 10 minutes don't grab me the story, I change it or take it off. And lately, I've seen a few Horror/Suspense movies that I've found to be pretty bad according to my tastes and what I'm looking to see in a movie that's worth watching.
This movie, on the other hand, seemed quite interesting to me and after about 10 minutes I was hooked, so I decided to watch it in its entirety. The synopsis, I took it from the page SensaCine, which does not indicate spoilers but the plot which is:
Kayla (Joey King) and her father are on their way to the camp when they suddenly see the girl's best friend on her way there on foot. They invite her into the car and make a bathroom stop before setting off. But one of them never returns. Now, Kayla's parents will have to deal with the deadly mistake their daughter has made, going to unimaginable lengths to protect her.
I started watching it not knowing the actors who worked in it and I was shocked to see them all together in this installment. For me, they were all excellent and gave their personal touch to each character. However, out of all of them, I think the performance that stood out the most here was that of actress Joey King, who stars in the film.
The parents of the protagonist are played by Peter Sarsgaard and Mireille Enos. Who brings to life Jay and Rebecca. The protagonist's best friend and her father also did excellent work.
If you'd like to see it, you can get it on Amazon Prime. The movie is from 2018. As I mentioned before, I am quite picky about what I choose to watch as a film or series. I also take into account the director who makes it and the films he/she has made before. I have usually been recommended movies that I don't like, mostly because they don't make sense. I always look for logic in things and if something doesn't make sense, I just discard it. If you're like me in that respect then this movie is for you.
This movie for me, had a good beginning, continued well and the ending was unexpected and out of place, so much so that it leaves one with a bad taste or is considered in bad taste. It made such an impression on me that it takes away one's desire to have children.
I liked the plot, it is intriguing and suspenseful, you don't know what will happen next or how things will end. It has a lot of drama and the situation that this family lives in is quite stressful. It keeps you attentive and is not boring at any time.
I give it a score of 7/10 because I didn't expect the outcome, the movie leaves you thinking about what happened, and from the reviews I read on FilmAffinity, most of them didn't like it for the same reason I consider and that is the unexpected ending. I still recommend it and I would watch it again, but not more than twice.

An infinite number of films play with the thriller genre, giving life to movies like FRACTURED, A QUIET PLACE, RUN, which use deception to perfection and envelop you from beginning to end. When a film achieves this result it is very difficult for the viewer to get up from the couch or pause to go get a drink of water.
When a film of this type engages me I can be sure that I will not waste a second of my time and that at the end I will be left with a good taste in my mouth. Months ago a movie buff in the community recommended me to watch THE LIE which according to his recommendation and review of it, has a great PLOT TWIST. I recently had the opportunity to see it and I can assure you that it has an interesting twist, but besides that it has something that can catch you if you are attentive enough and see beyond what the film presents.

Una infinidad de películas juegan con el género thriller, dando vida a películas como FRACTURED, A QUIET PLACE, RUN, las cuales usan a la perfección el engaño y te envuelven de inicio a final. Cuando una película logra este resultado es muy difícil que el espectador se levante del sofá o ponga pausa para ir a tomar agua.
Cuando una película de este tipo me engancha puedo estar seguro de que no perderé ni un segundo de mi tiempo y que al final quedaré con un buen sabor de boca. Hace meses un cinéfilo de la comunidad me recomendó que viera THE LIE la cual según su recomendación y reseña de la misma, tiene un gran PLOT TWIST. Hace poco tuve la oportunidad de verla y puedo asegurar que tiene un giro interésate, pero además de eso cuenta con algo que te puede atrapar si eres lo suficientemente atento y ves más allá de lo que te presenta la película.

It has an interesting story and on a psycho-social level it shows us how people act when their backs are against the wall and regardless of the consequences or the severity of the facts they can make such brutal decisions that in a matter of seconds their lives can change completely.
THE LEI could be said to be a Psychological Thriller to a certain extent, which manages to confuse the viewer until the end, leaving little clues along the way that usually do not help much to understand what happens and as the film progresses tension, nerves and anguish takes over every scene showing a harsh reality.

We meet a small family going through a family breakup where a young girl named Kayla played by (Joey King) must face the fact that her parents are no longer together. So she spends time together with her parents.

🇪🇸 Los padres impactados por lo que acaba de ocurrir intentan pensar qué decir ante una posible visita de la policía o del padre de Brittany quien de seguro estará buscando a su hija. Todo gira alrededor de una maraña de mentiras, que los padres idearon para cuidar a su hija, pero esto toma un ritmo acelerado cuando se ven contra la pared y cada una de sus mentiras sale a la luz y no queda más remedio que actuar desesperadamente para evitar lo inevitable.

MY OPINION ABOUT THE FILM
REALITY SURPASSES FICTION
This movie goes deep into the depths of human behavior, where feelings of love and hate come to life and shows us the harsh reality of a confused mind that without realizing it creates such crazy realities that it is impossible to differentiate what is real from what is not.
As I watched the movie and learned a little more about the main characters, I could understand the psychological part of the plot and how confusing this can be in a person who lacks feelings or empathy for other people and that in reality can be seen, not often, but it is something normal in few people around us. This kind of situations seem so far-fetched that it would be very strange just to think about it, but the director and screenwriter (Veena Sud) went much further showing us that deep and dark side of the human being, who tries to get attention or protect what he loves no matter the blood that may run through his hands.
This is great, since few take the risk to show that reality that is part of our society and people who suffer deep inside from anxiety or personality disorders, each character in the film shows what each person would be willing to do under extreme situations.
🇪🇸 > MI OPINIÓN SOBRE LA PELÍCULA
LA REALIDAD SUPERA LA FICCIÓN
Esta película se introduce en lo más profundo del comportamiento humano, donde los sentimientos de amor y odio cobran vida y nos muestra la cruda realidad de una mente confusa y que sin darnos cuenta crea realidades tan locas que es imposible diferenciar lo real de lo que no lo es.
Mientras veía la película y conocía un poco más sobre los personajes principales, pude comprende la parte psicológica de la trama y lo confuso que esto puede ser en una persona que carece de sentimientos o empatía por las otras personas y que en la realidad puede verse, no con frecuencia, pero si es algo normal en pocas personas a nuestro alrededor. Este tipo de situaciones parecen tan descabelladas que sería muy extraño el simple hecho de pensar en ello, pero la directora y guionista (Veena Sud) fue mucho más allá mostrándonos ese lado profundo y oscuro del ser humano, que intenta llamar la atención o proteger lo que ama sin importar la sangre que pueda correr por sus manos.
Esto es genial, ya que pocos se arriesgan a mostrar esa realidad que forma parte de nuestra sociedad y de personas que sufren en lo más profundo de ansiedad o trastornos de personalidad, cada personaje dentro de la película muestra lo que cada persona estaría dispuesta hacer bajo situaciones extremas.
A GREAT PLOT TWIST
The pace is so fast that you think that everything will come to an end immediately and that there will be no way for things to change direction in the face of situations so clear that you can predict some situations that arise in the film, but as you get closer to the end you realize that everything has a changing rhythm and that everything that the main characters went through is just the tip of the iceberg.
You ask yourself the following questions; will the girl go to jail?, do the parents understand that there is no way out of this situation?, what are they waiting for to tell the truth?, all these questions invade your head and seeing how each one of them is answered in a vague way leaves you with that feeling that everything will end very badly to a point of no return and emotions play an important role.
Even more when it comes to the 180 degree turn that leaves you with your mouth open and with only one thought; What happened?, it is here where we understand that we were never on the right path and that they played with your head from start to finish.
LET'S TALK ABOUT THE CHARACTERS
The movie has several characters that are an important part of the story but to a certain extent, as they only function as a bridge to connect with situations that shape the story. I will focus on the characters that obviously are the most important and give life to the story, but focusing on the human side and what I could perceive of each of them.
Rebecca (Mireille Enos), is a character with a very adjective personality, who understands what is happening around her and tries to find the right way out in a situation that puts her against the wall, this character left me the message that if life gets complicated you must act quickly and that if you hesitate for a second you may end up against the wall and drowning in your regrets.
🇪🇸 UN GRAN PLOT TWIST
El ritmo es tan acelerado que crees que todo llegara a un fin de manera inmediata y que no habrá la manera de que las cosas cambien de dirección ante situaciones tan claras que puedes predecir algunas situaciones que se presentan en la película, pero cuando más te acercas al final te das cuenta de que todo lleva un ritmo cambiante y que todo por lo que pasaron los personajes principales es solo la punta del iceberg.
Te haces las siguientes preguntas; ¿la chica irá a la cárcel?, ¿los padres entienden que ya no hay salida para esta situación?, ¿Qué esperan para decir la verdad?, todas estas interrogantes invaden tu cabeza y ver cómo cada una de ellas es respondida de manera vaga te deja esa sensación de que todo terminará muy mal hasta un punto sin retorno y las emociones juegan un papel importante.
Aún más cuando llega el giro de 180 grados que te deja con la boca abierta y con un solo pensamiento; ¿Qué fue lo que pasó?, es aquí donde entendemos que nunca estuvimos en el camino correcto y que jugaron con tu cabeza de inicio a fin.
HABLEMOS DE LOS PERSONAJES
La película cuenta con varios personajes que son parte importante de la historia pero hasta cierto punto, ya que solo funcionan como puente para conectar con situaciones que le dan forma a la historia. Me enfocaré en los personajes que obviamente son los más importantes y le dan vida a la historia, pero enfocándome en la parte humana y lo que yo pude percibir de cada uno de ellos.
Rebecca (Mireille Enos), es un personaje con una personalidad muy adjetiva, que entiende lo que pasa a su alrededor e intenta buscar la salida correcta ante una situación que la pone contra la pared, este personaje me dejó el mensaje de que si la vida se complica se debe actuar rápidamente y que si dudas por un segundo puede que termines contra la pared y ahogándote en tus lamentos.

She is the typical character that turns everything around her into chaos and only at the end she realizes that she was the only one responsible for the madness she was causing.

DO I RECOMMEND IT?
Yes definitely yes, it is very engaging story telling and if you immerse yourself enough you can go climbing through the emotions of each character, maybe it won't blow your mind, but it will leave you wanting the ending to be not so shocking and make you think beyond the obvious.
It takes time to understand the rhythm of each scene, but if you give it a chance to develop you might be entertained, just trying to put together your own lies of how you would get out of the situation, in summary I liked it a lot, I still wish they had given more development to the character of Brittany which would have had more impact on the viewer.
If you want to let your imagination run wild, I recommend it without a doubt.

We come across such different realities and personalities that leave weird emotions in each of us, I tend to think that the world around us has two meanings, do what your heart says or go with the flow of others, but when you fall into a dead end pit all that changes direction and you must consider if the right thing to do is always the way out or doing the opposite to save your interests or family is what you should do when faced with any situation.
This can be confusing to many and the reality is that human beings are emotional beings who live every second on the edge, this can be positive or negative within a society with values and principles so similar, but when they are up against the wall they forget it and only look for the easiest way to change their reality.

Sí definitivamente sí, es muy atractiva la historia que nos cuenta y si te sumerges lo suficiente puedes ir escalando a través de las emociones de cada personaje, quizás no te vuela la cabeza, pero si te dejara con ganas de que el final no sea tan impactante y te haga pensar más allá de lo evidente.
Toma su tiempo entender el ritmo de cada escena, pero si le das la oportunidad de que se desarrolle puede que te entretengas, solo intentando armar tus propias mentiras de como te saldrías de dicha situación, en resumen me gustó mucho, aun quede con ganas de que le hubieran dado más desarrollo al personaje de Brittany lo cual hubiera impactado más en el espectador.
Si quieres poner a volar tu imaginación, te la recomiendo sin duda alguna.

Nos topamos con realidades tan distintas y personalidades que dejan emociones raras en cada uno de nosotros, suelo pensar que el mundo que nos rodea tiene dos significados, hacer lo que dice tu corazón o ir al ritmo de los demás, pero cuando caes en un pozo sin salida todo eso cambia de dirección y debes tener en cuenta si lo correcto siempre es la salida o hacer lo contrario para salvar tus intereses o familia es lo que deberías hacer ante cualquier situación.
Esto puede confundir a muchos y la realidad es que los seres humanos somos seres emocionales que vivimos cada segundo al límite, esto puede ser positivo como negativo dentro de una sociedad con valores y principios tan parecidos, pero que cuando están contra la pared lo olvidan y solo buscan el camino más fácil para cambiar su realidad.
