  1. 🎬️ Movie: The Mountain Between Us from 2017 🎬️@avatara663d

Hi everyone, wanted to see a survival movie. Directed by Hany Abu-Assad, this film is a survival drama with suspense and romance. Reminds me of the movie Alive.😃

After a plane crash, the film follows two strangers Alex played by Kate Winslet, and Ben played by Idris Elba. The opening is cool with the back end of the plane tearing off and them being stranded in a desolate snowy mountain area. The good thing about snow is that you always have water, the most important thing if you have to survive, right? The problem is the cold in that case. And here they must work together to survive and help each other in extreme conditions and find their way back to civilization. The acting performances are good and their chemistry, the sense of isolation and danger keeps it engaged. Visually, the film is also good with great scenery and cool effects. The story itself is good but the script lacks depth, and the film struggles to balance survival and romance. So it will be a 6 from me.

    Here is a trailer.🎬️

H Haggis adapted his solid direction to grand vistas with The Mountain Between Us, squeezing a lush emotional melodrama out of dire circumstances in majestic locations.

Idris Elba and Kate Winslet impressed as strangers forced to rely on each other for survival after their plane crashes in an unforgiving desert: a budding respect that becomes an attraction that defies all preconceptions.

    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=745227)

Veteran and distinguished cinematographer Eduard Grau immersed the audience in Haggis‘ vision, deploying breathtakingly expansive photography to complement the characters’ growing vulnerability and resilience in the face of breathtaking panoramas.

Despite its imperfections, The Mountain Between Us became a gripping and thought-provoking experience, addressing the ephemeral nature of life through the cruelty of circumstance in contrast to humanity's brilliant ability to come together in the face of any hardship, finding purpose through compassion.

Though perhaps too sincerely sentimental for some, Haggis' film stimulates a visceral reaction and a deeper reflection on resilience, redemption and why some souls were meant to find each other across any mountain, or divided planet.

A passenger plane crashes and the survivors struggle to survive in the cold, snow-covered mountains. The last movie I saw with such a story was Society of the Snow, which was inspired by a real event and was quite successful.

The last movie I watched with the same theme was The Mountain Between Us from 2017. Unlike similar movies, the story, which is based entirely on fiction, focuses on how cruel natural conditions can force a human life. I have said before that I have a tendency to watch every production where a similar struggle for life against nature takes place.

I watched the movie and the first thing I would like to say is that the story is more successful because of the fewer characters. I won't hide the fact that I had a preconceived notion that the movie would be boring with a man and a woman surviving the plane crash, but I'm happy to say that I was wrong.

The struggle and solidarity of the two characters to survive was worth watching. The brutal and harsh natural conditions, but also the scenes accompanied by the scenery that turned into a visual feast, gave me incredible pleasure in every moment.

It seemed inevitable that the characters would grow closer as they worked against the clock and in fear of dying at any moment. There were moments when the attraction between them transformed the movie from a mere struggle for survival against nature into a love movie. I would like to state that this added extra flavor to the story.

Idris Elba, who gave life to the character of Dr. Ben Bass, was the more dominant and prominent person of the film in terms of acting. I would like to say that his overall performance was magnificent. His character performance from the moment of the accident to the moment they survived was extraordinary. His passive appearance of not pursuing his love after they survived was disappointing.

Kate Winslet, who gives life to the female character Alex Martin, successfully reflected the weak personality with her more fragile and passive appearance in terms of determination to survive in harsh natural conditions. She also showed the opposite character stance with her image of a woman in love.

Throughout The Mountain Between Us, watching Idris Elba and Kate Winslet was more of an obligation than a choice because almost the entire movie takes place between the characters that these two actors bring to life. I can't say that I'm complaining about this because both of them set an example with their harmonious and solidarity, covering each other's shortcomings.

I recommend watching the movie especially for those who love the tough life struggles against nature. The fact that the story also includes love is an advantage of the script and creates more options for the viewers. It allows you to enjoy it more.

  4. The Mountain Between Us - Movie Review@coldsteem3186d

    mountain.png

I picked The Mountain Between Us for my second Moviepass film because I thought it was a disaster film. I got the disaster part right. The film is a chick flick. It is a Harlequin-y romance. I am surprised that such a sappy film drew talent like Idris Elba (known more for his action films) and Kate Winslet. The film isn't a total loser, particularly if you like the genre. But it definitely was not what I was expecting.

    mount2.jpg

When storms cause flight cancellations from Idaho into Denver, photographer Alex Martin (Winslet) books a flight on a charter. Realizing that fellow passenger Ben Bass (Elba) is going the same direction, she offers him the opportunity to share the flight. The pilot, Walter (Beau Bridges) does not file a flight plan for the short daylight hop over to Denver. The trio load up in the aircraft with Walter's dog for the flight. Walter suffers a stroke/heart attack during the flight, causing the small aircraft to crash high in the mountains. Bass and Martin are forced to rely upon each other to survive as they navigate the hazards of the steep, snowy mountains in search of help. Along the treacherous journey, they discover a deep common bond that connects them.

    mount3.jpg

I covered my fundamental issue with this film. The script was fairly shallow and Harlequinesque. It was more love story than it was about survival. And it was a cheesy love story at times. Complete with the "running into each other's arms" ending. Weak. Predictable. Cloying. There were some redeeming qualities to this film. First, there was the acting. While working with a cheesy script, these veteran actors did an excellent job. I believe this may be Elba's first chick flick, but he made the transition easily enough. I had no issue with the performances. I also really enjoyed the scenery. The cinematography was breathtaking at times.

    mount4.jpg

The MPAA rated The Mountain Between Us with a PG-13 rating based on sexuality, a mild (nudity free) sex scene, some violence, tense situations and language. For the most part, this film was tame. There wasn't much steam to make the sex scene "steamy" and there was no nudity. Although Winslet was sporting a see-through top. The violence and danger aspects of this film were also mild. I would have liked to see more tension. A bit more danger, violence or suspense.

    mount5.jpg

I give The Mountain Between Us the mildest recommendation I can give. That means definitely wait until it is streaming on video. Wait for a rainy day when nothing else is on. And don't mistake this film for a disaster film. It is a romance. And not necessarily a good one. There are some redeeming qualities. The casting was exceptional and the actors seemed to have genuine chemistry. Which is pretty dang important for a love story. The scenery was probably my favorite aspect of this film. Other than that, I was disappointed. 5.5/10.
