  1. The Nice Guys: This movie deserves a sequel@freddbrito267d

Not long ago I saw a video that was about "movies that deserve a sequel", in that video there were movies that I already knew and had seen, others that I knew but I wasn't interested in seeing and then there was the movie that I will talk about today: The Nice Guys and after having seen it, it is indeed a movie that needs and deserves a sequel, but I think that because it is a 2016 movie and being already almost in 2026, it seems to me that that sequel will not be able to be made and I really would have liked them to make it because it is a pretty good movie and it fits perfectly with my style of humor.

The Nice Guys is a film that perfectly mixes police cinema with black and absurd humor, but also under this humorous genre there is also a plot where the protagonists must solve a crime of corruption. The story follows the duo of protagonists played by Ryan Gosling and Russell Crow, while Gosling is a private detective, Holland March character plays a character full of mistakes and family problems and Crowe's character named Jackson Healy is a character characterized by being a tough guy and his job is to take on jobs such as intimidating people for hire. This duo of protagonists who at the beginning have a somewhat violent encounter, are involved in a system of corruption quite deep and dangerous which they must take care of solving it.

This duo of protagonists must take on the case of the disappearance of a woman, which although it might seem a "simple" case, as I said before, under that facade is a wide network of corruption involving the head of the police department, pornography and murder. The chemistry of the characters played by Ryan Gosling and Russell Crow is palpable, their obvious differences but at the same time similarities make the story develops in an enjoyable, entertaining and funny way, plus we will be able to witness by these characters and others, a story full of humor and absurd moments.

Ryan Gosling's character manages to create a pretty good physical humor, your acting work with this character is worthy of the most classic films of this genre, while the character played by Crow brings rudeness, violence, but in the background is a character quite honest for his duty, although with obvious imperfections, which make these two characters endear themselves quite easily. The dynamic we see in this film is quite classic, on the one hand we see a young man who although quite good in his branch of work, lacks certain experiences and on the other hand, we have a character with more years of experience and that brings a lot on the moral side and maturity.

What stands out the most about this film is its humor, it is its central axis and I really did not expect to have so much fun, it does not have stupid jokes, but under that absurdity it is quite intelligent, very ironic and full of black humor, but without getting tired, but it is balanced enough for everyone to see it. Really this is a movie that deserves a sequel and it's a shame that already being The Nice Guys a 2016 movie and already being in 2025 it hasn't had its deserved sequel let alone any sign that it's going to be made. But still this is a movie that is extremely worth watching and I would watch it a couple more times.

A couple of years ago I saw "The Nice Guys" for the first time and although I remember that it was quite a fun experience for me, I feel like I wasn't able to enjoy it as much as the other people I saw on the internet.

With the international premiere of Greta Gerwig's Barbie (which will have Ryan Gosling co-starring in the role of Ken alongside Margot Robbie) getting closer, I think it's a good time to get into one of the best roles in the world. Canadian actor, especially considering the comedic elements that plagued this riveting Shane Black film.

What I didn't expect when revisiting Nice Guys is that not only was I looking at a movie that blended drama, action, and comedy organically, but I genuinely consider it one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. , a logical consequence of having a quality script, two protagonists with a lot of chemistry, as well as a refreshing and entertaining premise that uses Los Angeles from the 70s as the setting for a crazy crime that we will unravel together with two detectives who can barely work together.

    the-nice-guys.jpg Source

For me the key to the nice guys is in the use of familiar elements that are deconstructed and presented in an ingenious way: The dynamics of a couple of men who can't stand each other but are forced to work as a team, the sequences of persecutions and shootings, or the very collection of clues and testimonies.

Ironically, this film's ability to not take itself seriously ends up filling it with a kind of "realism" that is difficult to describe, where it is easy to identify with the internal conflicts of its characters as we enjoy everything good and bad. What's happening to them.

I regret that this film does not receive a little more appreciation in the mainstream public, considering how well synthesized the story is and the way in which it clearly pays homage to filmmakers like the Cohen brothers, Tarantino or Martin Scorsese.

Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe do a terrific job as Holland March and Jackson Heally (respectively), and the same could be said for the entire supporting cast. We have drama, humor, action, slapstick and a couple of dialogues capable of making us fall into a brief existential crisis.

  3. Insomniac Movie Marathon: the nice guys@rvgenaille2397d

MV5BMTg5MDgwMjEwNl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMDMxODM5ODE@.V1_SX1500_CR0,0,1500,999_AL.jpg When I first heard of The Nice Guys, I looked forward to it with a combination of excitement and trepidation. Writer/director Shane Black was responsible for Lethal Weapon, The Last Boyscout and Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang and the story for this one sounded a little too close to that last one for my liking. Regardless I was looking forward to it as it was Shane Black directing Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe in a comic crime caper written by Black.

It is the 1970s and Gosling is Holland, a frequently drunk private investigator who depends on his 13 year old daughter to periodically drive him around, and Crowe is Jackson, a good guy goon for hire who targets Holland for seeking the whereabouts of a missing woman. This mystery collides with another mystery, the murder of a pornstar, which Holland is also investigating and the two of them, and Holland’s daughter, end up teaming up to solve the various threads, defeat the bad guys and save the day.

The movie is funny. A lot of the action stuff that Black made his name on is sent up here and the story doesn’t go where you expect it to go. I really enjoyed this flick and I think you should see it to. It did not do great in theatres, most likely because it was released during the summer months and was competing against the tentpole, blockbuster flicks that are released at that time. It is a throwback to a time when more affordable, more interesting films were still being made.

    Funny Stuff.

  6. "The Nice Guys" - movie review@godflesh3018d

Incompetent private detective Holland March (Ryan Gosling) and mercenary Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) are investigating the disappearance of a girl and the death of a porn star. Are they both connected and what the hell is going on? Marc's daughter (Bingwright Rice), despite her fragile age, is also eager to unravel the mystery. The missing girl is Amelia, and her mother (Kim Basinger) gives a nice and dear to find her. Shots with automobile factories, conspiracies, environmental protests to protect birds, and fear of assassins. Let's not talk about the plot, because I'm going to want my brain to burst. Shane Black and Anthony Bagaroz write the script back in 2001, but no studio accepts it. Five years later, they try to stretch it in a series, but the conditions are not good. Only now, after thirteen years of delay, there is one last attempt. Crow joins and the miracle happens. The inspiration for the "The Nice Guys" comes from old detective thrillers and kitsch crime novels that were sold at airports in the 50's and 60's (with cult illustrations by Robert McGinnis). Black is impressed by the craftsmanship that has been done in telling these stories. It is not about literature, but about engagement. How long will you keep your attention through masterfully executed schemes. Meanwhile, some of them sneak in subtext, become masterpieces of the genre.

    nice_guys_plakat2.jpg

Despite their popularity, few of them get quality adaptations. Only "Night Maneuvering", which can be qualified as one of the first neo noirs, stands out from the period. In it, Jean Heckman's character marks a significant change in the image of the private detective, depicting it with human weaknesses and flaws. The beloved generation of Americans Philip Marlowe begins to smell of a past era. Stories of men who, like Western characters, appear in the city, set them on fire, and give up their own justice, then leave, on the backdrop of flames, or after they have ordered (according to their ideas, of course). The two cowboys and the private detective are typically American and tell the same story in practice. According to Black, even "Lethal Weapon" carries the same western spirit. In his words it's a gunslinger story. "The Nice Guys" is immersed in the rebellious spirit of the 70's and draws with all the strengths (where successful, where not so much) of the freedom of classics, such as "Vanishing Point" and "Five Easy Pieces," which are bold and unpredictable films, often crossing the border, but effective because of their deep authenticity. The freedom they own is harsh and irreconcilable. Black picks up mostly from the series "The Rockford Files", which has a rather charming and light, butaphorous radiance. The cars, which play a major role in the film, directly recall "Bullet" and "The Seven-Ups". As a screenwriter, Black is to blame for numerous full-length combos. Those in "The Last Action Hero," "The Last Boyshot" and "The Long Kiss Goodnight" and especially the cult duo of "Lethal Weapon" (the second part of the series is probably the best buddy cop movie ever made). The wonderful "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" from 2005, which unfortunately was not financially successful, because of the fall of Val Kilmer's career and Robert Downey's recently released prison, is the closest thing to the current film.

"The Nice Guys" is a neo-noir who does not use the genre tropics, but mixes them with the seventeenth-colored spirit, wrapping them upside down, shaking and opening the cap. In a scene that uses all the rules and clichés, suddenly someone slips, another behaves defiantly with the villain, the third commented on what would have happened if it was a movie. It's fun because it makes you out of the comfort zone. It's very Deadpool-ish. March and Healey follow the tradition of Bush Cassidy and Sundance Kid, but are closer to Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. When Marc sees the discarded corpse of a porn producer with whom he has rolled out of the deck of a luxury house, his reaction is butaforous, he can irritate if you did not follow the hints of what you're looking at. In the first scene a boy gets out of bed to read a porn magazine, and a minute later a car goes by his house. When she goes to the wreckage, she sees Misty Mountains, the same porn actress she's seen before, standing in the same posture as in the magazine, this time dirty with blood and dying. The boy takes off his jacket and covers it. The essence of being a nice guy.

    maxresdefault.jpg

The blending of tones that directors rarely allow to do is a favorite activity of Shane Black. In the "The Nice Guys" we witness a clever switch between playfulness and seriousness. The movie is not sentimental, but even in some places it is extreme and raw, it retains its emotional core. Marc and Healey learn to be good people, there is nobility in them, they look like knights with battered armor. One sheds his helmet, the other slips over his buttocks with his rusty spear. Marc's relationship with his daughter also helps to look at the characters as more than just dolls of threads that only function to entertain us. Enjaer Rice is exceptional. Convincing in more dramatic scenes and flawless timing, she deserves to qualify in the list of most promising young actresses. The chemistry between her and Gosling, between Gosling and Crow, between Crow and ... his inner self. This is the heart of the movie, the hidden engine that makes the scenes effective. You like these characters, you want to watch them again. All are wonderful, but Gosling steals the show. I have not seen another sex symbol play such a convincing idiot. Maybe only George Clooney. The physical comedy he demonstrates reminds of the things that legendary Peter Sellers uses. Like in a scene in which Marc breaks a window by hand, it cuts off, makes him sick of the blood, slides down the stairs. Or the way he trembles in the elevator after seeing John Boy's skills (we have not yet discussed the "bad" because his appearance in the movie is almost as late as in the review). These effective scenes look like they're written without a movie and are actually written exactly as one of the few minuses of the movie. Black and Bagarosi have fun with the characters, create funny scenes with them, collect everything in a box, then review and discard what they did not like. This method creates great comedy episodes, but it hinders the end result. The film starts to look like a bunch of bows, the overall structure bends under the weight of the jokes.

  7. 'The Nice Guys' Review: A modern comedy done right@namiks3047d

    The Nice Guys.jpg

It's strange to consider just how versatile of an actor Ryan Gosling can be when he isn't playing a silent recluse with a perpetual state on confusion visible through his facial expressions.

La La Land felt like a step into a newer direction with his character showing more emotion and generally having a bit more dialogue than his other previous roles have, but like La La Land, it took me forever to finally sit down and watch The Nice Guys, despite receiving some heavy praise.

It's worth noting that the performance in The Nice Guys by Russell Crowe is especially engaging, with his career often feeling like a field of mines. His best works sticking to roles that display a dated time, with a dated set of rules of living. It's interesting to see him take a more modern role, and seeing it work so well.

Surprisingly, The Nice Guys doesn't sit on the back of its well-known actors and likable characters, but the writing that focuses on the rather than the story at large. Narrative structure is simplistic, having the story unfold to the viewer as the same time as the characters, allowing their dialogue and actions really take over; something that's often overlooked in modern comedies, where the focus is something funny at least every minute, with frequent pop culture references that luck substance.

For the most part, the film is your typical action-comedy setup: two opposites coming together to achieve the same goal, albeit for different reasons, with their conflicting personalities evident throughout. It takes a lot to pull off successfully, but The Nice Guys never oversteps and fully understands its boundaries. It's comedy is self-aware, and never feels forced, and its narrative is simple enough to follow without it feeling like too much of one or the other.

While the film is standalone, it almost feels as if it's preparing the viewer for more entries, and this film is simply establishing the world and its main characters, but fortunately, that isn't the case. Here's finally a modern comedy done right, in a genre that can be seen as a sea of try-hard attempts.
