It's no secret that the HBO series have been doing a wonderful job at the level of drama and suspense, giving us stories with a plot quality that compares to the best film productions that can be done right now, in fact I would dare say that the HBO series has even better plot quality than many of the films that big producers are betting on, yes, lately the films have taken very slow steps when it comes to building stories that catch us and build exciting stories. In short, I do all this preamble because I want to share my review of a really exciting and emotional series, a series that through typical scenes and situations manages to build a whole gloomy atmosphere where the feelings we feel for the protagonists are very diverse.

The fascinating thing about all this is the conditions in which this young girl is killed, because everything starts when she met a young Arab who was going to a party in his father's taxi and pick her up to serve as chauffeur. Basically what we have is a macabre storm of events that escalate and change the lives of two young people, one being murdered and the other being blamed for a super strange crime that nobody knows how it really happened. As I told you, a young man steals his father's taxi to go to a party but while he was at a traffic light a young woman enters the taxi and asks him to take her to various places, something this shy young man does, and God! Perhaps he shouldn't have done it because after his encounter with the young girl, a night would break out where little by little these two young people meet and end up starring in a night of excesses and lust in the girl's apartment, a night of lust that ends with the death of this poor girl. #

It is really impressive to see the evolution of a young man who enters being someone good but ends up becoming someone broken, addicted and with violent thoughts that from now on make him see and live life differently. #

[Youtube Screenshot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQL9HyMAm6M) # You could say that this is a very critical series, but the truth is that I didn't feel it so much, for me this series exposes in detail the common vices found in the American judicial system, a judicial system that often draws hasty conclusions but finally judges everyone equally (sometimes), What I mean is that although the main suspect here is a young man of Arab descent, we never see any hint of racism or very strong xenophobia, the young man receives the same corrupt treatment as the other inmates and is thrown into an abyss that totally transforms him.

The series does a great job at a plot level and in terms of character construction because we see a great diversity of genius interpretations that often steal the protagonism for how good and peculiar they are (The Lawyer). Undoubtedly a light series, entertaining and very well developed.

"The Night Of" is a suave remake of the British mini-series "Criminal Justice" with Ben Whishaw, so you could find out his story back in 2008. Along with citizenship, history changed, perhaps, social accents. The protagonist in the American version is a Pakistani student Naz Khan (Riz Ahmed), born and raised in Queens. One night, fellow students, football players call him to a party, and a timid guy secretly takes his father's taxi. At the crossroads (which is no coincidence: road signs play a special role in this drama) an agitated stranger sits down to him - white, rich, beautiful and obviously tired of a happy life. Instead of a party, the guys go first to the beach and then to Manhattan. A random date will end with tequila, drugs and scratches on the back of the hero. Heroine lucky less: waking up, Naz will find her dead. In addition, maybe more. Because the frightened lover will run away and fall into the clutches of the judicial system.

The scene of the murder itself remains behind the scenes, there will be too much evidence against the Naz, and he himself will lose his memory at the most improper time. So even the spectator will doubt the innocence of the hero, but lawyer John Stone (John Turturro), a misman in a wrinkled overcoat and slippers who looks at police stations in search of clients, will be ready to fight for his freedom. His level is to protect transvestite prostitutes, so in the case of a Pakistani who killed a girl from high society, he sees an opportunity to become a new Kardashian. The producer of "The Night Of" is the late James Gandolfini, for whose sake HBO used to buy the British format. "The Night Of" is a very scary tale about darkness. In place of the main character can be everyone. The Anglo-Saxon legal system with its precedents leaves the victim no hope of a happy outcome. "The Night Of" is the case when the definition of "judicial drama" describes not a genre, but a leitmotif. This is a tragedy about evil rock. In addition, to make the spectator a fatalist, the whole film crew works in it at once.

The operator and illuminators fix how the world of a person loses sight together with freedom. The editor is experimenting with the rhythm so as to make the audience sit in endless humiliating lines along with Naz's parents. Another important thing about "The Night Of" is that this series understands well the market in which it plays. American television is overloaded with criminal dramas, legal "Procedural drama", and pseudo-reality based on real high-profile crimes. "The Night Of" laughs a little at this excitement: the casual clerk takes the hero Turturro for screenwriter "Law & Order"; Naz cellmates are watching TV shows to better prepare for meetings. Joking, "The Night Of" decides to stay away from all known genres. This is a very confusing detective story, but, despite all the tension, it cannot be called an action story. This is a careful judicial drama, but the legal nuances here are not as important as sociology. "The Night Of", like so much of what HBO ("The Normal Heart", "The Newsroom") does, is journalism. Humanistic, liberal and not very well aware of how the system should actually work. But just knowing how should not.

Judging by the fact that the series about the growing alienation between the man and the law are increasingly coming out, HBO journalism is hitting the target again.

A highly rated show that you probably never heard of.

This show came as a surprise to me, I only watched this one when it came out because I had little to watch at the time during breaks in other shows, so I decided to give it a go. The night of is in itself a very good story that actually could be a true one, what I most like about this show is the mystery , did he do it or what happend?

Another thing about this show that is great is seeing how Nasir changes when being in prison, from the good silent boy to, well something alot different. This is simply great acting and the storyline itself is very good and very well put together, its 1 season with 1 story from start till end, with some twists and it keeps you interested and curious about what happend that night, and you keep getting clues as the show goes on.

Could I watch this show again? That would be a no, this is a one time watch I would say, when you first know the ending, theres no need to watch it again. But it is however extremely entertaining watching the first time.

The night of is about a young man named Nasir who one night is out partying with a female stranger, the next morning when he wakes out he finds her stabbed to death, Did Nasir kill her or what happend?

For TV-Shows it is quite alright to check out the trailer, depending on the age of the trailer, as you can easily get fooled and finding a quick recap of the first season of the show, and that would kinda suck. So when watching trailers for tv-shows, be sure it is one of the first trailers that came out, to ensure there are not too many spoilers, but still informfull enough to give you an idea about the show

Last summer was avaricious for TV series novelties. Many people lounged about, looking for anything to watch, digging through the archives, watching the series all over again, but then we get mini-series from HBO - "The night of". Image source

Now HBO is almost a sign of quality. Well, can the channel, which released The Wire, Game of Thrones, the Young Pope (!!!) and many other TV series, let down? Of course it was necessary to watch.

It seems that the plot is simple - the murder of a girl and the search for a murderer, but the show raises the problem of immigration, the attitude of "white" Americans to the representatives of the Arab diaspora and the life of a person in prison and after it.

PLOT

Young Pakistani Nasir Khan (actor Riz Ahmed) is studying at a college in New York. Once he is invited to a student's party. Overjoyed guy takes his father's taxi and goes to meet the adventure. Unfortunately, he was looking for not exactly those adventures . A girl gets into that taxi and without listening to his protests, asks to take her to the river. There was no question of any party and after the river they went to her house for a night...

After a stormy night, Nasir wakes up next to the girl's corpse.

There are only 8 episodes . "The night of" is based on the British series Criminal Justice, presented in 2008.

There are three main characters in the story: Nasir, his lawyer and the police detective.

I meet the actor Riz Ahmed for the first time. Although he played in several famous films. He was nominated for the Golden Globe for his role in "The night of".

The actor managed to get used to the role. He is a shy guy from a poor family. He was lucky - the white guys from the college spotted him and invited him to a party. He will soon be part of their world! However, a girl comes across and twists him around her little finger. It took only a few hours from the time he was getting into his father's taxi, but now he is sitting in the back seat of a police car.

Nasir is in no way whitewashed in the TV series - we do not know whether he is a murderer or not. We are shown everything as it is, everything will be as it is in life. The right boy is in the wrong world. Will he survive there? Will he stay after that? Will he break or just get stronger?
- Lawyer John Stone. The lawyer was played by actor John Turturro. The role was originally supposed to James Gandolfini, but he suddenly died. Then they invited Robert De Niro, but he also left the project because of the employment.

Tourtorro perfectly coped with his role. A life-worn lawyer who sees in the guy's case his high point. He will still be sent to prison, but Stone сan be shown on televisionб he'll get popularity. After all, the Nasir case will attract interest - a visiting Pakistani man kills a white American girl - a rich girl from the Upper West Side.

Throughout the episodes, you do not understand how you feel about Stone. Is he a good person or a bad person? Wants to help a guy or not?
- Detective Dennis Box. Bill Camp plays Dennis Box, which includes the accusation line of "The night of".

He is a cynic to the core. Detective Box considers the case to be disclosed, he is not interested in Nasir's words. Quickly concoct a case, send a guy to jail - all that he needs. And whether he is guilty or not, it's secondary.

The first three episodes are very dynamic. From what is happening on the screen, you forget to breathe and squeeze into an armchair, the nerves are as tight as strings. The tempo decreases in the following episodes , the picture becomes more gloomy and depressive.

Murder is only one of the reasons to show the attitude of Americans to Muslims, and especially to visiting Muslims. Nobody doubts the guy's guilt. Arab? Then exactly he killed. The fact that the guy has excellent academic performance, teacher feedback, no one cares. Vandals and not indifferent people converge immediately to his house to chant "Go home."

The second theme, which "The night of" raises , is survival in a prison. Only one decision - to give a girl a ride, leads to irreversible consequences. Yesterday Nasir was sitting in college, and today he is having dinner with hardened criminal. One decision marks an end to his future life. Even if they release him, who will he become?

Well, the third - no one cares what happened. The prosecution wants to get Nasir to jail, the defense to get promotion. Nasir's parents are worried that he disgraced them. And Nasir feels that there is some kind of nonsense around.

Everything is shown too vitally, in the best traditions of HBO - atmospheric and viscous. The feeling of desperation covers not only the protagonist, but you. Moreover, the viewer is put on the thirteenth juror and he must decide for himself whether to accuse the protagonist of a crime or not.

"The night of" is extremely difficult to watch because of the abundance of hard scenes, but this is compensated in general by a humanistic message. Eight episodes of "The night of" are eight high-grade films.

To be honest, I envy those people who will watch the TV series for the first time, because I have not seen such intrigue for a long time. Of course, the revision will not bring such pleasure.

The TV series is not going to continue unless HBO finds a new interesting story, but it will not be dedicated to Nasir.
