How would you like for your little daughter to be your personal assistant, or in this case, your sidekick? Great, right? Well, Colton Briggs(Nicolas Cage) wouldn't exactly agree with you.

I present to you "The old Way". A western movie starring Nicolas cage. Many of the movies I've seen him in were either action or drama but today, I'd be making a review of a western movie acted by him.

Colten Briggs is a retired gunslinger whose life was changed by a woman, his wife. He was merciless when it came to killing and never took note of the people he had hurt in the process.

Twenty years later, after starting up a family, it was time for him to pay for all the atrocities he had caused. Like they say, "karma is a bitch".

His wife asked him to walk his daughter (Brooke) to school as he was never really a constant in her life and with so much reluctance, he finally agreed.

Brooke's teacher wasn't around as she had taken ill and so Colten had no other option but to take his daughter with him to his store. She sits quietly at the corner and observes all the things going on.

As a very smart girl, Brooke figured that her mom didn't come to school to get her. Even if school was closed, why didn't her mom come over to the store to ask for her. This was when the action began.

Ruth Briggs is confronted at home by four men who claim they were missing. She senses suspicion and tries to run away. The men found their way to capture her and she is murdered in cold blood. The killers leave the message "I owe you more" written with Ruth's blood

Colten is so pained. His wife was murdered by someone he can't even remember. His acquaintance, Marshal Jarrett, didn't want to disclose the identity of the killers, saying that "he's protecting a killer from another killer".

Marshal Jarrett assures Colten that he would take care of the men that murdered Ruth in a legal way. He went further to say that there is no room for vengeance as long as Brooke was alive. That statement prompted Colten to almost kill his daughter but his calm and coordinated daughter made him shrug off the thought.

With his daughter by his side, he set out on a revenge journey. The murderers lured him their way. But like I always say, "going for revenge with so much anger wouldn't end well". In the process, Colten was murdered by Clark -the son of a man Colten had killed two decades earlier.

In Clark's ecstasy and satisfaction, he got shot. By whom? Wouldn't you want to find out?

I got to find out that Brooke was so much like her father. They had no emotions or they were 'born dead on the inside' like they put it.

A scene that stood out for me and also got me laughing was when Colten told his daughter to cry in the middle of the road to stop a bypasser so that they could hijack his horse. Brooke went "maah maah my baby, my baby" with no drop of year on her face. That was just so hilarious. How would a nine-year-old-looking child have a baby? Her mission was accomplished either way.

I actually didn't expect Colten to die(the regular movie plot) but there was a twist when he died. He wasn't immortal after all😅.

    Cast

    • Nicolas Cage as Colton Briggs
    • Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Brooke
    • Dean Armstrong as Clark
    • Kerry Knuppe as Ruth Briggs
    • Nick Searcy as Marshal Jarrett.

Personally, I loved this movie. It depicted the one thing I like about western movies which is their dressing . I like seeing cowboy hats, the shotguns and the horses . Western movies aren't complete without the horses! It's the first western movie that I've taken my time to watch, all thanks to the cine TV weekly prompt whose deadline I didn't meet up with.

If you're in the mood for some action and twist, then you really should check out this movie. It's a 2023 movie so it won't be so far-fetched.

    With love, wongi ✨

    Personal Opinion

When I was a child I always went with my dad to watch TV, from boxing, horse racing, car racing, wrestling and of course what I liked the most Western movies of Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, Kevin Costner among others, there was a special one of John Wayne called More Heart than Hate, I never got tired of watching it, but I had never seen one of Nicolas Cage who is an actor who has stood out for his brilliant performance in all the movies he has played, I saw the trailer and I was anxious to see this movie, but I couldn't get the subtitles until I saw it, it starts off very well, but as it develops you lose interest and you just want it to end, because you already know the ending.

    nc3.png

I am not a film critic but I consider it a drama without emotion, until the last scene, not even the expression of Nicolas was good, he looked fake, he did not express anything, it seemed that he forced his eyes to remain closed, I understand that his character was a man who was dead inside as he said, and that he did not care about life, but well that's the way I saw it, in the end not everything was bad, the film has a few scenes that I liked, and they are precisely of the girl (RYAN KIERA ARMOSTRONG) very good acting, when she had to cry without knowing how, it made me laugh, when she talked to her father and told him that when her mother died, she felt as if she had died, she showed a feeling of pain, I think that going after the murderers of her mother served to unite them as father and daughter, because in reality he did not know her even though he lived with her. Well friends I hope you watch this movie and let me know what you think, Kisses and Hugs.
