Hola mis queridos cinefilos, bienvenidos a otra sección de Bls que debes ver, hoy les traigo The Promise que es una serie tailandesa de género BL (Boys Love) que se estrenó en marzo de 2023 en la plataforma WeTV. La serie cuenta la historia de Puh y Nanfah, dos amigos de la infancia que se separan por diez años y se reencuentran bajo circunstancias inesperadas. ¿Podrán cumplir la promesa que se hicieron cuando eran niños? ¿O el destino les tiene preparado otro camino?

La serie está basada en una novela del mismo nombre escrita por Thanyathorn Siwanukroh, quien también es el guionista de la adaptación. El director es Kongkiat Khomsiri, conocido por sus trabajos en el cine de terror y acción. Los protagonistas son Kittikun Tansuhas (Kun) como Puh y Wattikorn Permsubhirun (Kiak) como Nanfah, dos actores debutantes que han sorprendido con su química y su actuación.

La trama de la serie se desarrolla en dos líneas temporales: el pasado y el presente. En el pasado, vemos cómo Puh y Nanfah se conocen y se hacen amigos inseparables en un pequeño pueblo donde sus padres tienen negocios frente a frente: una cafetería y una farmacia. Los dos comparten sueños, aventuras y secretos, hasta que un día Puh desaparece sin dejar rastro.

En el presente, Nanfah es un exitoso diseñador gráfico que vive en Bangkok. Un día se reencuentran cuando Puh se muda al apartamento del frente por una casualidad del destino. Los dos se sienten confundidos y emocionados al verse después de tanto tiempo, pero también hay muchos malentendidos y obstáculos que les impiden expresar sus verdaderos sentimientos.

Flashback de su juventud

Desde el principio, nosotros, como espectadores, sabemos cuáles son los motivos de Phu para irse y, al mismo tiempo, todo el esfuerzo que Nan pone para encontrarlo. ¡El hombre se fue hasta otro continente! Mientras tanto, nos entrelazan cómo ambos hacen todo lo posible por rescatar algo de la amistad que tenían, pero obviamente las personas cambian y ya no pueden volver a lo que eran.

Me embarqué en este viaje sabiendo que iba a tener un momento muy triste, debido a que sé el engaño que Phu mantenía al decir que no estuvo en el país durante esos 10 años, pero a medida que la historia de ellos de niños se va desarrollando y al mismo tiempo sus sentimientos de amor como adultos, debo confesar que no estaba preparada para que ese encontronazo con la realidad me doliera tanto. Lloré a mares por ambos, pero me sentí muy mal por Nan y quería que Phu se fuera lejos.

El lloró y yo llore con él

Pensé que una serie que se mantenía a base de convenientes elipsis me iba a solucionar todo rápido, pero no, fui gratamente sorprendida con la mejor frase que tiene: “No nos arreglamos, aún no te perdono, pero tu abuela es más importante”. Me sentí orgullosa de Nan al ponerle los puntos claros, pero a medida que pasaban los minutos y los capítulos, Nan y yo perdonamos a Phu, el tipo canta, modela y hace café. Con una conveniente elipsis y la aparición de un rival me olvidé de mi rencor y me puse del lado de Phu.

Al final terminan juntos después de que Phu se pusiera los pantalones y dejara su miedo, no puedo más que estar feliz y preocupada porque aún me quedan 2 capítulos. Deseé que el karma le cobrara todo lo que hizo sufrir a Nan y lo hizo, pero a qué costo. Me quitó el mejor personaje de la serie.

Como no me iba poner de su lado con esa carita de niño lindo

Esta es una serie con un tono melancólico y romántico, muy diferente a otras que he visto donde todo es mucho más dramático, pero también tiene momentos de humor y ternura. Los personajes secundarios aportan diversidad y color a la historia, como Party, el mejor amigo de Nanfah y rival de Phu; Jo, el hermano menor de Phu; Deena, la rival de Nanfah por el amor de Phu; y Khunkhao, el gato de Nah que se convierte rápidamente en el hijo de ambos protagonistas. Sin dejar a un lado a la abuelita de Phu, el mejor personaje de la serie que me hizo reír, llorar y adorar a las señoras mayores y sus amigas.

Me gusta la serie porque no es el tipo cliché, sino que aborda temas como la amistad, la familia, el perdón, la identidad, el destino y el amor en todas sus formas. Además tiene una banda sonora está compuesta por canciones originales que reflejan el estado de ánimo de los personajes y las situaciones que viven, cantanda por los dos protagonista. La fotografía y la dirección artística son cuidadas y crean una atmósfera acogedora y nostálgica.

The Promise es una serie que te hará reír, llorar, suspirar y soñar con un amor que trasciende el tiempo. Si te gustan las historias de amor entre chicos, no te pierdas esta joya del BL tailandés porque yo le pongo un 7/10 solo porque no esperaba el final y llore muchísimo. Hello my dear cinephiles, welcome to another section of Bls that you must see, today I bring you The Promise, which is a Thai BL genre series (Boys Love) that premiered in March 2023 on the WeTV platform. The plot of the series takes place in two timelines: the past and the present. The two share dreams, adventures and secrets, until one day Puh disappears without a trace.

Presently, Nanfah is a successful graphic designer living in Bangkok. One day they meet again when Pooh moves into the apartment across the street by a coincidence of fate. The two feel confused and excited to see each other after so long, but there are also many misunderstandings and obstacles that prevent them from expressing their true feelings.

Flashback to his youth

From the beginning, we as viewers know what Phu's reasons are for leaving and, at the same time, all the effort Nan puts into finding him. The man went to another continent! Meanwhile, we are intertwined with how they both do everything possible to rescue something from the friendship they had, but obviously people change and can no longer go back to what they were.

I embarked on this trip knowing that I was going to have a very sad moment, because I know the deception that Phu maintained when saying that he was not in the country during those 10 years, but as the story of them as children develops and at the same time their feelings of love as adults, I must confess that I was not prepared for that encounter with reality to hurt me so much. I cried my eyes out for both of them, but I felt really bad for Nan and wanted Phu to go away.

He cried and I cried with him

I thought that a series that was based on convenient ellipses was going to solve everything quickly for me, but no, I was pleasantly surprised with the best phrase he has: "We haven't made up, I still haven't forgiven you, but your grandmother is more important." I was proud of Nan for putting her points straight, but as the minutes and chapters passed, Nan and I forgave Phu, the guy sings, models and makes coffee. With a convenient ellipsis and the appearance of a rival I forgot my grudge and took Phu's side.

In the end they end up together after Phu put on his pants and left his fear, I can't help but be happy and worried because I still have 2 chapters left. I wished that karma would take its toll on him for everything he made Nan suffer and it did, but at what cost. He took away the best character in the series from me.

How could I not take his side with that cute boy's face

This is a series with a melancholic and romantic tone, very different from others I have seen where everything is much more dramatic, but also has moments of humor and tenderness. Secondary characters add diversity and color to the story, such as Party, Nanfah's best friend and Phu's rival; Jo, Phu's younger brother; Deena, Nanfah's rival for Phu's love; and Khunkhao, Nah's cat who quickly becomes the son of both protagonists. Without leaving aside Phu's grandmother, the best character in the series who made me laugh, cry and adore the older ladies and their friends.

I like the series because it is not the cliché type, but rather it addresses themes such as friendship, family, forgiveness, identity, destiny and love in all its forms. It also has a soundtrack composed of original songs that reflect the mood of the characters and the situations they live in, sung by the two protagonists. The photography and artistic direction are careful and create a cozy and nostalgic atmosphere.

The Promise is a series that will make you laugh, cry, sigh and dream of a love that transcends time. If you like love stories between boys, don't miss this gem of Thai BL because I gave it a 7/10 only because I didn't expect the ending and I cried a lot.See you in the next post, cinephiles.
