  1. Movie Review: The Summer I Turned Pretty@seunruth329d

    I'll admit: I was drawn in by nostalgia. A friend described it as “summer, teenage love, and perfect music all tangled together,” and I couldn't resist. Based on Jenny Han’s beloved trilogy, the show carried the promise of first loves, beach sunsets, and emotional awakenings. When I discovered Jenny Han herself served as showrunner—and that Belly, the lead, was envisioned as an Asian-American protagonist, I was even more invested. I tuned in right at the start of summer, hoping for an emotional escape from real life—and I got exactly that.

    What follows through the series is a comfortable yet captivating story: Isabel Belly Conklin goes back to the Cousins Beach every summer with her family and friends and every year her life as well as her heart changes. Belly finds herself on a road to discovering who she is as she negotiates family relationships, loss, and the attractive yet problematic Conrad and the down-to-earth, good-looking Jeremiah.

    I liked the debutante ball arc, which is entirely new to the adaptation, as a signifier of a rite of passage, adding the visual effects and emotional gravity to the story. The development of Belly, the girl who always felt unnoticed, into a person who has discovered her strength and has learned to use it, turned out to be a symbol of what summer change is like.

    It has a drunken quality to the cinematic light of the show, the beaches in the sun, the evening swimming, the soft golden hour glow all to the backing track that seems to be pulled out of my own memories of being a youth in the 2020s. It includes Taylor Swift with her song of the same title This Love (Taylor Version), Olivia Rodrigo, Phoebe Bridgers, and so on, who do not simply accompany the scenes, but become their voice.

    The role of Belly is a victory for Lola Tung. She brings vulnerability, confusion and budding confidence with her in an endearing and sincere way. Christopher Briney as Conrad and Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah breathe emotional life into the archetypal love triangle on the other side, but it is the subtle relationship between them, and Agnes (played in Season 3 by Zoé de Grand Maison) that gives the emotional underpinnings real depth. Agnes, who turns into the confidante and emotional mirror of Conrad, enabled the brooding character to demonstrate emotional maturity in more than cliched romance.

    The book is in essence a story of lost time, loss of identity and lost love in the world of teenage romance. Belly does not merely turn into someone different, but it is a process of learning how to be worthy of oneself. There are several lines that I remembered: Girls are not allowed to know whether we are pretty or not. We are left to wait until somebody can tell us.” That pierced home- it resonated with the rise of Belly as an invisible person to a person bearing her beauty.

    The friendship between Susannah and Laurel (mother of Belly) were particularly heartfelt subplots: divorce, motherhood, and reflection were the core of the teen drama, giving it a realistic foundation.

    Although the show is admittedly gorgeous, it is not flawless. The pacing has been said by some viewers- and critics- to drag in the middle. Interesting as the love triangle was, it was strained at times. In some instances, the decisions that Belly makes are impulsive and critics have pointed out that the adaptation skims the inner depth of the books- some of the character arcs feel too fast or shallow.

    Nevertheless, its heartfelt sincerity, escapist quality, and chemistry-focused plotting were accepted by several fans, despite how much it embraced YA tropes.

    After seeing the entire 3 seasons, particularly the last episodes of Season 3, it seemed to me that I was bidding farewell to a long-time friend. The fact that Belly went through the process of growing up as an insecure teen and then identifying herself as the author of her story touched me in a way I would not have otherwise anticipated. Her errors, love hurts, and her maturity were tangible- not smooth, yet natural.

    The last dance of the debutante ball, set to the song The Way I Loved You by Taylor Swift, was an ideal culmination of the teenage longing, nostalgia, and the sweet and sour burden of first love. I laughed and felt a tear at how Belly and Conrad danced so dreamily and translucently, an instance that was so cinematic and at the same time, very intimate.

    More than the romance, though, the show gave me space to remember summers of freedom, the ache of transitions, and the joy of being seen. It danced through grief, agency, and the cost of growing up, and left me wanting more of Cousins Beach in my memory.

    Rating: ~85% overall. Strong first season, a mixed second with talented moments, and an emotionally satisfying final season.

    Despite pacing issues and YA clichés, The Summer I Turned Pretty stands out for its sun-drenched visual palette, a soundtrack that captures generational emotion, and performances that bring warmth and sincerity to an age-old love story.

    As I watched the last episode, I thought to myself something: the show didn't just tell Belly's story—it allowed me to live mine. What makes it beautiful isn't about rewriting the play book on YA romance, but about making us remember why we fell in love—or fell under the spell of being seen in the first place. Watching Belly grow, stumble, and rise tall with sunset light wrapped around it, felt like reclaiming part of my own teenage years.

    If you’re ready to get the heat of summer back—and see a teenager transform into her own woman—let this series be your getaway. Close your eyes after the last credits and you might just smell the salt from Cousins Beach in the air.

  2. ☀ Reseña: El verano en que me enamoré (2da temporada)🌊❤️ || ☀ Review: The Summer I Turned Pretty (2nd Season)🌊❤️@eldiariodelys1034d

    «El mundo no te está pasando a ti, tú le estás pasando al mundo. Y no olvides disfrutar el viaje»

    «The world is not happening to you, you are happening to the world. And don't forget to enjoy the ride»

    Por alguna razón, últimamente he estado consumiendo muchas historias románticas, tanto en series o películas, como en libros e incluso anime. Le echo la culpa a la temporada de vacaciones, dado que en esta época nos vemos envueltos en esa sensación de romance, libertad y amor de verano; así que he caído por completo en la publicidad de estas historias y he dedicado mi tiempo libre a ver que tienen para ofrecer✨

    Hace algunas semanas les dejé mi reseña acerca de la primera temporada de la serie El verano en que me enamoré, ahora vuelvo por acá para hablarles sobre la segunda temporada, y aunque la primera me pareció perfecta para tener un poco de romance antes de comenzar el estrés de la universidad —de nuevo—, sinceramente, los nuevos episodios me dejaron una sensación agridulce, así que pequeño spoiler prefiero la primera temporada. Esta historia está basada en la trilogía del mismo nombre, escrito por Jenny Han, y utilizaré este espacio para desahogarme acerca de Belly😌

    For some reason, lately I have been consuming a lot of romantic stories, both in series or movies, books and even anime. I blame it on the vacation season, since during this time we get caught up in that feeling of romance, freedom, and summer love; so I've completely fallen for the hype of these stories and have spent my free time seeing what they have to offer✨

    A few weeks ago I left you my review about the first season of the series The Summer I Turned Pretty, now I'm back over here to tell you about the second season, and although the first one seemed perfect for me to have a little romance before starting the stress of college -again-, honestly, the new episodes left me with a bittersweet feeling, so small spoiler I prefer the first season. This story is based on the trilogy of the same name, written by Jenny Han, and I will use this space to vent about Belly😌

    ☀RESUMEN || OVERVIEW☀

    En la primera temporada conocemos a la protagonista, Belly, quien cada verano suele viajar junto a su madre y hermano mayor a Cousins Beach, para encontrarse con la mejor amiga de su mamá, Susannah, y sus hijos Conrad y Jeremiah, y así tener unas vacaciones inolvidables cada año. Sin embargo, la desgracia y tristeza envolvió la vida de cada uno en este verano, debido al fallecimiento de uno de los personajes. Pero el destino los vuelve a unir cuando la hermosa casa que los acogía cada año, donde guardan recuerdos felices y algunos de los mejores momentos de su vida, entra al mercado de bienes y raíces. Deben defender el lugar más apreciado por todos.

    Y así de inestable como el futuro de la casa, también lo están las relaciones entre los personajes. En la temporada anterior todo terminó con Belly y Conrad juntos como pareja, rompiéndole el corazón a Jeremiah; pero esa relación no era tan fuerte como todos imaginaban, y ahora con Belly tratando de olvidar el pasado, Conrad sin saber expresar sus sentimientos, y Jeremiah guardando esperanzas de conquistar a Belly, se crea un gran triángulo amoroso.

    In the first season we meet the main character, Belly, who every summer usually travels with her mother and older brother to Cousins Beach, to meet her mother's best friend, Susannah, and her sons Conrad and Jeremiah, in order to have an unforgettable vacation every year. However, misfortune and sadness engulfed everyone's life this summer, due to the passing of one of the characters. But fate brings them together again when the beautiful house that welcomed them every year, where they keep happy memories and some of the best moments of their lives, enters the real estate market. They must defend the place most cherished by all.

    And as unstable as the future of the house is, so are the relationships between the characters. In the previous season it all ended with Belly and Conrad together as a couple, breaking Jeremiah's heart; but that relationship was not as strong as everyone imagined, and now with Belly trying to forget the past, Conrad not knowing how to express his feelings, and Jeremiah holding out hope of winning Belly, a great love triangle is created.

    ☀MI OPINIÓN || MY OPINION☀

    Usar la trama de la salvación de la casa de verano que todos aman desde la infancia, no es algo muy original, y al principio me pareció un poco aburrido. Pero, desde el fondo de mi corazón, les digo que lo que más me disgustó fue el triángulo amoroso, dado que la manera en que lo desarrollaron agregó dramas innecesarios a la historia, y lo que más me gustaba de la primera temporada, ese amor sano, lindo e inocente, se arruinó por completo. Y la protagonista que, a pesar de no ser mi favorita, me caía muy bien, en esta temporada me desagradó por completo, no la soportaba, así que explicaré en detalle cada uno de estos factores.

    Using the plot of saving the summer house that everyone has loved since childhood is not very original, and at first I found it a bit boring. But, from the bottom of my heart, I tell you that what I disliked the most was the love triangle, since the way they developed it added unnecessary drama to the story, and what I liked the most in the first season, that healthy, cute and innocent love, was completely ruined. And the main character who, despite not being my favorite, I liked very much, in this season I completely disliked her, I couldn't stand her, so I will explain in detail each of these factors.

    image.png source

    ✨PERSONAJES || CHARACTERS✨

    Belly

    Al igual que los demás personajes, ella está viviendo su duelo a su manera, y eso se le debe respetar, porque todos reaccionamos de forma distinta a las situaciones de la vida. Sus amigos y hermano le incitan a salir, divertirse, socializar, pero ella no quiere, solo desea quedarse en casa y vivir su tristeza, me parece justo y era bastante molesto cuando la presionaban. Además, no solo estaba pasando por el duelo del fallecimiento de una de las personas que más ama, sino que también estaba en duelo por su relación fallida.

    Belly me parecía una niña muy inocente y dulce, pero no sigue siendo la misma en esta temporada. Fue un personaje muy inmaduro, carente de responsabilidad afectiva e inteligencia emocional. Yo comprendo que ella estaba sufriendo, que no estaba en su mejor momento, pero, por favor, que alguien le explique que el mundo no gira en torno a ella, que los demás también estaban pasando por la misma situación, y así como ella exigía empatía, también debía ofrecerla.

    Just like the other characters, she is living her grief in her own way, and that should be respected, because we all react differently to life situations. Her friends and brother urge her to go out, have fun, socialize, but she doesn't want to, she just wants to stay home and live her sadness, fair enough, and it was quite annoying when she was being pressured. Also, not only was she going through the grief of the passing of one of the people she loves the most, but she was also grieving over her failed relationship.

    Belly seemed to me to be a very innocent and sweet girl, but she is not the same in this season. She was a very immature character, lacking in affective responsibility and emotional intelligence. I understand that she was suffering, that she wasn't at her best, but please someone explain to her that the world doesn't revolve around her, that others were also going through the same situation, and just as she demanded empathy, she should also offer it.

    image.png source

    Y algo que realmente me molestaba, eran las escenas de Belly con el personaje que falleció (si vieron la primera temporada, ya deben tener la idea de quién murió). Esta persona estaba enferma, después de ser alguien tan alegre y dispuesto a vivir, quedó tendida sin fuerzas en una cama, era el momento en que más necesitaba a sus seres amados, de que le dieran ánimo. Pero Belly cada vez que iba a visitar, la trataba con lástima; y, por supuesto, que todos queremos ser optimista y pensar que hay oportunidades, pero también hay que ser realistas, y en vez de disfrutar los últimos días de vida de esta persona, darle alegría, Belly solo amargaba el momento.

    Todos vivimos el duelo a nuestra manera. Pero de verdad me desagradaba mucho su comportamiento, tanto en esta situación como en toda la serie.

    And something that really bothered me, were Belly's scenes with the character who died (if you watched the first season, you should already have the idea of who died). This person was sick, after being someone so cheerful and willing to live, she was lying limp in a bed, it was the time when she needed her loved ones the most, to give her encouragement. But Belly, every time she went to visit, treated her with pity; and, of course, we all want to be optimistic and think that there are opportunities, but we must also be realistic, and instead of enjoying the last days of life of this person, giving her joy, Belly only embittered the moment.

    We all experience grief in our own way. But I really disliked his behavior, both in this situation and throughout the series.

    Conrad & Jeremiah

    En la reseña anterior mencioné que estaba en el Team Jeremiah, pero debo admitir que mi percepción cambió. Ambos hermanos me agradan, tienen aspectos que deben mejorar, pero son muy encantadores, y no tengo ningún problema con ellos. En esta ocasión quedé más flechada con Conrad, y la verdad creo que mi decisión es más sólida ahora.

    La manera en que Conrad manejó toda la situación estuvo muy mal, sinceramente debería ir a terapia y obtener herramientas para expresar sus sentimientos y regular las emociones; hay momentos de la vida en que necesitaremos ayuda, y no hay nada de malo en eso. Las escenas románticas con Belly, su atención a los detalles y pasión por cumplir sus propósitos me encantó. Mientras que Jem sigue siendo ese chico alegre y optimista de la primera temporada, que llena de vida el lugar donde llega. Ambos son increíbles, y no merecen a una Belly a su lado.

    In the previous review, I mentioned that I was on Team Jeremiah, but I must admit that my perception changed. I like both brothers, they have aspects to improve, but they are very charming, and I have no problem with them. This time around, I was more smitten with Conrad, and I actually think my decision is more solid now.

    The way Conrad handled the whole situation was very bad, honestly he should go to therapy and get tools to express his feelings and regulate emotions; there are times in life when we will need help, and there is nothing wrong with that. The romantic scenes with Belly, her attention to detail and passion to fulfill her purpose, I loved it. While Jem is still that cheerful, optimistic guy from the first season, who fills the place he arrives with life. They're both amazing, and they don't deserve a Belly by their side.

    image.png source

    Taylor & Steven

    Sin duda mis personajes favoritos de la temporada. Quedaron envueltos en el drama, pero supieron como salir rápido de allí, es decir, comunicando sus sentimientos. Fueron dulces, divertidos, y espontáneos. Fue el verdadero romance que se ganó el corazón del público. En estos episodios tuvieron más tiempo en pantalla, por lo tanto, sus personajes tuvieron su propio desarrollo en la historia. Y como no soportaba el triángulo amoroso de Belly, Conrad y Jeremiah, era un respiro de alivio cada vez que eran ellos los protagonistas del momento.

    Without a doubt my favorite characters of the season. They got caught up in the drama, but knew how to get out of it quickly, that is, by communicating their feelings. They were sweet, funny, and spontaneous. It was the true romance that won the audience's hearts. In these episodes they had more screen time, therefore, their characters had their own development in the story. And since I couldn't stand the love triangle of Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah, it was a breath of relief every time they were the main characters of the moment.

    image.png source

    ✨TRAMA || PLOT✨

    Como explican en el primer capítulo, Conrad y Belly terminan por motivos que no diré para evitar spoilers, pero me pareció muy absurdo. En el último momento, Belly solo tenía suposiciones y Conrad simplemente no expuso sus sentimientos, si hubieran sido personas maduras y responsables se hubieran dado cuenta de que comunicándose los problemas se resolvían, pero no. Y está bien, son adolescentes aprendiendo a ser adultos, cometieron un error y es parte de la vida.

    Pero no se puede negar que Belly es un personaje muy tóxico. Toda su vida había estado enamorada de Conrad, es obvio que después de haber tenido finalmente una relación con él no lo iba a olvidar en unos pocos meses; aun así la vemos buscando a Jeremiah, con quien había comenzado una relación anteriormente, pero lo dejó para estar con Conrad. Y aunque él le dice que siempre habrá algo entre Conrad y ella, Belly le sigue insistiendo, y sinceramente, lo veo como el dicho: “un clavo saca otro clavo”. Ella sigue enamorada de Conrad, está dolida por todo lo que sucedió, y está proyectando sus sentimientos en Jeremiah, mintiéndose a sí misma.

    As they explain in the first chapter, Conrad and Belly break up for reasons that I won't say to avoid spoilers, but it seemed very absurd to me. At the last moment, Belly only had assumptions and Conrad simply didn't expose his feelings, if they had been mature and responsible people they would have realized that by communicating the problems were solved, but no. And that's okay, they are teenagers learning to be adults, they made a mistake, and it's part of life.

    But there's no denying that Belly is a very toxic character. All her life she had been in love with Conrad, it's obvious that after finally having a relationship with him, she wasn't going to forget him in a few months; yet we see her looking for Jeremiah, with whom she had started a relationship before, but left him to be with Conrad. And even though he tells her that there will always be something between Conrad and her, Belly keeps pushing him, and honestly, I see it as the saying, "one nail pulls out another nail." She's still in love with Conrad, she's hurt by everything that happened, and she's projecting her feelings onto Jeremiah, lying to herself.

    image.png source

    Si Belly realmente hubiera querido a Jeremiah, no hubiera terminado su corta relación para estar con el hermano de él. Veo muchas personas romantizando estos personajes, pero amigos, Jem es solo la segunda opción, como las cosas no funcionaron con Conrad, Belly lo busca porque es su zona de confort, y me parece un acto muy egoísta, no sabe como colocarse en la situación de los demás. Ella necesita estar sola, quererse a sí misma, y no meterse en una relación de hermanos, especialmente cuando se necesitan tanto el uno al otro. ¿Con tantos chicos en el mundo, por qué tiene que jugar la pelota con ellos dos?

    If Belly really loved Jeremiah, she wouldn't have ended their short relationship to be with his brother. I see a lot of people romanticizing these characters, but friends, Jem is only the second choice, since things didn't work out with Conrad, Belly seeks him out because it's her comfort zone, and I find that a very selfish act, she doesn't know how to place herself in the situation of others. She needs to be alone, love herself, and not get into a sibling relationship, especially when they need each other so much. With so many boys in the world, why does she have to play ball with the two of them?

    image.png source

    ✨SOUNDTRACK✨

    Debo destacar el maravilloso soundtrack de esta serie, siempre con una canción ideal para la escena, que permite conectar mejor con el momento, por ejemplo, colocar Drivers License de Olivia Rodrigo, mientras que Belly manejaba llorando, enojada y deprimida. O Invisible String de Taylor Swift con los flashbacks de Belly y Conrad solos en la playa en el invierno, y luego encontrándose nuevamente en el siguiente verano en la misma casa, cuando todo ya había acabado.

    En el funeral, Conrad cantó Last Kiss de Pearl Jam, y fue una escena muy emotiva. Sin duda este personaje tuvo las escenas más emocionales, creo que por eso conecté con él en esta temporada. Y Steven y Taylor realizando una coreografía de Party in the USA de Miley Cyrus también fue un momento muy divertido.

    Y así hubo varias canciones que permitieron vivir el momento, y sentir lo que estaba sucediendo en la escena. Como fan de Taylor Swift debo agradecer la cantidad de sus canciones que utilizaron, porque me da la razón de que existe una canción de Taylor para cada momento de tu vida.

    I must highlight the wonderful soundtrack of this series, always with an ideal song for the scene, which allows connecting better with the moment, for example, placing Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo, while Belly was driving crying, angry and depressed. Or Invisible String by Taylor Swift with the flashbacks of Belly and Conrad alone on the beach in the winter, and then meeting again the following summer in the same house, when it was all over.

    At the funeral, Conrad sang Last Kiss by Pearl Jam, and it was a very emotional scene. Without a doubt, this character had the most emotional scenes, I think that's why I connected with him this season. And Steven and Taylor performing a choreography of Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus was also a very funny moment.

    There were several songs that allowed you to live at the moment, and feel what was happening in the scene. And, as a Taylor Swift fan, I have to be thankful for the amount of her songs they used, because it gives me the reason that there is a Taylor song for every moment of your life.

    Si llegaron hasta acá, entonces puedes notar que no me agradaron varios factores de la serie. Pero necesitaba desahogarlo, porque he visto muchas personas fantaseando con la historia, y no, realmente hay muchas red flags aquí, no es un romance que debamos viralizar porque no da un buen ejemplo. No obstante, las actuaciones estuvieron muy buenas, y los actores son encantadores, cualquier error en la historia es culpa del guion.

    Aún queda un libro, por lo tanto, la serie tiene una renovación para una tercera temporada, que posiblemente llegue a Amazon el próximo verano. No le tengo muchas esperanzas, pero obviamente la veré, porque necesito darle una conclusión a todo este enredo.

    Muchísimas gracias por leer✨ Si quieres ver una serie de romance ve la primera temporada, y si quieres criticar un romance, entonces la segunda temporada es para ti.

    Hasta luego💜

    If you made it this far, then you may notice that I didn't like several factors of the series. But I needed to get it off my chest, because I've seen a lot of people fantasizing about the story, and no, there really are a lot of red flags here, it's not a romance we should viralize because it doesn't set a good example. However, the performances were very good, and the actors are charming, any mistakes in the story are the fault of the script.

    There's still one book left, so the series has a renewal for a third season, possibly coming to Amazon next summer. I don't have high hopes for it, but obviously I will watch it, because I need to give a conclusion to this whole mess.

    Thank you so much for reading✨ If you want to check out a romance series watch the first season, and if you want to critique a romance, then season two is for you.

    See you later💜

    ¡Hola, gente linda de Hive!❤️ Hello, beautiful people of Hive!❤️

    Las series románticas no son mis preferidas, pero de vez en cuando todos necesitamos un poco de amor en nuestras vidas🥰 Pero sé que, últimamente, el catálogo de romance que nos ofrecen no es el más adecuado: tramas superficiales, relaciones tóxicas que dan más rabia que emoción, y en resumen, un caos total; por esa razón soy muy cuidadosa cuando veo algo que se considere “romántico”, y debo decir que la serie que les traigo hoy pasó la prueba.

    Jenny Han, escritora famosa por los libros (y películas) de ”A todos los chicos de los que me enamoré", ⁣ nos regala una nueva historia que vale la pena dar una oportunidad, llamada ”El verano en que me enamoré”💖 Esta serie adapta el libro del mismo nombre, habla sobre triángulos amorosos, romances de verano, dramas familiares, y personajes encontrando un nuevo camino en sus vidas. Una historia fresca, ideal para hacer un maratón en vacaciones; y, sin spoiler, te daré mi opinión✨

    Romance series are not my favorite, but from time to time we all need a little love in our lives🥰 But I know that, lately, the catalog of romance they offer us is not the most adequate: superficial plots, toxic relationships that give more anger than emotion, and in short, total chaos; for that reason I am very careful when I watch something that is considered "romantic", and I must say that the series I bring you today passed the test.

    Jenny Han, writer famous for the "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" books (and movies), gives us a new story worth giving a chance called "The Summer I Turned Pretty"💖 This series adapts the book of the same name, talks about love triangles, summer romances, family dramas, and characters finding a new path in their lives. A fresh story, ideal for a vacation marathon; and, without spoilers, I'll give you my opinion✨

    🌸RESUMEN || SUMMARY🌸

    Belly nunca ha sido la clase de chica a la que le pasan cosas. Cada año Isabel (quien todos llaman Belly) viaja con su mamá y su hermano a la casa de la playa de la mejor amiga de su mamá, para pasar el verano. Es su temporada favorita porque es el momento para ver a los hijos de la anfitriona, Conrad y Jeremiah, sin embargo, cada temporada los chicos parecen ignorarla y dejarla a un lado por ser la más pequeña. Pero, para bien o para mal, este verano las cosas cambiarán, pues Belly ya no es la misma niña que todos recordaban, ahora es una adolescente a punto de cumplir 16 años que desea florecer y alejarse de esa imagen infantil que todos tienen de ella.

    Belly has never been the kind of girl that things happen to. Every year Isabel (who everyone calls Belly) travels with her mom and brother to her mom's best friend's beach house for the summer. It's her favorite season because it's the time to see the hostess' sons, Conrad and Jeremiah, yet every season the boys seem to ignore her and push her aside because she's the youngest. But, for better or worse, this summer things will change, because Belly is no longer the same little girl everyone remembered, now she is a teenager about to turn 16 who wants to blossom and get away from that childish image everyone has of her.

    🌸MI OPINIÓN || MY OPINION🌸

    Es una historia muy americana con fiestas en casa de playas, hogueras a la orilla del mar, club de campo y baile de debutantes, y por supuesto, celebración del 4 de julio con muchos fuegos artificiales. Sin embargo, esta serie nos demuestra la magia y los nervios que envuelven al primer amor; sin usar un guion sobre personajes que idealizan las relaciones tóxicas, o con dramas innecesarios alrededor de la historia, El verano en que me enamoré expresa esa tormenta de emociones durante la adolescencia, y explica qué equivocarse, tener miedo, sentirse inseguro y perdido es parte del proceso de crecimiento y madurez.

    La protagonista tiene problemas típicos de la adolescencia, como conflictos con su familia o con su mejor amiga, confusión acerca de quién es y sobre qué es lo que quiere en su vida, ilusión por tener un interés amoroso y el deseo de independizarse, pero estos factores no los exponen como una tragedia, o al menos no sientes que los personajes se están ahogando en su vaso de agua, sino que los explican de manera más realista, de forma que puedas empatizar con la historia y los personajes, y eso es un punto a favor✨

    It's a very American story with beach house parties, seaside bonfires, country club and debutante ball, and of course, 4th of July celebrations with lots of fireworks. However, this series shows us the magic and nerves that surround first love; without using a script about characters that idealize toxic relationships, or with unnecessary drama around the story, The Summer I Turned Pretty expresses that storm of emotions during adolescence, and explains how making mistakes, being afraid, feeling insecure and lost is part of the process of growing up and maturing.

    The protagonist has typical teenage problems, such as conflicts with her family or with her best friend, confusion about who she is and about what she wants in her life, illusion about having a love interest and the desire to become independent, but these factors are not exposed as a tragedy, or at least you don't feel that the characters are drowning in their glass of water, but they explain them in a more realistic way, so you can empathize with the story and the characters, and that's a plus✨

    🌸Personajes || Characters🌸

    Belly✨ Isabel Conklin (Lola Tung) es una adolescente con la que muchas chicas nos podemos identificar. Espontánea y muy carismática, sueña con encontrar un romance que llene de emoción su vida, conocer un chico con quien pueda tener una linda historia de amor. Belly está cansada que la traten como una niña indefensa, que la dejen afuera de los planes; y en este verano explorará eso que siempre ha deseado, los chicos que conoce desde niña ya la perciben por lo que es, una chica hermosa de 16 años. Con este evento vemos como la atracción se intensifica, las hormonas se descontrolan, y llega un punto en que la situación supera las expectativas.

    Belly✨ Isabel Conklin (Lola Tung) is a teenager that many girls can identify with. Spontaneous and very charismatic, she dreams of finding a romance that will fill her life with excitement, meeting a boy with whom she can have a beautiful love story. Belly is tired of being treated like a helpless child, of being left out of the plans; and this summer she will explore what she has always wanted, the boys she has known since she was a child already perceive her for what she is, a beautiful 16 year old girl. With this event we see how the attraction intensifies, hormones get out of control, and there comes a point where the situation exceeds expectations.

    image.png source

    Conrad y Jeremiah Fisher✨ Estos hermanos han sido amigos de Belly toda la vida, dado que son los hijos de la mejor amiga de su madre. Practicamente se criaron juntos. Sin embargo, Belly siempre ha tenido un crush con Conrad (Christopher Briney), aunque él solo le ha demostrado el amor de un hermano mayor hacia su hermana... hasta este verano. Conrad también llega cambiado a la casa de la playa, sus actitudes son ambiguas y confusas, te hace pensar que quizás se despertó algo más fuerte en sus sentimientos. Cada pequeño detalle que tiene Conrad por Belly nos hace suponer que hay esperanzas, pero luego su comportamiento frío y distante nos confunde a todos.

    Por otro lado, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), ha sido ese amigo que siempre está ahí cuando lo necesitas, sin importar la situación. Divertido, libre, y expresivo, es uno de mis personajes favoritos. Él hace sentir valorada a Belly, la apoya, aunque quizás la vea como algo más que una amiga. Este triángulo amoroso se desarrolla un poco lento para mi gusto, su desenlace se da en los últimos capítulos y te deja insatisfecho; además, su progreso es confuso, no queda claro si los sentimientos de todos son reales o solo efecto de una atracción física. Pero bueno, así se siente la adolescencia😇

    Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher✨ These brothers have been Belly's friends all their lives, since they are the sons of their mother's best friend. They practically grew up together. However, Belly has always had a crush on Conrad (Christopher Briney), though he's only shown her the love of an older brother toward his sister...until this summer. Conrad also arrives changed at the beach house, his attitudes are ambiguous and confusing, making you think that perhaps something stronger in his feelings was awakened. Every little detail Conrad has for Belly makes us assume there is hope, but then his cold and distant behavior confuses us all.

    Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), on the other hand, has been that friend who is always there when you need him, no matter the situation. Funny, free, and expressive, he is one of my favorite characters. He makes Belly feel valued, supportive, yet perhaps sees her as more than just a friend. This love triangle develops a little slow for my taste, its denouement comes in the last chapters and leaves you unsatisfied; besides, its progress is confusing, it's not clear if everyone's feelings are real or just the effect of a physical attraction. But well, that's how adolescence feels😇

    🌸Amistad. Historias secundarias. ¡Y un gran soundtrack! || Friendship. Side stories. And a great soundtrack!🌸

    Algo que me gustó en la serie es que no toda la historia se centra en Belly y sus intereses amorosos. Primero, la amistad tan bella de las madres de Belly y los Fisher, todos queremos que nuestras amistades de jóvenes duren para toda la vida, que esas personas nos acompañen en cada paso que damos, y aunque ellas han tenido sus momentos difíciles, saben reconocer sus errores, pedir perdón y no perder esa gran amistad. También tenemos a Taylor, la mejor amiga de Belly, y aquí sí hay un detalle que me molestó, me hubiera gustado que Belly tuviera más empatía por una situación que pasó su amiga en los primeros capítulos. No diré spoilers, pero sí diré que todos nos equivocamos y la vida no gira en torno a una sola persona, hay que tener en cuenta los sentimientos de los demás.

    Tanto las madres como Steven, el hermano de Belly, tienen su propia pequeña historia en la serie, aquí todos tienen un verano inolvidable, y me gusta ver el desarrollo de cada personaje. Además, algo increíble es el soundtrack de la serie, destacado por canciones famosas, desde Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, y por supuesto, Taylor Swift💜 Estoy segura de que Jenny Han en muy fan de Taylor, porque en casi cada capítulo hay una canción de ella, y obviamente, eso fue algo que amé con todo mi corazón.

    Something I liked in the series is that not all of the story focuses on Belly and her love interests. First, the beautiful friendship of Belly's mothers and the Fishers, we all want our friendships as young people to last a lifetime, that those people accompany us in every step we take, and although they have had their difficult moments, they know how to recognize their mistakes, ask for forgiveness and not lose that great friendship. We also have Taylor, Belly's best friend, and here there is a detail that bothered me, I would have liked Belly to have more empathy for a situation that her friend went through in the first chapters. I won't say spoilers, but I will say that we all make mistakes and life doesn't revolve around one person, you have to take into account the feelings of others.

    Both the moms and Steven, Belly's brother, have their own little story in the series, here everyone has an unforgettable summer, and I love watching the development of each character. Also, something amazing is the soundtrack of the series, highlighted by famous songs, from Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, and of course, Taylor Swift💜 I'm sure Jenny Han in a big fan of Taylor, because in almost every episode there is a song from her, and obviously, that was something I loved with all my heart.

    En fin, esta serie cuenta con 7 episodios de 40 a 50 minutos. Y sí, es otra historia de adolescentes enamorados, pero en comparación a otras series y películas, aquí si nos dan algo más sano, más real, con lo cual nos podemos identificar. Tiene sus clichés, y algunos problemas superficiales que a veces piensas: "no te ahogues en un vaso de agua, cariño", pero es entretenida y perfecta para ver en esta época del año, con escenarios hermosos del verano te hace sentir fresco y soñador.

    Por cierto, los dos intereses de Belly son encantadores y enredan los sentimientos del espectador, pero va a existir preferencia por uno de los hermanos, y en mi caso soy #TeamJeremiah, estoy enamorada de ese personaje🥰 Aunque siento que no será el escogido por Belly, eso lo veremos en la próxima temporada, solo sé que necesito que ella se decida por uno, porque su indecisión no me gusta.

    Anyway, this series has 7 episodes of 40 to 50 minutes. And yes, it is another story of teenagers in love, but compared to other series and movies, here we get something healthier, more real, with which we can identify. It has its clichés, and some superficial problems that sometimes you think: "don't drown in a glass of water, honey", but it is entertaining and perfect to watch at this time of the year, with beautiful summer scenery that makes you feel fresh and dreamy.

    By the way, both of Belly's interests are charming and tangle the viewer's feelings, but there is going to be a preference for one of the brothers, and in my case I'm #TeamJeremiah, I'm in love with that character🥰 Although I feel that it won't be the one chosen by Belly, we'll see that in the next season, I just know that I need her to decide for one, because her indecision doesn't appeal to me.

    Jenny Han sí que sabe como enamorar al público, como devolvernos esa magia del primer amor. Yo leí la trilogía de su famosa obra de "A todos los chicos de los que me enamoré" y quizás por eso mi preferencia se inclina más hacia esa historia que a esta (y porque Peter Kavinsky es uno de mis mayores crush literarios🤭), pero difruté cada capítulo de la serie y sí la recomiendo. La puedes encontrar en Amazon Prime y este viernes se estrena la segunda temporada😌✨

    Muchísimas gracias por leer, ¡Hasta luego! 💗

    Jenny Han sure knows how to make audiences fall in love, how to bring back that magic of first love. I read the trilogy of her famous work of "To all the boys I've loved before" and maybe that's why my preference leans more towards that story than this one (and because Peter Kavinsky is one of my biggest literary crushes🤭), but I enjoyed every chapter of the series and I do recommend it. You can find it on Amazon Prime and this Friday the second season will be released😌✨

    Thank you so much for reading, see you later!💗

    You know I love romantic stories, whether in series or movie format, whenever I find one that I like I'm too happy watching it, and just a few days ago a friend recommended this series and told me that I would love it, she told me that it was a quick story to watch and with the right amount of youth drama that I like to see, so I decided to watch it and here I tell you my opinion.

    Estrenada en Junio de 2022 por la plataforma Amazon Prime Video, esta serie de drama romántico está basada en la novela de Jenny Han que lleva el mismo nombre, la misma autora de la historia de A Todos los Chicos de los que me Enamore la cual esta adatada en formato película por la plataforma de Netflix (y que además es de mis películas románticas favoritas). Cuenta la historia de Isabel “Belly” Conklin, quien cada verano va de vacaciones a la casa de los Fisher; Jeremiah y Conrad Fisher han sido a los largo de los años sus amigos, hermanos e intereses amorosos, para ella este verano debe ser diferente.

It tells the story of Isabel "Belly" Conklin, who every summer goes on holiday to the Fisher house; Jeremiah and Conrad Fisher have been her friends, brothers and love interests over the years, for her this summer must be different.

    In general terms the story is quite light to watch, in fact my sister and I watched it in one afternoon, it only has 7 chapters of approximately 42min each that are consumed quite quickly, however this does not make it boring at any time, it is full of clichés obviously but this has never bothered me. I like that the story doesn't only focus on Belly, but it explores a bit other characters like her mum and her mum's best friend, her brother Steven and others, and I really like this aspect because Belly's character doesn't really have a great development, although throughout the story we see her going through different situations, I didn't really feel a great advance, and with this I don't mean that I don't like the character, I just didn't feel an evolution.

    From the beginning they tell us that Conrad is Belly's love interest, however at the beginning I didn't like him at all, in fact I shipped her with someone else, and the reason is because they make him look like an excessively serious character and even quite bitter, my perception changed completely as the chapters went by and you realize the reason for his mood, even at the end I totally preferred him over Belly's other love interest, although that girl liked everyone 😂😂.

    Jeremiah is from the beginning my favourite character, he's super laid back but not to the extreme, he's always about bringing the family together and having a good time, at one point in the story it feels like nothing is taken seriously and I think that disconnected me a bit from his good vibes, even so I could say he was my favourite character. The final chapter made me cry, more or less in the middle of the series you find out something quite important for the story, and although at the moment you don't feel the weight of that situation, in the final chapter it moves you completely, or at least it happened to me and to the friend who recommended it to me it happened the same way.

    I liked the series a lot, as I said at the beginning I watched it in one afternoon and it really kept me entertained and wanting to see the next chapter, it's renewed for a second season so when it comes out I'll probably be here giving my opinion. I haven't read the book so I only know the details of the series, so I have to say that I really liked that the main character was Asian, I think that's where the author's stamp is felt, she also has a cameo in one of the chapters and honestly I got excited when I saw her. I really recommend the series, it is ideal for a Sunday afternoon, obviously you have to like romantic drama because otherwise you will not enjoy it as much.
