OPINION
Watching the Netflix catalog by chance, I came across this series, I wasn't looking for something to think about so much so I decided to watch it because it looked like something I could digest without paying so much attention. That's how I got hooked on a series of children's toys.
The interesting thing about this documentary is not the simple fact of being about toys, but his behind-the-scenes work, like making television shows, movies, comics, and that everything had to be fine so as not to cause problems with the sale of toys, it was a quite a complicated process and from what I imagine a lot of money was invested in various companies. They give you an interesting point of view to see how the idea came from other small ideas, it is not the same to see G.I Joe now than when they first thought of it.
Even thanks to the toys, animated series or movies were created directly, the success of some science fiction production was mediated by the sales of its toys previously. It is fascinating the stories of how they got the rights, the ideas, how they changed over the years, how they ruined a design and still the children liked it, they are not simple stories of triumph, they are in fact, stories of failure.
That was what I liked the most about all of this, that the creators themselves said that Hello Kitty is not as popular as one might think, in fact, she has never been Sanrio's favorite mascot; This being the house that created Hello Kitty, but even so, being famous or not, if the series, the movie or the toy makes sense, sometimes its success is so rare and random that no one can predict it.
It made me think, as in the toy industry as before with the cinema, anyone could easily innovate with their ideas because there were few things at that time, it is otherwise, nowadays, it is difficult for something to become stagnant in popularity Like all the toys we know, for that reason they don't try to create a new franchise, but rather improve or renew an old one, less risky, less expensive.
I came to see that there is also a documentary about movies, from the same creators of this documentary, I am watching it to be able to comment on it in the future, but without a doubt, so that we can spend a different weekend having information on pop culture, I recommend this Serie.

I hope you liked the post and can see this documentary, without further ado, we'll read later.

Not quite a movie, I know, but I've been watching The Toys that Made Us a documentary series on Netflix about the iconic toys that we all grew up with, from Star Wars to Barbie to He-Man and G.I. Joe, and the the people behind them, the creators and marketers. I was surprised by this one. It is surprisingly informative and thought-provoking in its exploration of the subject matter, the successes and failures of the lines. This includes the fights and firings over Barbie (who knew she was inspired by a courtesan?), the conviction that He-Man failed because of the success of She-Ra (it didn't), that the Boba Fett with firing rocket never actually made it to market despite the belief it had.
It was neat to see this episodic documentary series. I liked how they dedicated each episode to a different toy line and not to trying to mix them up or anything else they could have done. It allowed us to follow the story from conception through development, marketing, success and/or failure.
