   Hello, people of the internet, everything alright? Today I want to talk to you about a movie whose memory I unlocked talking to my sister, it's about The Village, one of those movies whose plot twist blows your mind haha. This time I inevitably have to make spoilers since the most interesting thing to comment on comes precisely from the plot twist, although being a pretty old movie, it shouldn't be a problem. Let's start!

Hoy quiero hablarles de una película cuyo recuerdo desbloqueé hablando con mi hermana, se trata de La Aldea, una de esas películas cuyo plot twist te vuela la cabeza, haha. Esta vez inevitablemente tengo que hacer spoiler, dado a que lo más interesante para comentar viene precisamente del giro de trama, aunque siendo una película bastante vieja, no debería de haber problema. ¡Empecemos!

   A village in the late 19th century or so, is plagued by abominable creatures called "The Nameless Ones" who eat flesh, but supposedly do not attack innocent people, but no one wants to test the hypothesis. The village's defence system consists of using the colour mustard on the perimeter and hiding anything red, as mustard repels them and red attracts them (however, we later see that this doesn't do much good, so to speak), after the stabbing of the fiancé of our protagonist, whose name is Aby, by a mentally retarded boy in the village, Aby (who is also blind) begs her father (the village leader) to go out of the village to a neighbouring town to fetch the necessary medicines for her fiancé. Contrary to the advice of the other elders, the father lets her go.

   Una aldea de finales del siglo XIX aproximadamente, es azotada por unas criaturas abominables llamados “Los innombrables” los cuales comen carne, pero supuestamente no atacan a gente de corazón inocente, sin embargo, nadie quiere probar la hipótesis. El sistema de defensa de la aldea consta de emplear el color mostaza en el perímetro y ocultar cualquier cosa de color rojo, ya que el mostaza los repele y el rojo los atrae (de todas formas luego vemos que esto no sirve mucho que digamos) El punto es que, tras el apuñalamiento del prometido de nuestra protagonista, la cual se llama Aby, a manos de un muchacho con retraso mental en la aldea, Aby (quien además es ciega) le ruega a su padre (el líder de la aldea) salir de la aldea a algún pueblo vecino a buscar las medicinas necesarias para su novio. Contrario a lo que aconsejan el resto de mayores, el padre la deja ir.

   I have to talk about the setting and staging of the film, it's great! It is clearly very well suited to the "period in which the film takes place" so much so that it deceives not only the characters themselves who don't know the truth but also the viewer.

   Tengo que hablar de la ambientación y puesta en escena de la película, ¡Es buenísima! Claramente se adecua muy bien a la “época en la que transcurre la película” tanto así que engaña no solo a los mismos personajes que no saben la verdad, sino también al espectador.

   It has interesting shots that emphasise the intention of the scenes, such as the one almost at the beginning of the film where infernal noises are heard from the forest and we have a close-up shot of the forest, then the same shot of the villagers' faces looking in the same direction with an expression of fear, or the shots where the creatures are reflected in the water or where they appear in out-of-focus shots, or the one where the protagonists declare their love for each other but the setting is that of a horror film, at night with a lot of fog and an eerie place that is nevertheless warm and pleasant simply because of the dialogue.

   Tiene planos interesantes que enfatizan la intención de las escenas como por ejemplo ese casi al inicio de la película donde se oyen ruidos infernales desde el bosque y tenemos un plano cerrado con acercamiento del bosque, y posteriormente el mismo del rostro de los aldeanos mirando en la misma dirección con expresión de temor, o los planos donde las criaturas están reflejadas en el agua o donde aparecen en planos con desenfoque, o ese donde los protagonistas se declaran amor pero la ambientación es de película de terror, de noche con mucha niebla y un paraje sobrecogedor y que sin embargo es cálido y agradable simplemente por los dialogos.

   The handling of the horror is spectacular, the film plays with sounds and shots for it (all horror films do it, that's for sure) but not all of them do it well, this one uses many interesting shots, especially when the creatures appear, which in fact have a spectacular design, they are shots where we never see them clearly (until almost the end) as I said before in blurred shots, reflected in the water, in cut shots passing from one side to the other (where we see them clearly only for a brief moment), they emphasize the sound of the creatures' footsteps either in the forest or inside the houses during the assault on the village, and the best are the sounds they emit.

   El manejo del terror es espectacular, la película juega con los sonidos y planos para ello (todas las películas de terror lo hacen, eso es claro) pero no todas lo hacen bien, esta usa muchos planos interesantes, sobre todo cuando aparecen las criaturas, las cuales de hecho tienen un diseño espectacular, son planos donde nunca los vemos claramente (sino hasta casi el final) como dije antes en planos con desenfoque, reflejados en el agua, en planos picados pasando de un lado a otro (donde los vemos claramente solo por un breve momento), enfatizan el sonido de las pisadas de las criaturas bien sea en el bosque o dentro de las casas durante el asalto a la aldea, y lo mejor son los sonidos que emiten.

   The performances were also very good and believable, I really liked them a lot, but what we have to talk about now to finish is the plot twist. From the hand of M. Night Shyamalan it was clear that there would be a plot twist, if I am honest I have always preferred not to know if a film has a plot twist, however it is something impossible with this director, as this is his trademark, even so, knowing that there will be a plot twist, this director works so well the plot and the film itself that his films never become predictable, that is, knowing who had directed this film, I knew there would be a plot twist, but I never expected it to be "that" precisely, and is that (as I said above .... spoiler alert) the creatures are an invention of the village elders to prevent the next generations from leaving their perimeters and not encountering evil people (I won't give too many details to still keep some mysticism if any reader who doesn't mind spoilers still wants to watch it) however, despite the village leader telling his daughter about it and showing her the costumes the elders used to scare people, when she goes into the forest she is chased by one of these creatures, confusing both Ivy and the viewer, however later, we as viewers realise that the one who followed her is one of the boys from the village, however Ivy is still quite confused, but the biggest surprise comes when Ivy manages to pass the wall that encloses the grounds, when we realise that actually the time of the film is not the 19th century, but the 21st century, but by sending the blind girl out, she will not be able to tell what she had seen as she could never see it, it is spectacular.

   Las actuaciones también fueron muy buenas y creíbles, la verdad me gustaron mucho, sin embargo de lo que tenemos que hablar ahora para finalizar es el giro de trama. De la mano de M. Night Shyamalan estaba claro que habría un giro de trama, si les soy honesta siempre he preferido no saber si una película tiene un giro de trama, sin embargo es algo imposible con este director, ya que este es su sello, aun así, sabiendo que habrá un giro de trama, este director trabaja tan bien el argumento y la película en sí que sus películas nunca se hacen predecibles, es decir, sabiendo quien había dirigido esta película, sabía que habría un giro de trama, pero nunca me esperé que fuese “ese” precisamente, y es que (como dije arriba… alerta de spoiler) las criaturas son una invención de los mayores de la aldea para evitar que las siguientes generaciones salgan de sus perímetros y que no se encuentren con gente malvada (no daré tantos detalles para aun así guardar algo de misticismo si algún lector al que no le importen los spoilers igual quiera verla) sin embargo, pese a que el líder de la aldea le cuenta eso a su hija y le muestra los trajes que usaban los mayores para asustar a la gente, cuando esta se interna en el bosque es perseguida por una de estas criaturas, confundiendo tanto a Ivy como al espectador, sin embargo después, nosotros como espectadores nos damos cuenta de que quien la siguió es uno de los chicos de la aldea, sin embargo Ivy sigue bastante confundida, pero la mayor sorpresa llega cuando Ivy logra pasar el muro que encierra los terrenos, cuando nos damos cuenta de que realmente la época de la película no es el siglo XIX, sino el XXI, pero al enviar a la chica ciega fuera, no podrá contar que había visto ya que nunca lo pudo ver, es espectacular.

   It's a very good movie, I liked it a lot at the time and I also like it now, it has some "plot holes" like the one where the creatures are repelled by the mustard colour but raid the village one night, despite the posts with banners of that colour, and knowing that in the end they are not really creatures it would make sense, but let's say that the elders themselves are not coherent with their story and this could be asked by some boy in the village, the same thing about being attracted by the red colour and that's why in the village they pluck red leaves or flowers and bury them, I can imagine the creatures standing eternally in any red area without moving from there, I don't know, the plot sounds good at the beginning but if you start to question it, it ends up becoming ridiculous, however it's the only mistake I see in the film, at least that I remember at the moment.

   Es muy buena película, me gustó mucho en su momento y también me gusta ahora, tiene algunos “agujeros de guion” como el que las criaturas son repelidas por el color mostaza pero asaltan la aldea una noche, pese a los postes con estandartes de ese color, y sabiendo que al final no son realmente criaturas tendría sentido, pero digamos que los mismos ancianos no son coherentes con su historia y esto podría preguntárselo algún muchacho de la aldea, lo mismo de ser atraídos por el color rojo y por eso en la aldea arrancan vayas o flores de ese color y las entierran, puedo imaginar a las criaturas de pie eternamente en cualquier zona de color rojo sin moverse de ahí, no lo sé, el argumento suena bien al inicio pero si empiezas a cuestionarlo, termina haciéndose ridículo, sin embargo es el único error que le veo a la película, al menos que recuerde de momento.

   Hello to all movie lovers! Today I will tell you about a very interesting film that I had the opportunity to see recently and that caused me some regret, since it reflects the damage that resentment is capable of causing and how dangerous it can be. In the film The village, we will see how a very popular saying from where I live comes true: "Small town, big hell."

   
   

   

   
   

   The plot centers on a small village in Japan, called Kamon. In that apparently peaceful little place, its inhabitants live their lives without many complications and the most daring dare to aspire to leave the village, knowing that with the passing of the years, it is increasingly plunging into its old customs, which are the apparent appeal to the rest of the world. Unfortunately, in search of a "better future", the managers of the village established a deal with some government organizations and in exchange for income, they offered some areas of the village as mountains, to be used as garbage dumps, disguised as a recycling plant.

   
   

   

   

   

   
   

   In this place works Yu Katayama, the protagonist, a young man who has grown up being rejected by most of the villagers due to an event that occurred with one of his relatives in the past. Everyone treats him badly and disowns him, having the idea that at some point, Yu will be able to do the same as his relative, despite the fact that the event occurred when he was just a child and obviously, it was not his fault. . Even so, the mistreatment to which Yu is subjected is constant, being almost correct to say that they treat him as everything, except as a human being.

   
   

   

   

   

   
   

   In this way, Yu keeps all his anger and the negative feelings that daily corrode him inside, because he wants to show everyone that he is different, that he really appreciates the village. But it is not a simple task. Given his position, Yu can't get a job and that's why he ended up working for Maruoka, the manager of the landfill and an extremely evil man, who since he was a child has made life miserable for the poor man, after the incident that marked his life. Maruoka harnesses his power at all times and forces Yu to get into fights and work on the illegal burial of highly dangerous medical supplies. Many work at night for Maruoka due to debts, but Yu is the only one who does it because in his position he has no right to refuse. To make matters worse, his mother is a gambler and her debts are so great that no matter how hard Yu works, his efforts are diminished when the woman enters the casino.

   
   

   

   

   

   
   

   Yu is on the verge of collapse, he has no hope and as much as he tries to obey and stay out of it, he can't get anyone's respect or approval, having no choice but to bury himself under his own frustrations. Until one day a small light comes into her life, in the figure of a woman, Misaki who was her childhood friend and with whom she used to practice the dances of the enigmatic "Takigi Noh" ritual, she has returned to the village to work in the plant and treat him differently from the rest. The girl does everything possible to show Yu that she trusts him and that she has everything she needs to rise from the dump, being a new person that others must recognize and accept. This is how Yu's life changes radically and the man gradually begins to be happy... but. as expected, hatred will not remain still under his feet.

   Let's see... At first it didn't really attract my attention, because I had no idea where the plot would go, but as I watched it, I was immersed in Yu's pain. On that side, I found it a bit stressful, but that is something personal, because I don't like to see injustices and clearly this is a severe case of injustice, where a poor man is forced to carry the weight of a crime that he did not commit, leading him to live not only in misery but also with zero opportunities to be happy.

   I was able to understand a little the sorrow of poor Yu and that contention that he made around him to avoid hurting others. All the contained anger, which ended up turning against the village that hit him, humiliated him and rejected him, is nothing more than the seed that the villagers themselves sowed, being a rather grotesque circle. I think that this film perfectly reflects how dangerous it can be to keep negative feelings locked up until they become a kind of time bomb, capable of destroying everything in our path without our being able to control it, in the same way In a way, it makes you think about the value of forgiveness, since if the villagers had been more empathetic towards Yu, he would not have ended up turning into the monster that they made him out of fear.

   I found the protagonist's ending quite sad, he definitely did not deserve so much contempt for an act he did not commit, much less, after all he tried hard to be accepted in the village. But that doesn't stop it from being a good ending, in fact, it seems to me a hard ending, but extremely realistic. Undoubtedly, an infuriating movie that will leave you with a bitter taste in your mouth, which you can't miss if you're a lover of "bad endings" or tragic endings, like me 😅

   ¡Hola a todos los amantes del cine! El día de hoy les comentaré acerca de una película bastante interesante que tuve la oportunidad de ver hace poco y que me generó cierto pesar, puesto que refleja el daño que es capaz de ocasionar el resentimiento y lo peligroso que éste puede llegar a ser. En el filme Un pueblo tranquilo, veremos como se hace realidad un dicho muy popular de donde vivo: "Pueblo pequeño, infierno grande."

   
   

   

   
   

   La trama se centra en una pequeña aldea en Japón, llamada Kamon. El ese pequeño lugar aparentemente pacífico, sus habitantes viven sus vidas sin muchas complicaciones y los más osados, se atreven a aspirar a salir de la aldea, a sabiendas de que la misma con el pasar de los años, está cada vez más sumiéndose en sus viejas costumbres, las cuales son el aparente atractivo ante el resto del mundo. Lamentablemente, en la búsqueda de un "mejor futuro", los encargados de la aldea establecieron un trato con algunas organizaciones gubernamentales y a cambio de ingresos, ofrecieron algunas zonas de la villa como montañas, para que fuesen utilizados como vertederos de basura, disfrazado como una planta de reciclaje.

   
   

   

   

   

   
   

   En éste lugar trabaja Yu Katayama, el protagonista, un joven que ha crecido siendo rechazado por la mayoría de los aldeanos debido a un suceso ocurrido con uno de sus familiares en el pasado. Todos lo tratan mal y lo repudian, teniendo la idea de que en algún momento, Yu será capaz de hacer lo mismo que su familiar, a pesar de que el hecho ocurrió cuando él apenas era un niño y obviamente, no tuvo la culpa. Aún así, los maltratos a los que es sometido Yu son constantes, siendo casi acertado decir que lo tratan como todo, menos como un ser humano.

   
   

   

   

   

   
   

   De ésa forma, Yu guarda toda su rabia y los sentimientos negativos que diariamente lo van corroyendo por dentro, pues desea demostrarle a todos que él es diferente, que él realmente aprecia la aldea. Pero no es una tarea sencilla. Dada su posición, Yu no consigue trabajo y por eso acabó trabajando para Maruoka, el encargado del vertedero y un hombre sumamente malvado, que desde niño le ha hecho la vida imposible al pobre hombre, luego del incidente que marcó su vida. Maruoka aprovecha su poder en todo momento y obliga a Yu a meterse en peleas y a trabajar en el entierro ilegal de material médico, altamente peligroso. Muchos trabajan de noche para Maruoka por deudas, pero Yu, es el único que lo hace porque en su posición no tiene derecho a negarse. Para colmo de males, su madre, es una ludópata y sus deudas son tan grandes que por más que Yu trabaja, sus esfuerzos se ven mermados cuando la mujer entra al casino.

   
   

   

   

   

   
   

   Yu está al borde del colapso, no tiene esperanza y por más que trata de obedecer y de mantenerse al margen, no logra obtener el respeto o aprobación de nadie, no teniendo más remedio que enterrarse bajo sus propias frustraciones. Hasta que un día llega a su vida una pequeña luz, en la figura de una mujer, Misaki quien era su amiga de la infancia y con quien solía practicar los bailes del enigmático ritual "Takigi Noh", ella ha regresado a la aldea a trabajar en la planta y lo trata diferente al resto. La chica hace hasta lo imposible por demostrarle a Yu que confía en él y que tiene todo lo necesario para resurgir del vertedero, siendo una nueva persona que los demás, deberán reconocer y aceptar. Es así como la vida de Yu cambia radicalmente y el hombre, comienza poco a poco a ser feliz... pero. como era de esperarse, el odio no permanecerá quieto bajo sus pies.

   Veamos... Al principio no me llamó mucho la atención, pues no tenía la más remota idea de por dónde iría la trama, pero a medida que iba viéndola, me iba sumergiendo en el dolor de Yu. Por ese lado, me pareció un poco estresante, pero eso ya es algo personal, pues no me gusta ver las injusticias y claramente éste es un caso severo de injusticia, en donde a un pobre hombre se le obliga a cargar con el peso de un crimen que no cometió, llevándolo a vivir no sólo en la miseria sino también con nulas oportunidades de ser feliz.

   Pude comprender un poco el pesar del pobre Yu y esa contensión que hizo a su alrededor para evitar lastimar a otros. Toda la ira contenida, que acabó por volcarse contra la aldea que lo golpeó, lo humilló y lo rechazó, no es más que la semilla que los mismos aldeanos sembraron, siendo todo un círculo bastante grotesco. Pienso que en este filme se refleja de manera perfecta lo peligroso que puede ser el mantener encerrados los sentimientos negativos hasta volverse una especie de bomba de tiempo, capaz de destruir todo lo que esté a nuestro paso sin que podamos ser capaces de controlarlo, del mismo modo, te hace pensar en el valor del perdón, puesto que si los aldeanos hubiesen sido más empáticos con Yu, éste no habría acabado volviéndose el monstruo en que lo convirtieron por sus miedos.

   Me pareció bastante triste el final del protagonista, definitivamente no merecía tanto desprecio por un acto que no cometió y mucho menos, después de todo lo que se esforzó por ser aceptado en la aldea. Pero no por eso deja de ser un buen final, de hecho, me parece un final duro, pero sumamente realista. Sin duda, una película exasperante que te dejará con un amargo sabor de boca, que no te puedes perder si eres amante de los "bad endings" o finales trágicos, como yo 😅

   Bienvenidos mis queridos amigos cine maniacos.

   Hace unos días me dieron ganas de ver una película dramática, así que en mi opinión personal y experiencia de este tipo de películas, considero que los mejores actores actuaciones para este tipo de películas son los asiáticos, interpretan sus papeles de una manera tan perfecta que difícilmente no te gustaría.

   Así que estaba buscando películas asiáticas dramáticas por Netflix y encontré una llamada EL PUEBLO, me pareció bastante interesante la portada de presentación y tome la decisión de verla.

   Bueno... sinceramente no soy tan amante de las películas dramáticas, pero cuando se trata de los asiáticos, la veo sin problemas porque sé que son geniales cuanto ellos la trabajan.

   A few days ago I felt like watching a dramatic movie, so in my personal opinion and experience of this kind of movies, I consider that the best actors performances for this kind of movies are the Asian ones, they play their roles in such a perfect way that you would hardly not like it.

   So I was looking for dramatic Asian movies by Netflix and I found one called THE VILLAGE, I found the presentation cover quite interesting and I made the decision to watch it.

   Well... honestly I'm not that much of a drama movie lover, but when it comes to Asians, I watch it no problem because I know they are great when they work it.

   

   

   HISTORIA

   Este film nos revela la historia de Yu Katayama (Ryusei Yokohama) quien se encuentra trabajando en un vertedero de basura en un pueblo antiguamente pintoresco y olvidado por la sociedad.

   Yu Katayama comenzó a trabajar aquí luego de años del fallecimiento de su padre, quien misteriosamente cometió un suicidio, convirtiendo a Yu en un joven depresivo en busca de respuestas, no le importa su propia vida y solo se sumerge en un mundo de soledad y dolor por el fallecimiento de su padre.

   Pero ahora su madre se encuentra gravemente enferma y con miles de deudas que pagar, dejando a Yu con la responsabilidad de pagar todas las deudas, Yu no le quedara más remedio de lidiar con esa responsabilidad dada por culpa de las deudas de su madre y decide trabajar en el vertedero de basura del pueblo.

   STORY

   This film reveals the story of Yu Katayama (Ryusei Yokohama) who finds himself working at a garbage dump in a formerly picturesque town forgotten by society.
   Yu Katayama began working here years after the death of his father, who mysteriously committed suicide, turning Yu into a depressed young man in search of answers, not caring about his own life and immersed only in a world of loneliness and grief over his father's passing.

   EL PROYECTO

   Un inversionista llamado Shusaku Ohashi (Arata Furuta) invierte una buena cantidad de dinero en el proyecto de limpiar el vertedero de basura, lugar donde se encontraba antes un pueblo abandonado por el mundo, el propósito de este proyecto es para atraer a los turistas y periodistas a este proyecto para así reunir una buena cantidad de dinero mediante el gobierno.

   Solo deben captar la atención de los noticieros y los periodistas para que el alcalde del país pueda recompensar su gran labor, pero el camino del éxito está lleno de acantilados, e inconvenientes que deberá soportar el nuevo vocero de todo este proyecto.

   El nuevo vocero debe estar capacitado para poder solucionar todos los problemas que el dueño de este proyecto (Shusaku) se le presentara a lo largo de su inversión.

   THE PROJECT

   An investor named Shusaku Ohashi (Arata Furuta) invests a good amount of money in the project to clean up the garbage dump, a place where was once a town abandoned by the world, the purpose of this project is to attract tourists and journalists to this project in order to collect a good amount of money through the government.
   They just have to catch the attention of the news and journalists so that the mayor of the country can reward their great work, but the road to success is full of cliffs, and inconveniences that the new spokesperson of this whole project will have to endure.

   LOS PROBLEMAS

   Aparentemente, todo comienza a salir bien hasta que uno de los voceros principales decide someter a todos los trabajadores a que hagan lo que él quiere, este vertedero de basura tiene un antecedente donde millones de personas cometen delitos en tirar basuras ilegales a él.

   Por ese motivo, los inversionistas deciden trabajar en este proyecto para que el gobierno los apoye y tengan la vida de muchos lujos, pero las cosas comienzan a complicarse cuando uno de los trabajadores (YU) decide defenderse de todo tipo de males que afecten en su vida diaria o con su familia.

   En este vertedero encontraremos muchas cosas, desechos radioactivos, e incluso cadáveres, y el responsable de evadir estos problemas que no debería de pasar será el vocero que de la cara y defienda el proyecto a capa y espada.

   THE PROBLEMS.

   Apparently, everything starts to go well until one of the main spokesmen decides to subject all the workers to do what he wants, this garbage dump has a history of millions of people committing crimes by throwing illegal garbage into it.
   For that reason, the investors decide to work in this project so that the government supports them and have a life of many luxuries, but things begin to get complicated when one of the workers (YU) decides to defend himself from all kinds of evils that affect his daily life or his family.
   In this landfill we will find many things, radioactive waste, and even corpses, and the person responsible for avoiding these problems that should not happen will be the spokesman who stands up and defends the project tooth and nail.

   

   

   OPINIÓN PERSONAL

   La película me ha parecido muy interesante, y es que el género dramático le combino perfectamente, este film se asemeja un poco a lo que sería la vida real, la envidia y la codicia, más los noticieros y periodistas pisándoles los talones hace que el mundo gire a la voluntad del que quiere sobresalir.

   El tema del vertedero me parece excelente, ya que nos demuestra mucho la contaminación que pueden llegar a producir estos vertederos cuando no se trabaja con la suma dedicación, esto es debido a que muchas personas lo pueden usar para botar cosas ilegales, como desechos radioactivos o cadáveres, viendo venir que esta película fue creada por asiáticos hace que me guste, porque estas personas son estrictamente amantes de la protección ambiental.

   Esto quiere decir que no toleran la imperfección, todas las cosas de ellos se rigen bajo un mismo orden, es por ese motivo que todo les queda bien y raras veces tienen complicaciones a la hora de llevar a cabo un proyecto ambiental.

   Sinceramente, me gusto mucho esta película, la actuación de todos ellos y el ambiente dramático fue asombroso, digno de estas personas, le doy un 6 de 10.

   PERSONAL OPINION.

   I found the film very interesting, and the dramatic genre combined perfectly, this film resembles a little to what would be real life, envy and greed, plus the news and journalists nipping at their heels makes the world turn to the will of those who want to excel.
   The theme of the landfill seems excellent to me, because it shows us a lot of pollution that can produce these landfills when they do not work with the utmost dedication, this is because many people can use it to dump illegal things, such as radioactive waste or corpses, seeing that this film was created by Asians makes me like it, because these people are strictly lovers of environmental protection.
   
   This means that they do not tolerate imperfection, all their things are governed under the same order, that's why everything fits them well and they rarely have complications when it comes to carry out an environmental project.

   Sincerely, I really liked this movie, the acting of all of them and the dramatic atmosphere was amazing, worthy of these people, I give it a 6 out of 10.

   This is the creepy masterpiece by M. Night Shyamalan. It is a creepy film with an all right plot but don't expect a Sixth Sense type of hit from this film.

   M. Night Shyamalan was already starting to lose his good graces with me when this movie came out. If you follow my stuff I recently reviewed a film of his that I really enjoyed, the first in a while. The Village was not one of the ones I enjoyed.

   

   The story is set in Covington Pennsylvania in the 19th century where a group of villagers live a simple life but they cannot leave the small village that they live in out of fear of gruesome creatures that live just outside of it. These creatures are attracted to the color red and turned off by yellow. It is not explained why it just is so.

   

   No one ever leaves the village and there are also guard towers on the outskirts that must be manned at all hours to keep a lookout for them. For the most part the creatures leave the villagers alone provided they stay inside the confines of Covington.

   

   The creatures are further kept at bay by maintaining a yellow border on all the trees surrounding the area. Basically they spend a lot of time with yellow and fear anything that is red. It's intriguing for a little while. Everything seems to be going just fine until someone needs some medicine that the village does not have and some of the brave inhabitants want to attempt to venture to the next town despite the dangers of the creatures.

   I'll just leave it at that. The film has a star-studded lineup including Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody, William Hurt, and Sigourney Weaver. The movie stays reasonably interesting but there is just one problem (and i would appreciate it if you didn't spoil it in the comments in case someone would actually like to see the movie): The "twist" that is the trademark of all M Night's films was extremely predictable in this one.

   Like most of M. Night Shyamalan stuff, this movie made an absolute fortune at the box office, but both critics and fans were a bit upset about this one. I include myself in this grouping.
