I usually don't watch horror movies, but one afternoon of boredom, at my daughter's insistence we decided to watch this Netflix movie, it's Asian, specifically from Thailand, so according to my daughter, it promised to be very good because Asians apparently are very good at producing movies of this style, so I prepared some popcorn and we set out to watch this movie.
Usualmente no veo películas de terror, pero una tarde de aburrimiento, por insistencia de mi hija decimos ver esta película de Netflix, es asiática, específicamente de Tailandia, así que según mi hija, prometía ser muy buena porque los asiáticos al parecer son muy buenos produciendo películas de este estilo, de modo que preparé unas palomitas y nos dispusimos a ver esta película.
The story is about a single mother and her two teenage children whom she almost never sees because she is always working, suddenly she is promoted at her job and for that reason she asks her children to choose a restaurant where they can go to celebrate, however something happens on the way and she has a terrible accident that forces her to be in a coma, reason for which the children are suddenly left in charge of their maternal grandparents, grandparents they had not seen before. Lacasa was strange and old-fashioned but the only thing that caught the siblings' attention was a strange hole in the wall that showed them grotesque images of something that looked like an alternate reality.
La historia trata sobre una madre soltera y sus dos hijos adolescentes a los que ella casi ve por estar siempre trabajando, de pronto la ascienden en su trabajo y por esa razón ella le pide a sus hijos que elijan un restaurant donde podrán ir a celebrar, sin embargo algo ocurre en el camino y ella tiene un terrible accidente que la obliga a estar en coma, razón por lo cual los hijos de pronto quedan a cargo de sus abuelos maternos, abuelos a los que no habían visto antes. Lacasa era extraña y anticuada pero lo único que llamó la atención de los hermanos fue un extraño agujero en la pared que les mostraba imágenes grotescas de algo que parecía una realidad alternativa.
I won't lie, the story may seem interesting, and indeed it is, suddenly we discover a family drama, we also find obvious situations of bullying, envy and hypocrisy that are satisfactorily combated by a dose of justice. The pace of the film at the beginning is quite slow and it doesn't seem that you are going to find something interesting, but later on the action starts, and the best of all is that it didn't require Jumps scares to guarantee the shocks because the images and the uncertainty they generated spoke for themselves, however the problem of this film was in its narrative, that is, when a film has a plot twist it becomes very, very interesting, it gives it a refreshing and makes it more attractive, but what happens when there are too many plot twists in the same story?
No les mentiré, la historia puede parecer interesante, y de hecho lo es, de pronto descubrimos un drama familiar, también nos encontramos con evidentes situaciones de acoso escolar, envidas e hipocresía que son satisfactoriamente combatidos por una dosis de justicia. El ritmo de la película al inicio es bastante lento y no parece que vayas a encontrarte con algo interesante, pero más adelante comienza la acción, y lo mejor de todo es que no requirió de Jumps scares para garantizar los sobresaltos porque las imágenes y la incertidumbre que generaban hablaban por sí solas, no obstante el problema de esta película estuvo en su narrativa, es decir, cuando una película tiene un giro de trama se vuelve muy pero muy interesante, le da un refrescamiento y la vuelve más atractiva, pero ¿Qué sucede cuando hay demasiados giros de trama en una misma historia?
This movie makes you live many emotions: fear, tenderness, sadness, compassion and finally and inevitably confusion, imagine that you discover a supposed truth in the plot, you accept it, you assimilate it and when you least imagine it that supposed truth changes and you must accept another idea, so it gives you the feeling that instead of a horror movie you are watching one of those Latin programs about judges and litigants, in the best style of La Doctora Polo.
Esta película te hace vivir muchas emociones: miedo, ternura, tristeza, compasión y final e inevitablemente confusión, imagina que descubres una supuesta verdad en la trama, la aceptas, la asimilas y cuando menos lo imaginas esa supuesta verdad cambia y debes aceptar otra idea, así que te da la sensación de que en lugar de una película de terror estás viendo uno de esos programas latinos sobre jueces y litigantes, al mejor estilo de La Doctora Polo.
For that reason I am not sure if I would recommend this movie to you, but honestly I don't think so, you can watch it for entertainment but you know that at the end you will end up a little bit stunned, or maybe not, it all depends if you like it.
