  1. "Thriller" Classic in "The Strangers: Prey at Night" - Review@alies23023d

Currently we have rarely encounter horror film thriller Hollywood production as in the period of the 90's. In contrast to the period of 80 s / d 90s even to the mid-2000s where thrillers such as Friday the 13th, Halloween, Scream and I Know What You did Last Summer had mastered the Hollywood horror world, in recent years it seems Hollywood deliberately "save" the genre of this film and prefer to increase the genre of supernatural horror.

The success of the film franchise The Conjuring, Insidious, Paranormal Activity even the latest remake of the IT movie, which is actually a supernatural horror genre movie, currently its existence is very accepted by the audience. Practically nowadays we have rarely encountered the thriller movie as mentioned above, along with the sky rocketing of the supernatural horror.

But in this year, we are presented again a thriller movie that revives the classic thriller movie atmosphere typical of the 80's and 90's. The Strangers: Prey at Night is the title of the film which is a sequel to The Strangers movie released a decade ago.

The Strangers is a thriller film whose existence can not be underestimated by horror and thriller lovers at that time. Released in 2008, The Strangers starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman presents a thriller story with a fast pace, thrill and build a tension that is increasingly rising as the film progresses. The film, which features three masculine psychopaths who "play" with the protagonist managed to gain worldwide gross at $ 82,391,145, whereas the current production cost was only $ 10,000,000 as quoted from the imdb.com page.

And in this year or exactly 10 years after the first movie was released, we are presented again with 3 iconic psychopaths that bring the same horror with the first movie and of course with a fresh and new story.

    Synopsis

The Strangers: Prey at Nightber stories about Cindy (Christina Hendricks) and her husband, Mike (Martin Henderson) and her son, Luke (Lewis Pullman) on the way to Kinsey (Bailee Madison), their teenage daughters rebels to study at boarding school. But before delivering Kinsey to the school, the family first wanted to spend a weekend getaway in a trailer park run by their uncle.

But it is not the excitement that overshadowed their weekend getaways, just the strange things started popping up one by one in the park. Starting from the trailer park's trail, a loud knock on the door of their trailer at midnight until the presence of a teenage girl who always asks for Tamara's whereabouts, makes the atmosphere even more tense.

It did not take them long to realize that they were not alone in the park. Realizing that they were terrorized by something terrible, a group of sharp and masked gunmen. Realizing that not being able to rely on help from anyone, surviving by dodging those masked people became their only goal then.

    Story and Cinematography

bloody-disgusting.com bloody-disgusting.com Basically, the storyline displayed by this film is quite simple typical thriller films in general. How does a group of protagonist characters be terrorized by psychopaths whose reason for killing is not known clearly, who then plays "cat-kucingan" to avoid pursuing cold-blooded psychopaths. The element used is still like in the first movie, where a loud knock on the door and questions about Tamara marks the beginning of the presence of the main villain.

It can be said there is nothing special about the story of this movie. For fans of horror and thriller movies would have been unfamiliar with the storyline presented in this movie because it tends to be predictable. Practically, we are only made curious about what the criminal will do to the main character at the end of the story, and vice versa. However, the jump jump scare presented in this film is very good and effective in spurring adrenaline audience.

But what's interesting to me here is the cinematography. This film successfully presents the atmosphere of a typical 80s thriller movie. With the majority of close-up shooting, as well as shooting with the slow zooming technique makes the tense feel even more intense. This film is also not too much to bring the scene of brutal murder is disgusting. Quite the contrary, this film managed to show a scene of murder that I think is more "classy". The audience was not presented with a scene of brutal murder like a slasher movie like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but instead presented a scene of murder that provides psychological effects for the audience.

The face of the victim's face when he receives an incision and a sharp stab of a sharp object that is then juxtaposed with the gesture of innocence by the psychopath, actually presents an atmosphere of horror and gripping a very effective.

    Soundtrack and Scoring

Of all the elements in this movie, the soundtrack is the most interesting thing in this movie. Unlike the first movie soundtrack that uses more country songs, the director of this film is Johannes Roberts managed to create the atmosphere of a typical 80-thriller movie with a row of soundtracks from the same decade. Songs such as Kim Wilde's Kids in America, Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart, and even Air Supply's Making Love Out of Nothing at All were successfully juxtaposed in every gripping scene throughout the movie. The more tense because it is played on the radio in the car like a classic that indicates the presence of the psychopath.

Scoring or background music is also worked out equally well and managed to add dark and gripped a murder scene, also raise the adrenaline when the chase scenes take place. The director also managed to bring a pretty good start movie through this scoring. Where the song Kids in America played since the logo of the production house appeared at the beginning of the film then suddenly appeared black screen and silence.

Soon, from the same distance the same vague sound came from a classic car that emerged from the darkness and walked very slowly toward the camera. You can imagine how gripping the scene after that is not it?

    Conclusion

Broadly speaking, this film presents an interesting story can even be said to be better than the first film. Unlike the main characters in the first film that tends to "surrender", here we can see the main characters are more enthusiastic and able to fight the cold-blooded killers. The story was not a connection story from the first film alias stand alone movie.

So for the new audiences of The Strangers franchise is not to worry will not understand the story, because this film takes only the same elements with the first movie while the story is a new storyline.

Unlike the Get Out movie that successfully presents a fresh horror story, basically there is nothing very special about this movie. The mediocre storyline, as well as the "stupid things" that the main characters do in horror or thriller movies are still coloring this movie.

However, this film is actually successful to bring "entertainment" that adrenaline. This film also managed to evoke the atmosphere like a classic thriller typical 80 and 90s. So, if we grew up with films like Friday the 13th, Scream and Halloween, it's certainly a movie that will cure our yearning for such a thriller that is now very rare.
