The Tick was rebooted last year on Amazon Prime and I’m finally getting a chance to see it. This reboot takes place in a world of superheroes and super villains. It is also a world that is darker and more violent than the previous incarnations of the franchise. There is language and blood.
It’s dark.
Arthur is a young man with an obsession and a history with a super villain known as The Terror. His obsession has driven him to the Pyramid Gang and Miss Lint. Here he encounters a superhero known as The Tick, a loud, cheerful, powerful man with no memory and a desire to do good. The world is convinced The Terror is dead, killed by the superhero, Superion. Arthur believes otherwise.
It’s very dark.
And funny.
It is nice to see Arthur is the main character here, his story drives the action. It’s also nice to see Dot, his sister, part of the story as well. She’s very different from the original cartoon version and it’s interesting. Griffin Newman is Arthur, Peter Serafinowicz is The Tick, Yara Martinez is Miss Lint and Valorie Curry is Dot. They’re all very good.
I haven’t finished the series yet, but I’m really enjoying it. I love how they are balancing absurdity with some really dark stuff.
worth checking out.
