Hello everyone, my Otaku friends, I hope you're all doing great today. This time, I want to share a new review with you all. It was about time I told you about one of my favorite romance anime of all time. After a mini-marathon with my girlfriend, I want to talk about the anime: Tsukigakirei. Look, years ago I started watching it thinking, "Well, just another high school romance," maybe a cute one, maybe one I'll forget about tomorrow.. but wow! I mean, it touched me in a totally different way. It connected me directly with that vibe of first love.. but not the super exaggerated drama we sometimes see, but rather that quieter, clumsier, but incredibly strong feeling that you get in middle school or just starting high school. Do you remember that? That shyness when locking eyes with someone felt like winning the lottery? When your head was all messed up and you were just beginning to understand all those new emotions?

Well, Tsukigakirei nails just that... it's about that pure, innocent, kind of clumsy love, the one where holding hands seems like the biggest step in the universe, it's a breath of fresh air because, let's be honest, a lot of what we see today paints love as something super physical from the first minute, or with giant and over-produced gestures... this anime reminds you that, sometimes, the most unique thing is in the little things: trying to understand the other person, putting in the effort together even if you have no idea what you're doing because you've never been in a relationship before, it's about wanting: wanting to walk home together, wanting to share a snack, wanting to simply be close to that person because, somehow, that makes everything better.

This series understands that perfectly and focuses on the beauty of that beginning, of that testing the waters... the vibe is with Kotaro Azumi and Akane Mizuno, they are in third year of high school, around 15 years old, and they just happen to be in the same class together, Kotaro is a super quiet boy, lost in books, loves literature - in fact, he's always quoting a certain Dazai Osamu, which is a brilliant detail - and secretly dreams of being a writer. Akane is also quite shy, although she's the star of the track team, she gets nervous before competing and has one of those stress balls that she squeezes all the time, which seemed super, super real to me and with which I connected immediately.

Hola a todos, amigos Otakus, espero que estén genial hoy, en esta ocasión, les quiero compartir a todos una nueva reseña, ya era hora de que les hablara de uno de mis animes de romance favoritos de todos los tiempos, luego de hacerme un mini maratón con mi novia, les quiero hablar del anime: Tsukigakirei.. miren, hace años empecé a verlo pensando "bueno, otro romance de secundaria más", capaz uno lindo, capaz uno que se me olvida mañana.. pero ¡wow! o sea, me llegó de una forma totalmente distinta, me conectó directo con esa vibra del primer amor.. pero no el dramón súper exagerado que a veces vemos, sino ese sentimiento más calladito, torpe, pero increíblemente fuerte que te da en la secu o empezando la prepa. ¿Se acuerdan de eso? ¿De esa timidez que cruzar una mirada con esa persona ya se sentía como ganar la lotería? ¿Cuando tenías la cabeza hecha un lío y estabas recién entendiendo todas esas emociones nuevas?
Bueno, Tsukigakirei clava justo eso.. va de ese amor puro, inocente, medio torpe, ese donde agarrarse de la mano parece el paso más gigante del universo, es un aire fresco porque, seamos honestos, mucho de lo que vemos hoy en día te pinta el amor como algo súper físico desde el minuto uno, o con gestos gigantes y recontra producidos.. este anime te recuerda que, a veces, lo más único está en las cosas chiquitas: en tratar de entender al otro, en echarle ganas juntos aunque no tengas ni idea de qué estás haciendo porque nunca antes estuviste en una relación, va de querer: querer caminar juntos a casa, querer compartir la merienda, querer simplemente estar cerca de esa persona porque, de alguna forma, eso hace que todo esté mejor.
Esta serie entiende eso perfectamente y se enfoca en lo lindo de ese comienzo, de ese tantear el terreno.. la onda va con Kotaro Azumi y Akane Mizuno, están en tercero de secundaria, tipo 15 años, y recién caen juntos en la misma clase, Kotaro es un chico súper callado, metido en los libros, ama la literatura – de hecho, siempre anda citando a un tal Dazai Osamu, que es un detalle genial – y sueña en secreto con ser escritor. Akane también es bastante tímida, aunque es la estrella del equipo de atletismo, le dan nervios antes de competir y tiene una de esas pelotitas antiestrés que aprieta todo el tiempo, cosa que me pareció súper, súper real y con la que conecté al toque.

And here, people, is where realism shines, because look, how they start to get to know each other, it's not the typical magical scene under the cherry trees... Not at all! It's all awkward glances across the room, all really awkward... but what I really liked is how they start talking... on LINE! On the messaging app, it felt SO real, people... think, isn't it a thousand times easier to write what you feel, or even a simple 'hello', than to say it straight out when you're that age, all nervous? There you can think about what to put, send a sticker, the series nails that vibe, it shows you how they write, delete, wait with all the anxiety in the world for the 'read' or 'typing' notification to appear, I swear my stomach was in knots just watching them wait for a reply... and it's not just how they talk, huh?

The whole vibe of the series feels super down-to-earth. You see Kotaro there with his friends, and they're acting like... well, kids their age... kind of dumb, kind of clueless, making silly, age-typical comments about the girls who pass by. It's not super sugar-coated or dramatic. You see Akane worrying about her track and field times, what's up with her next high school, you hear chatter about exams, pressure from older people (Kotaro's mom, for example), the typical gossip between friends about 'who likes who' or 'should I break up with my boyfriend'. And the good thing is that it avoids those parts where the characters suddenly talk to you as if they were 30 years old and philosophers, or those ridiculous misunderstandings that arise because they just heard half a sentence...

The problems they have feel real for kids that age: how to get along with friends, what they will do after school, and how to handle this new and super strong feeling of love, nothing to do with those anime where teenagers solve everything with a maturity that you don't believe, or where everything depends on a force-fed drama. And this realism reaches the protagonists, Kotaro and Akane feel like real kids, they are both basically shy, and the series shows it brilliantly without needing them to tell you everything with an internal monologue all the time, you see it in how they move, in their doubts, when they blush, how they play with every little thing they have in their hands. You, as a viewer, see how they react, what they do, and that's when you realize what's going on in their heads…

Y acá, gente, es donde el realismo brilla, porque miren, cómo se empiezan a conocer, no es la típica escena mágica bajo los cerezos..¡Para nada! Son puras miradas incómodas cruzando el salón, todo recontra torpe.. pero lo que de verdad me gustó es cómo se empiezan a hablar... ¡por LINE! Por la app de mensajes, es que se sintió TAN real, gente.. piensen, ¿no es mil veces más fácil escribir lo que sentís, o hasta un simple 'hola', que decirlo de frente cuando estás en esa edad, todo muerto de nervios? Ahí puedes pensar qué poner, mandar un sticker, la serie clava esa onda, te muestra cómo escriben, borran, esperan con toda la ansiedad del mundo que aparezca la notificación de 'leído' o 'escribiendo', les juro que se me revolvía la panza a mí nomás de verlos esperar la respuesta.. y no es solo cómo hablan ellos, ¿eh?
Todo el ambiente de la serie se siente súper con los pies en la tierra, ves a Kotaro ahí con sus amigos, y actúan como... bueno, como chicos de esa edad.. medio tontos, medio despistados, tirando comentarios medio sonsos y típicos de la edad sobre las chicas que pasan. No está ni súper endulzado ni es un dramón.. ves a Akane preocupada por sus tiempos en atletismo, qué onda con la prepa que sigue, escuchas charlas sobre exámenes, la presión de los viejos (la mamá de Kotaro, por ejemplo), los chismes típicos entre amigas de 'a quién le gusta quién' o 'si debería cortar con el novio'. Y lo bueno es que evita esas partes donde los personajes de repente te hablan como si tuvieran 30 años y fueran filósofos, o esos malentendidos ridículos que se arman porque justo escucharon media frase..
Los problemas que tienen se sienten reales para chicos de esa edad: cómo llevarse con los amigos, qué van a hacer después de la escuela, y cómo manejar ese sentimiento nuevo y súper fuerte del amor, nada que ver con esos animes donde los adolescentes resuelven todo con una madurez que no te la crees, o donde todo depende de un drama armado a la fuerza. Y este realismo llega hasta los protas, Kotaro y Akane se sienten como chicos de verdad, los dos son básicamente tímidos, y la serie lo muestra genial sin necesidad de que te cuenten todo con un monólogo interno a cada rato, lo ves en cómo se mueven, en sus dudas, cuando se ponen colorados, cómo juegan con cualquier cosita que tienen en la mano. Tú, como espectador, vas viendo cómo reaccionan, qué hacen, y ahí te das cuenta de qué les pasa por la cabeza..

Of course, there are other characters too, we have Chinatsu, who is Akane's friend from the track and field club and is kind of more outgoing, more extroverted... there's Takumi Hira, the typical popular guy who also, look out, has his eye on Akane... yes, here comes the typical mess of unrequited love, which makes you say 'uh, how cliché'... the truth is, to be honest, I thought Hira came up a bit short, like the typical 'good-natured rival' and that's it. Chinatsu does have a little more juice, more vibe, especially later on in the story, but here's the change, people: even though these possible rivals are hanging around, the series never loses its way, you understand? It doesn't go off the rails in a tangled and super dramatic love triangle just for the sake of it... the heart of the story remains firmly on Kotaro and Akane, on how they experience that first love, how they find their connection.

The supporting characters and their feelings are there more to, let's say, spice up the main relationship, to highlight the problems and the good things that Kotaro and Akane have, but without stealing the show, you know? They add that layer of 'this could happen in real life', but without overshadowing the main romance... Do you know what else I loved? That it's an original anime! I mean, it's not one of those adaptations that cuts the story in half so you can look for the manga or the novel... no, here they tell you a complete story in 12 episodes... everything they include seems to have a reason, something that contributes to the plot. It builds, develops, and closes... it was a huge pleasure to see something that felt finished, that didn't make me feel like I wasted my time and gave me a really good ending, none of those 'and now go read the manga' endings, pleaseeee, haha ​​okay, let's get to the animation.

Let’s see… at first, especially when there are a lot of people on screen, the CGI can be a little… jarring, let’s say… it’s noticeable, maybe some people won’t like it, but, to be honest, I got used to it pretty quickly… apart from those background scenes, the general look of the series is beautiful. It uses a lot of pastel colors, very soft, which fit the calm, somewhat nostalgic vibe of the story… there are moments, some shots, some specific scenes of Kotaro and Akane that are beautiful, they really move you, the way they focus some conversations, how they use the light… it just works, I don’t know how to explain it… it gives it a kind of fresh air, it’s different from how many other series of this style look, and the way they put the LINE messages on screen is super fluid, very intelligent, it feels like a part of their world, not a cheap trick. Even the texting thing plays a key role in the finale, which... well, I'm not going to spoil anything for you, but I'll tell you it's incredibly sweet, incredibly sweet.

Claro, también hay otros personajes, tenemos a Chinatsu, que es amiga de Akane del club de atletismo y es como más lanzada, más extrovertida.. está Takumi Hira, el típico chico popular que también, ojo, le tiene echado el ojo a Akane.. sí, acá entra un poco el típico lío del amor no correspondido, que uno dice 'uh, qué cliché'.. la verdad, siendo sincero, Hira me pareció que quedó medio corto, como el típico 'rival buena gente' y ya. Chinatsu sí tiene un poquito más de jugo, más onda, sobre todo más adelante en la historia, pero acá está el cambio, gente: aunque estén estos posibles rivales dando vueltas, la serie nunca pierde el norte, ¿entienden? no se desmadra en un triángulo amoroso enredado y súper dramático solo porque sí.. el corazón de la historia sigue recontra puesto en Kotaro y Akane, en cómo viven ese primer amor, cómo van encontrando su conexión.
Los personajes secundarios y lo que sienten están más para, digamos, ponerle un poco de picante a la relación principal, para resaltar los problemas y las cosas buenas que tienen Kotaro y Akane, pero sin robarse el show, ¿se entiende? Le suman esa capita de 'esto podría pasar en la vida real', pero sin opacar el romance principal.. ¿Saben qué otra cosa me encantó,? ¡Que es un anime original! O sea, no es una adaptación de esas que te cortan la historia a la mitad para que busques el manga o la novela.. no, acá te cuentan una historia completita en 12 episodios.. todo lo que meten parece que tiene un porqué, que aporta a la trama. Construye, desarrolla y cierra.. fue un placer enorme ver algo que se sintió terminado, que no me hizo sentir que perdí el tiempo y me dio un final muy bueno, nada de esos finales de 'y ahora andá a leerte el manga', por favoooor, jaja okay, vamos a la animación.
A ver... al principio, sobre todo cuando hay mucha gente en pantalla, el CGI puede ser un poquito... chocante, digamos.. se nota, capaz a algunos no les va a gustar, pero, si les soy sincero, yo me acostumbré bastante rápido.. sacando esas escenas de fondo, el look general de la serie es precioso. Usa muchos colores pastel, así suavecitos, que le quedan pintados a la onda tranquila, medio nostálgica, de la historia.. hay momentos, unos planos, unas escenas específicas de Kotaro y Akane que son hermosas, te llegan un montón, la forma en que enfocan algunas charlas, cómo usan la luz... simplemente funciona, no sé cómo explicarlo.. le da como un aire fresco, se diferencia de cómo se ven muchas otras series de este estilo, y la forma en que meten los mensajes de LINE en la pantalla es súper fluida, muy inteligente, se siente parte del mundo de ellos, no un truco barato. Incluso eso de los mensajes juega un papel clave en el montaje del final, que... bueno, no les voy a spoilear nada, pero les digo que es increíblemente tierno, una dulzura.

For me, after watching them grow over those 12 episodes, seeing that positive, if perhaps somewhat idealized, ending was a good thing. It's the kind of ending that makes you smile. So, in short... I loved Tsukigakirei. It's not one of those super-scandalous anime, it doesn't need cheap thrills or fan service to hook you. It's rather laid-back, it sort of observes everything, and it's incredibly sincere. It manages to capture that awkwardness, that tenderness, and that quiet intensity of first love with a realism that, honestly, I haven't seen many other places. The characters are real, their problems are things that can happen to you, and the story gives you a well-rounded experience that wraps up well. The weird CGI in the crowds is just a nice touch; it doesn't take away from how beautiful it is.

So if you’re looking for a romance anime that feels real, sincere, and that will surely remind you of your awkward teenage years (but in a good way, eh!), you have to watch it no matter what… it’s a little gem that I feel went completely unnoticed when it came out, it didn’t get half the attention it deserved, my score: A 9/10, but easy, easy… the realism, how well the characters are done, how it reaches you emotionally and the ending that leaves you happy… it just makes it shine a lot, it’s a small but super special series, so go watch it! Para mí, después de verlos crecer en esos 12 capítulos, ver ese cierre con buena onda, aunque quizás medio idealizado, me gustó, es el tipo de final que te saca una sonrisa, así que, resumiendo... amé Tsukigakirei, no es de esos animes súper escandalosos, no necesita de emociones baratas ni de fanservice para engancharte, es más bien tranqui, como que observa todo, y es increíblemente sincero. Logra captar esa torpeza, esa ternura y esa intensidad calladita del primer amor con un realismo que, la verdad, no vi en muchos otros lados.. los personajes se sienten de verdad, sus problemas son cosas que te pueden pasar, y la historia te da una experiencia redondita, que cierra bien, lo del CGI medio raro en las multitudes es un detallito nomás, no le quita lo bonito que es.
Así que si andan buscando un anime de romance que se sienta real, sincero, y que seguro les va a hacer acordar a sus años de adolescencia medio torpes (¡pero en el buen sentido, eh!), tienen que verlo sí o sí.. es una joyita que siento que pasó súper desapercibida cuando salió, no le dieron ni la mitad de atención que merecía, mi puntaje: Un 9/10, pero fácil, fácil.. el realismo, lo bien hechos que están los personajes, cómo te llega emocionalmente y el final que te deja contento... simplemente hace que brille un montón, es una serie chiquita pero súper especial, así que vayan a verla! ¡Denle una oportunidad!
