  1. Watership Down (1978)@cinemaobscura3032d

Watership Down is a 1978 British animated adventure-drama film written, produced and directed by Martin Rosen and based on the novel of the same name by Richard Adams. It was financed by a consortium of British financial institutions. The film was owned by Universal Pictures in the United Kingdom, while the film was owned by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States and internationally. Originally released on 19 October 1978, the film was an immediate success and it became the sixth most popular film of 1979 at the British box office. It was the first animated feature film to be presented in Dolby surround sound. /wikipedia/

This is not a children's cartoon, although it may be watched with children (parental guidance is strongly recommended). The allegories presented in a seemingly innocent fable of a group of rabbits (hares?) looking for a new home are at times thought-provoking and sometimes downright disturbing. Nevertheless, it is a film that is beautiful to look at and experience to the full. Just take care.

And oh yes, read the book. Seriously, read the book.
