Wayward, or Incontrolables as it's known in Spanish, is a Netflix series I recently discovered. At first, I didn't have much faith in it, but then I started watching it out of curiosity, and the truth is, I found it more entertaining than I thought it would be.
Wayward o incontrolables como se conoce en español, es una serie de Netflix que encontré hace poco, al inicio no le tuve mucha fe, pero luego empecé a verla por curiosidad, y la verdad es que la encontré más entretenida de lo que pensé que sería.
Overview/Resumen
Abbie and Leila are two teenage friends whose behavior scandalizes Abbie's teachers and parents, who even believe Leila is a bad influence on her. So, at one point, Abbie's parents decide to send her to a boarding school called "Tall Pines," which claims to correct the bad attitudes of teenagers, though in reality, it uses unorthodox methods. When Leila arrives to rescue her friend Abbie, she becomes trapped there and discovers that everything operates like a large cult, controlled by Evelyn Wade. Meanwhile, a couple—a pregnant woman and a police officer—arrive in the town of Tall Pines seeking a life free from prejudice. However, as Alex (the officer) investigates, he begins to uncover very shady things connected to the school and the town in general, things that also involve his wife.
Abbie y Leila son dos amigas adolescentes cuya conducta escandaliza a los profesores y a los padres de Abbie, incluso creen que Leila es una mala influencia para ella, así que en determinado momento los padres de Abbie deciden enviarla a un instituto llamado "Tall Pines" el cuál asegura que se encarga de corregir las malas actitudes de los adolescentes, aunque en realidad usan métodos poco ortodoxos. Cuando Leila llega al rescate de su amiga Abbie queda atrapada en ese lugar y descubre que todo funciona como una gran secta en la que Evelyn Wade controla todo y a todos. Por otra parte una pareja conformada por una chica embarazada y un policía trasguero llegan a la ciudad de Tall Pines en busca de una vida libre de prejuicios, sin embargo a medida que Alex (el policía) va investigando comienza a descubrir cosas muy turbias que tienen que ver con el instituto y el pueblo en general, cosas que además involucran a su esposa.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
This series is dynamic from the very beginning, as the first scene shows us that something is off about that school, so much so that one student didn't care what might happen to him and decided to escape, without a fixed destination. On the other hand, I think this series was perhaps made as a cry for help, a warning, or simply as a critique of certain institutions that are dedicated to rehabilitation in some way, since some of these don't really seek to regenerate people physically, mentally, and socially, but simply to exert control over their lives for even more sinister purposes. The town resigns itself and lives its life as if nothing is wrong; they don't want to leave their comfort zone even though they suspect or even know that something is amiss there, but that's how it's always been, so what can you do? But in the midst of all this wave of conformity, Alex, Leila, and Abbie emerge as agents of change; they are the resistance and the strength.
Esta serie es dinámica desde el inicio, ya que desde la primera escena nos demuestran que hay algo raro con ese instituto, tanto que a un alumno no le importó lo que pudiera ocurrirle y decidió escapar de allí, sin un rumbo fijo. Por otra parte creo que tal vez esta serie fue hecha como un grito de auxilio, alerta o simplemente como crítica a ciertas instituciones que se dedican de algún modo a la rehabilitación, ya que algunas de estas no buscan realmente regenerar a las personas física, mental y socialmente, sino simplemente ejercer control sobre sus vidas con fines aún más escabrosos. El pueblo se resigna y vive su vida como si nada, no quieren salir de su zona de confort aunque sospechen o incluso sepan que algo anda mal allí, pero así ha sido desde siempre, así que ni modo, Pero en medio de toda esta hola de conformidad, Alex, Leila y Abbie surgen como agentes de cambio, ellos son la resistencia y la fuerza.
The plot twists in the series are very interesting, especially towards the end. The atmosphere created around the institution is truly unsettling, mainly due to the camera angles, the strange rituals, and of course Evelyn's passive-aggressive attitude—seemingly so peaceful, yet actually terrifying. However, I think there are some plot holes that have left me a bit confused, and I don't know if they'll resolve them in future seasons. Some episodes are very dynamic, with tons of action, while others have rather weak plots, but overall, I found it a very engaging series.
Los giros argumentales que mantiene la serie son muy interesantes, en especial al final, la atmósfera que se crea en torno a la institución es de verdad muy inquietante, sobre todo por los planos de cámara, los rituales extraños y desde luego la actitud pasivo agresiva de Evelyn, aparentemente tan apacible pero en realidad tan aterradora, sin embargo creo que hay algunos agujeros de guion que me han dejado un tanto confundida y no so sé si sepan como resolver eso en futuras posibles temporadas. Hay episodios que son muy dinámicos, con muchísima acción y otros cuya trama es más bien floja, pero en términos generales me pareció una serie muy atractiva.
Finally, I just want to add that what caught my attention most about this series is that it shows us a totally realistic approach, since although Evelyn seems to be the only villain, the real enemy in all of this is control and injustice, which are like parasites that change hosts; at the end of the day, it doesn't matter who is in charge, if it is a person with a thirst for control, the result will be the same.
Por último solo me queda añadir que lo que me llamó más la atención de esta serie es que nos muestra un enfoque totalmente realista, ya que a pesar de que Evelyn parece ser la única villana, realmente el enemigo en todo esto es el control y la injusticia, los cuales son como parásitos que cambian de huésped, al final del día no importa quién esté al mando, si es una persona con sed de control el resultado será el mismo.
