Luego de décadas de avance en imagen y filmografía, volvemos a sentir curiosidad al mismo tiempo en que nos maravillamos por esos guiños en películas actuales haciendo referencia a clásicos del pasado, un efecto nostálgico que involucra no solo a los más experimentados en la industria del cine, sino que también envuelve entre sus garras a los nuevos cinéfilos amantes de las pantallas y de las buenas historias. Básicamente, las casas productoras dan un paso atrás para cautivar a un público deseoso de ver algo cautivador y que se adapte a lo que los espectadores desean ver.
En este caso volvemos a ver una película en blanco y negro, en este punto, no recuerdo si en el pasado he visto una película de esta característica completa, a pesar de que existe la tecnología de agregar color a aquellas cintas clásicas, no les miento a decir que para mí era algo nuevo, pero que al mismo tiempo me sentí cómodo con toda la estructura del filme.
Sinopsis:
Un grupo de cazadores compiten por el legado de su prestigiosa secta, en medio de esta atípica competencia uno de los involucrados es un hombre que muta a un hombre lobo cuando la luna llena está en el cielo.
Análisis de la Película
Sin dudas lo primero que se puede notar sobre el filme es en su estilo clásico, siendo un tributo bastante marcado a las películas de terror a blanco y negro, de hecho, no solamente podemos ver este guiño en la imagen en blanco y negro, también en detalles en la decoración o escenografía. La simplicidad en esta escenografía juega un buen papel, demostrando que no es necesario gastar cientos de millones para captar y mantener la atención de los espectadores.
Si hablamos de Marvel, incluso el hombre lobo escapa a todo lo que hemos visto de las películas de este universo de superhéroes que tanto ha cautivado en la última década por sus grandiosos efectos especiales. Estamos acostumbrados a que esta compañía gaste millones y millones en efectos computarizados para exagerar expresiones y crear una escenografía impactante, sobre todo cuando de monstruos se trata, sin embargo, en este filme se utiliza una técnica basada en un disfraz y maquillaje, definitivamente algo fuera de lo común si en Marvel estamos pensando, pero que al mismo tiempo logra ser interesante y atrayente para los espectadores.
Película de Terror
Este mediometraje podemos catalogarlo en un terror con fantasía, pero que en lo muy particular me recordó otro filme que incluía monstruos como vampiros y hombres lobos, es Van Helsing y de cierto modo observé cierta similitud, sobre todo, en los protagonistas y su conexión, esa es una película bastante recordada y quizás decidieron producir Werewolf by Night con una fórmula parecida a la de Van Helsing la cual nos mantuvo muchos fines de semana en el televisor de la sala.
Algo que aprovecha muy bien el filme es la imagen en blanco y negro, ya que le permite jugar con algo de acción sin sobresaltar a los espectadores, esto ocurre muy bien en escenas donde la sangre es un claro protagonista de la secuencia, sin embargo, aunque no son escenas muy acentuadas o terroríficas en ese sentido, podemos dilucidad de que el filme tiene un sentido sangriento interesante que es un buen acompañante a una trama sobre monstruos y un hombre lobo.
Me gusta este estilo de películas con un poco de terror, pero en donde se presencia algo de acción, si bien no es mucha, me parece interesante algunos buenos movimientos de algunos personajes que son cazadores de monstruos. Otro aspecto que me parece muy positivo es esa secta que resulta ser el centro de la trama, desde el momento en que nos introducimos en la historia de este filme, salta la curiosidad de saber un poco más de estos monstruos, además de la secta, teniendo en cuenta, que el filme gira alrededor de lo que parece ser una joya con poderes místicos, algo que defectivamente hace que deseemos conocer un poco más, al menos ese fue mi caso.

Este es un filme bastante corto, cuenta con apenas 52 minutos, pero que bien vale la pena ver sobre todo por ese guiño hacia aquellas películas de terror más añejas. La historia es como cualquier otra dentro de un contexto de fantasía, terror y una pizca de acción, sin embargo, pienso que está bien ejecutada. En líneas generales, es un filme sencillo, pero con su respectiva dosis de entretenimiento, algo que nos coloca en otra posición muy diferente ante las grandes producciones de Marvel, en donde se gastan toneladas de dinero para obtener un entretenimiento a medias. Esto demuestra que incluso Marvel puede ir por un camino menos exagerado para poder captar a algunos espectadores para sus filas.
Pienso que Werewolf by Night no solo logra tener un buen repunte, sino que nos otorga una bocanada de algo distinto que muchos de nosotros no nos esperábamos, no es para nada una obra maestra ni tampoco deseo compararla con las grandes películas de este universo cinematográfico, solo que me sorprende que en comparación al presupuesto que normalmente poseen las superproducciones de Marvel, este filme logra cumplir con el objetivo.

Sí, el filme logra entretener a lo largo de su metraje, posee características que no solemos ver en producciones de Marvel, pero que terminan por agradar al espectador, sintiendo que retrocedemos en el tiempo para ver una película de blanco y negro, pero que además, cuenta con un interesante desarrollo para una historia que quizás no parezca muy innovadora. Puedo decir que la recomiendo abiertamente.

Film Analysis
Undoubtedly the first thing that can be noticed about the film is its classic style, being a quite marked tribute to the black and white horror films, in fact, not only we can see this wink in the black and white image, but also in details in the decoration or scenery. The simplicity in this scenography plays a good role, demonstrating that it is not necessary to spend hundreds of millions to capture and keep the attention of the viewers.
If we talk about Marvel, even the werewolf escapes everything we have seen from the films of this superhero universe that has captivated so much in the last decade for its grandiose special effects. We are used to this company spending millions and millions in computerised effects to exaggerate expressions and create a shocking scenery, especially when it comes to monsters, however, in this film a technique based on a costume and make-up is used, definitely something out of the ordinary if we are thinking of Marvel, but at the same time it manages to be interesting and appealing to viewers.
Horror Film
This medium-length film can be classified as a horror with fantasy, but in particular it reminded me of another film that included monsters such as vampires and werewolves, Van Helsing, and in a way I noticed a certain similarity, especially in the protagonists and their connection, that is a well remembered film and perhaps they decided to produce Werewolf by Night with a similar formula to Van Helsing which kept us many weekends in the TV room.
Something that the film takes advantage of very well is the black and white image, as it allows you to play with some action without startling the viewers, this happens very well in scenes where the blood is a clear protagonist of the sequence, however, although they are not very accentuated or terrifying scenes in that sense, we can dilute that the film has an interesting bloody sense that is a good companion to a plot about monsters and a werewolf.
I like this style of films with a little bit of horror, but where there is some action, although not much, I find interesting some good moves of some characters who are monster hunters. Another aspect that I find very positive is that sect that turns out to be the centre of the plot, from the moment we are introduced in the story of this film, the curiosity to know a little more about these monsters jumps, besides the sect, taking into account that the film revolves around what seems to be a jewel with mystical powers, something that definitely makes us want to know a little more, at least that was my case.

This is a fairly short film, only 52 minutes, but well worth seeing especially for the nod to those older horror films. The story is like any other within a context of fantasy, horror and a dash of action, however, I think it is well executed. Overall, it's a simple film, but with its own dose of entertainment, something that puts us in a very different position to the big Marvel productions, where they spend tons of money for half-hearted entertainment. This shows that even Marvel can go down a less exaggerated path in order to attract some viewers to their ranks.
I think Werewolf by Night not only manages to have a good rebound, but it gives us a breath of something different that many of us did not expect, it is by no means a masterpiece nor do I want to compare it with the great films of this cinematic universe, I'm just surprised that compared to the budget that usually have the Marvel blockbusters, this film manages to meet the target.
Do I recommend it?
Yes, the film manages to entertain throughout its length, it has features that we don't usually see in Marvel productions, but that end up pleasing the viewer, feeling that we go back in time to see a black and white film, but also has an interesting development for a story that may not seem very innovative.
