    Personal opinion

This k-drama addresses very well the suspense, drama and mystery scenarios it deals with, the truth took me by surprise when she was the one talking on the phone, I did not expect it, but I feel that was the purpose of the plot, to give us that uncertainty to continue seeing why she has pretended all this time and the reasons behind it, it is something sad and incredible everything that is gradually unfolding after that event of kidnappings and calls. The actress I feel she did a very good job with the sign language, it felt fluid, it seems that all her life she has learned this system of visual and gestural language.

Although, the plot does play with suspense and all, it lost some grace when it made everything very, very predictable and the motives behind the main character's treatment of her, I don't know, they were very bland, they will say it's because of his past and that's understandable to a certain extent, however, if he went too far with her, that's why he wanted a divorce, isn't it? Despite all this, I can't deny the good acting job they did in portraying what was going on in their lives and the disconcerting past that framed them; the chemistry of the characters was also very good.

    Positive points…

-A story that mixes suspense, mystery and tones of romance very well, through the tension it generates in each chapter.
    -Excellent chemistry between the actors.
    -Very well achieved performances.
-A smooth inclusion, I don't know if it feels at all forced.
    .

    Opera Instantánea_2025-03-24_074913_www.imdb.com.png Source

    Negative points…

-A rushed and confusing ending in certain parts.
-The relationship of the protagonists, how their rift was resolved, was somewhat abrupt, more so with his behavior.

    Score I give it…

    8/10 Story │ 10/10 Performances │ 8/10 Sound │ 8/10 Stage │ 8/10 Overall.

When the phone rings is a drama that in some ways handled well the approach to keep us intrigued, but it did have its notable flaws, the evolution of the characters was somewhat incoherent and rushed, as well as its ending, but this is my opinion, so I invite you to watch it and generate your own judgments about it.

    Opera Instantánea_2025-03-24_074818_www.imdb.com.png Fuente

    Puntos positivos…

    Opera Instantánea_2025-03-24_074913_www.imdb.com.png Fuente

    Puntos negativos…

    Opera Instantánea_2025-03-24_074945_www.imdb.com.png Fuente

    Puntaje que le doy…

    8/10 Historia │ 10/10 Actuaciones │ 8/10 Sonido │ 8/10 Escenario │ 8/10 General

When the phone rings es un drama que de cierta manera manejo bien el enfoque de mantenernos intrigantes, pero si tuvo sus fallos destacables, la evolución de los personajes estuvo como algo incoherente y apresurado, así como su final, pero este es mi opinión, así que los invito a verla y generar sus propios juicios al respecto.

  2. A Compelling Review Of "When The Phone Rings" Thriller Series@merit.ahama503d

One of the 2024 series I didn't get to see until late January is, "When The Phone Rings", a series I've been so hyped about but waiting patiently for all episodes to be out since I'm not one to keep wait and watch two episodes one week after another. The title, the genre, the plot and most importantly, the main casts were more than enough reason.

Most of the series I saw in January were series of 2024 and I'm looking forward to 2025 series as they air their episodes one week after another since the start of the year. Well, I'm not seeing the first quarter series yet until most of them are done. Back to this series, I especially enjoyed my time on it because it had lots of common scenes.

    MV5BZWMyMjRkYzMtZDMyNS00ZTEwLTg3ZmMtYTljZDMxMjg2MjNhXkEyXkFqcGc@.V1_FMjpg_UX1000.jpg Image from Imdb

The series have a lot in common with "Queen of Tears" and "Marry My Husband" where a couple have to start over and fall in love with each other or show their true feeling of love again after a major incident. But this one is with a compelling thriller that will have viewers hooked right from the beginning. I think I'm yet to recover from the first shocker I encountered watching this series.

The plot online gave almost no detail about what to expect but I was hyped about it anyways, I actually expected some horror scenes because I remembered "Scream" and the phone call scenes. I'm yet to see a Korean series that's very scary, I actually avoid them so I wasn't surprised that this one too, wasn't scary as I thought it'd be.

    MV5BZGJkZjNjZTAtODQxNi00ZTkxLTg1OGItY2ViNjM3MGJjNzE2XkEyXkFqcGc@.V1.jpg Image from Imdb

An arranged marriage between a spokeman and a mute heiress takes a dramatic turn when the husband receives a call from his wife's kidnapper and they are forced to learn more about themselves, reigniting a romance between them. Who is the kidnapper behind the call? How did the call turn a cold heart into a warm heart? Will the truth of how it all started be forgiven?

There's a lot of plot twists to expect as it doesn't end with just a phone call. It's a wonder how they are able to figure out the casts for each role but I can't see any other female lead take up the wife's role better than Chae Soo-bin did. I saw her star in "I Am Not A Robot", it raised my expectations for her that she didn't fall short on in this series.

    MV5BMTY0ODk1ZjctM2ZlNi00MDM3LTllNzktMTkzZTQ2ZjI1ODBmXkEyXkFqcGc@.V1.jpg Image from Imdb

It's the first series I'm noticing the acting skills of Yoo Yeon-seok who starred as the spokeman and husband of a mute wife. Maybe I've seen him in other series but I don't remember how good or bad he was in them until this series and I've been looking up for more of him. The chemistry between them was good even with less comedy.

I'm not so high on the supporting characters, you could say the lead casts stole the whole show on my end. It doesn't mean the supporting casts didn't play their role well. I actually noticed how good the villain was with his facial expressions that seem quite impossible to show, he was a psychopath or a monster unwilling to change.

It's a 9/10 series for me for the unexpected twists, the well played character by the casts and most especially the development of the story using throwbacks to put everything into place for viewers to follow up, understand and enjoy the story. It's a series I'll highly recommend for anyone who enjoy thrillers, do check this one out.

  3. When the Phone Rings – Being Mute Is Not an Obstacle! | Serie Review [En-Es]@neruel513d

She cannot speak; everything is a lie, a chain that traps her, while her partner is a fleeting man. Incomprehensible notes in an irreversible environment; no one can escape. They are both victims. They cannot flee from the sentence imposed by their families. Prison cannot become love.

    When the Phone Rings.png

On Netflix, you’ll find this 12-episode romantic thriller and drama that goes beyond the predictable. The plot simply envelops you as the two protagonists face danger. Neither of them is safe. Fear is ever-present, and the continuity and sequence of events heighten the story in a dramatic yet efficient way.

I wonder if it’s okay to write with such versatility—a mix of colloquialism and irrefutable technicality. This is who I am. I can't deny what's on my mind. To recap: when you play the first episode of When the Phone Rings, it feels like the K-drama or series universe absorbs you. There are two shocking things: a notable action by each of the protagonists and the way events unfold to connect them both. Who are these two?

The most striking aspect is that the protagonist cannot speak. In fact, she has chained herself due to her mother’s insensitive decree. The girl must obey, even after growing up. Imagine being able to speak but having to act like a mute person. Being mute is the sentence the protagonist cannot escape.

Key detail: the genre of this K-drama is thriller, but as each episode progresses, it shifts to give prominence to the drama and romance. The most interesting part is that the killer in the series is an unmistakable monster who cannot change. The pathology is suffocating. You’ll ask yourself the following question: How can a child commit such an abhorrent act?

What’s intriguing is the game. The critique of the whims of maternal overprotection and the reinforcement of misguided behaviors that go uncorrected in time. One particular scene in the K-drama makes it clear that giving everything to a child becomes harmful. At this point, I focused too much on the antagonist.

Actress Chae Soo-bin gave a perfect performance as the character of Hong Hee-joo—a woman with many secrets, who couldn’t speak and was sentenced to follow her mother’s whims. She was even forced to marry a man solely due to an agreement between two wealthy families. It’s repeated over and over: “I will be the president’s mother-in-law!” Ambition remains, without evaluating Hong Hee-joo’s loss and emotions.

Interestingly, what’s most compelling is how Hong Hee-joo is almost murdered and then begins to blackmail her husband into divorcing her through a phone. That part creates a perfect composition of the plot and establishes a good connection with the complementary details.

    When the Phone Rings (1).png

Yoo Yeon-seok, one of the best actors in Korea, played the lead role of Baek Sa-eon, the charming and seductive spokesperson for the South Korean presidency. Baek is the husband of Hong Hee-joo. His performance keeps the pace of the script and makes you want to watch every scene. Even when the character becomes obsessive or shows his weakness as a husband, despite never fully fulfilling that role. They say that when you're about to lose something important, you start to value it.

The message is surprising because it makes it clear that a person with a physical disability is not limited in fulfilling a role and can strive as much—or even more—than any other human being (even if it's a lie, or they have a trauma that makes them hide the fact they can speak). Implicitly, it also tells viewers that excessively loving a child can cause irreparable psychological harm.

The romance is captivating, but I felt that in the final episodes of the K-drama, they rushed the story to end with an artificial moment. An important note: the series used the name of a fictional country. This detail might be due to the criticisms and complaints from Suriname regarding the K-drama Narco-Saints. It was the first thing that came to mind when I noticed that detail.

Finally, the romance can be subtle and also painful. The story is sensitive, and as the main characters move forward, get to know each other, reveal their secrets, and overcome all the obstacles, they realize that they cannot be separated. It's a perfect K-drama to enjoy this weekend.

  4. When the phone rings | Korean series review@josehany576d

You can't just not be addicted to these Korean series, especially the ones with drama and romance, because it's basically a fantasy. We know that reality in Korea is not as it is portrayed in the series, it is even more rigid and in some cases abusive... However, the purpose of a good series is to entertain and also create a little awareness.

This series is still on air and will end in January, generally I don't usually watch series that are not finished or before finishing because the intrigue kills me and I get desperate, but it was because of a mistake on my part, I really hit play thinking that It was something else and I was hooked.

I understand that this series is also part of a web novel, exactly the same as the case of True Beauty, since I have not read that novel I have no idea what it is about, so I will find out when the series ends.

For now I can tell you a little about what it is about, we have the main characters Baek Sa-eon who is a politician who is rising quite a bit in his career, however, this man seems to have a slightly arrogant personality, he is quite confident and he doesn't like to be challenged. The basic Korean series character that we end up liking

    gc3fogbaaaeshkm.jpg Source

On the other hand we have Hong Hee-joo who is the wife of this politician, but she has a condition, she does not speak, she is mute and she communicates through sign language, and this is a great thing because you can see the inclusion that they are covering in this aspect. Obviously the entire series is not in sign language (I mean not all the characters do sign) but the protagonist does and some other people... However, in the same first chapter it is revealed that apparently she suffered an accident and that's why he doesn't speak.

The relationship between these two characters is quite strange, even though they are married, the person who is his wife is a secret, meaning that the population does not know the face of his wife. And then we ask ourselves: Why are they married? That is a mystery that we are going to reveal chapter by chapter.

    2598bf52c52501cc2f94b0ff9240ca52.jpg Source

Furthermore, all this becomes more intense when someone manages to kidnap this politician's wife and lets him know through a phone call where he tells him that he will kill his wife. He does not believe him because no one knows his wife's face. So he thinks it's a joke but later he realizes the truth and the threatening calls keep coming.

So far 3 chapters have been released, so we don't know what path the series will take but if you are a lover of these Korean series, believe me, it already looks very good.
