  1. Wounds (horror film) : some good gore and that's about it@gooddream2442d

So the quest to find a decent recent horror flick this Halloween season continues and to not much avail. This time i went down a path of zero child actors because after watching Eli I don't think I could endure any more baby screaming.

Wounds is more of a psychological horror film, and i'll admit some of it a creepy and the gore bits are definitely something that will make you cringe a bit, but again, we are plagued with a story that just never really get moving and then all of a sudden everything happens in 10 minutes and the film is over.

As always I do my best to avoid spoilers but if you need to go into a film blind it is always better if you don't read these things

Released exclusively by Hulu and Netflix this movie never saw the inside of a cinema outside of the Sundance Festival and a few others. It was scheduled to be a cinematic release but it was canned for reasons unexplained.

The story follows a jaded bartender named Will (Armie Hammer) whose apathy and cynicism at first defines him and actually he appears admirable and cool. He seems to handle everyone with a certain James Dean suave including unruly patrons at his bar. One night a patron leaves a phone behind after a bar scuffle, and Will picks it up before closing the bar.

He manages to open the phone using a method that made me question my own phone security and then the film starts to get a bit too borrowed from other films. Evil stuff is capable of happening in a very The Ring fashion via the phone and i suppose this is meant to be creepy. For me anyway, it simply wasn't.

The only real scary stuff that happens in this film only takes place about 7 or 8 times and it is done quite well. However, it isn't enough to really call a story and the hallucinations that Will experiences, some of which are done very well, are over entirely too fast.

I can't really complain about any of the acting because everyone is very good at their roles in this film. It is obviously not a massive budget production but they didn't skimp on actors and I believe that to be the strongest part of this entire ensemble.

All in all Wounds has some interesting tactics to induce fear or dread in the audience and I applaud that aspect of it. Unlike most films it doesn't really rely on jump scares at all but instead goes for gore and slow build up to a horrible situation. The acting is also pretty solid all the way through. However, the lack of a cohesive story kind of makes it boring and you will find yourself saying "get on with it already" as the film slowly creeps towards an ending that there is no way in hell anyone could predict.... then it is over just when it was getting worth watching.

I can't really recommend this because I was staring at my own phone out of boredom as the plot moves along at a snail's pace, however the "scary parts" involving CGI were pretty inventive and even if you don't watch Wounds intently, maybe skip through and see all of those.

    My overall rating! =
