One of the best telenovelas I have ever seen. First of all, good evening, dear readers.
Yo soy Betty, la fea is one of the most successful and highest-rated telenovelas in the history of Colombian television. I remember watching this drama back in 1998 or the following year. I was hooked—and I wasn't the only one; the show offered comedy, drama, and actors who were worth their weight in gold. Yet, most of the cast were newcomers landing their first roles, and no one had high hopes for the telenovela. Then, almost without realizing it, its fame exploded. Take, for instance, the character of Patricia Fernández—the "bleached blonde"—an iconic role with a unique, unforgettable personality. Fernando Gaitán made a brilliant bet. Although the telenovela wasn't made with a huge budget—and was extended bit by bit as it went along—who would have guessed it was a low-budget production? I believe that when you have good actors and a good script, everything turns into magic. Now, let's get into the synopsis. The story begins with a 23-year-old woman named Beatriz Pinzón Solano, a brilliant economist. She possessed extensive knowledge of the financial world but lacked physical beauty or attractiveness by conventional standards.
She joins Ecomoda—a place where, one could say, Betty doesn't fit in at all, especially regarding her style of dress—yet she proves to be more valuable to the company than any garment. Her physical appearance triggers a wave of scorn, mockery, and harassment from her coworkers and even the company's executives.
There, she meets the highly sought-after Armando Mendoza—a wealthy heartthrob who is nonetheless immature and lacks business acumen. He hires Betty to avoid having Patricia Fernández as his assistant—or rather, as a spy reporting on him. He offers Betty a secretarial position with a meager salary and an office located in a wretched, cramped space. Beatriz accepts the offer unconditionally; despite her outstanding résumé, she decides to stay. As the telenovela progresses, she becomes indispensable to both the company and Armando, eventually becoming his right-hand woman and even the owner of the business.

There is certainly drama in this telenovela—and plenty of it—but there is also a great deal of comedy; perhaps even too much. It also deals with racism and classism; the divide between social strata in Bogotá—where the show was primarily filmed—is palpable. They make some pretty biting jokes and highlight the superficiality of the world we live in. I don't think I could say any performance was bad, because everyone acted brilliantly in this telenovela. I loved the friendship between Betty and Nicolás; they always supported each other. They were brutally honest with one another yet remained close. Mr. Hermes was quite chauvinistic and treated his wife poorly—sometimes very poorly. Armando was insufferable, but the acting was incredible. To be honest, the "Cuartel de las Feas" (the "Ugly Squad") made me very anxious during the final episodes. And the role of Hugo Lombardi was incredible.
My favorite episodes:
When Betty goes to a bar with Armando for the first time—that scene was absolutely brilliant.
When Armando dresses up as a woman because of a bet and Betty has to let him into her home.
And well, there are others, but I don't want to recount the whole telenovela.
It’s an amazing show—one of those dramas you can watch over and over again without ever getting bored.
I can tell you that while there have been many adaptations, none compare to the original.

Primero que nada, buenas noches, queridos lectores.
Yo soy Betty la fea; es una de las telenovelas más exitosas y con mayor rating en la historia de la televisión colombiana. Recuerdo que vi este dramático poray en 1998 o un año después. Y quedé enganchada, no solo yo, más de uno, y es que ella te da comedia, drama y unos actores que valen oro; sin embargo, la mayoría eran novatos, tenían sus primeros papeles allí y no apostaban nada por esta telenovela. Y sin darse cuenta, su fama explotó.
Como la peliteñida de Patricia Fernández, un papel emblemático y con una personalidad única que no se olvida.
Fernando Gaitán apostó muy bien. Y aunque la telenovela no se hizo con mucho presupuesto, en el momento la fueron alargando cada vez un poco más; ¿quién pensaría que fue una producción con poco dinero?, pero creo que cuando tienes buenos actores y un buen guion, todo se convierte en magia.
Ahora sí comenzamos con la sinopsis.
La historia comienza con una chica de 23 años llamada Beatriz Pinzón Solano, una brillante economista. Con mucho conocimiento en el mundo financiero, pero poco agraciada o atractiva según los estándares de belleza.
Ella ingresa a Ecomoda, justamente un lugar donde Betty, se podría decir, no encaja para nada, sobre todo en la manera de vestir, pero resultará más valiosa que una prenda de vestir en la compañía. Su apariencia física genera una ola de desprecios, burlas y acoso por parte de sus compañeros de trabajo y hasta de los directivos en la empresa.
Ahí conoce al codiciado armado Mendoza, un galán y hombre rico, pero poco inteligente para los negocios, además muy inmaduro. Le da el empleo a Betty para no tener a Patricia Fernández como su asistente o, mejor dicho, la espía de él. Así que le ofrece a Betty un cargo de secretaria donde le paga una miseria y le da una oficina en un hueco deplorable. En todo esto, Beatriz acepta sin condiciones; a pesar de su excelente currículum, decide quedarse allí. A medida que va avanzando la telenovela, ella se va haciendo indispensable para la empresa y para Armando. Llegando así a prácticamente volverse la mano derecha de él y hasta la dueña de la empresa

En esta telenovela hay drama, sí, y mucho, pero también mucha comedia, demasiado. También racismo y clasismo; se nota la diferencia entre los estratos de la sociedad en Bogotá, que es donde básicamente se grabó la telenovela. Hacen chistes bastante ácidos y dejan notar la superficialidad del mundo donde vivimos.
Creo que no puedo decir que algún papel fue malo porque todos actuaron excelente en esta TELENOVELA.
Me encantaba la amistad de Betty y Nicolás; él siempre la apoyó a ella y ella a él. Se decían sus verdades a la cara y se seguían queriendo.
El Sr. Hermes era bastante machista y trataba un poco mal a su esposa o bastante mal.
Armando era insoportable, pero su actuación fue increíble.
El cuartel de las feas la verdad me generaba mucha ansiedad los últimos capitulos
Y el papel de Hugo Lombardi fue increíble.
Me encanta que Betty jamás perdio su escencia siempre tuvo sus mismas conviciones y su ética aunque tenemos que estar claro que le hizo daño a Marcela y no estuvo bien pero marcela también fue muy dura con Betty y la humillaba

Cuando Betty se va con armando a un por primera vez un bar
Esta escena fue demasiado buena
Cuando armando por una apuesta se viste de mujer y Betty tiene que aceptarlo en su casa
Y bueno otras más pero no quiero contar toda la telenovela
Es demasiado buena y es de esos dramáticos que puedes ver varias veces y no te aburre
Les puedo decir que le han hecho muchas adaptaciónes pero ninguna como la original
